{37} One Time

Chapter Thirty Seven One Time

After work, I headed over to my house with Jayce. Mom and Dad weren't home and they needed someone to watch the "bad ones". For the last time, they weren't bad. They were misunderstood.

I unlocked the door and walked inside. I headed for the backdoor and opened it. I called for my babies and they immediately came running to me.

Koda stopped to jump on me while Bear ignored me completely and with to Jayce. Ouch. That didn't hurt one bit.

"I knew he loved me more." Jayce said as he petted Bear's head.

I crossed my arms over my chest. "Whatever. Bear loves me too."

Jayce stood up. "Never said he didn't. I said he loved me more."

"That's fine. I have Koda and she's loyal. Isn't that right, girl." I glanced down and she wasn't beside me anymore.

"What were you saying again?" Jayce grinned as he rubbing the side of Koda's side.

I glared at Koda. "You traitor."

Jayce laughed. "They can't help it. I'm just loveable."

"Yeah, right." I said, rolling my eyes.

I shut the back door and walked into the kitchen.

"Are you hungry?"

"That depends on what you're making."

"It's a yes or no question."

He rubbed his chin as he thought about it. I wasn't a terrible cooker. In fact I knew how to cook unlike my dear mother. Jayce was just a picking eater.

"Fine." I shrugged."Eat nothing."

I opened the cabinets and began to pull out what I needed.

"No. I'll eat whatever you're gonna make."

I smiled. That's what I thought."

"Just don't kill me."

"Wasn't planning on but since you brought it up..."

"You do realize there's cameras in your house, right?"

"I could simply turn them off."

"Yeah." He agreed. "But you're not smart enough to get away with murder. You'd break down before they even start interrogating you."

"Oh and you think you won't."

He leaned against the counter. "C'mon. With these looks, I could get away with anything."

"Where was that when got thrown in jail, huh, pretty boy?"

He rolled his eyes. "That night doesn't count."

"Why not?"

"It just doesn't."

"Speaking of that night, I totally won, right?" I asked, putting the pan on the stove.

"Yeah, sure. You did."

I looked at him. "Truthfully?"

He nodded. "Of course you won. I'm pretty sure if you were to go back, Q would want a rematch."

"Too bad for her, I'm never going back."

"Not even if I begged you."

Begged. When I hear that word my mind wandered back to the night I snuck into his dorm room and waited for him to show up. He had wanted me to beg for him yet he was the one begging for me to stop.

"Nope."

"Why?"

"I got hurt and the cops showed up."

"You're the one who said you could handle anything since you broke your arm and forget about the cops. They show up everywhere, ruining the fun."

"First of all, I didn't break my arm, you broke my arm."

"How many times do I have to say sorry?"

"Until I get tired of hearing you say it." I offered.

"Okay. If that's what it takes." He took a deep breath. "I'm sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry-"

"Alright!" I interrupted him. "Worse thing I could've ever said."

I turned off the stove and placed his food on a plate. I put the dirty dishes in the sink and moved my plate over to the island.

Jayce told a bite of his sandwich. "What did you put in this?" Be asked with a mouthful of food.

"Cheese and bacon. Why?"

"Cause I did turn my back a few times. You could've poisoned me."

I rolled my eyes."Yeah cause I hate you that much, I want to kill you."

He shrugged. "You never know."

"This is the last time I make you anything." I told him.

He smiled. "You sure?"

I nodded. "Absolutely."

"I know some things that could help change your mind."

When he said that, all I could think about is his lips on my skin, teasing me. He smirked as if he knew what I was thinking. I blushed as I quickly looked down.

I cleared my throat. "What are they?"

"I can't tell you. They're my tricks I have up my sleeves."

Tricks.

Why was my mind suddenly thinking about things I shouldn't be thinking. He was my friend. Nothing more or less. It was going to stay that way.

"Sure." I said, finishing my sandwich. "Are you done?"

He nodded his head and handed me his plate. I place both of our plates into the sink and before heading to my room, I filled Koda's and Bear's food and water bowls.

I made a mental note to wash dishes before Mom got here.

"I haven't been in here in a while." Jayce said as he looked around my room.

He stopped when he saw my Justin Beiber post hanging on my wall and smirked.

"I bet you still have all his music."

"Of course I do. I love him."

"Do you still keep your music in the same spot?"

I nodded my head. "Yes. Why?"

He ignored me and moved to my CD collection. He searched through them until he found what he was looking for. He opened my stereo and placed the CD inside.

He pressed a button a few times until he found the track he wanted and when the music came on he started dancing.

I smiled as he started singing while still dancing in front of me. He pointed at himself before at me.

Me plus you
Me plus you
Me plus you

When I met you girl my heart when knock, knock
Now these butterflies in my stomach won't stop, stop
Even though it's a stuggle love is all we got
So we gonna keep keep climbing to the moutaintop

I laughed at his dance moves. He was recreating the moment we had when we were kids. At the time he was mocking Justin Beiber but now he was just being silly.

He stretched out his hand for me to take and I did. I stood up and we danced to the song. Koda and Bear entered the room and joined our little dance fest.

Once the song ended, another came on but we weren't dancing anymore. I sat on my bed and Jayce followed with Bear and Koda.

"Do you remember that one time when we went to the movies and we wanted to see how long it would take for us to get kicked out?" Jayce asked, turning his head to look me.

"Yes! You and Nolan are idiots."

He chuckled. "I'll have to agree with that but you have to admit it was pretty funny."

"Yeah it was funny before they kicked me and Cass out along with y'all."

Nolan and Jayce wanted to see how long it would take before someone complained on them being disruptive. They were talking loud, on their phones, and throwing food at random people.

The employee soon came and told us to leave even though Cass and I had told him we weren't apart of it. All four of us were kicked out and Cassidy didn't appreciate that.

At the time, I was mad at them for being so annoying but then later it become funny.

"It was a good thing we all got kicked out. Otherwise we wouldn't have gone to the haunted house." He said.

"No. That was horrible. I can't believe y'all made me do that. I was so scared."

"It wasn't that bad." He argued.

"What do you mean!" I exclaimed. "You left me! I thought I was gonna die at the end."

He rolled his eyes. "I told you to hold my hand and you didn't."

"I thought I could do it by myself." I said in a small voice.

"And if you died, that's all on you. You had the option to run yet you stood there like a dumbass and let him run up on you."

"I screamed, didn't I?"

"Like someone was gonna come and help you. It's a haunted house. People scream."

I glared at him. "You stood there and watched me too."

"Yeah cause I thought you were gonna run in my direction."

"Okay. But you saw me not moving you could've helped me."

"I'll remember that next time." He lied.

Bear rested his big head on my lap and I looked him.

"Oh now you wanna come to me." I said, rubbing his head.

"Is he staying here or coming with me?" Jayce asked.

"He can stay here. Koda gets lonely without him."

Jayce nodded. "Yeah that's probably better for him anyway."

I looked up. "Why?"

"Dad's friend or someone he knows, is coming to stay for a little bit and she's more of a cat person."

I rose an eyebrow. "She?"

"Yeah."

"Vonna's okay with that?"

He smiled. "Actually my dad should be the one worrying that she's coming."

"Why?"

"She's a lesbian."

"Does Vonna know that?"

"Yeah." He said, nodding.

"Well at least someone told her."

I didn't have a problem with lesbians or gays. They love who they love. They like what they like. It wasn't any of my business.
"Are you still on Dinah?"

"Yeah! Y'all could've at least warned me." I said. "I walked in blind sided."

It was in the middle of the school year when Dinah transferred over to our school. I heard she had been bullied at her old school but I didn't know why. I just assumed there were just mean girls who loved to pick on others.

Everyone knew about her sexual preference but me. Even if they would've told me beforehand, I wouldn't had changed how I acted around her. I would've still been her friend.

But I didn't know and she thought I did.

I was overly nice to her to make her feel welcomed to our school. I wanted her to know she could join our group and not feel like an outcast.

Everything was fine until I received this note. It fell out my locker and it explained how Dinah felt about me. She thought I was a lesbian as well because at time I wasn't with anyone and I joked about how much I hated guys.

It was awkward to say the least. I didn't know how to tell her I was into boys without sounding rude.

Jayce shrugged. "We thought you knew."

"Of course I didn't know. If I knew, I wouldn't had joked around as often as I did with her."

I mean I could understand where Dinah got the confusion from. I did joke about us having our fun time with the rest. Everyone else were in some sort of relationshop expect Dinah and I.

If I knew about Dinah, I would've still had make jokes but just different ones.

"Okay, I'll admit, it was payback."

I frowned. "For what?"

"For making it seem like I was gay. Do you remember that?" He asked.

I smiled. "That was funny and I wasn't the only one in on it. I had helped."

"But you were the main one." He pointed out. "Tony tried for so long to convince me embrace who I was and accepted it because of you."

Tony was a friend we spoke to every now and then during school or whenever we saw him. And one day he told me he thought Jayce was cute. Cassidy said we should have a little fun with that information and I agreed.

I told Tony that Jayce was secretly gay and he wasn't ready for anyone to know. I'll admit it was very wrong and immature of me but when you had Cassidy as a friend it was hard to say no to everything.

I never told Tony the truth and I was pretty sure he still thought Jayce was gay.

"I apologized, didn't I?" I said.

He rolled his blue eyes. "Yeah, yeah."

I stood up. "Let's play a game."

"What kind of game?"

"A video game and if I beat you, you have to do whatever I say and if you beat me, I'll do whatever you want me to."

Jayce got up. "You're on."

We headed downstairs and hooked up the game. We grabbed the controllers and sat down on the couch.

"I hope you know you're gonna regret this." Jayce told me.

"Not as much as you are."

We started the game and I knew this was going to be added on to our do you remember that one time list.

Oh yeah, Jayce was really gonna regret this.
