Chapter Eighteen: Panacea

What do you expect from a girl whose mother has recently been held hostage in front of her eyes, while a physics lecturer at her college, who for the record resembles at an unbelievable extent to her dead father, is roaming around her house whilst she's being interrogated by a bunch of intimidating looking, navy-blue wearing people? Well, I honestly don't have the answer to this question, as I'm not being given a mere second to peacefully think over the situation, let alone devise a possible solution.

Thankfully someone from among the people I was surrounded by noticed my discomfort, resulting in my house now occupying only two other people except me. Though, this serenity wasn't expected to last long as I was told to come to the police station within no more than two days.

"You'll be good. Don't worry", Max passed me a comforting smile while fiddling with a cushion on the dining chair he was seated on.

Mr. Nielson, after showing the cops their way out, settled on a sofa while looking at Max and nodding his head in agreement. "It's dangerous for you to be left alone though", He stated out loud.

"I won't be alone. My cousin Nick lives here with us."

"But still-"

"I'll ask my other friends to stay too if that makes the situation any safer?"

Max leaned in, "I can accompany too if that helps"

"It'll still not be safe",  The teacher let out a sigh while rubbing his temples, "What will you all be able to do in case those people decide to attack again? It'll just put more people in danger."

"Well, what other solution do you have then?", I asked, clearly clueless about where he was going with all this.

"Until you're provided with proper protection through the police services, you can stay at my house", he clasped his hands together.

"It'll be the safest for you there."
