Chapter 19

It was bright and early in the morning. Nat was still sleeping so I decided to quickly pack up my stuff. We had to go! Brooke was evil, but could I leave Brent? I had to. It would save Nat and my lives. Brooke wanted Brent to be her king, so he would live. All I knew though was that if we were reunited with Brooke, well it wouldn't be a happy occasion. We would have to make a grand escape or fight to the death.

I quickly had breakfast, and kept some food and water out for Nat and Maddie. I moved Nat's mattress out with her on it and boxed the tent. We had to move. I knew Brooke and Brent would be coming.

"Maddie, if we see Brooke, watch her. She's evil and can't be trusted." Maddie snorted and stomped her feet. I think she was mad.

"I know, it sucks, but we can't do anything about this! Now we have to wake up Nat and then you'll have to become a purse again. Sorry."

We woke Nat up and she seemed much better. She wanted to do magic, but I didn't let her. She almost died! "Nat we have to go."

"Why?"

"I'll explain later." I quickly packed up her stuff and we went. We ran to the airport and asked someone to call a taxi. Soon we were on our way.

"So why did we have to go so suddenly?" Nat asked carefully. She couldn't wait could she?

"Brooke is working for the ghosts."

"You just don't like her."

"No, well no I don't like her, but that's actually true. I told her about my awful dream.

"Oh no! What about Brent?"

"They'll find us Nat and the only thing we can do is confront Brooke, and then fight to the death with her. We can't pretend everything's okay when she's rally the enemy. As soon as we see her we have to talk to her, or we could run away too."

"I like the running away part better."

"Yep, me too, but we gotta do what we gotta do."

"Candace, we have to make a strategy. We can't just keep going on and hoping for the best."

"I know. Well we'll arrive at the Pyramids of Giza in about an hour. Then we have to start looking for things. Should we go to the biggest one and search there?"

"Sure, I wonder if the thing we need is in like a secret tomb or something. And the only way we can find it is if we go through a secret entrance."

"I think you may be right. After that we'll just go with it. Who knows what we'll find, or even if we'll make it out of there alive."

"Thanks for boosting my confidence." Nat said sarcastically.

"No problem."

"We have to save all our money. We have to sleep in our tent every night, no hotels. Brent can stay with us if we find him, and Brooke?"

"Will hopefully be gone." I said. "It'll make life much easier."

"It will, I can't believe she would do that. The tattoo must be a symbol of loyalty to the ghosts or something. Her whole story is a lie." Nat said angrily.

"I know Nat. She's a big fat pig-no cow headed liar." I didn't want to offend Maddie.

"Next time I'll listen to you. If you don't trust someone, I won't either. And Candace?"

"Yep?"

"I do want to be your best friend. I like you way better than Brooke or Brent."

"Aw thanks Nat. I couldn't ask for anyone better."

The rest of the ride we talked and figured out what we were going to do after the mission. Soon we were Giza and at the pyramids.

"Finally!" I said. "They're so cool! Should we do a bit of sight seeing before we go to work?"

"Sure why not? We're here anyways. We may never come back."

We ran to the first pyramid after paying the taxi and grabbing our stuff. I suddenly heard a clunk and spun around. Nat lay crumpled up on the ground.

"Nat? Are you okay? What happened?" I asked. Suddenly I heard another clunk and I crumpled to the ground.

Hours, or even a day or two passed when I finally woke up. (At least it felt like forever.) I was tied to something and my mouth was gagged. I also had a bad headache. I saw Maddie, and our bags beside u. I just needed my wand to get myself untied.

"Mmmhmm." I tried saying Maddie's name, but I couldn't since I had a gag over my mouth. She looked at me though, if a purse can look at you. I moved my head back, but that was my first mistake. That made my head hurt even more, and it hit something hard, so my headache got worse. Way worse. I think Maddie got the message though. She turned back into a pic and came over and bit the rope hard. It broke and my arms were looser. I had to do a bit of work myself, but Maddie sure helped. Once I got out, I flexed my arms, but that also hurt. I had some nasty rope burns on my arms, but I decided to just deal with the pain and I untied my gag. "Thank you so much Maddie!"I turned around and saw Nat just waking up. I realized that I had hit her head and not something else. Whoops.

"Maddie what happened?" I asked. She started oinking, but that didn't help. I couldn't speak pig. I ran over to our backpacks and checked for my wand. Luckily it was there which was a relief.

"Come on Nat, Maddie we need to get out of here." Then I remembered that I had to help Nat get the ropes off her. Since we had been tied back to back, I had pretty much taken off her ropes. She untied her gag.

"Candace, you can't teleport remember?"

"Oh right. Well, we'll just have sneak out then." That's when I made my second mistake. I opened the door which was unlocked and alarms started blaring. Maddie changed into a purse again, so I grabbed her and my backpack. I started to run, "Nat you with me?" I asked.

"Yep."

"Good, do you have your wand ready?"

"Yep, be ready to fight." We kept running even though our heads (at least my head) hurt really badly, and we had no idea where to go. We kept running and looking for an exit. I figured exits would be guarded by something or someone. Maddie decided to turn back into a pig, so I put her down.

"Nat SHIELD!" I yelled. I sensed something was coming. "Icarum Sundo." Shield me, we said. Even Maddie made a shield for herself. Suddenly bullets started coming. We were all in balls, so the bullets could come from any direction and not hurt us. Nat, Maddie, and I ran in our shield balls. They were kind of like big hamster balls, that were magic and nothing could get through them, unless magic weakened them.

"Nat, exit!" I yelled. I saw light and hoped we found an exit. It turned out we ran into some huge stadium.

"Welcome Candace Brown, and Natalie Genstine. We have been expecting you to come. Drop the shields and hold back the pig, so no one gets hurt." A mysterious, evil voice said. Suddenly we were surrounded by monsters that I couldn't even explain. That's how weird they were. Nat and I looked at each other and dropped our shields. Maddie also did too. There was no sense in fighting all the monsters.

"What do you wand?" I snarled.

"You to stop." The voice answered.

"Stop what?"

"Your mission."

"Then come and fight us yourself and stop being such a coward." I said boldly.

The voice chuckled. "Your bold Candace Brown, You will not use trickery on me. I do not fall for the little tricks that you play."

"Who are you then?" Nat asked.

"I am the assistant of our leaders. Almost as powerful."

"SHOW YOURSELF!" I yelled. "Or do you want to let all your monster friends die?"

"No Candace Brown. You have made a good last stance. Even Brooke has joined our side and you will too. The other option is you die. What shall it be?"

"We will never ever join your side! Never in a million years. I would rather die." Nat said.

"Then die you will. Attack my monsters." And that's when everything went crazy. I had no idea what Nat was doing. All I knew was that I had a battle to win. I was so mad! That cowardly thing, wouldn't fight us itself. Brooke joined the ghosts, and she could convince Brent to join her side. Nat, Maddie, and I might die, so that was not too great. Hopefully you could see why I was mad. I felt myself growing stronger and stronger as I got madder and madder.

"Sagan," Zap, I yelled. Lightning came down from the sky, (Even though we were in a building. I still don't know how that worked.) Lightning just kept coming and zapped about ten monsters. Ten monsters down, about one hundred more to go.

"Amna." Destroy, I heard Nat yell. I also decided to do that. I pointed my wand at a huge monster and he disappeared. "SUCANCA." Blast, I yelled, and I destroyed about fifty more monsters. Nat or Maddie must've done something too, because suddenly all the monsters were gone.

"Run!" Nat exclaimed, and boy did we ever run. We took twists and turns, but we never stopped running.

"Nat, where do we go?" I asked.

"Just keep running straight. I can sense an exit coming up ahead." Then we saw it. I had never seen a better exit in my life. (That day I learned to appreciate the exit signs.) Just as we were about to leave, someone appeared in front of us.

"Uh, uh, uh." The person said in a very familiar voice. "You will not leave here alive."

"You wanna bet?" I asked.

"Wait," Nat said. "You're the voice from the stadium."

"Yes, very good. You recognized my voice. Now I will introduce myself. I am Romo, the sorcerer, brother of Sono and Boco."

"So you're the one we are supposed to hunt down?" I asked. I couldn't believe we found the end so quickly. We didn't' even have to go to the pyramids.

"No, no Candace. Like I said in the stadium. I am just the second in command. You have to find someone much more powerful than I." Romo explained.

"But in the stadium you said they were only a little more powerful than you."

"I was bluffing." Romo tried to cover up his mistake.

"So then Sono or Boco are the first  in command?" I asked trying to trick him into telling me who was the one we needed to fight.

"Hardly." He muttered. That's when Maddie breathed fire at Romo.

She must've caught him off guard, because his robe caught on fire. "You're lucky Candace and Natalie, but we will meet again, and you will not escape alive." He turned to Maddie. "And next time, I will not be so gracious to you, I will kill you like your friend." With that friendly goodbye, Romo left.

"Let's go Nat." Then I squatted down to congratulate Maddie. "Good job Maddie. You saved us! We'll give you extra food tonight. Now let's see where are we?"

We ran out the exit and just kept running. I had no idea what the locals thought of us running around with a pig, but I guess they didn't see that everyday.

After running for a good ten minutes, we stopped to ask someone where we were. "Excuse me ma'am. Where are we?"

She looked confused and walked away. "Thanks anyways." I mumbled. "All I can say is this isn't Egypt. It's too cold to be and there's no sand."

"Candace, all these people are blond."

"Well, so are you so your point?"

"We're probably in a different continent then Egypt."

"Oh great. We not only leave Egypt, but we leave the entire continent of Africa!"

"Yeah, we're good at messing up. Excuse me? What country are we in?" Nat asked a man.

"Russia." The man said with a very thick Russian accent.

"Oh, alrighty then. Thank you. How far is it to the closest airport?"

"Ten minutes walk."

"Can you tell us how to get there?" I asked. The man told us the directions and we were on our way. "Thanks again." I yelled to him as we walked away. "Come on Nat, we got to go!" Off we went. We quickly got to the airport and bought tickets to the Cairo Airport again. Our flight left an hour after we bought the tickets and we got the last two seats on the flight.

"Candace, we have to go to the bathroom so Maddie can turn back into a purse." Nat said.

"Okay, then we can buy some food." So we quickly went into the bathroom and came out with a pig purse. We ate at McDonald's and bought a lot of snacks and sandwiches to go.

Then we boarded our flight. The flight wasn't going to be too long, unlike the way to Cairo from Canada. I decided to try to sleep, because on missions, you never knew when you could rest again. I did fall asleep and dreamt of Brooke and Brent.

"Brent they're gone. They must've left without us, or been killed by monsters." Brooke said. Oh that little rat! She made me mad.

"Brooke, they wouldn't leave without us. Somethings not right. All I can think of is not letting up on the search. I'm sorry, but we will find them. I'm going to check with the airport desk again." Brent walked away while Brooke started pouting.

"That's why I will kill them." She said and she walked into the one person bathroom. She said some ancient language that I didn't understand, and suddenly a ghost appeared.

"Brooke you must prove thyself." The ghost whispered. "You have this mission to kill them, or it will be your um, body, I guess you could say that will be used to rise us."

"You cannot force me to do anything. I am your queen."

"And what about thy king? Which one will you choose?" The ghost asked, but I didn' t think that made any sense.

"He will join us. Once he knows the true story. We will win and he will be on our side. As for which one..."

"Hurry, time is running out Brooke and fast." Then I woke up.
