{17} Barging In

Chapter Seventeen Barging In

Thanksgiving was approaching us quickly. It was unbelievable how fast the days goes by in a blink of an eye. Mom called me early in the day asking if I would accompany her in shopping and I quickly agreed. But to my dismay, she didn't actually mean "go to the mall" shopping. She meant "go to the grocery store" shopping.

In my defense, she did call me very early for me to even comprehend what she was telling me. My brain only picked up on the two words. Shopping and later.

So here I was grabbing all the necessary stuff we needed from the shelves as Mom checked it off her list.

"Is that the last thing?" I asked, hoping she'd say yes.

She glanced at her list and and shook her head. "No, we need the hams."

Walking towards the back of the store, I groaned. Mom pushed the cart and right as she turned the corner, another cart hits ours.

It was a young boy around fourteen or so but he was tall. He had dark skin and surprisely light brown eyes. His hair was shaved and had designs in it. He wored shining diamonds in his ears and he gave us a small smile.

Of course Mom went straight into apologetic mood.

"I'm so sorry. I-"

"Blair?" A new voice interrupted Mom.

An old woman walked around the corner and stared at Mom. I looked at Mom and she looked like she seen a ghost. Her face went pale.

I frowned, concerned.

"Mom, are you okay?" I asked, touching her shoulder.

Mom snapped out of her shock and nodded once, firmly. "I'm fine. We should get going."

I pointed in the direction we were suppose to be going. "What about the hams?"

"We don't need them. I forgot we had some at the house." She replied, turning the cart the other way.

"Wait Blair." The older woman called out.

Mom ignored her and I gave her an apologetic smile. When she looked at me, she gasped and I swear to you, tears formed in her eyes.

The boy looked at the woman. "What's wrong, Granny?"

"Nothing, Andre." She told him.

Andre didn't look very convinced but he didn't push it.

My head whipped the the right, harshly, when Mom's angry stern voice reached me.

"Colby. Let's go, now."

Rolling my eyes, I walked over to her and she glanced around her, as if she was looking for someone, before she began to push the cart to the check out aisle.

She quickly started placing the items on the checking counter and the cashier asked the same questions as they did everyday.

"Did you find everything okay?"

Mom didn't answer her and the poor cashier whose nametag read, Stella, stopped asking questions. She could feel Mom's cold demeanor radiating off her.

"Your total is $60.45." Stella told us.

Mom pulled out her credit card and swiped it down. She punched in her pin number. Before the receipt could come out, Mom was grabbing as many bags as she could, hightailing out of the store.

"Would you like the receipt?"

I looked at Mom's retreating figure and then back at Stella. I shook my head and Stella crumbled up the paper and threw it away.

I grabbed the remaining bags before walking out the store. Mom was placing everything in the back as quickly as she could.

"What did she tell you?" Mom asked.

I frowned. "Who?"

She slammed the trunk door hard. "That woman! What did she tell you?"

I shook my head. "Nothing. She didn't tell me anything."

She glared at me for a few seconds before saying. "Stay away from her."

Without giving me a chance to respond back, Mom walked away from me and hopped into the car, leaving me utterly confused.

Opening the car door, I asked the one question she has yet to inform me on.

"Who is she?"

She stiffened, briefly, before relaxing her hands on the steering wheel. She started the engine and didn't look at me when she responded.

"No one you need to worry about."

She looked out the back window as she reversed out the crowded parking lot.

"Clearly it wasn't no one if she got you worked up."

"Put your seatbelt on." She ordered, ignoring me.

I did as she said and continued to pry the answers out of her.

"Mom, just tell me, who is she?"

"No one!" She yelled, looking me in my eyes with hatred. "Leave it alone"

Hatred for what? What could she possible be hiding? What was not telling me? Why wasn't she telling me.

Obviously, she wasn't going to tell me anything today or any time soon but eventually she would. Wouldn't she?

I kept silent the whole way back to my dorm room. Mom didn't seem to notice it or if she did, she didn't care. She looked in my direction for a split second before looking straight in front of her.

I hopped out the car and closed the door without saying bye to her. If she didn't want to tell me why she reacted the way she did, there was no need for me to talk to her.

She drove away and I headed inside the warm building. On the way up to my room, I thought about who the woman was. She couldn't be Mom's friend. She was much too old for that.

I was fairly sure Richard, my stepdad, wouldn't know her, either. So that only left Andre, the young boy. I mean the woman was his grandmother. He probably didn't know much but he was the only lead I had.

There was many schools here but there was a chance Landon or even Devon would know him. They were around the same age group. I made a mental note to ask either one of them if they knew him when I got a chance to see them.

I opened the door and Cassidy was gone no surprise there. Earlier, before I left, she was barely waking up. She was probably with Nolan. After their huge fight a couple of weeks ago, with the whole lap dance thing, they seemed to get closer.

And Nolan and Anthony pretty much got over it. I really didn't get how guys got over things so easily, without holding a grudge like us girls, but I guess it was a guy thing. It really didn't matter. They made up and that was good.

But when I sent her a text message, she told me she was at work. We were no where near paying off Jayce's truck. I mean I barely made the first payment this month.

One down, nine more to go.

I checked my phone but I didn't have any text message from Chance. Lately, we've been spending a lot of time together and I was really starting to like him. He was an amazing guy. Like really amazing.

I haven't heard anything from him since earlier when he briefly informed that he was spending the day with his mom. Which I understand completely. Rhesa, Chance's mother, was battling breast cancer. So far, she was doing really well. She didn't seem down about it. She was a very nice, lovely woman. She was always smiling. When I first met her, a few days ago, I couldn't help but to smile. Her smile was contagious.

I knew Chance was super close to her, seeing as his father, Leo, was always away on business trips. It was adorable how Chance treated Rhesa. Every picture Rhesa showed me, Chance was always with her, grinning, widely. It was cute. This was one side of him everyone knew about. He wasn't scared to let them know how much he loved his mother. After all, she was his biggest fan.

Don't get me wrong, Leo was very supportive of his son. He was just a very busy man. I haven't got the chance to meet him in person yet and I didn't know when I would. I knew it wouldn't be anytime soon.

Chance didn't plan on me meeting his parents so soon after we just started dating but it just happened. Rhesa wanted Chance to come over for lunch and I just so happened to be standing, sitting in this case, there when she asked him on the phone.

At first I didn't know he was facetiming his mother, because I was too busy scolling down my own phone, but Rhesa scared me when Chance informed her I was his girlfriend and she freaked out. In a very happy, exciting way.

We didn't have anything planned for that day so I wasn't dressed up. I was just wearing something totally comfortable and my hair in a messy bun.

Chance insisted it would fine. I didn't need to dress up but I mean come on, first impressions were everything. Even after, telling me what I had on was fine, I still went to my dorm and put something more reasonable on. I fixed my hair and I even put on some make up.

But as soon I got there, I knew I should've listened to Chance. Rhesa wasn't the type to judge you based on what you wear. She was an easy-going person. But still protective of her son.

There wasn't one awkward moment and I was scared there would be. Rhesa told me countless stories about Chance and I laughed, a lot. Chance was embarrassed and begged his mother to stop but of course she got a kick out of it.

It was a very successful day. I wouldn't hesitate to do it again.

As I looked at my phone, my eyes landed on Jayce's name. I haven't spoke to him since the whole double meaning thing in Theatre. I still didn't know what he meant about Thor had his Jane and Superman didn't have his Lois. Everything Jayce said was utterly confusing.

My fingers hovered above the keybroad, debating whether I should talked to him or not. My decision was made for me when I saw three dots appear on the bottom left corner.

I quickly hit the back button. I didn't want Jayce to think I was waiting for his text even though I kind of was. A few seconds later, his text popped up.

I made myself wait a couple of minutes before opening the text.

You're birthday is a week from today. -J

Yeah I know. -C

What do you have planned? -J

I had to think about it for a moment. What did I have planned? I didn't think I planned anything for my nineteeth birthday. It didn't seem as important as turning sixteen, eighteen or even twenty-one. Everyone in my group, Cassidy, Nolan, and Jayce, already turned nineteen. I went to Cassidy's party at the end of May and Nolan's during August.

I missed Jayce's party because his birthday was in July. And that's the month we had our fall out. But the prior month, I already had brought his gift. I didn't give it to him for obvious reason. I still had it, somewhere at my parents' house in my room.

Nothing. -C

Why not? -J

Cause I'm just turning 19..no big deal. -C

With you is always a big deal. -J

Why are you so worried about it? I didn't go to your 19th birthday party. -C

Yeah but you had your reasons. And you didn't miss much. -J

I'm sure I didn't. If it was anything like your 18th birthday, I'm glad I didn't come. -C

When Jayce turned eighteen, he had a huge party. And since it was during the summer, everyone came and it was perfect because his parents were away. Of course they didn't want to miss their son's birthday but Michael had something important to do.

But just because his parents weren't there didn't mean his younger siblings, Landon and Skylar, weren't there. It didn't take much begging to get Skylar out the house. She just wanted a new teddy bear and chocolate chip cookies. She stayed the night with one of her friends.

But Landon on the other hand took a lot of begging and bargaining. In the end, Landon only wanted new shoes, a new bike, and tons of video games. I mean the boy was barely twelve at the time. And he had a crush on me so that kind of helped out Jayce.

But anyway that's not why it was horrible. Everyone had a great time, hell an awesome time. It was me who left the party traumatized and scarred. Everytime I went into Jayce's room, I could never unsee what I saw. In this case what I saw and what I heard.

Still to this day, I could hear both his grunts and her moans and the sound of the headboard hitting the wall, rapidly.

At first I didn't even hear the sounds. Trust me if I would've heard them, I would have never entered the room. The music was playing so loudly that was all I could hear and feel.

I went searching for Jayce because everyone was asking about him. I figure he might've been in his room to change into dry clothes because he went swimming. I made sure to give him some time to change into some clothes before I walked into.

But what he was doing didn't involve him wearing clothes. The grunts and moans stopped along with the headboard slamming into the wall. I knew I blushed and I didn't think I said anything. I just knew I shut the door as quickly as I could and sped walk down the hall and back to the party.

You'd think after walking in on me naked would stop you from barging into my room again. -J

Believe me, that will not happen ever again. -C

Are you sure about that Mickey? I feel like you want to see me naked. If you do, I wouldn't mind. ;). -J

I rolled my eyes. Cocky bastard.

No thanks. I learned my lesson. -C

Oh c'mon Mickey it wasn't that bad. -J

I think we have different definition of bad. -C

I don't think we do. -J

Of course you don't. -C

Mickey, I'm gonna have to text you later, okay? -J

Okay. -C

A few minutes later, there was a knock on my door. I placed my phone down and got up to open the door.

"Chance? What are you doing here?" I asked.

He grinned. "Can't I just stopped by and check on my girlfriend?"

"Yes but I thought you were with your mother."

He walked inside the room and sat down on my bed. I did the same.

"I was but I wanted to see you so.." He shrugged. "Here I am."

I smiled. "I'm glad you're here."

"Yeah?"

I nodded. "Yeah."

One moment we were talking, the next we were having a full blown make out session. My hands went around his neck and his hands gripped my hips, tightly.

I leaned forward until Chance was laying on his back and I was on top off him. I liked Chance. I liked him a lot. I wonder if this was how I was suppose to feel instead of what I felt with Jayce?

But I stopped thinking about Jayce. I wanted to be consumed by Chance's lips and his wandering hands.

I wasn't sure what else was going to happened or wouldn't happen because the door opened and Cassidy's loud voice filled the room.

"Girl you wouldn't believe the day I had a-"

She stopped and I jumped off Chance as if he shocked me. I looked at Cassidy and she was grinning.

"Was I interrupting something?"

This was what Jayce probably felt like when I barged in everytime, unannounced.

"Yes you are." Chance told her.

She gave him a grinned. "I really don't care. Don't mind me." She said, flopping down on her bed. "Carry on."

Chance and I exchanged glances. I was pretty sure if Chance were Jayce, he would've continued on where we left off at but this wasn't Chance and I needed to stop trying to compare the two.

"I would like to do what we were doing without an audience." Chance replied.

I agreed with him. I didn't want Cassidy witnessing our heavy make out session. Although Cassidy didn't care when she and Nolan made out in front of me, I did.

Cassidy shrugged at us and typed away on her phone.

Chance glanced at his watch and stood up.

"I have to go. I'll see you later?"

I got to my feet and nodded. "Yeah. Where are you going?"

"My father wanted me to pick up some files for him and the place is about to close. I probably should've swung by there first before coming here but I really wanted to see you."

That made my heart swell. "How sweet."

He smiled and headed to the door. I followed after him. Once the door was closed I apologized.

"Sorry about Cassidy. I didn't know when she got off."

He shook his head. "Don't worry about it."

We walked to the elevator and stepped inside.

"Maybe later, if you want, I could stop by?"

"Yeah that's fine." He said. "I would really like that."

I smiled. "I'm sure you really want to continued where we left off."

"You mean got interrupted." He corrected me. "But yeah that too."

The elevator reached the ground floor and we walked out and out the building. The air was chilly but I liked it. We walked over to Chance's car and before he climbed in, he pulled me to him and lifted my chin up.

He pressed his lips to mine and I was pretty sure it was supposed to be a quick kiss but I held onto him.

"Or we could just continued right now." He muttered against my lips.

I laughed as I pulled away. "I don't think so. I'll see you later."

He grinned before climbing into his car. I watched him drive away before I went back inside the warm building. Instead of taking the elevator, I took the stairs.

Once I was back into my room, Cassidy glanced up at me with an amused smile.

"So what do you think would've happened if I didn't barged in?"

My mind wander to many different scenarios but I wasn't going to tell Cassidy any of them. But let just say it had nothing to do with anyone barging in.
