Chapter Eleven: The Attack

I slowly pushed myself up on my bed, rubbing harshly at my eyes to get rid of the sleep. I groaned before getting out of bed and changing into a floor length black dress with long sleeves. I tied the corset around my midsection before taking a deep breath. I ran the brush through my knotted brown strands before hesitantly heading out the door. I quickly grabbed my dagger and strapped it into the sheath on my thigh before taking one last deep breath.

I walked down the hallway and paused just before the entrance to the kitchen, leaning my head against the wall as I debated whether I wanted to go in or not. I peaked around the arch and met Ellis' hard gaze. I jumped back leaning against the wall as I tried to suck in breaths. I didn't even hear her walk over but I saw he appear in front of me.

"What happened?" She whispered reaching out to touch me, but I didn't want her to. I am nothing to these people. Ellis could be doing the same thing the Ayer's are doing, right?

"Honey?" She spoke, her eyes hardening slightly. She cursed under her breath before walking back into the kitchen. I felt my racing mind slow slightly but that was short lived when she reappeared with a small bowl filled with muffins. "When I didn't see you down here, I figured something was up with you and your bizarre appetite." She chuckled softly. "Then I heard some of the staff talking." She shook her head and surprisingly her eyes filled with disgust.

"They should be ashamed. Every one of them." She reached into the bowl and pulled out a muffin with noticeably extra chocolate chips. "I figured you deserved extra chocolate after all of that." This was the nicest thing anyone has ever done for me. I felt tears fill my eyes before I could stop them. I flung my arms around her as the tears rushed down my cheeks.

"Thank you." I whispered. She wrapped her arms around my body squeezing tightly.

"I know it may be hard to trust people, but know you will always have me, alright?" She whispered. I just nodded before furiously wiping at the tears.

"Where is everyone?" I asked quietly hoping to avoid them all.

"They have a meeting somewhere on the outskirts of the territory I believe. The kiddos are here though." I just gave her a small smile before heading into their playroom. I saw Atlas playing with several stuffed animals while one of the house workers was sitting on a chair holding Zion in her arms. He was wrapped in a bundle of blankets and his soft snores filled the room.

Atlas jumped up when he saw me and ran over shoving a toy into my hands before running back to his pile.

"Battle!" He cheered before running at me again with one of his bears.

I laughed softly before tickling his sides eliciting contagious giggles from him.

"Cheating!" He protested through his laughs as he tried throwing one of his stuffed animals at me. I went to say something to him when the entire house shook. I froze and looked up at the worker to see her equally as startled.

I stood up slowly when another violet bang sounded as the entire room shook, sending toys toppling over. "We need to go somewhere else." I spoke quickly noticing only one way in and out in this room. "Now hurry!" I spoke grabbing Atlas in my arms and rushing out the room. The worker right behind me with Zion.

I could hear screams echo through the house as screeches of metal meeting something followed.

I burst through a random bedroom and rushed in looking for somewhere to hide them. I rushed towards the closet and sighed in relief when I saw the long dresses. I parted a way through them motioning for them to get behind the dresses.

"Miss, shouldn't you hide with us." I just shook my head and made sure I couldn't see them anymore.

"No matter what, do not open this door or leave this closet unless I knock three times." I told her. Before shutting it. I grabbed my dagger from my sheath and charged towards the stairs. I cautiously made my way down and towards the atrocious sounds. I watched with wide eyes as a being that was at least ten feet tall prowled through the tall corridor. The walls and floors were scratched and torn with blood stains on them. The beast turned revealing its bloodied about, before snarling viciously at me.

I watched with side eyes as another creature appeared behind it. It appeared to be a man completely aflame. His eyes seemed lifeless as he raised his hands sending a rampant fire of well fire at me. I jumped behind the wall and tried to figure out what I could do against whatever the hell this was.

I needed to get them out of the house and as far from here as I could. I ran for the door yanking it open only to be greeted by another snarling large beast. Before I could overthink it, I slammed the door shut. Before narrowly missing a fireball sent for my head.

Well fuck you too.

I sprinted for the stairs, my foot reached the first step when the creatures jaw snapped around my calf. I screamed out in pain as pain exploded through my leg. I slammed my dagger straight towards the beasts head. Hearing the roar of pain erupt from the beast as my dagger met it's eye forcing it's jaw to release my leg. I pushed myself up and panicked, I can't lead them upstairs. I won't make it past the beast at the front door and with these two after me. I needed time.

"Who sent you?" I asked trying to keep my voice as steady as I could.

"The Great Witch." The creatures voice rasped. "She warned you of this, mortal." He got closer, too close." Without thinking I drove my blade up and at the creatures abdomen. He hissed before his hands connected with my wrists burning my flesh in the process.

"You will come with us." He hissed reaching for me again. I narrowly dodged his flame engulfed hands before the beast snapped its massive teeth in my face.

"Why does she need me?" I asked.

"You will find out when we get there." He spoke reaching again. I was about to say something when a sword appeared through his throat. I looked up to see Axel standing behind him.

"Where are the boys?" He growled at me. "

"Avery's room I think. In the closet." I breathed out as I looked down at my bloodied leg.

He rushed past with Milo, Evelyn and Oren. I slowly pushed myself up and limped up the stairs. Ignoring the feeling of my flesh ripping with each step I took. Once I reached the doors I pulled them open stepping onto the balcony. I walked over to the ledge and glanced down. I carefully pulled myself up pushing my legs over the edge of the wall as I stared out.

I looked out at the view I've grown to love. I ignored the cold air biting at my skin I stared out.

I was hoping that whatever poison that beast released in his bite, works it's way through my system faster, I would rather that get me quicker before the blood loss. I glanced down and debated it, would it be so bad if I moved a little closer. It was windy enough that I could lose my balance and blame it on that.

"Eleia?" I jumped out of my thoughts at Oren's voice.

"There was a lot of blood in the hallway, are you injured?" He asked not getting closer. I shook my head hoping he couldn't tell that i was covered in it.

I felt his presence as he got closer.

"Fuck, Eleia. What do you mean you aren't fucking injured?!" He snapped trying to reach for my leg.

"Just let me go." I breathed so quietly I didn't think he heard it. It would be better that way. If Miss Dalaris needs me for something, and is sending monsters like that after me, then it is better if I am gone for good. The kids could've been killed and it would've been my fault. This family would've been destroyed forever and it would've been my fault. Everything would've been my fault.

Before I could react I was yanked off of the wall and laid down on the cold cement ground.

"S-Stop." I struggled against him as I felt his magic course through my leg, resealing my bloodied skin.

"Eleia enough." Oren snapped. He pulled me up, his fingers digging into the burns on my arms but I didn't even react.

He gently pushed me off of the balcony and back into the corridor. He walked past me after ensuring the balcony door was locked. I followed at a distance behind him and towards where the sound of laughter erupted. I looked into the living room from the hallway to see everyone hugging each other and smiling as they played peek a boo with Zion and watched Atlas show off his toys. I walked away and glanced into the kitchen to see Ellis in the kitchen laughing with some of the other women while eating soup. I smiled at that before turning on my heel and walking right out the front door. I didn't even have my cloak on but I didn't care as the cold air stung against my skin.

I listened to the snow crunch beneath my boots as I walked closer to the woods. I kept going as I made it far past the tree line. I didn't stop until I heard noises coming from a distance. I walked that way when I saw Miss Dalaris standing off not too far away. She lowered her hood revealing her bright golden eyes.

She walked closer, her skeletal hands covered in black gloves.

"You made the right choice." She spoke walking next to me.
