Can't Blame Us Girls For Trying

Chapter 17

Two Weeks Later

Samantha was worried. She was worried about Jacob. She worried that something must of happened to him. Seeing as how she's called multiple times as well as leaving him several messages on his phone. Every Time she called, she's hope it would be Jacob on the other line but it would always end up Billy who would answer her calls. From what Billy had told her, it was some type of sickness, mono. Aside from her boyfriends sickness problem, she would check up on Bella every now and then to see that she was getting better.

"Hey it's Jake leave a message!"

Frustrated at the voicemail she has heard for no more then one hundred times, she hanged up and threw herself back on her bed.

"Still nothing?" Derek asked her leaning against her doorframe.

She shook her head,"I just don't get it. I mean if it's that bad shouldn't he be at the hospital?"

"I'm pretty sure Billy has an explanation behind what he's doing," he assured her, taking a seat next to her on her bed.

Whenever Jake was sick Billy would always let me go see him. I don't see how this is any difference. He's not in the hospital so it can't be that bad, she thought to herself.

The sound of her phone ringing caused her to snap out of her thoughts and answer it. She hoped it was Jacob calling her but she spoke to soon once she heard Bella's voice through the other line.

"Hey Sammy," came Bella's voice.

"Have you heard from Jake?" She added.

"Nope," was all she said back. "Look Bells I'll call you if I hear anything from him alright?" Saying a goodbye, she hanged up the call and tossed her phone to the side.

"Derek can we go for a run? I honestly need to get out of the house," she said groaning at the last part of her sentence as she tried to remember the last time she's been on a run. He quickly nodded his head eagerly. Soon enough the two, we're heading out the front door and into the woods.

After an hour or two had passed by, Derek suggested that they head back home seeing as how it was starting to rain. As they ran, Samantha began to hear rustling noises coming from behind her. Turning around she saw no one there. Noticing that Derek was far more ahead of her, she began to pick up her pace only to have someone come and sweep her off her feet and sent her flying. Once her back had connected with the tree she was flown into, she groaned and grunted at the pain but she got herself up and looked around.

Ignoring the fact that she was completely soaking wet as well as the mud that was on half the size of her clothes, she glanced up at the trees and saw Caleb causally sitting on one of the trees bark.

"Never thought I would see the day where Samantha Uley would look up to me," Caleb said with a smirk on his face.

"Don't flatter yourself," Samantha scoffed.

"What do you want?" She asks as she leaned against the tree that was behind her.

"Nothing just came to check up on you," he simply said.

"How are you and your little boyfriend?" He added but then laughed when he got no response from Samantha.

"Trouble in paradise?"

Not wanting to hear him anymore, she walked away and began to head back home but was stopped when she felt a hand on her shoulder. Sensing it was Caleb, she grabbed his arm and pushed him down so that now he was face flat on the ground.

"Never thought I would see the day where Caleb Rogers would look up to me," she mocked him.

"Don't flatter yourself," he retorted.

"As much as I love you being on top of me I'm kind of having some trouble breathing so if you-" Samantha interrupted him.

"You're a vampire you don't need to breath," she pointed out then tightened her grip on his arm.

"Well if you don't release me then I guess I'll keep the book to myself," he said which caused Samantha to release when he mentioned a book.

"Where is it?" She asks as she now held him up against a tree.

"Feisty, I like it," he winked.

Before she could say anything, a howl broke out in the thin air. Both Caleb and Samantha glanced around to see if they were any of them around them. "Until next time beautiful." With that said, Caleb removed himself from Samantha's and took off. Knowing whose howl it was, Samantha began to run back home.

By the time she got home, it was already pouring. Quickly rushing inside, their stood everyone but Derek who was out looking for her in the woods right now. Both Dylan and Tyler gave Samantha a stern look while Frankie and Steve were too busy doing something on their phones. Ignoring Dylan's and Tyler's looks, she simply walked up the stairs and head towards her room.

Unplugging her phone from her charger, she saw that she had a missed call from Jacob as well as a voicemail from him. Right when she was about to click the voice mail, she sighed and left her phone on her lap. All she was thinking was, what is he going to say to me? Is he breaking up with me? Does he not want to talk to me? Gaining some sense, she quickly pressed the voice mail and lifted the phone to her ear.

"Hey Sammy it's Jake but you already know my name so, uh I wanted to talk to you today. Can you come by to my place like around five. T-that's about it. Bye Sammy."

At that, the voice mail had ended leaving Samantha confused at the sudden change in his voice. It was more deeper and personally to her, sexual in a way but she did not mind at all. Glancing at her alarm clock, it was three forty-one. Heading back downstairs, grabbing her keys that she had left in the kitchen counter, she noticed all the guys sure doing the table.

"What's going on?" She asks them as she walked to where they were at.

She stared at them curiously not really liking the tension she was feeling while being around them. Derek motioned for her to stand next to her. Looking at the table, she saw a piece of paper placed in the center of the table. Grabbing it, she started to read what it said.

He's coming for you

"Derek, Frankie and Steve you guys are on patrol tonight while Tyler and I take the mornings." All of them nodded their heads at Dylan's orders.

Samantha sighed at them,"You guys don't have to do this." As she said that, all of them looked at her in disbelief.

"You're kidding right? Sammy this person is basically after you. We are going to protect you no matter what. You're safety is more important than ours." Frankie told her.

She gave him a sincere smile,"And I love you guys for that but seriously you're forgetting the fact that I can handle myself perfectly well."

"We know you can. We just don't want anything to happen to you," Derek said.
Before she could say anything else the door bell rang causing Dylan to get up from his seat and go see who it is leaving Samantha to stay with the rest of the guys.

"So fine weather we're having today," Tyler blurted out my really kneeling what to say. All he wanted to do was break the awkward silence between them all.

"Yeah because rain and thunder is beautiful," Samantha said sarcastically.

He shrugged his shoulders,"It sometimes is."

"Don't go softy on us man," Steve teased nudging Tyler's shoulder.

"Yeah babe don't go softy on us. I like you're aggressive side," a soft feminine voice said that all of them new very well.Tyler was the first to get up and run over to the girl who smiled at the sight of her boyfriend.

"Hey Sammy," She greeted once her and Tyler were done making out in front of everyone.

"Hey Summer," She replied while giving her a hug. Summer was about five foot three, same age as Tyler, had blue eyes that Samantha envied as well as blonde hair.

"No hug for me?" Samantha glanced behind Summer and noticed that Miranda, Daisy, and Jennifer were all standing there. Pulling a Tyler, which consists of running, Samantha pulled them all in a group hug.

The oldest one out of all of them was Daisy who was Dylan's mate. She was an age under Dylan was five foot six, use to have the same hair color as Summer but she decided to dye it which was a strawberry blonde color and had green eyes. Now onto the second oldest which is Miranda, Steve's girlfriend. She was the same age as Steve, was a foot shorter than Daisy, had the same hair color as Summer as well as eyes.

Lastly the youngest out of all of them as well as Samantha's personal favorite, Jennifer who was Frankie's girlfriend. She was the same age as her boyfriend as well as Samantha however she was a bit taller than Samantha. She was five foot four, had the same hair color as Samantha and also had dark brown eyes.

After they all pulled apart, all the guys, except for Derek, ran to their girls and began to give them kisses leaving Derek and Samantha alone with each other. Derek gave Samantha a look that said he was disgusted well Samantha sent him a sheepish smile in return. Before Samantha came start a conversation with Derek, she was pulled into a bone crushing hug from Jennifer.

"Best friend I missed you," Jennifer squealed.

"Missed you to Jen," Samantha responded while giving a tight squeeze to Jennifer before letting go and turning on the living room television and putting on a movie for them.

A movie that Samantha knew Jennifer would yell at.

Samantha pulled up in Bella's driveway and noticed Bella sitting on the top staircase of her porch. She honked her horn which caught Bella's attention. The clumsy teenager walked to where Samantha's car was at and opened the passenger sides door and got in. Bella had called Samantha letting her know that she wanted to see Jacob today. Samantha still hasn't told Bella about Jacob's call but she decided to not tell her.

As she drove down the road, she would noticed someone was following them in the woods. Samantha knew it was Victoria because of her fiery red hair but it was also Caleb which had sent an awful feeling to Samantha's stomach. If either one of them tried to get Bella, Samantha knew she had to fight them know matter what.

Both their eyes widened when they spotted Jacob stepping out of his house shirtless. Samantha began to inspect him from where she was at. She noticed that he had cut his hair as well as twice a tattoo that looked similar to her brothers. Without thinking, Bella had opened her door and stepped out of the car despite the fact that it was pouring rain outside but apparently the Swan girl didn't care at the moment.

"God damn it Bella," Samantha muttered.

I say we chloroform the little bitch and throw her in a lake, Sia suggested

Ignoring her suggestion, Samantha began to hear the conversation between Bella and Jacob.

"Why haven't you called us back or anything? We have been worried sick about you Jake!" Bella shouted over the rain.

"Bella go away," he said sternly which caused Samantha to look at him curiously.

"What?" Bella asks him a bit taken back.

"Go away," he repeated.

"I thought you were too sick to come outside? At least pick up the phone when Samantha and I call," She told him. Jacob didn't say anything but turn his back to her and began to walk away but Bella had grabbed his arm. Samantha noticed Jacob's hand balled up in fists as if he was trying to control himself.

"Please calm down," Samantha said to herself but she was referring to Jacob who clearly had heard her. The sound of Samantha's voice had calmed himself down. He didn't know how but he was thankful for it.

"Did Sam get to you?" Bella asks him making Samantha glance at her.

What does my brother have to do with any of this? Samantha asked herself.

"Sam's trying to help me. Don't blame him." He added on,"If you want someone to blame, how about those filthy bloodsuckers you love? The Cullen's."

He knows? Wait, how is my brother helping him? Samantha thought.

Bella took a step back,"I-I don't know what you're-"

Jacob cut her off,"You know exactly what I'm talking about. You've been lying to everyone."

Samantha looked behind him and saw that her brother as well as Embry and a few other guys were standing next to him. "Sia, you don't think Jacob's a-." She couldn't even say the word without thinking about what her father had told her once about them.

Well it would make sense Sammy. You're kind usually imprints on theres', Sia explained to her.

"It's not you it's me right, really?" Said Bella who was completely soaking wet.

Jacob shook his head. "It is me. I'm n-not good. I use to be, a good kid, not anymore. This doesn't even matter alright. This is over."

"I am so confused," Samantha said out loud.

"You can't break up with me. I m-mean, you're my best friend. You promised me," Bella stuttered.

"I know. I promised you I wouldn't hurt you. And this is me keeping that promise. Go home and don't come back or you're gonna get hurt," he said then began to jog towards where Samantha's brother was at.

Soon enough, Bella came back inside the car as a shivering mess. Samantha handed her sweater to her then turned up the heater more. Not saying a word to her, Samantha got out of the car and began to jog to where Jacob was at.

"Jacob!" She called out which caused him to stop walking.

"Sammy," He muttered.

Once she reached him, she tried to make him look at but he kept on staring at the ground. "What's going on with you? You haven't answered any of my texts or calls. If something is wrong please tell me so I can fix it."

He scoffed,"There's nothing that you can do to fix this. Look just please leave me alone." He began to walk away but Samantha grabbed his wrist and held it tight to the point where a bruise might come but she didn't care right now.

"No, I am not leaving you. I-I don't know what the hell my brother did to you but if he's telling you to leave me alone then-" he cut her off when she mentioned her brother.

"You're brother isn't telling me anything. I'm doing it because I want to," he told her.

"Then look me in the eye and tell me." She took a step closer to him,"Look me straight in the eye and tell me that you don't need me anymore."

Jacob knew he couldn't do it. He needed Samantha by his side but after everything that's been happening to him he knew what he had to do. Her safety meant the world to me and if that meant pushing her away from him it was a risk he was willing to take. He began to turn around but stopped when he saw her eyes.

It was as if the world had stopped for a split second.

Samantha waited for him to say something but she looked at him curiously wondering why he was just staring at her until Sia told her what was happening.

He imprinted on you, Sia told her.

"Werewolf," Samantha breathed out which gained Jacob's attention.

"Sammy," Jacob began but stopped when Samantha began to take a few steps back away from him.

"I-uh I have to go," she stuttered then began to jog back to where her car was at before Jacob could say anything to her.

Samantha knew what Jacob was getting himself into. Of course she knew that Jacob's father was a werewolf himself but it was rare nowadays for teenagers his age to turn unless the presence of the cold ones started to show up. All Samantha wanted for Jacob was for him to not to turn into one of them. And now that they've both imprinted on one another it was going to be impossible for Samantha to keep her distance away from him.

Samantha knew that she couldn't run away from this know matter what.
