Sadness
A year later, Zaedak passed away about three months ago. It was very sad. Elara and Sendak were hit hard but not as hard as their father, who was the one sick now, very sick. Zarkon's parents were both older than Sendak and Elara's parents and never expected to outlive one of them.
"Ulaz are you sure there's nothing that can be done?" Elara asked.
"He isn't going to last much longer. His illness is terminal now." Ulaz said sadly.
"Terminal?" She gasped.
"He isn't progressing well at all... He's getting weaker. His time is coming Elara. I did everything I could." Ulaz said.
She was silent for a few moments and then accepted her father's fate and sighed heavily.
"Thank you Ulaz." She said with a sad smile.
Ulaz nodded and walked to the medbay and Elara walked back into her parents' room. All the adults were there, all of the kids weren't there because their parents didn't want them to see this. Elara didn't get a chance to speak before her sick father spoke.
"It's not good news is it?" Vorak asked.
"I'm sorry..." Elara said, tears brimming in the corners of her eyes.
"Why are you crying? You know know princesses like the daughter I have don't cry, even though you're far more than a princess now." Vorak said, He was trying to have a happy farewell.
Zarkon was already at Elara's side since this would be very emotionally painful for her to go through.
"I know but... What if I'm not ready to be without you yet?" Elara sniffled as her father held her hand from his death bed.
"A father who hasn't prepared his children for his death has failed as a father." Vorak said.
"But you haven't failed." Sendak said.
"You are the father every living being should have." Helgara sniffled.
"That's all I ever wanted." Vorak said weakly.
"Clearly you raised them well." Athena said.
"Sendak and Elara had very good role models in their youth. You did well." Buloc said.
"Agreed." Cressida said.
"We mean it Vorak." Zarkon said.
"Thank you. I'm just glad I got to live as long as I did. I'm glad that my son and daughter have families of their own. I'm glad that my grandchildren are happy and healthy. I wish I could have a little longer but apparently it's not that way." Vorak said.
At the minutes went by he seemed to get weaker and weaker. It was killing Elara and Sendak inside. Helgara was clinging to Vorak's hand as she silently cried. When his hands finally went limp and the sound of breathing stopped they knew he was gone. Elara sobbed into Zarkon and Sendak shedded tears as Cressida cried too. Athena and Buloc comforted Helgara.
After funeral plans were discussed, Elara and Zarkon have to tell their children just like Sendak and Cressida did with Capella. It was a painful day fur everyone.
