Queen Raeanne
I lift the skirt of my dress as I make my way down the dirty steps of the dungeon. If this place wasn't for prisoners and the worst of the worst, I would really consider fixing this place up.
But I have more important things to worry about than the living quarters of people who have done wrong.
"Raeanne!" A woman calls out for me.
"Her royal highness, the queen." Calum corrects her as she scrambles for her feet, clinging to the bars that separate us.
"I do not come here to listen to your please. I come here to tell you how dearly you screwed up." I begin. "Michael tells me you thought you were doing a service to our family?" I ask.
"Yes I did. I still do. I put that poor baby out of her misery. I saved you months of recovery." She tries to explain herself.
I do not want to hear it.
I shake my head. "All you managed to do was take an innocent child's life." I pause. "Actually, that's not true. You also almost ended my family's lives too."
"What?" She asks. I am not sure if she is playing dumb or if she really does not grasp how terrible of a mistake she has made. She almost cost this kingdom a Queen and herself a son.
"Did Michael tell you I tried to kill myself?" I ask bluntly.
"He mentioned your lack of a will to live." She replies with a nod.
"And did he tell you he tried to take his life as well?" I wonder. Her answer will tell me if she is faking what she knows or not.
Her eyes widen and her defensive posture drops. "Why would he do such a thing?"
"I asked myself the same thing. I thought maybe he was finally on the same page as me. He has been my rock through all of this pain. I wondered what it could have possibly been that broke him to the point of truly wanting to die. It wasn't losing his child. It wasn't the thought of losing me. It was the fact that you did this to us. It was the thought that his own mother could be so terribly cruel." I allow her some insight into just what the last few days have entailed.
"I saved you." She shakes her head. "I helped you guys."
"No." I laugh. "No you did quite the opposite. Had Michael been one minute later, Henry and Victoria would no doubt be orphans. My brother James would take my place as acting Regent for the next fifteen years until Henry could be crowned as king. That man, your son, has been broken. Broken by you."
I stare at her. She drops to her knees. "Stand up." I instruct her. She cries, pulling herself to her feet. "I let your actions affect my children and for that, I am to blame. Never again will anything come between me and my children. Not even you."
"She was in pain." She says.
I can not believe she is still holding on to this idea that she is some sort of savior who did a God's job. Who does she think she is?
"Michael is in pain. Do you wish to rip up his shirt and shove it down his throat to end his suffering as well?" I ask her. "Is that how you will solve all of your problems?"
She stares at me, apparently speechless. She has no answer to my burning question.
"Michael wants me to cut your head off." I tell her. "He wants me to order your execution. Technically as King, he can do it himself but I truly do not think he has it in him to kill his own mother. He still loves you." I shake my head. "I do not understand why. You abused him for many years and though you may not be physical with him now, your abuse has evolved into new ways to torture him without ever laying a hand on him."
"Please! Please I don't want to die!" She begs.
"I told him I would think about it. But after this talk, I have decided I am not going to fulfill his request." I inform her of my decision. "It was not an easy decision for me to make."
"Oh, oh god. Thank you. Thank you Raeanne-"
"I am not going to order your execution. Not because I don't want you to die. I would very much love to see your head roll around on the ground. That would bring me much joy after what you did to my family. I choose to not have you executed because I want you to live a very long life. I want you to spend every day thinking about what you did to Michael. You broke him. Not only did you murder an innocent child, you shattered your son's outlook on life. That man has been by my side for years, constantly willing to risk it all just to keep me safe and happy. You broke the man I fell in love with."

Do you think it was fair of Rae to come visit Michael's mother without him knowing? And do you think she should have told her all of those personal things? Was it wrong or does Rae have a little soft spot for her Mother-In-Law?
