Chapter Thirteen: The Cat ended up killing the Curiosity
"No Catherine! I said no so no!" My mom yelled at me, frustrated by the amount of questions I was showering her with.
But you can't blame me though. Any ordinary teenager would be confused and would obviously demand questions as to how their sweet and not-so-reckless looking mother had a gun, let alone knew how to use it.
"But Mum..." I complained and dropped myself onto the sofa opposite to where my mom was sitting.
"Look Catherine..." My mom held onto her forehead and closed her eyes before releasing a huge sigh and getting up from the couch.
"I'm really tired right now, And I'm in no mood to have this talk with you" She directed towards me with a bored expression on her face, while walking to her room.
"And if it helps you, then about 60 percent of this neighborhood carry's guns with them. 'For their Safety'" She double quoted 'For their safety' and then turned her room's doorknob.
"Try not to think so much about this. Instead be thankful that you're okay right now or God knows what those people could have done to you" I would be lying if I said she didn't cringe at the last part of her sentence.
"Goodnight Sweetie" She smiled at me and then went out sight, into her bedroom.
I huffed out loud then glanced at my wrist watch to find out it was nearly midnight. Well, I guess I should go to bed, even though it's unusual for me to go to sleep before at least 2 Am. But today's day was absolutely tiring.
I outran a kidnapper after all.
***************************
"Earth to Catherine, are ya listening" I was brought out of my thoughts by none other than Elena.
"Uh yeah yeah, Harry got a new haircut" I replied, pertaining to the famous boyband 'One Direction', who never...and by never I mean never hold absence in Elena's 'Daily Talk'. And to be honest all this ranting and over-fangirling by Elena has made me hate them even more than I did before.
I and Elena have always been polar opposites as is quite obvious by now. And that may be the reason why both of us have radically different music tastes. I fancy Pop Rock songs whilst she is into Country Pop.
"It was not Harry. It was Liam I was talking about!" She glared at me while I awkwardly laughed and went back to eating my food.
I glanced up again only to be met by her scowling face again.
I sighed before peeping around the crowded cafeteria, searching for the three familiar faces. Until one of those popped out from the back of me and sat beside me.
"Hello ladies" Nick smiled while placing his food tray securely in front of himself.
After greeting him back. Us three conversed about how the school wasn't greatly affected by the sudden virus outbreak.
However, the conversation did become quite heated when one notion popped into my mind.
"Even I'm confused as to how and why we were the most affected ones though" Elena agreed before diving into her deep thoughts.
"Hey guys" Gia greeted and sat beside Elena.
"Hi! Long-time no see" I chuckled
"Don't even ask mate" Gia sighed and rested her head on the table.
"I should've known. Going on the vacations was a really bad idea. Now all this weight of left out work is a smack on my head" She complained while looking up again.
"You only went for 3 days, Not much work was done during this time period" Nick amused
"Yeah and due to the virus, cancel out another one day" Elena stated with an 'I'm really smart' expression on her face
"Yeah! So quit being a drama-queen dude" I snickered while she rolled her eyes.
"Yea yeah, whatever" She shrugged us off. But then her face lit like she just remembered something.
"Oh yeah oops, I completely forgot. Catherine... Mr. West called you in his office. I think someone came to visit you" She informed me with a guilty and cheeky smile.
I softly glared at her before shaking my head in disapproval and then managed to get off my chair.
Why would somebody come to visit me?
I guess my friends noticed my discomfort because they immediately gave me thumbs up and motivative smiles. I smiled back and exited the cafeteria.
Ok...I didn't prank anybody..this week at least. I didn't bunk any classes. Heck, I got As in all my tests. So I don't think it's mum. But then who could it be...?
While all these thoughts were taking over my mind I entered the principal's office, involuntarily. And didn't notice this until someone pinched me on my arm.
I winced and jerked my hand back turning to scowl at the person but turns out it was Aaron.
What was he doing in the principal's office? Oh yeah he broke one of the school's trophies in the hallway this week, while playing football.
"You can go now Mr. Gray" Mr. West practically shooed Aaron out of the office.
Aaron gave me a worried look but left the office anyway.
"As for you Catherine, someone wants to meet you" Mr. West smiled and pointed at a lady seated in one of the comfortable chairs.
My face drained of color and my mouth slightly opened when I saw who the lady was.
She was the same doctor from whose mouth I managed to force out some top secret medical terms.
"And as I was told, It's personal, so I'll leave you two alone" Mr. West smiled once again before leaving the office.
"Umm ok..?" I managed to speak in an attempt to break the awkward silence. Whilst sitting on the seat in front of the doctor.
"Nice to meet you again" She fake smiled, fabricated enthusiasm dripping from her voice.
"Ok?" I raised my eyebrows questioningly.
She sighed loudly before taking a big gulp from the orange juice which was placed beside her on the principal's table.
"So. You might be thinking why I came here to talk to you, all of a sudden"
"Yes obviously" I shrugged
"And I can also bet you were likewise thinking about why your friends were the ones, least immune to the virus" She smirked questioningly
This sentence was enough to intrigue me and to raise my curiosity.
I quickly nodded my head and motioned her to continue in an impatient manner.
"Ok ok. No need to be so feverish now do we.'Curiosity kills the cat' " She sniggered once again, enjoying the sight my restlessness, while I glared at her.
However, after not too long, her smug flash fell off her face and she clawed at her neck while coughing, violently.
At first I ignored the condition, thinking she just choked on her saliva or something. But when she fell to the floor while coughing uncontrollably. I decided to take things in my hands and ran to the door in order to call for help.
But much to my surprise it was locked.
I looked back at the pale almost blue skinned doctor and started banging at the door in hope of catching someone's attention. And thankfully Aaron noticed.
I screamed through the door, ordering Aaron to open the door but apparently someone locked it through a key. Seeing there was no other way, Aaron ran out of my sight in order to find help.
I panted due to the amount of times I hit the door. And glanced back at the doctor on the floor.
It seemed like she was calling for me so I quickly ran and sat beside her.
"N..ne..ne" She slurred again and again and attempted to speak but failed miserably.
"Nnnnee-" And that's when she stopped moving and her hand fell off her neck to her sides.
I stared at her with wide eyes and slacked face.
She died
I witnessed a death
The shock caused me to freeze in my place up to a point where anyone can hardly see me breathing.
All of a sudden the door was broken off its hinges and two hands tightly gripped both my shoulders.
"Cath Cath! Are you Okay" Aaron asked me with an anxious face . While shaking my shoulders.
I could now hear the sirens in the background.
"How did all this happen?" Aaron asked calmly after seeing that my shock was beginning to melt away, and everything was returning slowly.
"'The Cat ended up killing the curiosity '"
