Chapter 28
So after my dad left, our train got to the train station in the City of the Dead an hour later.
Nat and I decided to run, because we knew Brooke and Brent would be using magic on normal people, and they'd be coming as quickly as possible! Just the thought of Brooke-ug! I didn't want to kill her, but if it meant keeping the ghosts from rising then I would do that. If I could save the world, then I would!
Actually the more I thought about it, the more I got used to the fact that I would have to kill Brooke. She would kill anyone that got in the way of her buddies rising. It'd be a safer world if she was gone!
"Nat, this place worries me. There's a lot of tombs here so the ghosts could really be living here!"
"I know, but we have to do this! The parchment showed a picture of this place. We have to find the clue so we can move on!"
"Let's get this place done quickly. Nat, where should we go? This is a whole city! We have to move quickly and can't look around everywhere for it! Before we knew it was the Pyramids and the Sphinx! Now we have no idea where to go!"
"True say. Let's look at the picture again and we can see if we can see any specific place." Sure enough when we looked at the picture a graveyard was slightly darker than the rest of the picture. "Let's ask around!"
"Okay." So we went to the travel information desk in the train station. "Excuse me," I said. "Do you know where this graveyard is?"
"That is in the center of the city. It's our biggest graveyard."
"What's its name?"
"It has no name. It's so old, we have no name."
"Can we take a taxi?" Nat asked.
"No, you walk. We have no taxis around here."
"Oh, alright thanks." So Nat and I had to run. "Nat, let's put down Maddie, she's too heavy."
"Good idea!" So Maddie went down, and we ran with her on a leash. I'm sure the locals didn't see a pig on a leash everyday.
Sure enough as the lady at the train station had said, there were no taxis, no cars, and no electronics. People were walking and had candles in their windows. The most advanced thing in the city was definitely the train station.
That place was a strange place. There were only white and grey houses that weren't made out of brick. They were only made out of stone and maybe mud, but were coated in dust. There were tomb openings in the middle of the street. It didn't smell very good either. I think that most people who died here were left to rot in their homes. So we ran to get away from the smell too.
After about ten minutes of running we arrived at the graveyard. It was really creepy. There was no flowers, no grass, and no colour. I guess just like the city.
"Candace, Maddie have your wands, um magic ready. Some ghost will probably come to see us and try to kill us."
"I'm ready." Maddie oinked in agreement. Sure enough a minute later a ghost did appear, but she didn't look like Mohammad or the king ghost. She looked more happy and um alive? If you could call a ghost alive! In my dream Brooke had looked like Mohammad, but also like this girl. Was she part ghost? Was she a ghost, but part good and part bad?
I pointed my wand at her. "Who are you?" I demanded.
"You can put your wand away Candace Brown, and Natalie Genstine you don't need yours either." She walked towards us. "Oh Maddie, how are you? I've missed you!" She tried giving Maddie a hug, but floated right through her. Did she know Maddie or something?
"We turned her good." I blurted out.
"Yes, she was under a spell. She was always good. We used to be friends." She said sadly.
"You were friends with a flying pig?" I asked.
"Yes I was, well not quite a flying pig...." Her voice trailed off.
"Wait," I said. "Maddie wasn't always a pig was she?"
"Oh no, she wasn't."
"She was a person wasn't she?" Nat asked surprised.
"Yes, her and I used to be very good friends. In fact we were best friends three years ago."
"Tell us the story." I suggested. This sounded interesting.
"Okay, but you have to trust me."
"Tell us your name first."
"My name is Kendra."
"Okay we'll trust you now." I know, I was a bit rash, but I wanted to hear the story.
"Good so what happened all started a couple of years ago. Like I said Maddie and I had been best friends. We were in grade nine when we discovered magic. IF you just graduated grade twelve then we're the same age."
"Yeah, our clones were at our graduation. We weren't there."
"That is disappointing. Well anyways our parents hadn't told us. One day we saw a monster and our wands just appeared in our hands. We somehow knew magic words and destroyed the monster quickly and easily. From then on we just got better and better, but on the last day of grade nine, I got a call at school and I was told my parents had been killed. I knew it had to do with magic. I ran home and found a note from my parents that told me they were going on a mission."
"Wait," I interrupted. "Did your parents know you knew about magic?"
"Yes, and they were perfectly fine with it too. They would've told me when I was in grade ten anyways."
"Lucky, we only learned about magic like two weeks ago or something like that. If not less, and our parents were really upset about that so we had to make clones and sneak away to go on our mission. Why are you a ghost, but you don't look like the bad ghosts. You look happier and a bit more full of life."
"I may be dead, but I had good things in life. I don't look upset and I feel happy. I had good things to live for, the bad ghosts didn't. The goodness in them is totally gone. They look upset and the only thing that gives them joy and happiness is killing and making pain for others. Good magicians go to graveyards when they die. That may be changing though. I can talk to other ghosts, and lately my friends have gone missing. I think a world for the dead magicians, ghosts, anything like that, is coming." Kendra said.
"Oh, is that good or not?"
"It's good. Okay, so my parents had gone on a mission and I never knew what it was for, but I knew they were killed by ghosts or some monster. So, I went to live with Maddie's family from then on. A little while after my parent's mission, during summer break, Maddie and I had to go on a mission."
"What was your mission?" Nat asked.
"We were to find three sorcerers named Boco, Sono, and Romo, the tree brother sorcerers." I was about to interrupt, but I didn't because I figured I'd wait till the end to talk to Romo. "We had to go to three different countries, their hometowns, to defeat them. First to defeat Boco, we had to go to Antarctica. We went and found Boco, then he made it more challenging for us, and decided to turn into a penguin to blend in with everyone else that lived there since basically Antarctica is the home of the penguins. We were there for an entire twenty-four hours trying to find a penguin who had blue eyes. Boco had blue eyes and we knew that wouldn't be changed so that was the only way we found him. The rest of the penguins have black eyes. We finally found him and had a huge fight. Maddie got a broken toe and I sprained my ankle, but we kept going."
"You killed Boco right?" I asked.
"Yep, so the next place was Australia and there, we had to find Sono. We looked all over and then got a clue that we had to go to the Great Barrier Reef. So we went scuba diving and found Sono. It was probably the greatest underwater battle ever. Sono was very powerful, he was a water sorcerer and knew every little thing about water. He was also a changer and could be an eel, fish, or any underwater animal. We almost got zapped a couple of times and were almost eaten, but we got a lucky zap of lightning underwater and that hit Sono right in the heart. He died. Finally we were onto Romo. We had to go to Egypt to find him. We found him when we were least expecting it. He actually found us, and he's definitely the most powerful out of the three of them! We were sleeping, luckily with our wands, and he brought us to the Sphinx like it's his lucky place ot fight. When he put us down, we woke up and got ready to fight. Within seconds Maddie was down. Romo was on top of her and must've through she would make a good monster, because the next thing I knew she was a pig. She was still unconscious, so I was lucky otherwise I'd have to people to fight. I wanted revenge for Maddie, it was an hour fight and I was tiring. Romo was weak too. I was about to blow the last strike when Romo tripped me and got the last blow. He killed me, but I knew he'd be out of commission for awhile too. I think he just recently came back."
"I'm so sorry!" Nat said. She looked at me and I nodded. "Romo was back, he tried to kill us too, but Candace killed him. Kendra he's gone. Maddie fought too the first time we saw him and she looked mad, but also scared."
"Thank you for killing him." Kendra said quietly.
"Your welcome and we fought him on the Sphinx too. Is there anyway to bring you back to life?" Nat asked.
"Yes, but it might kill you."
"Wait, you and Maddie were hurt/killed/turned into a monster in Egypt. Is that why you're in an Egyptian cemetery?"
"Probably, you're the first visitors I've ever had. I think I may be going to the world of the dead soon and then you can't bring me back."
"Then we're going to try to bring you back to life and try to switch Maddie back to a human. We need you guys."
"If you die..." Kendra started.
"I brought Nat to life again once and she healed me super quick too so one day delay won't be terrible." I said. Really one day was a lot, because Brooke and Brent would be coming, but if we had more people, then we could fight Brooke and have a better chance at winning.
"If you're sure."
"Yep. Funlomo." Life, I said and into the blackness I went, hoping I hadn't died.
