Princess Victoria

I wake up when a bump in the road slams my head into the side of the carriage. "Victoria, Victoria?" Serena cradles my head in her lap.

I reach my hand up and touch her face. "Have they hurt you?" My words feel jumbled. My head spins.

She shakes her head and cries. "I have a plan." I nod and swallow. My throat is so dry. "I got the ties off of our wrists and legs. When they stop the carriage, right before they get off the horses, we run. We run as fast and as far as we can, okay?"

I nod my head. "Don't stop for me, okay? Just run." I smile, trying to keep her face in focus as I look up at her.

She shakes her head. "We are in this together."

I close my eyes and laugh. "It'll be easier if you just run, okay?"

The carriage stops before she is able to respond. I sit myself up and hold on to the edge of the seat. She opens the carriage door and jumps out, reaching for me.

"Go." I instruct her. "I will be close behind."

"Hey!" One of them shouts. They chase after her. I step out of the carriage, my head spinning. Whatever was in that bottle was very strong. I drop to the dirt path.

I look up as one of them hovers above me. "That was very stupid." He lifts me to my feet and decides to walk me to whatever this unknown location is.

My head spins. It is too dark to make out the details around me. All I see are trees. I think.

I quickly decide to focus on my feet and my plan to run rather than the knowledge that my death is not far away from this moment.

My bare feet hit the dirt road. When did I lose my heels? Did Serena take them off so it would be easier to run? I shouldn't have drank that bottle.

In the distance I hear screams. They caught her. I just hope they don't kill her.

My heart is racing.

I am going to die.
