(62) Avenge
Michael
I have no concept of how long I have been tied up and left alone in this room. My grasp on time is virtually nonexistent as I have no clocks to stare at for hours. All I know is that the sun has come up and other day has started in Estonia.
Though they take turns beating me senseless, hoping for more information from me, I do not speak. They still do not have a location on the Queen or her son.
They only know she is not in the castle.
I would guess that their constant questioning of me means she is safe.
Though, it would be foolish of me to assume they are safe just because they have made it past castle walls.
Caroline enters the room. Her face is not one I have seen in a while. "I've just spoken with a man named Ramon." She says, reading a letter. My eyes light up with terror. He is the one who was supposed to secure my son's safety. He is the last person to see my son. "He brings with him word that the Queen is dead."
I do not believe it. How could she be speaking the truth? How can I believe anything she tells me? She is a liar and a traitor. "What?!"
"He tells me she died from blood loss after a fatal stabbing."
"That is not possible." I shake my head. How could she have been stabbed if she already made her way out of the castle?
"But it is possible, Michael. I would know this because I stabbed her myself to ensure her death. I just didn't think it would take this long."
"How could you? She was your friend!" I shout.
She laughs at me, at my pain. "No, Michael. She was my owner! I was her slave! We all were! She was cruel and shared no mercy for any of us. She had her own mother put to death. She doesn't care about a single one of our souls."
"So what now? You plan to take her place as queen and turn all of us back into slaves? What purpose does that serve?" I beg her to explain to me how that fixes anything.
"No, Michael. I plan to dismantle the monarchy entirely: to let Estonia rule itself." She continues reading over the letter in her hands, smiling to herself as she examines it.
"You won't succeed in your mission. It will never work." I shake my head.
She shrugs. "It already has." She throws the letter down in front of me. "I pity you for your loss. Here is a little something to remember her by. Her death notice."
"I can't read it." I hang my head.
"Illiterate are you?"
"No. My hands are tied. I can't open the letter. If you really pitied me, you would at least help me to read it." Caroline walls over and begins untying my hands. "Thank you." I reach for the letter. Just as she looks away, I grab her throat, slamming her to the ground as I dig my fingernails into her skin.
She struggles beneath my weight as I slowly drain the lift from her with my fingers.
Her skin turns a deep purple color and her heart gently stops beating.
Now I can begin my work to avenge Rae and rescue my son.
