Chapter 31

"Oh no." I muttered, hoping that Maddie wouldn't hear me.

"What?" She asked. Of course that was my luck and she heard me.

"Oh nothing." I said casually,

"Then why did you say oh no, and why do you look like you've seen a ghost."

"Because I did see a ghost dah. Kendra's in the land of the dead, I'm going to see some ghosts."

"What happened? Tell me, Candace. Kendra is my best friend and I need to know."

"Um, I don't see anything anymore."

"Did the spell wear off?"

"Nope, Kendra blacked out, and she could be dead. She hasn't seen anything, so either her eyes are closed, she went blind, she's dead, or just passed out."

"WHAT?" Maddie shrieked. "I'm going."

"Then so am I."

"You can't teleport."

"But you can. You could teleport both of us to the land of the dead."

"And if one of us dies?"

"Then we're dead."

"You don't say. Fine let's go. Katchamuncho." Teleport, Maddie said and suddenly I was there. The place of my worst fears, my worst nightmares, and the place where everything became what I feared the most.

"Scary isn't it?" Maddie asked. She didn't seem too scared, she seemed really calm.

"I'd say." I barely said. "Wand ready." I kept glancing around, and realized that I never wanted to die. This is where I could go, but maybe (hopefully) I'd be in the less scary, better part of the place.

"It's ready." We walked until I saw a place I recognized.

"Kendra was here, this is where she first appeared. It looks like it."

"I can sense she was here, not long ago."

"Can you follow her trail?"

"If you use the tracking spell. Fair warning, it may not work. You can be a tracker magician and that's your specialty. I am not a tracker magician, so I can't do the spells."

"What type of magician are you then?"

"I'm a combat magician. I can do some powerful spells easily in a full scale battle."

"What am I?" I asked. I wanted to know what I was. I didn't even know you could be a type of magician.

"I have no idea. That will be decided when you do the magic with ease, or at all."

"Okay, I do pretty well in fights. So I could be a combat magician. How do you even know what type you are?"

"You'll know. If you're a combat magician, you will only know in a full scale battle. Like you have to fight over two hundred monsters."

"Great. What's the tracking spell?"

"Hosomina."

"Alrighty then, Hosomina." Track, I said. Ready nothing happened. Shocker there. "Sorry, I guess I'm no tracking magician.

"That's okay not many magicians are trackers. Kendra was, I mean is."

"Whatever. So now we have to go by my memory. Jolly."

"Yep, hopefully you'll remember what you saw."

"Hopefully. I think Kendra just walked straight,  but  I'm not sure."

"Then let's try going straight." Sure enough we soon got to the clearing that Kendra disappeared in.

"Here we are. This is where I couldn't see anymore. Look around, make sure she's not here." We looked and looked, but we couldn't find her.

"So, someone or something must've taken her and hid her, or you lost the connection on your spell."

"I think someone took her and hid her, because they shot magic at her and everything went black. I lost my connection. I think some ghost took her somewhere, and that somewhere is probably the same place that Nat is."

"I have no-wait someone's here. I feel a presence."

"Me too. Icarum Sundo." Shield me, I didn't want to take the chance of getting hit by magic like Kendra had.

"Icarum Sundo." Shield me, Maddie also said. That's when something struck. I saw magic hit my shield ball and there was almost electricity going through the shield. Then my shield went out.

"Icarum." Shield, I quickly said. I couldn't risk taking another shield ball, because that took longer to cover you. I shifted my shield over to my non-wand hand. "Sagan." Zap. "Whoever you are, come out and stop hiding. Come and fight. Don't be a coward."

That got them to come. It was a ghost, (Surprise!) but it was looking very bad. It was pretty much gray, and ghosts are white. Even dead ghosts. The ones I'd seen with Kendra's vision were totally white. This one looked like it was about to loose it's soul, and disappear for good. "So thy came? I knew thy wouldn't be able to with stand coming to get Kendra." His voice was very low and raspy, like he had smoked all his life, including the ghost life.

"We need our clue back." I said. "Where's Kendra and Nat?"

"In a place that thy won't be able to find them." I jumped at him and held my wand to his chest.

"Where-are-they?" I said very slowly so he could grasp the meaning.

"I will not tell thee. I have information that I won't ever tell. I have been dead for thousands of years, and I will not spill this secret. Go ahead, kill me so  I can't come back. I'll loose my soul. I'm about to die anyways, but that won't get me to talk."

"Tell me." I growled.

"No."

"Leva." Talk, I quickly said. "Where are they?" I repeated for the third time.

The ghost just waved his hand and didn't say anything that answered my question. "Old magic. I am old enough to know how to avoid spells like those. Those are easy spells."

"LEVA!" Talk, I yelled and put all my magical powers into it. I would drain quickly, but I needed to know. If I died, then Maddie could continue to the place and get Nat and Kendra. "Where are they?" I repeated for the final time.

'With-" He looked like he was trying to fight it. I focused even harder on the spell. "With my wife."

"Where's your wife?" I asked.

"To-to the right, and it will be there. It's a little shack that has a black roof, unlike-" Then he broke the spell, but I didn't need to know any more. "

"Thank you, but your time is way overdue. Amna." Destroy, I said. He unfortunately blocked that. "Sagan." Zap, I said. The ghost disappeared and didn't come back. "Come on Maddie. We should get going to the right."

"Okay, let's go." She looked really shaken up from the ghost. Then I realized that she didn't help me kill the ghost at all.

"What's wrong?" I asked.

"Nothing. Come on, our life forces will be draining quickly."

"Fine then we'll go. Let's run so we can get out of here ASAP!" We ran to the next tunnel on the right. Sure enough there was a little shack with a black roof. "There." We ran over to it, and I pulled open the door. "You ready to back me up?" I asked.

"Yep, go." I ran inside and had my wand ready, almost like a cop does when they have a gun.

"Hello, my darlings." A little old lady said. She was a ghost as well, but she actually sounded like an old woman. "What brings you here?" I ran up to her and put my wand to her heart.

"Where are my friends?"

"Which ones? I don't know any of your friends." The lady said innocently and tried to push my wand away.

"Natalie and Kendra. Your husband gave you away." It didn't really occur to me that we could've just walked into a trap.

"Oh them." The lady snapped her fingers and Maddie and I fell.

"Sagan." Zap, I tried saying, but I was too late. We were falling and soon we were beside Nat and Kendra. Ethan was there guarding them.

"So you came to join the party? Well don't worry, this'll be over quickly. You're trial is tomorrow."

"Trial?"

"Yes, you can't just come to the land of the dead, when you're alive. It says dead for a reason. Your life forces may be gone before your trial." He laughed. "You won't be getting out of here alive. Mark my word, this is the last place you'll ever see." And I had a bad feeling he could be right.
