(28) Kitchen
Queen Raeanne
I follow my mother down the hall, being extra sure that I am quiet so I go undetected. As far as I am aware, she does not know that I am following her.
She turns and exits through the doors that lead out to the garden. Quickly, and without thinking much about what I am doing, I turn the lock shut on the door and rush towards the kitchen. I am going to be in big trouble for locking my mother outside. But it is a price I will have to pay in order to do this in private. No one else must know what I am up to.
Michael. I must find him. "Michael." I whisper to myself as I search the kitchen and the areas immediately surrounding it. Where could he be? I need to speak with him. He needs to know what is happening. He needs to be warned. "Calum." I motion for him to come over to me. He is the head of the kitchen. He should know what is going on around here. He should have a pretty good grasp about where each of his workers are.
"My queen. What a pleasant surprise." He bows. "My apologies, I did not see you standing there."
"Where is everyone?" I ask, noticing the lack of servants rushing around. He seems to be the only one here.
"Most are not set to return here for a few hours. I have a few coming in less than ten minutes. I came in early today to get started." He replies.
I nod. I will have to speak to Michael later then. "Prepare me your finest soup."
"As you wish." He bows again. He lifts his head and smiles.
"Come here you." I pull him in for a warm and tender embrace. "It has been too long. I have missed your company." I brush a piece of hair out of his face.
"As have I, my Queen." He steps back to bow again, I stop him.
"Please. There is no one else around. It is Rae." I miss seeing him everyday. He has been so busy down here and I have been unbelievably stressed up there that I hardly get to enjoy his company anymore. When I was a girl, he and I used to run around here and play in the kitchen. "Have the soup brought up to my chambers. I will alert the guards that you are to be allowed inside."
Calum nods. "As soon as I can."
"Thank you, my friend." I smile and turn to leave. I will have to make plans to see Michael some other time.
I pass the door to the gardens, turning back once I see my mother slamming her fist on the door. Why has no one let her inside?
I walk over, momentarily forgetting that I am the one who locked her out there.
"Where are the guards?" She shouts upon me opening the door and letting her inside. "They left me out there!"
"Why was the door locked?" I ask, playing dumb and acting as if I do not know who would lock the door. Me, of course. I did.
"Someone locked the bloody door to keep me out of the castle!" She shouts, frustrated the guards were not around to let her back inside.
"Who would do such a thing?" I look around. It is a bit odd that no guards were around. My mother does have a point.
"It is no matter now my child. We must get you in to bed so you can rest. I must find the king." My mother begins guiding me back towards my chambers.
"He was not outside? Where else would he be?" I ask out loud, though I should have said it inside my head.
