(14) Phillip

Queen Raeanne

"You have a very mild concussion my Queen. Be very weary of your immediate surroundings and keep your head safe from any bumping or rapid movement. Sunlight might hurt your eyes terribly for a few days. Make sure to get enough sleep. You will heal quicker with more sleep and less stress in your daily life." The physician drones on and on about the injury I have sustained from falling after the attack.

Less stress my ass. I am queen of an entire country, how on earth am I supposed to reduce stress in my life?

"You did not have to stay with me this whole time." I smile as I look over and see that the King of Spain has stayed by my side the entire time the physician was treating me and then when he was talking to me about how to take care of my injuries. "I would have been perfectly capable of getting myself in here and speaking with him."

"You are my wife now. I need to make sure you are safe before I can ever leave your side. That is what husbands are to do for their wives." He reaches for my hand, placing his warm fingers on top of my open palm.

I smile softly at his statement. "That is rather sweet of you."

I sit up off the viewing table and close my eyes as the room spins around me slowly. The King reaches for me, grabbing my arms to help me steady myself as I plant my feet on the ground and stand myself up. "Do you think you feel steady enough to walk on your own?" He asks me.

I nod but grab his arm anyway, not being completely positive I will be able to walk all the way back to my chambers. I am feeling a little bit dizzy after all. Also, after being wed, we will need to be in the eyes of the public as a strong couple or we will be attacked again if they feel we are weak in our union.

"Some wedding day, don't you agree?" I laugh as we walk down the shaded corridors. It is not every day that a band of assassins attacks a royal wedding and kidnaps The Queen without anyone noticing for a good five minutes.

"I would say. Quite a turn of events." He laughs softly. The King stops walking suddenly.

"Is something the matter?" I ask, wondering why it is he has stopped so abruptly.

"I just had a thought. I ought to share it with you before I forget. I know that you are young and I am, well, ancient compared to you." He jokes. "And I also know that this union is not something you wanted or were necessarily ready for and that is was entirely forced upon you. Marriage is a new thing for you, no?"

I nod as he continues walking, at a slower rate than before.

"This union is not my first, I will admit as much as that. However, in light of this information about you, I am willing to wait for as long as it may take you to be comfortable with me or anything else about our relationship. And before it is questioned, I am under the impression that you are worried about me ruling your country and taking all of your power away with this union. Am I correct with this?"

I nod. I know that once a woman marries, any freedom she might have had previous to her union with a man will be taken from her. That is how tradition has had it for hundreds of thousands of years before I even existed.

"You have your country to rule and I have mine. I am not married to you so I can stomp all over Estonia. Unless you wish me to be involved in political decisions, I will have no hand in assuming all duties here. We rule together." He nods his head slowly, as if convincing himself that is what he wanted to say. "With that being said. I believe you have final say here and I have final say in regards to Spain."

"How very kind of you-" I pause. "I have just now noticed, I do not even know your first name."

"Phillip." He bows in front of me. "King Phillip Bartholomew Overton III of Spain."

"Well then, King Phillip Bartholomew Overton, I thank you for being so patient and understanding with me. I do appreciate it more than you will know. I also feel the need to note that you share one of your names with my dear brother, Henry."

"Anything for my beautiful bride." He bows before me, showing respect. He stands and reaches for my arm to continue leading me back to my chambers. "I am honored."
