Chapter 22
"Wait, you know Maddie?" I asked.
"Yes, I do. So does your friend Brooke-"
"She is NOT a friend." I said right away. No way would anyone say she was a friend of mine. That was the biggest lie I'd heard in awhile.
"Well friend or not, we still have to kill you so you can cooperate and it'll be a quick death. There is the other option which is fight and it'll be a very slow, painful death. Your choice."
"Whose ghost are you?" I asked trying to buy some time so I could think of a plan. Are you Khafre's ghost?"
"No, I'm not Khafre. I'm just a little minor ghost no one has ever heard of. Blah, blah, blah."
"How were you raised from the dead? I thought you needed a human sacrifice."
"We did, but the sorcerers have learned a new trick to raise us. One by one. It's a slow process, but we will have it done."
"Very nice." Nat said sarcastically. "Does Brooke know about this?"
"Yes, she's our queen as you know. She's the one we go to for resolving things, and passing new laws. We've had an interesting history."
"How come you were raised first? If you are just a minor ghost and not the most powerful."
"Because I have powers that are needed at the moment. I was the one who got Brooke to come to our side. I'm more powerful than you think. I'm not the most powerful, but I am pretty good at convincing people, I must say. That's why I was sent for you. They can't tell where you are, but I can now that I'm alive.":
This guy was pretty funny, and I would've been laughing if the situation wasn't so serious. He was a joke. "You can try to bring us to your side, but you'll never succeed." I said boldly.
"Really?" Within seconds Nat, Maddie, and I were all tied to chairs.
"How-" Nat started to ask.
"Our side is very powerful. More powerful than you thought." He paused dramatically. "Now, we have a little presentation for you. This is how it works, you stay tied to a chair unless you chose to join our side. Tricking, laughing, and eating are not permitted during the presentation." I almost burst out laughing at that, but I decided that he was pretty convincing and his voice sounded so inviting. I tried to block him out. It didn't work. His voice made everything sound so happy and fun, besides being inviting.
"There are some major upsides to joining our side. The first one is any past grudges, well we don't care if you kill them or not! You have so much freedom, you only have to talk to me, Kagi, or Brooke and you can go ahead and kill them. You probably can't kill someone on our side, but sometimes it can be permitted. Now, you also have unlimited power. You could be so powerful, you could take over the whole world! That is with a little bit of help. You also can never die. Physically you can, but then you just become a ghost, and ghost's can't die. Although you will have some sudden cravings for KFC and you can't trace people, but anyways...you could be a leader over everyone! You can do things however you please, you can use dark magic and become better at magic really quickly. All you would have to do is fight. You will be expected of that and if you're not a good fighter, we'll send you to try and kill magicians on the opposing side. Now any-wait, I also forgot that you will be able to take vacations whenever you want. I once went to Hawaii, beautiful place. Any questions?" The ghost asked.
None of us answered.
"Perfect. Now then I also do have to tell you the tinny tiny things that aren't great about our side. You can not see family again, and you can never leave training until you pass the test, or until we send you on a mission to kill some magicians. Any other questions, or anything you would like to add?"
"Yes," I said. The ghost looked very hopeful. "First of all is this a joke? I find this pretty funny, so thanks for being the entertainment of the day. Then second, you forgot to add that being on your side is the worst thing ever, and even if you're a ghost, you could never do anything!"
The ghost wrote something down, like he was taking notes, and then he turned to me. "Don't worry, when you rise then you can do anything you want. When you are totally dead then, yes you can't do anything except wait your turn to rise again. That shoudn't take too long. Are any of you interested in joining? It's a party!"
"Never." I snarled. "Right Nat?" Nat hesitated. "Nat, you can't actually be considering this, can you? This is all a lie and a big joke! He's just trying to convince you."
"I don't know Candace." I was glad to be sitting beside her, because I turned my head, leaned over, and bit her arm. I would've pinched her, but my hands were tied up.
"OW! What was that for?" She demanded.
"You were considering joining the evil side. The ghost side, the Brooke side, whatever you want to call it."
"Right, thanks for biting me."
"No prob, any time!"
"I take it then that you are both uninterested in joining then. Maddie I assume you aren't either, I already know the answer to that. Well then we'll just have to kill you. What a shame you-" He never got to finish. I used my head for magic and tried it without a wand. It worked because my rope untied, and I picked up my wand which was on the floor, and I looked at the ghost.
"How did you do that? We could really use you. No magician has ever done magic without a wand unless.....NO!" He flashed away.
I quickly said, "Gigia." Untie, and Nat and Maddie's ropes fell to the floor. "We gotta go! He'll be back. Come on, have a shield ball around you and be ready to fight."
Nat and Maddie got up and we ran for, well I had no idea where. We were running in our shield balls again. (Even Maddie.)
Soon we entered another room. This time the ghost was waiting for us. "Thought you could escape me? You were wrong if you did."
"No, I didn't think we couldn't escape you, I knew we could escape you."
"How did you think that?"
"How did you think we wouldn't escape you?" I argued.
"I asked first."
"So?"
"Fine, I can keep finding you unless-" He stopped.
I narrowed my eyes. "Unless what?"
"Unless...I can't tell you and I won't." He folded his arms accross is chest. (Just so you know, ghosts look like normal people, but the are see through and white. I'm assuming they look like they did when they were alive, but more dead I guess and ghost-like.)
"Leva." Talk, I said out of the blue. "Unless what?"
"Unless you kill me." He blurted out and then he covered his mouth. I focused on the spell more.
"How do we do that?" Nat asked. I could tell he was trying to fight the spell, but since I strenghtened it, he couldn't.
"You-you cast the kill spell."
"Which is?"
"You know it. You know all the one worded s-" Then he broke out of my spell.
"YOU'RE DEAD MEAT CANDACE BROWN." He yelled. Before I could say anything, he was on top of me.
If you're thinking, how can a ghost be on top of you, I was too. I learned that if they are alive, they have mass, but they still look misty and ghost-like. If you're also wondering where my shied was well, it kind of disappeared when I cast the leva spell. I regretted that after. Atleast Nat could cast the kill spell if I died, which I had a good chance of doing.
"You're very powerful missy. Now you will be dead, and all the ghosts will know that the great powerful Mohammed killed you!Ha ha!" At first I thought Mohammed? I would have never guessed that, but then I remembered the situation and that I was about to die. I closed my eyes and waited for the painful strike.
You're probably thinking, oh it'll never come, but it did. Right in the shoulder too, which really hurt. I was stabbed with something.
"OW!" I screamed. I had never been in that much pain. "Aca." Back, I somehow managed. Mohammad was off of me in seconds. "Nat help!"
Nat ran over to help me fight. "Are you alright?"
"No! My shoulder kills."
"I bet, it's bleeding really bad."
"Can we just kill him?" I asked.
"We will, but it's going to be a long painful death if we can make it that way."
"How?"
"Get him to lie down."
"NAT WATCH OUT!" I screamed.
"Icarum Sundo." Shield me, we both said. Maddie also went into a shield bubble and ran towards Mohammad. I saw a strike of lightning go down from the roof? I don't know where from, but I saw someone fly back.
I ran over despite my shoulder killing me. "Maddie? MADDIE!" I went over to the one who went flying backwards. It was Mohammad. I started breathing again. I was so relieved it wasn't Maddie.
Looking back, I should've killed the ghost right there, but I worried about Maddie. I looked behind me and Maddie was standing beside Nat. I sighed with relief, Maddie was safe. "CANDACE! Shield ball!" Nat screamed at me. Too late, I was tackled again. (I was getting sick of being tackled.) That time I rolled over so I was on top of Mohammad.
"You will not yet away with this Mohammie. Suncana." Blast. (Somehow I managed to come up with a nick name for Mohammad even at a time like that.) Mohammad was blasted and looked even more dead, if that was possible.
"Candace Brown, you will die. Not by my hand, but by my master. Either the master or a ghost. You will die."
"How do you know?" I challenged. I didn't like thinking about dying right now. I almost died about fifty times since the mission began, so I was getting used to it, but still.
"Because I will send them after you, and they hate you too."
"KIMAN!" Kill, I yelled. I didn't know if he would tell all his buddies who were also dead, but I didn't care. Then I remembered my shoulder after seeing a puddle of blood, and the world went black for a long time.
"Candace?"
"Uh." I grunted.
"Are you okay?"
"No I-" I didn't ever finish.
I was dreaming again. This time it was just of Brooke. I didn't know where she was. "Mohammad, why did you die? She killed you? That's just embarrassing!" Then she came out into the light. Brooke and Mohammad seemed to be in a forest, and it was nighttime. Brooke was very pale and was wearing a white dress. She was-no she couldn't be. She looked like a ghost! She was even floating!
"I know, my queen. May I add that you look beautiful tonight."
"Thank you, but flattering will not work."
"I know my lady. I have failed you, but if you give me one more chance."
"No Mohammad. You were given your chance. You will not get it for awhile. Others need a chance to prove themselves." I still was so confused! Brooke wasn't dead! She couldn't be! I chose not to believe that she was dead and the lighting of my dream was really bad.
"I'm sorry. I am going to kill her one day. Just wait and see. She will die. I will send every army I have against her, and she will never stand a chance."
