(29) Agreements
Queen Raeanne
I walk past the temporary chambers of the English Diplomat visiting my country. I really should go inside and apologize to him for the events that have occurred while he was here at court. He deserves at least that much for what I have put him through since he arrived.
I knock softly on his door. "Enter." He speaks from the other side of the door.
"Leaving so soon?" I ask, intertwining my fingers within each other. He is packing his things up in to their neat little packages. He only just got here.
"I have learned that court here is but a catastrophe." He laughs softly. "That is quite the understatement unfortunately."
I nod. "It has been chaos. I will be the first to admit. I swear, it is not normally like this. Everyone around here has been stressed. It is showing in the way this place is being ran."
"Have you come to throw yet another treaty in the fire?" He asks, holding a single piece of paper up.
I shake my head softly. "I have come to apologize for my actions. I have not been myself lately. The death of- of my brother," I pause, trying to calm my head. I can not risk losing my mind in front of him again. "It shook me up. I assumed England was behind it, and I sincerely apologize for thinking that in the first place. It was not appropriate of me. I apologize for my actions and hope England and Estonia can together, put this behind us."
He nods and plasters a smirk on his face. "England accepts your apology and gives its deepest condolences. Shall you sign the treaty before I go home and report to England?"
"England and Estonia will be allies from this moment forward." I read the paper quickly and grab a pen to sign it at the bottom in big letters, as if to convince myself that this is the right thing to do. For some reason, my heart is not entirely in this alliance.
"God bless you and your new husband." He bows and shoves the treaty in to his bag. I feel as if he should have treated that with more care. Such an important document should not be wrinkled upon its return to England. Something does not seem right here.
I smile softly and turn to leave. "Safe journey home." I close the door shut behind me and see Phillip walking down the hall.
I rush to a guard. "Have the English Diplomat followed. I want you to report all of his actions to me. Go." I order him and run down the hall to catch Phillip.
"Where were you? No one was able to locate you." I ask, walking beside him.
"I spoke with the servant boy. The one who did this to you." He says, staring forward.
I pull on his arm to stop him. "You did not do anything rash, did you?" I ask.
"Of course not. I am a man of dignity. Though, I will admit it appeared someone had given him a taste of his own medicine before I even arrived. He was bruised and badly beaten when I arrived to speak with him." He admits. I appreciate his honesty.
"My dear Michael. I must go to him. He must be badly injured since he did not show up for his post in the kitchen this morning." The king grabs my arm.
"No! You are my bride. Not his! I forbid you from seeing him ever again."
"Phillip-" I argue.
"That is an order Raeanne." He places his foot firmly on the ground.
"But-"
"But nothing. You two are done. There will be nothing more between you. You still do not see what this will do to you? I am protecting you! Your people would overthrow you just for having feelings for him, much less carrying his baby. Do you want your head chopped off? No, I didn't think so."
I nod. He is right. "I have no feelings for him Phillip. It was simply a mistake. It will never happen again. I do not care for him at all."
"Good. Keep it that way." Phillip lifts my chin and kisses my forehead. He pulls me in to his chest and holds me tight, though I can tell all his passion is gone.
A silent tear rolls down my cheek knowing now more than ever that I need to let Michael go.
