049|| Goodbye Yellow Brick Road

Sleep had been the thing that Brystal would've waited on, due to all the nightmares she seemed to have. But this time, sleep gave her a slight break. Her body for once felt slightly relaxed, and having the will to allow her such comfort.

The nightmarish images that would once flicker in her dreams had faded. She hadn't even woken up in a sweat. It all felt so calming that for once she could relax.

Slowly, opening her eyes, adjusting to the light from the darkness of sleep. Her face had been buried into the soft pillows. She slightly craned her neck upward, still trying to get bits of sleep out of her eyes.

Brystal's hand crawled over, only to feel an empty side of a bed, signaling that Jim was awake before her. Groggily, she moved tangled strands of hair out of her face. Blinking a few times before crawling off the bed.

Her ears were filled with the sounds of the Tv going on. She could barely even make out a few words that were being said, but something about them sounded familiar. In a rush, she rummaged through Jim's closet, fitting a leather jacket over her body.

A slight chill ran over her body, realizing she would've been cold either way. Though she relaxed, exiting the bedroom. To then look from the corner of her eye to see what was going on, a slight whiff of sweetness entered her nose.

Jim was seated on the couch, though his hair was a bit messed up. Two plates with strawberries and oranges along with what looked like sourdough bread toast. Only making her think she slept just a little bit more in than she usually did.

That's when she realized what he was watching by the simple words of a woman saying, "You mocked me once! Never do it again! I died that day!"

A smile creased across her face. A few memories began playing through her mind, all naturally very good ones. Though she couldn't help, but feel a slight aiming at teasing.

"This......again?" Brystal smiled, slightly teasing. Seeing the familiar scene of where Buttercup realizes that the Dreaded Pirate Robert's was indeed Wesley. One of the films that she could quite dozens scenes by heart.

Though she was slightly glad that she and Jim both had a a deep love for the old film. Having seen it a bunch of times when she was younger with her mother. It brought back simple, but sweet memories.

"Come on," Jim smiled, "It's a classic, and I know you love it."

"I know. I know," Brystal chuckled, taking a seat next to just to cuddle up close to him, "Brings back a lot of good memories."

"Let me guess the ones where your parents went up to Montana for a few weeks in the winter?" Jim asked, planting a gentle kiss to her forehead.

"Correct," Brystal smiled, "Some of my best memories were up in Montana. But still was a chance to see why my dad liked horses so much."

"His obsession, you mean?" Jim chuckled.

"Pretty much," Brystal agreed, "Never knew the reason why."

Her eyes darted to the screen for a moment to see Buttercup tumbling, painfully down the hill after Wesley. She slightly grimaced, wondering why did it have to look that painful. Wesley looked like he was doing it with ease, but Buttercup's were so painful looking.

Though she could easily remember each scene by heart. Just remindedher how much her mother would quite each scene, incredibly annoying Kit.

"I also noticed that you cleared not only Silas charges, but Amaya's as well," Jim spoke up.

"Yes.........Silas expressed to me only once about his desire for a world with peace, but it seems that from files he lived in a small cabin in the woods and absolutely loved his life style......Amaya's is a bit more complicated."

"I'm guessing you two made up at some point?" Jim asked.

"Yes.....we did. And I realized that everyone and not only one person sometimes has to understand other things occurred in one day......so I decided while I was doing it.....I'd at least give her a second chance."

"You know, she's probably going to do something very dangerous and scandalous in the next few days," Jim slightly smiled.

"She probably will," Brystal chuckled, "But that's just Amaya. She did all that back in the academy. She's always so scandalous."

"She clearly is one to show that as well," Jim added, reaching to pick up an apple slice from the plate of food.

"That's her talent annoying the hell out of everybody," Brystal stalled a bit before explaining, "It felt good actually to make things up with her........though I was hesitant......it actually felt right."

"Forgiveness can be hard," Jim told her, "But I think what you did was right."

"I know it was, but........there was such a big gap of years that I hand seen her......I was just conflicted with what I felt," Brystal told him.

"Hey," Jim gently brushed his Han against hers before lacing hers in his, "You're a good person,  and that was your decision. I know I might not fully understand what happened between you two, but believe me when you think something is the right decision, I'll always try to believe in you."

"I just need to make sure your okay with my decisions because I know it's hard to agree-"

"I trust you deeply, Bry. And I know I could prove that."

"I'm sorry, what?" Brystal cocked an eyebrow, clearly confused by what he was getting at.

"I know we both said we were going to talk things slowly, but I was wondering.....if you'd like to move in with me?"

"Wait, you're serious?" Brystal sat up, feeling shocked.

"I mean if your not ready or-" Jim added.

"No, I'd actually like that." Brystal assured him with a smile.

Amaya looked at the escape pods entrance, a bag slung over her right shoulder. Her mind was all over the place, but one thing that she thought about was getting out of danger. Not only herself, but Silas as well.

During last night, the two seemed to have found a few things they both wanted. They wanted to live where there wasn't much war, instead just peace and quiet somewhere. Though she was interested in finding a planet that still had Drive-In Theaters, he had made them sound so special.

Though she knew all too well she'd probably leave not to long after that. She usually found herself always leaving due to her boredom. She always felt like she should leave before karma struck her down.

That's the way she'd been living her life as a scavenger for so long. Just enough so she could have food somewhere and earn credits. Her fear of going back home always stooped her from returning to anybody she loved.

"So......do you have a planet in mind?" Silas asked from behind her.

"Yeah, it's a nice little place called Yuncin. It still has some 80's like tech. We could land one of these pods away and hide them."

"What? Then like pop some beers and watch silly movies with happy endings?"

"Are there any happy endings?" Amaya smiled.

Though her voice tasted bitter and filled with sorrow, there was a joke hinted in there. Silas lightly smiled, but it drooped back down to an emotionless look. He was only blinded by the thoughts of being back on a planet like that.

To live back in the time where there were still Walkman's and the strangely colored clothes. To maybe even see old films he'd watched back on Earth. But he knew not to get his hopes up too high, but he couldn't help himself.

"You both were going to leave without saying goodbye?" Brystal's voice asked from behind them.

Silas turned around first while Amaya opened up a pod and stuffed her baggage in there, "Didn't want to bother you any longer. We have no way to repay you or thank you for clearing our charges."

"You could repay me with just not walking out on me, ya know?" Brystal smiled, playfully crossing her arms over her chest.

"Well, goodbye," Silas told her, he patted her shoulder, "I hope we meet again someday."

"I think we will," Brystal assured him before looking over at Amaya.

Noticing that she'd earned a different pair of clothes from someone. She wore a weirdly shaped black shirt with a circle of fabric along her neck, showing a bit of her collarbone. Then her pants were a leather like shade of black.

Silas caught the two making eye contact and backed away. He had heard a few times about Amaya describing her past, so he decided he'd give them the last few moments together. So he instead started putting his luggage into his escape pod.

"Leaving again?" Brystal asked.

"What miss me already?" Amaya smiled.

"Not yet. But you were never really one to stay."

Amaya felt the slight discomfort and pain emitting off of Brystal. She bit the inside of her lip before stepping closer, she took in every feature of her friend. Or at least that's what she hoped Brystal was now to her once again.

"Well, I never was. Your right. Always gotta be in the run and up before the sun rises."

"Like your mother always was in the morning?"

"Oh, don't remind me! That woman was the definition of an early bird!" Amaya laughed.

Brystal chuckled, "She always was."

"But it was a joy to see you beat up Anya's ass last second. That's the charm of you being a Hybrid.

"I hope things go well between you and Mr. Perfect Hair as well while I'm gone," Amaya added, "Seriously though, I haven't seen you that happy in a while. You deserve it."

"Why can't you ever stay? It's be nice to have you there. We all agreed you'd make the best tactical officer. You deserve more than what I have."

"You deserve more than what people give you," Amaya clasped Brystal's hands in hers, "You deserve love more than anyone."

"That doesn't mean you don't," Brystal added.

Amaya sighed, heavily, "I've fucked up a lot things. Things I can't mend or repair. Like those deaths I caused that day. All I do is hurt people, and I don't want you to get hurt anymore. When you see my Dad or mom again......tell them I'm sorry. I'm sorry I left and I didn't come back......I'm sorry for destroying something so perfect. I'm doing you and your ship a favor by leaving."

"That doesn't mean I don't need you," Brystal grabbed Amaya's shoulder, "You're just going to leave. It's okay to be afraid of hiding from the people who still care, but that doesn't mean you have to keep doing it."

Amaya hesitated before saying, "I just make things worse from wherever I go. There's nowhere in this entire universe where i belong before something blows up. You don't need me right now........but i can promise we will see each other again......someday.......not tomorrow.....but maybe later."

Amaya wanted so badly to walk away. She hated now that she was leaving and this left guilt brimming in her body. Like knife against her throat, she choked back the awful feelings of regret.

Every star fall might as well bring her to tears from all of the pain and hurt she caused. Feeling just like a plague that cursed everyone she loved. Things would've been better if she tried  to stay and make things up.

Holding onto every little doubt she had of the world, rushing it. Striking a match to incinerate something that caused her too much. Just to run away before even saying words across the lines of sorry.

But she didn't.

And now she was afraid to admit her mistakes.

She wished she hadn't even had her reasons for leaving every time. The galaxies and planets she'd been on that would normally break out into chaos. But this time she had just made up the worst excuse.

But to her surprise once again, Brystal pulled Amaya into another hug. Amaya was a bit too stunned to at least use one arm to hug her back. Though, Brystal was giving her a final goodbye, at least for now she told herself.

"You'll always be my sister, Mya."

That could've instantly sent Amaya into tears, but she pulled through. She finally hugged Brystal back before pulling apart. She looked over at Silas who was waiting for her.

She felt her heart ache, knowing it was time to go. But that inch of longing inside her made her want to make this moment last just a little bit longer. Just these last few moments were hers and Brystal's.

"And you will always be mine as well, Bry."

A/N: I really hope you enjoyed act three!! I've been a bit slow with this one because i'm really excited t writing act four. So many plot twists and character development. But thanks for sticking around.

Basically watched a lot of traumatic scenes from shows I loved to get into Amaya and Brustal's dynamic. But to be honest a bit too much of Catra and Adora tension, Nebula and Gamora tension, and also Blitzø and Fizzarolli tension. But really helped with writing their dialogue and how they would evolve. I'm gonna go cry about their relationship before I write the next act.

Live long and Prosper🖖🏻
