{16} Lois Lane vs. Wonder Woman
Chapter Sixteen Lois Lane vs. Wonder Woman
I only had two classes today but all day I was dreading my afternoon one. I planned on skipping it but Mrs. Doccer put us into groups last week and I couldn't let Josh do all the work himself. And I was still holding out Jayce wouldn't show up or at least hope he wouldn't.
"Hey girly, don't you have a class to get to?" Cassidy asked me, pulling her thick black hair into a ponytail.
I glanced at my phone to check the time. "Yeah. I probably should get going." I scooted off the bed and stood up. "What time are you getting off?"
"I think at ten but I might just stay until closing."
I nodded. "Yeah stay until closing because Wes wants me to lock up."
"Alright. Might as well." She picked up one of the mail off her bed. "Jayce wasn't kidding when he said he was gonna mail us his bill."
"Seriously." I agreed.
Larry, the person working on Jayce's truck and a close friend of the group, broke the bill into ten payments. Which was way better than paying it all at once. The only problem was, the payments wasn't low. They were like $300 a piece. But it was better than the original price. Larry gave us a discount.
"The payment is due tomorrow and my check hasn't come in yet." Cassidy told me.
"Don't worry about it." I said, grabbing my bag. "I get my check today and hopefully Wes gave me my bonus."
"You're the best." She hugged me. "I'll get the next payment." She promised.
I walked out the room and headed to my last class of the day. It was the beginning of November and the chilly air whipped around me but I didn't mind it. Autumn was my favorite season. It might be because I was born this time of the year.
I walked through the courtyard to get to my class and I caught Chance walking out one of the classes, probably heading to his car.
"Chance!" I called out.
He turned his head to the sound of his name and smiled when he saw me. He walked over to me.
"Hey baby." He greeted me. "Do you have a class right now?"
"Yeah, Theatre."
He nodded. "Do you have anything planned afterwards?"
"I have to work. Why?"
"I thought we could spend some time together."
The last time we really spent time together was on Halloween and that was two days ago. It didn't seem like a long time but when you first start dating, it felt like it.
"Well I'm not doing anything tomorrow." I told him. "I don't think I am anyway."
"Okay. Just let me know if anything comes up."
I nodded. "Alright."
"I'll see ya later." He bent down to kiss me once before walking away.
It was only when Chance left I saw Jayce with Arianna. She was talking to him but his eyes were on me. As I made my way over to the class, Arianna hugged him and he gave her a one arm hug.
I entered the room and Josh already had everything set. I gave him a bright smile.
"Hey Josh."
"What's up, Cole. Where's Jayce?"
"He's outside. He should be here any second." As soon as I said that, he walked in and sat down in our circle of three.
He pulled out his paper and he had a lot of stuff written. I shouldn't be surprise. Just because Jayce was known as the party boy, didn't mean he put off doing his homework. And he like Theatre so that was a plus.
Our topic was about Julius Caesar. We had thirty questions all together but we split it up between the three of us. During the week, we were suppose to do the questions we had and when we got back to class discuss if we agree on what we wrote or not.
It was simply and we usually agree with one other. Today was our last day working on the questions and tomorrow Mrs. Doccor had something else planned for us.
"So Cole, how's Wonder Woman liking Thor?"
I knew something like this would happen. He's still trying to figure out why I was dating Chance.
"I'm sure she enjoys it."
He smiled. "Just enjoys it?" He repeated. "Why not love it? I'm pretty sure if she was with Superman she would love it."
I rolled my eyes. "Superman shouldn't flatter himself. He sounds super cocky."
Josh looked between us, confused. But he didn't say anything. I didn't blame him. I wouldn't either.
Jayce shrugged. "Probably so but Thor shouldn't be with Wonder Woman"
"Of course Superman would feel that way but he's irrelevant to their love story."
He snorted. "Love story? Yeah right. Thor and Wonder Woman are from two different worlds." He tried to reason.
Why couldn't he just accept that I was dating Chance and let it go? If Cassidy could accept it, then he should have no problem doing so either. He was with Arianna. So why did he care?
"And? Have you never heard, two different worlds can collide and make a better one."
"See right there. There's no need for colliding. It ruins everything. Thor has his Jane. He doesn't need Wonder Woman."
If we were still speaking in three person and not literally, who was Jane? Was Chance talking to someone else? I dismissed the crazy thought. Jayce was trying to get to me. There was no way Chance was talking to another girl.
"And Superman has his Lois." I retorted. I actually was referring to Arianna in this sense. "Wonder Woman doesn't fit into his world."
It was true. I didn't. I never will. He had his house bunny and she knew what she was doing, obviously. Jayce was still with her and this was the longest girl he has ever be with. He was usually with the same girl for no longer than a week, possibly even two, but he's been with Arianna for about a month.
His eyes softened just a little bit. "But he doesn't have his Lois. Not yet and Wonder Woman will always fit into his world."
We stared at each other. What did he mean, he didn't have his Lois yet? He had Arianna, didn't he? I searched his eyes and there was something shining in them but I didn't know what it was. I never saw this emotion before. What could it be?
"Okay I'm just gonna ask." Josh's voice broke our stare. "What the hell are y'all talking about?"
"Nothing Josh." Jayce said, picking up his pen. "What question are we on?"
After class ended I texted Cassidy telling her I was on my way. I walked to my room, texting Chance. I quickly changed into my work outfit and Chance sent me a message saying he was outside.
Grabbing my room key, I walked out the door. I sent a quick text to Larry reminding him I would stop by his shop to pay for Jayce's truck.
I climbed into Chance's red mustang and he smiled at me.
"What time do you get off?" He asked, pulling away from the curb.
"At eleven but it'll probably be later than that since I have to lock up."
"Do you want me to pick up."
I shook my head. "No. Jayce's dropping Cassidy's car off."
Nolan was going to follow Jayce to Cheddar's so he wouldn't be stranded. Jayce was leaving the car with us because he didn't want to pick us. He was most likely going to be with Arianna and Arianna wasn't allowed in Cassidy's car.
He nodded. "Alright."
He pulled into Cheddar's and I pressed a kiss to his cheek before stepping out the car. I walked inside and we weren't that busy. I grabbed my black apron and wrapped it around my waist as I tied it.
I placed my nametag on my shirt and Miss Diana patted my shoulder as she walked by.
"About time you got here, sweetheart."
I smiled. "Why? Is Cassidy already giving you a hard time?"
"I'm not." Cassidy said, picking up a rounded black tray with food on top. "Miss D loves me. Right?" She glanced at Miss Diana for confirmation.
"Yes I do but-"
"Nope. You already said it. You can't take it back." Cassidy interrupted her, walking away.
Miss Diana shook her head.
"I know. What are we going to do with her?" I said for the both of us.
I headed to my section and began taking orders. And before I knew it, three hours already went by.
"Cassidy can I borrow your car? I'm going to go make the payment."
"Sure."
She gave me the keys and I walked out to the car. Larry's shop was about ten minutes away from where I was.
I made a quick stop to cash my check before I headed over to the shop. I walked inside and Larry was talking to a guy.
He motioned for me to come closer to the counter and I did. The guy Larry was talking to, glanced at me and I gave him a small smile.
"Cole this is my brother Eric. Eric, Cole" Larry introduced us.
"Nice to meet you." I said, holding out my hand.
"Likewise." He said, shaking my hand.
Normally, when I first met someone they would tell me their name and we might exchange some friendly words and that would be all but with Eric, that wasn't the case.
He wouldn't stop staring at me even after I looked away from him. I could still feel his brown eyes on the side of my face.
I cleared my throat. "So Larry, here's the first payment." I handed him the money.
He nodded. "Alright. Let me type into the computer and get your receipt."
A few second later, the receipt come out and he handed it to me. I stuck it in my pocket. I made a mental note not to throw it away.
"The next payment will be in January." Larry told me.
I was so glad he said January. Next month was December and I had a ton of shopping to do. And I didn't think I could handle both the payment and the gifts. Neither could Cassidy. I was grateful that I knew a person like Larry. He was truly the best.
I nodded. "Okay. Thanks."
"No problem, Cole."
I was about to walk away when Eric, reached out and grabbed my arm. I looked at him and Larry did too, warily.
"Uh, sorry." He let go of my arm. "I was just wondering if I could have your number?"
"Dude." Larry said. "She's off limits."
"Why. Does she have a boyfriend?" Eric asked.
"Yes I do and I don't think he would appreciate it if I gave you my number."
He nodded. "Understandable."
"Okay....I'll see y'all later." I waved goodbye and walked outside.
As soon as I got back to work, I told Cassidy what happened. We all knew Larry for three years but what I didn't know was that he had a younger brother.
"Eric? As in Eric Lanster?"
I nodded. "Isn't that Larry's brother?"
"I mean yeah but Eric is the hotter brother."
"Also the weirder one." I added.
"I gotta agree on that." She said.
"I didn't know Larry had a brother."
"Neither did I. I found out like two years ago."
I frowned. "Why didn't you tell me?"
"Because it seemed irrelevant at the time. I mean it was Junior year and I went to this amazing party. The party was better than finding out Larry had a brother."
"I see where you're coming from. But where was Eric, if Larry was here?"
She shrugged. " I don't know. I think with his mom or something. Larry did mention they had different mothers."
I let the subject dropped and we got back to work. The sun set a while ago and it meant we were closer to going back to our dorm.
I finished wiping the last table as Cassidy swept the floor. I took off my apron and hung it up. Cassidy did the same before we turned the lights off.
"You got the keys?" Cassidy asked, as we walked out the back room.
I nodded. "Yep." I said, dangling the keys in my hand.
She headed to the car while I locked the restaurant up. I stuck the keys in my pocket as I walked to the car. I slide in and remove the receipt I got earlier from my back pocket.
I opened the glove compartment and placed the receipt inside. Cassidy pulled into the traffic, harshly, and my body swung to the right.
"Shit!" I said. "Could you not wait until I had my seatbelt on?"
She shrugged. "Figure you didn't need it."
I looked at her. "With you, most definitely."
She rolled her eyes as I buckled up. "I'm not that bad of a driver."
I shook my head. "No, absolutely not." I joked. "You just have horrible road rage."
"You would too if someone cuts in front of you without signalling."
"Actually they did signal. You were just too stubborn to let them in."
She scoffed. "Well my bad for having somewhere important to be." She looked at me. "And before you say anything, me getting my nails done was important."
I held up my hand in surrender. "Of course. I wouldn't dare come in between you and your razor shape claws."
She smiled. "Damn right." She examined her nails. "They're good for slicing a bitch up."
When we got to our room, I went to take a shower before climbing to my bed. A few minutes later, Cassidy walked in with wet hair and a towel covering her body.
"Why is everyone talking about Lois Lane vs. Wonder Woman?" She asked.
I rose an eyebrow. "What are you talking about?"
"In the bathroom, there was a few girls comparing Lois Lane and Wonder Woman. They all love LL. They were talking mad shit about Wonder Woman."
Of course they were. I thought to myself.
"And let me guess, it was over Superman."
She nodded. "Yep." She pulled a shirt over her head. "But if I had to vote. I would pick Wonder Woman anyday. She's a total bad ass and not because she has powers. She's just awesome. And Lois Lane is a damsel in distress." She rolled her eyes. "I hate girls like that. They makes us seem so weak. Like, no bitch, we're not. That's exactly why I love Harley Quinn."
Even though Cassidy had no clue what I was thinking or what happened earlier between Jayce and I, I was glad she was on my side.
