Lily

Silence.

Just pure silence.

Despite the ambulance arriving, people yelling and cars moving in front of me, the only thing I hear is a small ringing sound in my ear.

I do the best I can to open my eyes. When I do, it's blurry but good enough to see. I look down slowly and gasp, seeing blood covering me from my stomach and down. Glass pieces stick out of my hand and tons of pieces lay out on the dashboard.

My mind blank, I blink rapidly, trying to understand what happened. One moment I was talking to Theo, the next I was bleeding.

Theo

I turn to the side, but a pain rips throughout my body and I cry out. As if someone is drilling a needle into my rib, tears pour down my face and I feel myself about to faint.

But when I lay eyes on Theo, I push my pain aside. He lies on the seat, blood flowing out of his side and arm. I reach my arm out to touch him.

"Muffin." I croak out and my heart shatters when he doesn't turn around with a small smile as usual.

I unbuckle the seatbelt and my stomach burns as I move closer and touch his arm softly.

"Muffin, can you hear me?"

He doesn't respond, and I begin crying harder. I remove a piece of glass from his arm and wipe the blood with my sweater.

"Theo, please wake up, baby. Oh please, I need you." I sniffle and take another piece of glass out of his shoulder. "Please. I can't lose you. Please!"

When his arm moves and his eyes flutter open after I say this, I breathe a sigh of relief. As soon as he sees me, he opens his arms out to hug me, but I hold a hand out.

"No, don't do that."

He stares at me with a look of hurt and more tears fall down my face. I push aside the pain in my heart and body and touch what's left of his door.

"We've just got to get out of here before we get even more hurt."

Theo nods and I frown when I can't feel my feet move with me. I pause and turn to him. His eyes are red and he puts his head back on the seat.

I try to move as tears and blood pour down my face. "Theo, am I moving my legs?"

He looks down and turns away. I cry harder, "Am I?"

He glances back at my legs and a tear falls down his face. "No, baby. You're not moving at all. I'm sorry."

I sit back down in defeat. The blood pours out of my stomach and arm harder and my vision becomes more and more blurry. My heart rate starts to slow down and my arm becomes numb.

Theo sits up as my body starts to get cold. He unbuckles his seatbelt and turns to me. "No, no, no, don't you give up on me, Lily."

My eyes droopy, I shake my head. "I- I can't. I'm tired, Muffin."

He shakes his head and moves glass pieces off of me. More tears pour down his face as he holds my face, blood all over his hands. "Where the hell is my baby? Lily Hernandez. The love of my life. The woman I know would keep fighting. She wouldn't give up this easily, because she's too fucking strong."

My body is getting colder and I see Theo physically shake as his hand tightens on my face. "Don't do this to me, Lily! Keep fighting, baby, keep fighting!" I let my eyes close.

"Lily, fuck- can we get the fucking ambulance over here? She's dying!" He lets go of my face and I open my eyes the best that I can to see where he is going.

Blood dripping out of his arm, he groans as he gets out of the car. Theo rushes over to an ambulance car and after yelling, they come towards the car. My body ice cold, they carry me on the gurney and the last thing I hear is Theo yelling at the paramedic before my eyes shut.

Theo

I open my eyes and glare when I see a nurse stabbing a needle into my arm for the twentieth time.

I rub my eyes and look down, seeing I am in a hospital dress. I push the needle as she is about to do it again. "How many times are you going to fucking do that?"

She smiles, "Sir, I understand you are grumpy and groggily from the surgery but I advise you-"

"Surgery?"

"Yes sir, you were in bad condition from the accident. Do you not remember? You had some brain damage, and a few fractured bones, but you're a strong, healthy man! After a few weeks of physical therapy, you should be good."

Lily.

Where the fuck is Lily?

I get out of the hospital bed and rush away as she gasps. "Mr. Acquire, you're not fully recovered f-"

I turn back around. "What room is she in?"

"Sir, you're not fully recovered from surgery. You need to rest."

"Where is she?" I ask, irritatedly.

She smiles, "True love at its finest."

"Woman, what room is my girlfriend in?"

"One-forty-five, dear. I must warn you, you're probably going to faint bec-"

I rush off before she can finish talking. When I reach Lily's room, a nurse stands over her with a sad expression. I sit down in a chair next to Lily. She lies on the hospital bed, her eyes closed and body still.

I face the nurse, "Is she-"

She pats my shoulder. "I'm sorry, sir. We did all we could." She says before walking back to the door.

I lie my head on Lily's leg in disbelief. Tears start to form and my hands shake as I reach out to touch her face.

"Sike!" Lily shouts, sitting up and I jump back.

I wipe my eyes and turn to the nurse in shock. She stands smiling as Lily holds her stomach, laughing hysterically.

I stand up, looking between the both of them. "You motherfuckers."

The nurse laughs and Lily laughs so hard she snorts. "It was her idea." The nurse says, pointing to Lily.

I face Lily with a glare, "That shits not funny. I was shaking, you little shit."

She holds her arms out for a hug. "I'm sorry, Muffin, but I could not miss this opportunity!"

I deny her hug and sit back down. "My heart stopped Lily. That's not funny."

She leans closer, her arms still out for a hug. "Oh, come on, I'm sorry. You know I meant no harm." She grins and glances at my lips. Lily turns to the nurse. "Can you believe this hot guy is my boyfriend?"

I face the nurse as well. "She's high, isn't she?"

"Very."

Lily makes one of her hands into a circle and sticks her pointer finger inside of it. The nurse gasps and I cover my mouth to suppress the laugh that is trying to escape. Lily holds up her thumb and smiles at the nurse.

"I tell you, that man knows how to pleasure a lady! I mean, every day he's just-" she thrusts her hips and I laugh. "And we're not just talkin' about the measly four inches like the guy who took my virginity."

My laughter stops at the mention of him as she leans forward and puts her hand on the side of her face to prevent me from seeing. "What's four plus five?" She asking, giggling.

"Ni-" The nurse gasps and points her index finger, "Ms. Hernandez!"

Lily begins laughing hysterically again, holding her stomach as her face turns bright red. I shake my head and stand up. I start to feel dizzy and my eyes flutter open. Lily and the nurse screech as I fall to the ground.

Before I know I am on a hospital bed and doctors are poking needles into my skin again. I fall asleep shortly after and when I wake up, Lily's nurse is standing over me. I laugh at how familiar she looks. She looked like someone I had seen before, but I just couldn't put my foot on it.

I sit up and hold my hand out as she tries to adjust my pillow. "Back. The. Fuck. Up."

She frowns at me and backs away, "My apologies, Mr. Acquire I-"

I laugh. "I'm just messin' with you. I've always wanted to say that." I look to the side and see a water bag thingy. "That looks like a boob-" I try to touch it, but she swats my hand away.

"Sir, that's the thing keeping you ali-"

I search around the room. "Hey, where's Lily?"

Lily's head lifts and she waves at me from the bed on the side of me. "Hey, Muffin!"

I smile and wave back, "Hey, sweetheart! How've you been!" I shout

"Sir, you guys are right next to each othe-"

"I'm good, sugar!" She shouts back. "I nearly died though! Can you believe that?"

I laugh and nod in understanding. "Same!"

Lily smiles and makes a heart with her hands. "I miss you so much! We haven't seen each other in years!"

"Ms. Hernandez, it's been thirty minutes."

"I know, right!" I reply and face the nurse. "You gave us the crack, didn't you?"

Her eyes widen, "Why, of course not! I would never harm my patients in w-"

I smile, "Babe, would you look at that? Sally gave us the crack instead of the basic shit!"

"Mr. Acquire, I did not give y-"

Lily claps, "Oh Sally, aren't you just a peach!"

"We'll have to get you a gift for your dedication to our community, Sally." I say and Lily nods.

"Hell yeah!"

I am about to write her a check, but when I look at her closely, I pause. "You look like Larry the dolphin."

Lily laughs loudly. "She does, doesn't she!"

"Maybe that's his secret twin sister." I whisper, and we laugh harder.

Lily's facial expression turns into one of sadness. "What if they have another brother? They abandoned him, Muffin."

When she begins crying, I turn to the nurse. "Look what you did, Larry the dolphin's sister! You made my girl cry!"

"I… I don't know what I di-"

"Shut up!" I say as Lily continues to cry. "Just go find your brother, alright? He needs you more than us."

She still stands there, looking at me in confusion. I point to the door, "Well, don't just stand there! Go!" I shout, and she quickly runs off.
