Chapter 10!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *screams* I can't believe it!
My heart was racing, I just slapped a boy, and not just any boy, the son of a captain. Joseph omo Ituah one of the bad and notorious child in the school and also one of the boys girls were dying for.
As my palm left his smooth skin, it seemed like everyone kept quiet, the decorum deafening me. I felt pairs of eyes, turn to us, waiting for his reaction.
I also was waiting, watching. His brown eyes met mine and I saw anger flash in them. My ribcage slamming against each other as I kept a hard front. I wasn't going to let him see that I was scared.
It surprised me how all my anger dissolved as my hand left his cheek. I felt a presence behind me and a smile almost reached my face when I realized that my friends were behind me.
Maybe they could help, save me from the mini devil standing in front of me.
He scoffed, smiling and turned away from me, waiting for a few more seconds before he shook his head and turned back to me. I waited, maybe this was the time his slap would make me see stars just like it made Nifemi.
He nodded and touched his cheek as I just stood there not knowing what to do. Or maybe I did, but my mind was not thinking straight now at all.
"You feel like you've done something abi?" He shoved his hand into his pockets, looking so calm and collected like he always was.
The guy was always calm, and cool headed though, he had a bad temper. But this was not the time for him to be calm.
I just slapped him hard and I could clearly remember that he slapped war queen 2 (Nifemi) all because she insulted him.
I exhaled and shrugged, "No, I just did what a bastardised civilian would do." His laugh was low, and his shoulders shook when he laughed, perfectly showing his pearly whites.
I crossed my arms, my racing heart slowing down when I realized I wouldn't be crying like Nifemi any moment from now. He looked too relaxed for his own age.
Glancing over my head to look at my cousin whose fists were clenched as if daring him to touch me, he laughed the more and walked up to her. "Why are you frowning ehn? Do you want to get wrinkles?"
Giving him one of her 'hmm-this-boy-i-don't-trust-you look, she grabbed my hand and pulled me into the class as he just stood and watched us. He winked at me before my cousin shoved me onto the wooden bench and I almost threw up the rice I ate.
Confusion clouded my small mind as what happened few seconds again replayed back into my head, he calls me a bastardised civilian, I slap him, he just brushes it off and winkes and then he leaves giving me a good back view.
I jolted out of my thoughts as Toto snapped her fingers in front of my face, "stop thinking about the boy ah he has gone and besides you know the way to his class."
Hissing, my brain seemed to connect sharply as I heard the word 'class' and I bolted out the door and down the corridor to my class as fast as I could. Glancing at my watch as I reached the faded dark blue metal door of my class, I sighed.
I wasn't the one to miss class, or come late for any class, as I said, I was the replacement child. I was meant to perform very well and make my parents proud and my mum finally prove to my sister that being a lawyer was better than what she called an everyday engineer.
I couldn't blame her because, when engineering was discussed, a lot of people, even me had the mentality of a guy in a very worn out and dirty overall that was stained with oil and other stuffs and where we could find him was under cars.
I walked into my class as my bio teacher stopped her teaching and looked at me. "Goodmorn- afternoon ma." I scratched my hair, my head not thinking straight.
"When was break over." She dropped her black marker on the table, crossing her arms as I sat upright in my seat and blinked. "12 o'clock."
"And what is the time?" She turned to my seat, so that she was standing right beside me, waiting for me to check my watch. I knew I was in trouble, so I prepared myself for the slap I was going to receive.
Checking my time, I said, "7 minutes past 12." The slap that came on my back after the words were out of my mouth was nothing compared to the one i gave Joseph or equally the one he gave Nifemi.
Shutting my eyes, slap after slap, I tried my best not to, as they called it, 'scratch'. After she was done, she continued her teaching but stopped few seconds later to talk about how unserious I was, we all were.
30 boring and torturing minutes later, she walked out of the class as the normal greeting took her out. "Thank you ma for your lesson may God bless you ma, Amen."
I sighed and dropped into my wooden chair, waiting for the Bell to go for club meeting to start. I was in the music club because of my very good voice quality with my best friends.
Drumming my fingers on the table, my eyes caught the dry and boring sight of NK and I couldn't stop the hiss that escaped my lips. My wild hiss brought her eyes to me and the most disgusted face I could muster stared right back at her.
"Ahan Lois what happened na?" Uche, my friend and my mother in class pushed my shoulders as I turned my attention to her and I heard NK hiss and curse.
"Don't mind me is just someone here that is annoying me." I said and stood up as Nifemi walked up to me her loud voice filling the classroom and practically making me go deaf. "Lois oo I heard you slapped Joseph." She whispered the last part as I rolled my eyes.
Of course this was Nigerian navy secondary school and nothing could get past without half the school having an idea about it. It still surprised me so much that something that happened about how many minutes ago, not even up to ten minutes was already heard by someone.
"Ehn..... Is a lie." Uche stood up, eyes wide and ears raising at the sound of what felt like a very sweet jist. "Will I be lying, ask her na." Was Nifemi's reply.
"Lois." Uche waved her arms in front of me as NK walked past me, pushing me deliberately and making me hit my leg against the wooden leg of the desk.
I held my leg, falling into my chair and trying so much not to scream. The pain was killing me. I closed my eyes, trying to prevent the tears that wanted to seek escape as I heard Nifemi and Uche rush NK with insults.
My eyes flew open when NK said that I didn't look at where I was going and that she didn't do it on purpose but my stupidity had entered my head for me not to know how to stand and all.
Anger flooded my veins as I stood up, my anger making me forget my pain. I turned her to face me, my eyes red and blazing. "What did you say?"
She looked at me and there was not even a single trace of fear in her. She looked at me and crossed her arms, "You were not standing like a normal human being and you were standing on the way."
"And you could not ask her to excuse." Nifemi came to stand beside me as Uche piped in an I don't know oo. "Ok ooo sorry shebi that's what you want sorry." She turned away from me and I bit my lip. "Ok." I nodded as she swayed her straight body away from me.
I nodded, trying to suppress my anger "she has done her own now when I do mine, no one should talk." Sitting back into my chair after repeating the empty threat I used every time I was angry, Nifemi's eyes still shone at the possibility that I had actually slapped Joseph.
"What even led to the slap?" She questioned taking the seat opposite me, as the owner Hajara, came and eyed her. Sighing because I was too tired to answer the question, and my leg still hurting, I just waved her off.
"Don't even worry sef let me go and ask my sources." She stood up leaving me. Sources??!!!! Lord help me!
Taking my bag as the Bell went, I dragged a throbbing left ankle to Anna's class and sat waiting for them to come back from the physics lab or wherever they had gone to.
As I waited, I pulled out my Othello and continued reading from where we stopped in class, when my book was pulled out my hand and my eyes shot up to meet Fortune, Ituah's best friend.
Sucking in my cheeks, I uncrossed my legs, my hand stretched out. "Give me back my book." I was tired already, trying to nurse a still throbbing ankle. "Why should I give you?" He sat on the table opposite me as I dropped my hanging hand, "Because it is mine."
"Why did you slap Joseph?" He stood up handing my book to me. I had expected him to ask and I was surprised that he didn't feel the slap I gave Joseph from wherever he was, because as he always said, they were more than brothers.
"He deserved it." I turned back to the page I was reading. The guy was turning into a pest now and I just wanted to read in peace.
"Just know he's coming back for you." He said leaving the class as I yelled after him, "All the best."
So..........?????????? I don't really have anything to say except that you should just vote. You don't really have to comment but just hit the little star. Please!!!!!!
