Eight: Cigarettes are bad for you, kids
Theo
Lily Hernandez is the most beautiful woman I have ever seen. And that's been fucking me with me for almost three weeks.
Every time I looked at her, I wanted to sit her on my desk and have my way with her until she was unable to speak. But I couldn't do that. I didn't deserve that. Lily's heart, soul and mind were far more pure than my whole existence. Anyone that met her could see it.
I adjust my tie and she walks in with papers. She licks her lips and my eyes immediately dart to them.
"Fuck." I mumble.
She looks at me with concern, "What's wrong, muffin?"
I shake my head, "Nothing."
"Yes, it is. You can tell me you know?"
I chuckle. "No. No I cannot, Lily." I reply, quietly.
She smiles widely, "Well, would you look at that!"
"What?"
She goes behind my chair as I stare in confusion. Wrapping her arms around my shoulders, she embraces me with a hug and rocks side to side. "You called me by my first name!"
I moved her arms that were not long enough to fit around my chest off of me. "So?"
"I've been your assistant for almost three weeks and you've only called me by my last name. That means you're warming up to me, sugar." She replies and pokes my nose. I quickly swat it away and stand up with a frown.
"No, I'm not shut up,"
I walk to the cabinet to put away the papers she handed me and when I turn away, she is sitting on my desk biting her lip.
"What?" I ask when she doesn't say anything.
"You've got a real nice tush." Her hand flies to her mouth and her eyes grow wide. "I didn't mean to say that aloud!"
I laugh and walk back to her, "You've got a nice ass too, Lily."
She blushes and hops off the desk. "That's certainly not true. I don't have nothin' back there, muffin."
I glance at her ass on my way back to my chair and smirk, "Why don't you lift that dress so I can get a better look."
Her head turns around hastily and she stares at me in shock, "Oh my Lord, you are bold!" She laughs and sits down. "Goodness gracious, you're a real flirt, Mr. Boss." She moves her hair in her face to try to hide her blush and I laugh.
Taking a cigarette out of my pocket, I grab my suit jacket, lock my drawer and begin walking back to the door.
"Where are you going?"
"Somewhere you're not."
She frowns, "Why not?"
"Because it's none of your business." I reply, putting my jacket on and searching for my lighter in the pocket.
"Can I come?"
"No."
"Please, oh please, muffin! Please!"
I try to ignore her, but she continues to beg. I roll my eyes before sighing, "Fine, but don't talk to everyone you see. Not everyone needs to know about Vivo's life, Ms. Hernandez."
She giggles and grabs her bag. I noticed she brought that bag everywhere. "Of course, I wouldn't tell them about Vivo. You're the only one I talk to about Vivo. Y'all are just so alike, you know?"
"No, I don't know."
I finally find my lighter and after shutting the door, we begin walking to the elevator. Not ten seconds pass before she opens her mouth to speak again, "Wait." She says as we step into the elevator.
"What now?"
"You listen to me." She whispers and stares at the floor. A smile slowly forms on her face and she faces me, "You listen to me!" she shouts cheerfully and wraps her arms around me tightly.
My thoughts are to immediately move her off of me but I glance down at her wide smile as she hugs me tightly. I decided to let her hug me for a little while longer before moving away.
When the elevator arrives at the last floor, we get out and I light my cigarette. As I take the first hit, my body relaxes and Lily gasps.
"Those are bad for you. Why are you still smokin 'em?"
I don't reply, instead continue walking to the car. She snatches it out of my mouth, and I frown. I try to grab it back, but she pushes it away, making the hot ash hit her arm.
"Crap." Is all she mumbles, as if she is used to it.
I snatch the cigarette from her and drop it on the ground. Taking her arm, I rub it gently until the ashes leave her arm.
"Fuck. I'm sorry, Lily."
"It's all right. I'm the one who grabbed it, anyway."
"Are you okay?" I continue rubbing her arm to make sure it is fine, and she laughs.
Moving her arm away, she pulls her sleeve down. "I'm fine." She says, waving a dismissive hand.
After some hesitation, I leave her alone and we get in my car. I decided to drive instead of calling my driver, since the coffee shop isn't far from here. The whole way to the shop, Lily babbles about how much money it would take to create the world's largest chocolate chip cookie.
When we arrive, I see the man I'm supposed to meet is not there, and I become irritated. I didn't like waiting on people, people waited on me and if they had a problem with it, they were too much of a coward to say it to my face.
I also hated talking. Which was one of the reasons people assumed I was grumpy. I just didn't like talking to people, and after Cass's passing that only increased my want to ignore the entire human population. But unfortunately I ran an investment company and now have a cheerful, talkative personal assistant.
We take a seat at one of the tables. Lily sits across from me and places her bag on her chair. I tap my fingers against the table rapidly, looking around the coffee shop, trying to spot that son of bitch that was supposed to meet me. He was the owner of this shop and I was thinking of making an invenstemnt in it. We spoke on the phone for almost two hours about it and he doesn't even show up. The audacity.
Lily orders an ice coffee with whipped cream and I order a black coffee. Once the waiter is gone, she leans her elbows on the table and rests her chin in her hands.
"What's wrong, sugar?" She asks, frowning.
"Nothing."
"You're lying. You've got that nasty scowl on your face and you've been tapping your fingers against the table like a beaver."
"Nothing is wrong, Ms. Hernandez."
"Yes there i-"
"What are you? A goddamn therapist? I said nothing, alright?"
She nods and I rub my forehead with a sigh. "Lily-"
"How old are you, Mr. Boss?" She asks with a smile, changing the subject, and I sigh again.
"Twenty-five."
"Look at that! You're only a year older than me! It's a shame I still live with my mama though and you're... well, you don't live with your mama." She replies with a small laugh.
"I'm not judging you, Lily. "
She pats my hand and my fingers stop tapping the table. "Thank you." She responds.
I look at her hand and a weird feeling goes to my stomach. It only happens when I'm with Lily and I don't like it at all. It makes me feel warm and soft. Fucking disgusting.
My phone vibrates on the table and she takes her hand off of me. I check it and see a message from the man I was here for, Keith, saying he won't make it today and will see me tomorrow.
Fuck. That.
I get up and place a few bills on the table. "You can go home, Lily."
"Why? Is everything alright?"
"Everything is just fucking peachy."
She stands up. "Well, where are you going?"
"I'm going to go talk to someone. I'll see you tomorrow."
