042|| One Way Or Another

Brystal broke into a run as the ships began shooting down at the townspeople. Her instincts were running high, but she barely knew this place as well as the Crosshairs. With all of the strange shaped buildings and new sights to see.

Chaos was no making its mark across the planet like spaceport. Something once so beautiful and magnificent to her had become a war zone. Just like how life could take an unexpected turn like her life always seemed to.

Her eyes immediately darted towards the balconies were leading towards the docking bay. She could hear Frida and the others calling after her, but that was the least bit on her mind. This could be her last chance at escape from everything.

She could fly a pod, Alejandro had already taught her how to manage to drive a few. She could get a signal back out to the Enterprise and plot coordinates. Finally be home for once.......maybe then she could erase the bounty Marcus had put up on her.

She could only dream of what might happen when she got back. Before she could be stopped, she darted off up the series of stairs. Fueled by a sense of hope sparking across her body.

"Shit!" Jason and Silas halted at the stairs.

"Language!" Frida warned them.

"We have no time for this!" Silas shot back, "Sooner or later Anya's going to figure out Brystal's on a pod!"

"Oh, so we state the obvious first?!?" Jason retorted, "We need to distract Anya from the right pod. We caught her first. We get her to Arik and the missions over."

"Well, she"s not gonna make this easy!" Jason yelled.

All their eyes darting at the sound of gunfire heading closer breaking through the silence of the sky. Watching as people fled into shelters and children screaming for their parents. Everything fun and loving had turned to complete terror with a snap of a finger.

Silas was seething with hatred towards Anya, crawling into his ribcage. It wasn't hard for him to hate a woman so focused on killing one person when she hurts others in the process. She was practically the same terrorist Arik was.

The group watched as white vibrant stripes of light floated beside them before the slight image of guards began to appear. Pitch black armored with large masks becoming ever so visible. The group made eye contact with one another as if agreeing on a plan.

"You two go find her!" Frida shouted as she unveiled a pair of daggers hidden underneath her dress, "I'll keep them distracted."

Jason and Silas began running up the stairs just when the bad guys were fully on the spaceport ground. Frida readied herself, knowing her basic skills. The soldiers registered her presence, pulling out their large guns.

"Move! Please! Sorry!" Brystal ushered people out of here way as she dodged cargo and all sorts of objects. Her mind was racing with endless possibilities all ending on one thing, freedom.

Her eyes caught onto a container of guns with a lavender fabric draped on the corner of one of the sides.  Hidden in a small little workshop with its doors swung open. Looking just like one of Otto's many workshop offices.

She slid into the shadows of the room, grabbing hold of the handle of one of the guns. She could hear the thundering steps of people getting closer. Most likely, the draped in black soldiers from Anya's ship.

She'd almost forgotten about the insane woman obsessed with killing her. Her signals out to the Enterprise could've been tracked easily if she hadn't done them all so quickly or could've coded them better. But she hasn't had much time with what Otto had given her.

The speakers began to thump out a well known beat that Brystal heard her mother play:

"One way

Or another

I'm gonna find you

I'm gonna get ya,

Get ya."

Opening the small container of energy blasts, jamming in a few batteries. She quickly stepped out of the workshop, rising the gun up only to see Jason and Silas.

"You two again?!?" Brystal exclaimed as she lowered the gun before rushing off towards where the pods were.

"Slow down!" Jason screamed at her with a slight beg.

But Brystal didn't even to seem to register the man's slight beg. She was pushing past dozens of aliens and recreations as she turned a corner sharply into a docking bay. Her legs finally being able to let out all the energy they hadn't used from sitting and being watched over like a hawk.

Her eyes met the sight of dozens of silver pods lined up on rows, pointing outward to the father reaches of space. She memorized the sight only for a few seconds before dashing down a stairwell. This place would definitely have a place in her memories.

The odd looked like an older type of an F Class pod that had been flown in the 22nd century. During a time, where communicators weren't fully functioning. She'd seen a type walking into the Sanchez home.

Alejandro was a man of piloting and had been decorated in many medals for his deeds. In his little workshop area he kept a small model of an F Class Pod. If only she could thank Alejandro for his knowledge on ships, and only to wonder how Adeline put up with him.

It was impressive and inclusive of dozens of cultures, something Starfleet strived to have. Peace, prosperity, and most of all knowledge. It was everything Cauis had pictured for his Yorktown idea, his work being praised by all, and how much she was going to have to tell him what she saw.

She jumped off the last step, flinging her body into the greenish tinted metal floor. She looked at the dozens of pods, knowing picking one out of a million didn't matter right now. Getting on one and flying out of here was too important.

"Damnit!" Silas cursed as he saw Brystal climbed into the first pod in front of her while the two were trying to catch their breath.

"You can move, you know?" Jason added, sarcastically as he pushed past him down the stairs.

Brystal searched her pod for switches, the chair crammed into the small area to move around. The console beeped to life as soon as the door shut, flashing lights from small buttons and the screen activating. Two levers for piloting were placed directly in front of her hands.

Her mind slightly panicked at the unknown sight, but she contained the anxiety and moved forward. She pulled down on the right lever, feeling the gravity of the ship go upwards. The pod slowly lifted off the ground, snapping off gravity cables.

The pod swerved around, facing towards the endless oblivion of stars. Before launching out, sending Jason and Silas sliding backwards on the heel of their boots. Hair flying backward and then.

They both looked up only to see Anya's pods following behind her, "She's not going to make it if Anya just goes ahead and fires on her pod!" Silas hopped into one of the pods and soon did Jason in another.

She had barely enough to dodge, yet another blasting of gunfire hammered towards her. Pulling sharply down on the levers to send her flying upward. Her head jolted backward, her teeth gritting in annoyance and frustration.

"Shit!" She muttered, pulling the lever back down. Her ship halted, sending her jolting back upward as it reset its way going forward smoothly.

"I wish you were a bit more clear on flying instructions, Alejandro," Brystal muttered as she maneuvered the ship away from the sound of gunfire streaking past the ship.

It was tiring trying to dodge every second of gunfire and trying not to get killed. But her eyes caught sight of other two pods, diving behind her. Only catching a glimpse, just enough to see Jason was in one of them.

And they were doing so much better at piloting a class F pod. She flicked on a few switches, pressing a button above her head to pitch in the conversations that might be going on.

"Patching through this crappy of coms is-" Jason cursed at his pod controls.

"Shit. The word you're looking for is shit," Silas replied.

"I feel like I've said that word too often in the past 24 hours," Jason seethed. The three pods took a sharp turning, piloting away from the orbiting spaceport.

"I think I know why you have," Silas said, practically in a taunting voice.

"Do you two always talk trash about one another?" Brystal interrupted them as she picked up her speaker.

"Wow....uh....i honestly thought you weren't a good person at mechanisms," Jason muttered, "I wasn't expecting you to know where the speaker was."

"It's very obvious, it's at my knee, and three lines with traveling audio for space, yes, I know exactly what a speaker looks like. This is 22nd century technology," Brystal answered.

"She has a point," Silas said swiveling around as her fired the pod's tiny canons, "But how the hell did Anya find us?"

"Otto had a signal go off from his shop a few hours ago, directed to farther reaches of space....." Jason said, being cut off by Brystal.

"Yeah, I think we have company coming."

Jason turned his head back to see five more new pods launching towards them. And through the glass panel of the leading ship, he saw a familiar white blonde haired woman draped in all black. The pods divided, chasing towards Brsytal's pod.

Jason quickly, turned back around, pulling down hard on the pod's yoke. Swirling upward before plunging back down, heading straight towards two of the pods. Silas looked pack before swinging his ship over like protection towards Brystal's.

"Of course he gets to be hero for the day," Silas muttered, " we need to go up, if we are going to make a jump in these."

"These pods are practically unstable!" Brystal retorted, "These could fall apart if we go into warp speed!"

"It's going to have to hold together! We can't stay here and let Anya get you!!"

Just as he said that, a blast of fire grazed the back of Brystal's pod. Her eyes darted to see the oxygen gas like material onboard the ship start to leak right in front of her. Frantically, she grabbed the oxygen mask hanging above her head, pulling onto her face.

The mask spread all  across her face, she took a sharp breath. Her mind clouded with tiredness and loss of energy. She found herself trying her hardest not to lose consciousness.

Silas watched panicked, but swerved his ship to see Anya's pod, "Back the fuck off for once!"

"Then, stay out of my way!" Anaya snarled, her hair lifted as electricity swarmed around her in a rage.

"This wrong and you know it!" Silas fired back.

"I don't think you have a say when you're about to do something even more horrible than just death."

Silas felt like a knife had been placed to the front of his throat. Like he was choking on anger and pain. It was cold and sharp like the edge of the knife, like being swallowed down his throat.

"Maybe your right....." Silas swallowed hard, but his expression changed, something new ignited in him, "But that doesn't mean I can't make it right."

Silas pitched in on the coms, blocking off Anya's voice, "Hello? Enterprise? If you're out there, I have your commander, but you need to hurry. Lock onto my coordinates! And Kirk you can kill me later if you want to."

"Hang in there, Pike," Silas looked once more out towards Anya and Jason flying a pod, shooting down the ships.

He pulled down hard on the yoke, pushing against the back of Brystal's pod, sending them both farther away from Anya. Silas pulled up the guns as he flicked a few switches, putting autopilot on. He watched as  he turned his chair to see the back door of his pod opening to get to Brystal.

Frantically, he pressed the button, feeling Anya tire a few shoots back. He watched as the door finally opened and Brystal's quickly losing consciousness by the second. Instinctively, he pulled her away from her pod and into his.

"Come on! Stay with me! That damn boyfriend of yours might just as well kill me!" Silas cursed, pulling her to lay onto the chair of his ship.

"Why.....are you helping....." Brystal rasped.

"Because I know now that I can't let an old friend down," Silas gave her a weak smile as the doors of their shuttles closed behind them. Brystal immediately understood who he had meant, knowing from the first time she mentioned her mother.

Silas had most likely known her mother for at least a century long. Maybe even teamed up or even was forced to work with her at points. And whatever she had meant to him  as a friend, must've been everything to him at this point.

He pulled the two levers sending his shuttle flying away from her pod spacecraft. Just a few seconds afterward, the ship blew up after a series of angry gunfire ruptured the ship. Silas could only imagine Anya's angry and frustrated cries when she wouldn't see the body.

The small pod piloted farther into the fabric of the pinpricked starry nebula. Brystal managed to loo over to her side, allowing herself to slowly regain control of herself. Look amongst the stars that were teeming with life, sprouted like little flower buds into fabric.

Silas felt a swarm of guilt catch hold of him as he looked back to see nothing but darkness. His Ming began to blur into a state of worry for what Jason and Frida might've thought what happened to him. What would become of him when he returned her to Starfleet?

He knew there would be consequences, there always was for making a mistake. He'd known that a long time ago when he agreed to a deal with Arik. But now he saw a bit of an opportunity to escape the life he was trapped in.

Always seeing Starfleet as the problem, when really it was the solution. It didn't matter now if he was captured, he'd be free to live his own life. To not answer any more calls or even go out and kill people.

"You were right on one thing," Silas turned to Brystal, "Your pod wouldn't make it through warp speed."

Brystal let out a raspy chuckle as she slowly removed her mask from her face, "What can I say? I know science like the back of my hand."

A bright beam of white light suddenly shown down on them. The two immediately squinted their eyes before staring up to see a large ship above them, not just any ordinary ship though. The Enterprise. Brystal watched as bright ribbons of light began to fall wrap around them.

A/N: basically the basis of the chapter. Not just Silas and Jason's brotherly bond on trash talking each other, but it's too adorable for me. And then Silas being such a sweetheart means everything to me.

(This is just basically what everyone's saying to each other the whole time)

And putting a cliffhanger to add up to the next chapter always gives a better dramatic effect.
