(5) Coronation
Princess Raeanne
Alarms and bells ring all around the kingdom signaling a time to celebrate.
Today is the day.
The entire village is gathering around the castle right now to watch me be crowned the sovereign queen of this great nation.
I am just buzzing with excitement - not. I am anything but excited for today.
Everyone is going to be there, watching me, picking apart my every move, analyzing how everyone around me acts and what they say.
This is the last thing I want to happen today-or ever for that matter.
My mother places my tiara on my head. I do not even know why she bothers. It is just going to be removed within the hour anyways.
"You, my dear, are the most beautiful princess in the land. You will be a wonderful queen." She sighs and fixes my hair to make it perfect.
"Are you sure you can not just be queen for me mother? I do not want this one bit." I admit, although she already knows this. I only tell her I do not want to be queen every, what? Two minutes? "What if I am not ready?" I ask, wanting advice.
Sure, she will be by my side helping me make all of the big political decisions for my country but, that does not mean this job is going to be any less stressful.
"My dear child, take my hand." My mother guides me out of the room and stands me in front of a grand mirror placed strategically at the intersection of two hallways.
"You are as ready as you will ever be, my princess. And I will be there for you ever step of the way. Your father would be so proud. Your brother will need his big sister to show him how to properly rule a country. You are his role model you know. He looks up to you."She plays with my hair, placing it over my shoulder. "Now come, it is time to get the crown you deserve."
Not once has anyone wished me a happy birthday. I turn eighteen today. But I suppose taking over an entire country is a bit of a bigger deal.
I am sure Michael would have wished me a happy birthday. I wish I ran away with him. We could have lived together in the forest forever. Not a care in the world.
But we did not. I lost my chance at a normal life with him. I am going to be queen and I need to deal with that as it is right in front of me.
Literally.
I am standing in front of two giant doors, the other side a group of nobles stand waiting to watch the power be passed on from mother to daughter.
The alarms and bells silence as I walk out on to the slightly raised platform.
The stairs leading down to the rest of the kingdom is filled with people of the villages. The entire country is here.
I wish I could have just one more day in the village to live like a normal, common girl. I would really like to spend just one more minute with Michael by my side. He made me feel the way no other man has ever made me feel before.
Safe.
The crowd silences itself as a noble raises his hand.
"PRINCESS RAEANNE VICTORIA ELIZABETH BRONSON BEFORE YOU!" He shouts. I really do prefer Rae. It fits me better. And why does everyone insist on using both of my middle names? It just takes forever.
Everyone below me bows, showing respect to me as their future queen.
"TODAY WE ARE HERE TO..." He continues. I stare blankly in to the crowd, drowning him out as he speaks.
I think I just might throw up. This is so nerve wracking. I do not want to be here at all. If I could run away and hide in the trees instead of becoming queen, I would love my new tree home more than anything else on this entire earth.
The voices around me silence, breaking me out of my thoughts. I turn to see my mother's crown being brought out.
My mother's eyes are filled with tears as it passes by her. She is no longer going to be considered queen of this country. She is still powerful, but her own daughter has the ability to overthrow her.
I could even throw her in the dungeon if I so pleased. I would never do that, of course, but that is besides the point.
I bow and the crown is placed on top of my head.
My mother wipes her tears and grabs both of my hands.
"BOW DOWN TO YOUR QUEEN! BEFORE YOU STANDS QUEEN RAEANNE VICTORIA ELIZABETH BRONSON! BOW!" He continues to shout.
I stare blankly as the entire crowd bows their heads in respect to me, their new queen.
Shouting erupts within the crowd. I look over at a group of people refusing to bow down to me.
They raise their hands and reveal weapons as they run towards me.
My personal guards grab my arms and shield me as they try to get me inside unharmed.
Mother said there would be troubles once I got my crown. She never said they would come seconds after I became queen.
