Chapter 6
I lose control...
I go boom!
I almost bleed to death.
And some of us are actually worried.
And Amon ran away...
*Celine*
Yeah, I bet Echo kept laughing at Amon and calling him chicken, but the so called chicken managed to do a great deal of damage to some of us.
We're talking the stabby-stabby kind of damage, not the kind of damage Echo's brain is made up of. Don't judge me, I'm mad.
And before you say that I'm on my period again, remember that Echo burnt my guts and that's not going to be a problem again.
We were surrounded, but of course she found a way to joke about that too. I don't really know what was so funny about being surrounded by soldiers that followed the chicken's orders like dogs.
Okay, I'm going to stop now, before I turn the entire country's government into a farm. Seriously.
As Echo probably joked too, Oliver and Damon were standing aside watching, and no one hurt these guys because they weren't fighting back or anything.
Of course, it only took one mistake for one of them to get hit.
As miss Waters was shooting arrows to our attackers, one of her targets dodged at the last minute. The arrow hit Damon in the stomach.
Panic waved over us all. We lost our grip on the fight, especially Ari, who was his girlfriend, and Echo who was the one that injured him in the first place.
Ariadne's hands had started trembling.
«Ari, focus! Oliver will take care of Damon. Just keep fighting! It's the only way you can help right now!» Felix yelled at her. She turned around just as her eyes turned green.
«She's losing control... Hide!» I yelled when I noticed. That snapped Echo, who was looking at something that didn't exist, out of her trance.
We ran behind the building and found Oliver struggling to keep Damon on his feet as he took him to safety. Felix ran to them to help out.
Echo was staring into outer space again, when suddenly an earthquake made us fall to the ground.
The guys were soon back on their feet, but when I looked around to check on her, Echo was gone.
And I immediately knew where she had ran off to.
«Dammit...» I muttered as I tried to get up. «We'll meet you guys in the forest!» I yelled from afar at the boys, but they probably didn't hear me. They were already too far away, with Damon leaving a trail of blood.
I ran back to the garden.
Echo was shouting at Ari to calm down. Vines were erupting from the ground, grabbing the soldiers one by one and swinging them around in the air. Their screams indicated that they were still alive, but they wouldn't be for long and Ariadne wouldn't calm down until they were dead. Of course, Amon had fled the fight and left his army do the dirty work.
I was surprised Ari hadn't attacked her cousin yet.
One of the vines attacked a soldier that was behind Echo, who barely managed to dodge by rolling aside. It was really spiky on the sides. I felt kinda sorry for that guy...
«Ari, calm down! Damon is going to be okay!» Echo told her. She just ignored her and kept torturing the other guys.
Then there was a small eruption of energy from Echo. The vines started to burn out along with the soldiers, who started falling to the ground dead and half burnt. Echo screamed; she was probably trying not to lose control too. The fire went up in the sky and the night turned into a day. The hot wind pushed me behind.
The quake started to dissipate. Ari fell on her knees and Echo fell down next to her and put her hand on her shoulder panting. All the soldiers were lying on the ground, dead. The fire disappeared the same way it appeared, out of nowhere.
I sprinted towards the girls.
«Are you okay?» I asked then both. Ari just gritted her teeth. She was still trying to get ahold of herself.
«Considering what just happened, yeah...» Echo panted. «The others?»
«I told them to wait in the forest, I don't know if they heard me.»
«The forest... That's where the chicken ran off to.» Echo kept panting. This was getting weird, along with the fact that she was holding her right side, just a little below her ribcage.
«Seriously, are you okay?» I asked her again. Ari turned and gave her a worried glance.
«Yeah!» Echo panted again. There were beads of sweat rolling down her forehead.
«A-are you s=sure?» Ari asked and eyed her suspiciously.
«I told you, I'm fine.» Echo growled.
New vines started to emerge slowly from the ground and took the soldiers under the surface.
«T-take me t-to Damon. Now.» Ariadne stuttered. We didn't even nod. We just helped her up and ran towards the forest, where we would, hopefully, find the boys before Ariadne lost it again and killed us all. The grass where she was sitting a few seconds before had started to wither.
Both Ari and Echo were more powerful than I had imagined. It must have had something to do with their bloodline or something.
Echo kept breathing heavily, as if it was hard for her to do so. It was dark and I couldn't see her, but she looked paler than usual. I touched her shoulder, but she flinched away.
I didn't like the way that looked, but I was also getting worried about the others. Damon looked like he had lost a lot of blood. We were following a pretty obvious trail of it.
Ari gave me a worried glance. I returned a reassuring one. To think that less than an hour ago we were playing cards and laughing at Amon... It looked pretty fake and far away.
Now we were back into reality.
[Oliver]
We were in the woods hiding. We hadn't gone very deep so that the girls would be able to find us.
While we were on our way into hiding, we heard an explosion. We turned around to see what was going on, and saw an eruption from where the garden was.
«Echo...» I muttered.
«I hope they're okay...» Felix agreed.
«The bad guys sure aren't...» Damon said and he was probably right.
The sky had turned red and we could feel the heat from a long distance. It was impossible for anyone that my sister was mad at to survive. I just hoped that Celine and Ariadne were okay too. Echo wouldn't have a problem; she was immune to fire.
Probably.
We had helped Damon sit at the roots of a tree and both Felix and I were by his side trying to close the wound.
«It's too deep...» Felix muttered. «We need a doctor...»
«How the hell are we going to find a doctor in the bloody woods!»
«I don't think it appropriate of you to use the word "bloody" right now...» Damon whispered.
«And I don't think it's appropriate of you to talk now that you're bleeding to death, let alone try and sass me!» I told him. He rolled his eyes.
«Shut up the both of you.» Felix told us. «Someone's watching us.»
«Well, not really watching... More like lurking in the shadows. Yeah, I like that better.» Amon smirked as he came near us.
Felix drew out his bow and aimed an arrow towards him.
«Stay back.» he warned him. Amon laughed coldly.
«Kid, we both know you won't shoot that arrow. You want an explanation. You won't kill me until you know why I'm doing what I'm doing.»
«I don't care why you do what you do. I care that you destroyed my home, killed my aunt and uncle in cold blood and brought destruction to my country. Not to mention the war you want to wage.» he replied.
«And won't be able to if you keep sending your army against us. Your men are all dead.» Echo added. I don't know where the girls had come from, but they looked as if they had all just gone through hell. Which they probably had.
«Can you, for one bloody time, stay out of my feet?» Amon asked her.
«Nope. It's not in my DNA.» it was a little hard to tell because of the dark, but I am 1000% sure that she was smirking. I shook my head. My sister never takes anything seriously. I don't think seriousness takes my sister seriously either. It probably laughed at her when she was born.
«I hate Elementalists...» he muttered.
«Do you know what I think? That you should never say you hate Elementalists in front of three Elementalists that already hate your guts.» Celine told him.
«What she said.» Ari agreed.
«Get lost, chicken... We're in a good mood, you get to live another day.» Echo said. I noticed she was panting and sweating. Amon ran away.
She let out a shaky breath. Ariadne ran to her boyfriend.
«Hey sweetie...» He told her. She hugged him tight. I got that because he grunted.
«It's going to be okay... We just need a doctor...» She told him and wiped some tufts of hair from his face.
I approached my sister, who was clutching her side as if her life depended on it.
«What happened back there?» I asked her.
«Ari lost control. I did what I had to.» she said trying to calm herself.
«Are you okay? I expected something more sarcastic from you.» I told her.
«Whats with everyone... asking... if I'm okay?» she panted.
«Because you're obviously not!» Celine came out of nowhere.
«Guys, we need a doctor!» Ari yelled and her voice cracked.
«I'll be right back.» Celine said and glared at Echo. She then ran away to get a doctor.
«Is it cold tonight or is it just my heart?» Echo joked. Or tried to.
«Okay, you need to sit down.» Felix told her what we were all thinking.
«No.» she replied. There were now evident beads of sweat on her forehead. «Just... take care of Alfred... I'm fine.» she panted.
«This isn't a joke, Echo! Let me see your waist.» she pulled away.
«Just go... Go help Ari with... Alfred...» She said. She sounded weak.
But I knew for sure that she wouldn't let us help until Damon was okay.
Celine arrived a few minutes later with a doctor. I have no idea where she found him.
He patched Damon up the best he could, but there wasn't much he could do to help any further.
When he was done, my sister approached him.
«Hey, Mr Doctor, or something. Can you patch me up a bit too?» she said and removed her had from her side, to reveal a deep, long scratch on her sides. I looked at Ari and Celine.
«I thought she dodged...» Ariadne whispered.
«Dodged what?» Felix asked.
«I lost control and... There was a huge vine with spikes. I didn't mean to attack her, I'm so sorry! There was a guard behind her, oh God... I'm so sorry!» Ari rushed.
«Its okay, you didn't know what you were doing...» Echo told her.
«The real question here is how the hell you managed to hide this wound without us seeing any blood.» Celine told her.
The doctor had started giving Echo stitches, making her wince every three seconds or so.
«For one, my pajamas are black, so it would be kinda hard to see my blood anyway. Two, if you managed to see any on the ground, you would think it was Alfred. Three--»
«Okay, we got it. But why would you hide it?» I interrupted her. When she started counting reasons of something, it was as if she had a Power Point in her head and was reading it out loud.
«Because you would try to help me too at the same time as Alfred. Maybe Alfred would have died and it would have been because of me. I don't want another death of a close friend on my hands.» she glanced at Celine while saying so.
After the doctor was done patching her up, we took him to the hostel to pay him. Of course we hadn't brought money with us on a fight with an army while we were in our pajamas.
We then packed our stuff. The sun had started to rise and we had no time to lose, mom was waiting for us in the evening.
