Chapter 12: Chat Blanc
Third-Person
"From Chat Noir...?" Marinette asked herself. Chat Noir must have been here already. Then she realized...
He must've seen the kiss...
Marinette started to cry. She never meant to kiss Nathaniel. She thought it was Chat that was kissing her at first, how was she going to explain to him? She knew, deep down, that Chat Noir never wanted her and Nathaniel to be together, let alone hang out. He might even be akumatized already. She ran down, and put the flowers on the vase, mixing it with the flowers Adrien gave her before.
Then Marinette went to get her purse, and she opened it, revealing a weak and pale Tikki. "Tikki! What happened to you?!?" Marinette took her kwami out of her bag, and put Tikki into her palms. "M-Marinette, Plagg isn't feeling very good." Tikki said, feeble on her holder's palms.
"Plagg? You mean Chat Noir's Kwami...?" Marinette asked. "Yes...I can't turn you to Ladybug, Plagg and I, we're two halves of a whole. Literally. If he's not feeling well, I won't be as well. And vise versa." Tikki said weakly. "S-so you're not hungry or anything? Maybe you just need food, and you'll be back to normal...!" Marinette said worriedly.
Tikki shook her head weakly. "I think Chat Noir is akumatized. That's the only reasonable explanation." Tikki told her. "How do I cleanse the Akuma without you? Without Ladybug?" Marinette questioned.
"Marinette, you are Ladybug, I just give you powers and a suit. All you have to do is to try and get rid of Chat Noir's negative emotions, then the Akuma will fly out. Automatically cleansed if we're lucky." Tikki stated. "W-what? I didn't know that was possible..." Marinette said. Tikki nodded.
"How do I do that Tikki? And why me?" "That's all up to you Marinette. Also, it has to be you. Every akumatized person still have positive emotions, and only you can bring Chat's out. He loves you Marinette, but please do it fast, I feel unwell..." Tikki replied. Marinette blushed. How is Tikki so sure about that? She shook her question off.
"I'll try my best Tikki, I'll go find him." Marinette said, determined. She put Tikki back on her sling bag carefully, and she closed it. Adjusting and bringing it just in case.
Okay, find Chat Noir, get rid of negative emotions, and fix everything as Ladybug once Tikki is back to normal.
Marinette thought. She went up to her balcony again to find Chat Noir from there. She saw something...white?
"Chat Noir?!?"
His suit was all white, including his hair. His eyes weren't the green eyes she loved. His eyes were now turquoise, calm yet evil. "It's Chat Blanc Princess..." He walked to her, lifting her chin with his index and middle finger. His ocean green eyes met her blue ones.
How did it come to this...?
Flashback
Chat Noir was finally doing it. He was going to ask Marinette to be his girlfriend. It was already nine sharp, and he was waiting on her balcony, holding a bouquet of her favorite roses. He smiled at it. He waited for a little while, and it was already 9:03.
He wondered why Marinette didn't go up to her balcony yet. He opened Marinette's trap door, seeing something that crushed him.
Marinette was kissing him.
Marinette was kissing Nathaniel.
Tears escaped his eyes, and he dropped the bouquet. Both of them were smiling. Nathaniel looked happy kissing her, just as Marinette looked happy kissing Nathaniel. He jumped off her balcony, leaving the loft open.
He cried, wiping his never-ending falling tears. "I should have known it would end like this..."
Nathaniel won the princess's heart fair and square. He can't do anything about it. Deep down, he thought Marinette liked him back. But turns out, no one will love him. Not Ladybug, not Marinette, no one. He secretly wanted to kill and destroy that redhead until he turned into useless ash.
The fear of being akumatized was the last thing on his mind at the moment. He was unaware of the dark butterfly going into his flower ring. A purple, neon mask appeared on his tear-filled face.
"Chat Blanc, the one you love has found another. I shall give you the power of destruction without limit, and you can use it to destroy the one who stole the heart of your beloved. All I ask in return, is for you to give me Ladybug's miraculous. And once you have, you must give me your own." Hawkmoth said to him.
"N-no! I w-wont...!" He shook his head, holding it with his two hands. "Oh you will, you wouldn't want that girl and the other boy to end up together do you?" Hawkmoth said, laughing evilly. Then again, he did want to kill Nathaniel, he could have the power of destruction, and he could be using it limitlessly. More than once.
Then, no one could ever touch his precious princess. He could have her all to himself. He could no longer fight all his thoughts. "I-I'm s-so sorry, Paris, Ladybug. I'm sorry Marinette...!" Chat Noir shouted.
"Just give me Ladybug's miraculous and your own, then you will have her all to yourself..." Hawkmoth said.
"Anything for my princess..."
He stopped resisting, letting the dark, magic bubbles surround him. Turning him into Chat Blanc.
"I will destroy everything, and do whatever it takes to have her to myself." Chat Blanc whispered, leaping towards Marinette's balcony.
Present
He pinned her to the wall and kissed her on the lips, which made Marinette squeak in surprise.
She melted into the kiss, her eyes closed. She cupped his cheeks. They kissed for longer than a minute, constantly breathing for air and crashing their lips together again. It felt wrong, yet so right. What was she doing? This isn't the real Chat.
She took her hands back, opening her eyes, pulling away and gasping for air. Chat Blanc licked his lips, exposing his white, yet very sharp teeth, tasting Marinette's strawberry lip gloss. "I knew you loved me..." Chat Blanc mumbled. Their noses, still touching.
She blushed, He knew she loved him? Why did Chat kiss her? Did he really love her back?
The butterfly-shaped mask appeared on his face once again. "Chat Blanc! I asked for you to get the miraculous, I didn't akumatize you to get a front-row seat just to see you kiss with this girl...!" Hawkmoth complained.
"Calm down Hawkie, I'll get the Ladybug Miraculous. Just be patient, and let me have my fun." Chat Blanc rolled his eyes, turning his head back to Marinette and smirking. Hawkmoth grunted in annoyance because of the nickname.
No matter how tempting it was to just continue, and forget about the rest of the world, he still had to take care of the boy that stole Marinette. And get Ladybug's miraculous.
"Stay here princess, I will destroy the redhead that kissed you. Then, we can finally be together." Chat Blanc instructed. He was about to go, when Marinette took his arm. "Chat Noi- I mean, Chat Blanc, please don't kill him. Spare his life..." Marinette pleaded.
"You're adorable princess, but he has to be punished. He kissed you, and any boy who touches or talks to you will face my wrath," Chat Blanc said. Marinette flushed at him calling her adorable, but she shook it off.
Marinette nodded in reply. She couldn't let Nathaniel die, but she had to agree with him for now. It wasn't the time to get rid of his negative emotions yet. "Okay..." Marinette gulped. "Good, now wait here for a meow-ment. I'll be back purr-incess, once I've gotten Ladybug's earrings." Chat Blanc told her. Marinette flinched at the mention of her alter-ego, but nodded again.
Chat Blanc jumped off, finding Nathaniel, intending to use him as blackmail for Ladybug.
Marinette waited until he was completely gone, went down, and went out of her house, secretly following him.
"Nathaniel Kurtzberg..." Chat Blanc caught his attention. Nathaniel was about to open the door to his house to go inside, but there was a white-gloved hand on his shoulder, stopping him. He turned around. "W-who are you?!?" Nathaniel asked, dropping his sketchpad. "That doesn't matter now..." Chat Blanc smirked. "Hey! What are you doing...?!?" Nathaniel backed away, frightened.
Chat held his neck, holding him up. "Cough Cough P-please s-stop Cough." Chat Blanc chocked him, digging his claws in his neck, blood dripping.
"You're lucky I'll be using you for blackmail. I won't be killing you...for now." Chat Blanc said, taking him by his shirt, and jumping towards the Eiffel Tower.
He landed, almost at the very top of the tower. He held him at the edge. "P-please stop, I didn't do anything to you..." Nathaniel said in a shaky voice, choking up blood. Chat Blanc rolled his eyes. "Ladybug! I know you're there, give up your miraculous and I might just spare his life...!" Chat Blanc shouted.
He was right, but also wrong about Ladybug being there. Marinette tried climbing up to the top using the stairs. She reached her intended destination, jumping into the scene.
She wanted to stop this, once and for all.
"Chat Noir! Stop this!" Chat Blanc turned around and frowned. "But I thought you love me? I thought you wanted us to be together, forever?" Chat Blanc asked, putting Nathaniel down, but still holding him so he wouldn't run away. "Let him go Chat Noir." Marinette demanded.
"It's Chat Blanc, and I told you to stay to your balcony! Just let me take care of everything Marinette..." Chat Blanc said to her. Marinette walked to him, forgetting what Tikki said about getting rid of the negative emotions instead of breaking the akumatized object.
"Chat this isn't like you, please stop..." Marinette caught Chat Blanc's attention and Marinette quickly removed his bell and crushed it with her foot, but nothing came out.
Well shoot-
"What were you gonna do???" Chat Blanc became angry. "Chat, this is for your own goo-" Chat Blanc put an end to her sentence. "You love Nathaniel, don't you?!? You were just pretending to love me earlier to get my Akuma! You're working with Ladybug...!" Chat Blanc exclaimed, furious.
"No! Please hear me out...!" Chat Blanc didn't hesitate and threw Nathaniel to the floor on full force, grabbed Marinette by her shirt, dragging her to a pillar, and taking some rope. He tied her hands to the pillar with the rope and went back to Nathaniel.
"CATACLYSM!"
He touched Nathaniel's lips, turning him into ash. Chat Blanc laughed hysterically as the ash was carried away by the wind. "NOOO...!" Marinette cried out, trembling as a tear formed in her bluebell eyes. He turned to Marinette. "If I can't have you..."
"Then nobody will."
He started carelessly killing almost every Parisian with his cataclysm by extending his hand and flicking his fingers. They all screamed in terror as each and every one of them was being turned to dust. Chat Blanc destroyed large pillars that held buildings, causing them to fall apart. He stopped when he heard the whimpering of a blunette.
"M-Mari...?" He whispered, looking a bit worried. "Chat Blanc, where is Ladybug!" Hawkmoth asked angrily. Chat looked away from Marinette, shaking his head. "I don't know..." He replied. "Continue what you were doing, surely she will show up once everything's destroyed." Hawkmoth guessed.
"Y-yes Hawkmoth..."
Meanwhile, Marinette's chest was aching with guilt. She was responsible for this whole mess. Everyone was dying because of her. Everyone was suffering in front of her very eyes. Just because she accidentally kissed Nathaniel. She should have just listened to Tikki. She started it, so she's going to stop it.
"Tikki, help." Marinette hoped her kwami at least had the strength to get her out of the situation she got herself into. The white kwami went out of her purse, breathing heavily. "I'm so sorry Tikki, I didn't listen to you, please help me." Marinette whispered to her kwami.
Tikki nodded, not having the strength to talk. The kwami flew to the rope and untied it, but struggled to do so. "Thanks..." She threw the rope to the side, put her kwami back in her bag, and set her purse aside. Planning to get it back when this was all over.
Marinette stood up, a determined expression crossed her face. She let the fierce wind blow through her hair, and she took off the two hair ties that held up her pigtails.
It's time...
She walked towards the Cat-themed villain. "Stop this." Marinette said in a stern voice, stopping him from destroying another building. He turned around, facing her. "Why should I listen to you...?" Chat Blanc said rudely. "Please, just stop...you aren't the Chat Noir I know and love..." Marinette said, walking towards him.
"I told you...I'm Chat Blanc! And I-" Chat's eyes widened, realizing the words in her sentence. "Y-you love me?" Chat Blanc pointed to himself. "Of course I do..." Marinette smiled genuinely, putting her hands on his chest, and looking up at him. "But I-"
"You remember when you came to my balcony?" Marinette asked. Chat Blanc nodded. "Chat Blanc! Focus, what are you doing?!?" Hawkmoth shouted.
Chat Blanc ignored him. "When I was heartbroken, you comforted me, cared for me, made me happy and feel better. Right?" Chat nodded.
"When I was held up by Gaea, you saved me, telling me you couldn't focus on defeating her knowing I wasn't safe. When I tripped, you became mad, wanting to know who hurt me, then, you treated my scar and bruise. When I asked you if you would come back to spend time with me, you did, and you kept your promise. Even if it meant you getting sick. When I was scared of the thunder, you were there for me Chat, you always are..."
Chat Blanc blushed. "Chat Blanc! Stop listening to her...!" Hawkmoth was ignored once again. "Chat, you are an amazing person. You are caring, endearing, kind, empathetic, honest, a good listener, you respect my personal space, and you're a great hero. Chat, I love you. I just hadn't realized it." Marinette said, standing on her toes to reach his height.
"I love you too..."
He whispered. Chat Blanc's turquoise eyes pierced through her sapphire ones. Their eyes shut, faces becoming closer, enough for Marinette to smell his perfume, and for him to smell her lavender shampoo. Marinette's dress blew against the wind. Her hands wrapped around his neck, and his white, gloved hands were cupping her delicate cheeks. Their lips finally brushed against each other, and Chat smiled in the kiss.
Chat's suit started turning black again, his eyes, green, his hair, blonde. A purified butterfly went out of his flower ring.
How did that work?
None of them knew.
Was it Hawkmoth's doing?
Maybe.
What was important was that he was back to normal, he was not in Hawkmoth's control anymore, and he was no longer Chat Blanc. Because he was...
Chat Noir
Marinette Pov
I didn't want to, but I had to.
I backed away, wanting to breathe. I immediately missed his warmth. Chat Noir looked like he was back to normal. And I had just confessed to him everything I felt and thought about him. I smiled at him, crying tears of joy. He opened his eyes, but he looked like he didn't understand anything that was happening, or anything that just happened.
My heart was crushed by the truth and reality, and instead of crying tears of happiness, I started crying tears of sorrow. I put my hands at my mouth, accidentally backing away a little too much, and...
I fell
I fell, I opened my eyes in utter shock, but closed them as I found myself falling to my death. I smiled sadly, accepting my fate and surrendering to the world. Everything was a blur, it was only me and the blue sky.
My tears were taken by the wind, and the air pushed against my face, preventing me from breathing. I was beyond happy to be sharing my last moments with the boy I loved.
Memories of me and my loved ones flashed in my mind. I smiled to myself, and I almost didn't even feel someone grabbing me.
"C-Chat...?"
He was holding on to me as his stick hit the ground and slowly contrasted. Our feet touched the ground and I collapsed, my chest and back still hurt because of what seemed to me like a long fall. I hugged Chat Noir, crying in his arms. Glad I didn't have to say goodbye to my family, or to anyone for that matter.
"P-princess? Why are you crying? What's going on...?" He asked me, a hint of worry and sadness in his voice. He really hadn't remembered anything. He hadn't remembered my confession, he hadn't remembered saying he loved me. And he hadn't remembered our kiss.
I wanted to bawl my eyes out, not wanting to believe the truth. "You don't remember anything do you?" I asked in a muffled voice, trying to sniffle back my tears. He shook his head, hugging me back hesitantly. "D-did I get akumatized? Did I hurt anyone?!?"
I decided not to answer his question, and thank him instead. "Thank you for catching me Chat..." I said. He nodded.
"I will always be there to catch you..."
I smiled in his chest.
"Marinette...what happened? I don't-" I cut him off. "I don't know if I can tell you. I don't even know if anything you said to me was true." I told him. He was a villain, he was akumatized. All he could have said was a lie. Did he really love me? Was it all just some big charade? Or was his feelings for me sincere and true?
I didn't know...
"Did I say anything that offended you?"
"No."
I replied. I could tell he was looking around our surroundings in shock, wonder, and confusion. Seeing every bit of Paris destroyed. I heard him sigh. "I'm taking you home..." Chat Noir stated, and I didn't protest. He carried me, and I held on tight. He jumped towards our bakery to take me back.
I swore I saw him wipe a tear when we arrived at my balcony. "I hope you're happy with your new boyfriend Marinette, I'm afraid I may not see you again." He looked away, avoiding eye contact.
Huh...?
"What are you talking about?" I scoffed. "You and Nathaniel, you're together, am I right?" Chat asked me, smiling sadly. "Of course not...!" I answered. He shook his head in disbelief, his face a mix of confusion, excitement, and happiness. "I thought you love him, and he loves you?"
I sighed, he got it all wrong. "You saw him kiss me didn't you...?" I smirked, and he nodded in reply. "Where are you going with this?" I brushed his question off. "I kissed him back for one reason and one reason only." I told him. "Which is...?" He wanted me to continue.
"I unintentionally imagined that I was kissing someone else at that time."
I booped his nose.
Chat Noir Pov
Someone else?
Who was this someone else?
Marinette booped my nose. She gave me hope and made me blush. "So you didn't mean to kiss him?" I asked her. "Duh! Didn't I tell you I love someone else before? That someone else isn't Nathaniel." She said to me, making me blush a deeper shade of red. I couldn't describe the feeling I felt at that very moment. I felt ecstatic and over-the-moon excited.
Was it possible Marinette really loves me?
So she was telling me, that what I just witnessed on this very balcony, wasn't what I thought. That when she kissed Nathaniel back, she was imagining she was kissing someone else.
I tried calming the rapid beating of my heart. I didn't want to jump to any conclusions and be heartbroken again.
"Also..." She trailed off, not continuing her sentence. "I love the bouquet, thank you Chat." She thanked me. So she saw the bouquet I dropped. I chuckled to myself and she gave me a confused look. "I'm sorry you had to see it like that..." I apologized.
"Oh no! It was perfect...! I put it on a vase actually, with the other roses given to me." She said, gesturing for me to go inside so I could see. I did as told, and we both came down. I saw the vase she talked about. It had the roses I gave her as Adrien, the rose I gave her on her birthday, and the roses I dropped on her balcony.
A smile crossed my face. "Woah...!" I exclaimed. But I was a bit curious on what exactly happened after they kissed. "What happened after...?" I asked. Marinette didn't need a further explanation of what I meant.
"I actually...rejected him, and I'm glad he understood that I loved someone else." Marinette said, pulling a loose strand of hair behind her ear. "Oh..."
I felt kinda bad for the guy. I know very well how it feels to be rejected. But he should have understood, it's good that he did. Because if he didn't, and he forced Marinette to love him, I would-
"Chat? Hello? Earth to Chat Noir...?" Marinette snapped me out of my thoughts, waving her hand in front of my face. I chuckled sheepishly. "What were you saying?" I questioned. She sighed in exasperation. "I wanted to apologize..."
"For what?" I asked her. "You saw me kiss him, and well...you got akumatized. I knew you didn't want me to be with him Chat." I blushed at her apology, did she know I love her?
"You got akumatized because of me...I'm sorry." She said morosely. "It's fine Mari, it wasn't your fault." I reassured her, hugging her. "Thanks, kitty..." She said, returning the gesture.
I wondered whatever happened when I was akumatized. I spaced out, wondering if I hurt Marinette when I was in Hawkmoth's control. Wondering if I said anything that was related to my feelings for her.
When I caught Marinette from her fall earlier, she told me she didn't want to tell me what happened. She didn't want to tell me anything I said to her when I was Chat Blanc. She even said she wasn't sure if anything I said to her was true, or if it was a lie.
I wanted to tell her. I wanted to tell her everything. I wanted to tell her how I felt. I didn't care anymore. I have had enough. I couldn't afford to lose her to another boy again.
"Marinette...I have something to tell you."
She broke from our long-lasting hug. "Yeah...?" She asked, her full attention now on me.
"I love-"
Beep beep
I sighed, maybe next time. "Sorry princess, I'll tell you tomorrow. Gotta hightail outta here before I detransform." I said jokingly, going out the trapdoor and closing it. I opened it again, putting my head through. Grinning my signature smirk.
"Aren't you going to see me out...?" I asked. "I thought you'd never ask." Marinette smiled sweetly, making me fall in love with her all over again. I helped her get up to her balcony with my hand.
The stars twinkled on the night sky as I looked into her deep, blue eyes. I leaned in and kissed the edge of her lips like I always would whenever I leave. I wanted to kiss her on her lips, and show her how much I loved her. But she probably just thought of us as best friends. I reluctantly pulled away.
"Goodnight my princess." I whispered. Our faces, extremely close. "Goodnight mon chaton..." She replied in a quiet voice. I jumped at the railing of her balcony, and she grabbed my arm, stopping me from leaving. "M-Marinette? What is it?" My face turned a bit red.
"C-can I ask you something?" She asked me. I nodded in response, intrigued. She took a deep breath. It seemed like she just couldn't make up the words she was going to tell me. I waited patiently for the question she intended to ask me.
"What are we...?"
