Chapter 20

I jumped with a start. "Nightmares?" Nat asked. I nodded. I didn't feel like talking about it. It was a disturbing thought that Brooke would use our souls to bring up the dead.

"How much longer?" I asked. It felt like we'd been on for only a couple of minutes, but I had slept pretty much the entire flight.

"About half an hour." Nat said. We sat there for the last half hour, and I was glad to get off. I started feeling unsafe on the plane after I woke up.

"Let's go. Brooke and Brent are around here." I said. "We have to call a taxi and go!"

"Okay. Wait, there's a taxi outside. Let's see if we can catch it, so we can go quicker." I was getting really freaked out. We couldn't let Brooke or Brent see us. We couldn't let them talk to us, or even let them think they saw us. I looked over at the food court, and there they were.

They didn't seem to see us, but I still panicked. "Go, Nat! GO!" I hissed. "I see them." We had both made a decision that we would try to avoid them at all costs and hopefully deal with Brooke after the mission was done. We ran out to the taxi and had some luck, because a taxi was available, and Brooke and Brent hadn't see us that we knew of. Unfortunately we knew nothing.

We soon saw a taxi following us. "Nat, it's them."

"Oh, no! Go fast please. One hundred extra pounds if you go really fast and loose the cab behind us." The taxi driver put on the gas and we were off. Once we didn't see them we relaxed a bit, but they knew where we were headed.

"Pull into the next exit please, or the next McDonald's parking to." I said. The exit took five minutes to get to, but it felt like a lot longer. "We just need a break. We'll be back in ten minutes." I said. Hopefully the taxi would wait, but he wouldn't go if he didn't have his money. We took our backpacks anyways just in case. He did nod, but he may not have understood us. "Nat, where should we go? Brent and Brooke will be at the Pyramids looking for us. They know where we're going." I told her about my dream so she could realize the situation was more serious then it seemed to her.

"Candace, we have terrible luck."

"I know. Let's just pay the taxi driver and find a place to camp for the night. Just relax tomorrow and then sleep one more night at camp. Then we can go again. Hopefully they'll have given up by then on their search and we can continue on."

"Okay, we can just have a relaxing day that we need, and we can just plan what to do." We went to pay the taxi driver his money, plus his extra one hundred pounds.

"Have a nice day." The taxi driver told us.

"Thanks, you too." We waved and started walking towards the edge of the little town. We soon found a spot behind some buildings, and we set up camp there. Maddie became a pig again and we let her sleep in the tent for a bit so she could stand guard while we slept..

"Nat, the plan is we stay here for a day and then go to Giza. The Sphinx is on the same property as the Pyramids so maybe we have to go there next. It would make sense if the clue told us to go there after the Pyramids. Let's go to the biggest one, but this time, no sightseeing."

"No, definitely no sightseeing. Sounds like a plan. Should we try using the open spell to see if there's a tomb in there?"

"Sure. I have no idea what to do from there." I said as I looked at my watch. "Nat our graduation is in an hour, and we're here doing nothing. Nat we can't just stay her for a day. I think we should stay for the night and go." For some reason thinking about our graduation made me mad and sad. I didn't want to just sit around and waste my time, since because of this mission I missed one of the biggest things in my life! We would have been graduating in one hour, if our lives were normal.

"I know Candace. I know how you feel. It sucks sitting here and doing nothing, but we have to be careful. We can't risk meeting up with Brooke or Brent. Meeting Brooke could cost us our lives, and we'd never receive that diploma ourselves."

"I'm sick of running away though! All we ever do is wait or run away from danger."

"No, we don't Candace. That just means we are more cautious. We both agreed to wait anyways. It would be safer. We fought all those monsters and the pink spiked one. We stood our ground and fought, unlike Brooke and Brent who ran away. At least we think they did."

"You're right." Suddenly a light bulb appeared above my head. "Nat we have to start learning spells that are more than one word. We could be so powerful!" I exclaimed.

"That's genius, but who's supposed to teach us? Your parents? They're not here."

"Well, we knew all the one-worded spells off the top of our heads, we probably know all the major spells too."

"Okay, let's try it!" Nat agreed.

"What do we try it on?" I asked.

"Make our tent turn into a house?" Nat suggested.

"The only problem is, what if that goes wrong? We need our tent. Let's try something smaller.

"How about making our snack sized Doritos bag into a huge bag?"

"Sure, you want to try first?"

"Yeah!" Truthfully I wanted to go first, but I had to be nice to Nat. I thought I hadn't been the greatest friend lately.

"Kaka mama naba naba, muchie munchie Dorito maca." I couldn't translate that into English for you, but I did know what it meant. It just meant make the Doritos bag big.

Now you may be wondering why aren't they just using the  Kana big spell. The more than one word spells are much more powerful. To prove my point, we got a five foot tall bag which was filled with Doritos so big, I would need to take fifty big bites to finish just one.

"Oh my, nice Nat! Those look really good!"

"Try one." Nat dared me. She probably thought it would taste terrible.

I  bit one. "Pft! This is disgusting." Really that was the best Dorito I'd ever had, so I couldn't share it with Nat.

"Let me try one." Nat said probably suspecting that they were good, due to my terrible acting.

"Nat, you don't want one. They are so gross!" I exclaimed while taking another bite of my huge Doritos.

"That's why you're eating it right?"

"Nope, I was always taught to finish what I started. I wanted to continue that."

"Just give me one!" She bit into it and gave me a dirty look. "This is the vest Doritos I've ever had! You liar."

"I just wanted them for myself." I said in an innocent voice.

"Candace, I know these are amazingly good, but I think we should give the whole bag for Maddie. She needs more than she eats already. This should fill her up."

"But-well fine. Now can I do something too?"

"Yeah, what should you do?"

"We can do anything. You know what I feel like snow."

"Cand-"

"Don't worry, it'll only be above us." I started chanting. "Pleap pleap blaca blac sunco muncho anymambo." Suddenly there was a little cloud above us and it was snowing. My spell had something to do with a cloud of snow above me and Nat. Like I said, it's really hard to translate into English.

"Nice, Candace!" Nat high-fived me. "Now can you make it disappear? I'm getting cold."

"Sure. Discan." Disappear. I pointed my wand at the cloud and it went away.

"Thanks, should we wake up Maddie and go to sleep?"

"Yeah sure. I think we should, but we can't go to sleep until she's full or until the Doritos are gone." Nat laughed. It was nice to hear someone laugh. We hadn't laughed since, we left ten days ago.

"I'll wake her up." I said. I walked into the tent. "Hi Maddie. Time to get up." Maddie instantly woke up. "Maddie, we have a surprise for you." I brought her outside the tent, and showed her the Doritos bag. She dug in. After twenty minutes, the bag was empty, and Maddie was full.

"Can you keep watch?" Nat asked. Maddie nodded and oinked.

"We're going to take a nap for awhile. As soon as it's light lr even as soon as you see any light in the sky, wake us up, okay?" I asked.

Maddie once again oinked. "Nat we should go when it's dark! Then Brooke and Brent will take a break and we can avoid them. Then we don't have to wait a day either."

"Yes! Maddie wake us up in an hour and then we'll go." With that Nat and I fell asleep and I once again had a fit full sleep filled with dreams of Brooke and Brent.
