Chapter 7.

My eyes opened, and I saw my wife, making herself tidy by looking in the dressing table, which was adjacent to the sofa, she looked at me, and gleamed at me through her reflection. I smiled at her too. She uttered by looking at me on the mirror, "I am going to galley, our friends are preparing Sheera, I guess. I replied, "Yes." And I smiled. She walked out of the room, closing the door behind her. I wanted to talk to her about the last night adventure, but later I thought, it was an illusion, as we are all alive, we are not devoured by the so-called apparitions, demons residing in this place. I got up and refreshed myself, and pulled over fresh clothes, and walked out of the room. As I was out of the room, I could smell the aroma of Sheera, which is made up of semolina, I saw my friends on the table, and deck chairs, the ladies had assembled the breakfast on the tables, and we were ready. The sun rose up the horizon, and as I looked up the watch, it was twenty-minutes past eight. We had the Sheera, it was scrumptious, it was made in huge quantity, so I had three plates. Jagat uttered, "River is still rising, also there were heavy rains few kilometres away from us." I replied, "Yes, the monsoon has arrived." The weather was cloudy, but the winds did not abate one little jot, there was heavy splashing for river, and our friends were talking about the climate, the environment, and I understood that, our friends were decided to stay here for a day, as the rivers were raging ahead, so they were waiting for the river to subside. I did not tell my wife or my friends about my last night adventure, or my dream, I do not know whatever it was.

Jagat voice was carrying a suspicion about this place, Jagat and I went to the cabin, and we were checking the map on the computer, we were sitting and reading the map. As he was in police, so he was well-versed in reading the map. Jagat punched the keys, and tapping the mouse to have the clear view of the map. We were studying the map, and I uttered, "We could get off in an hour, if the flood subsides." I wanted to get confession from Jagat about this place. Jagat answered, "Rather, if they let us." I asked in a jiffy, "Who would let us? The elements?" Jagat replied, "The power of this awful place, whoever they are, present in this place." Jagat kept on reading the map, checking all the directions, and he continued, "The world is full of mysteries, there are elemental forces all around the world, some are visible, meanwhile some are invisible, but they are just minuscule in front of God Almighty, who is the source of all power." I thin line of smile spread on my face, but on the other hand, my face reflected the true feeling. Jagat looked gravely at me, and conversed, "We could manage to get from here without any disaster." This is it, and this is exactly, what I dreaded, perhaps, this place has elemental forces, living here since ages. The rest of our feeling was just pretence, and I asked, "What happened Bro?" Jagat uttered, "Today, early in the morning, the machine had broken down, but Surendran, Khusboo, Jay, and Ranjita had repaired it, but still, they would come back again here, and do the rest of the work. I stammered, "Broke... Broken down.... What? How?" Jagat continued, "It seemed like it was a deliberate intention of trapping us in this place." I knew what Jagat had to say, but I had to shroud my fear of something unknown, a thing which is unaccounted. Perhaps, I knew the meaning of every word, which Jagat was conveying to me. I concealed my fear, and replied with a poised tone, "Staying here for a long time is no good, but I think we should be careful, and at least we have enough provisions. This secluded place has surged our emotion, and its beauty has enchanted us in basking in its glory, and imagining of her." Jagat met my eyes squarely, and then he laughed a bit, and replied, "You can explain everything." There was a freezing atmosphere descending on us, and Jagat continued in grave tone, "An attempt to prepare a sacrifice." All the sudden, I heard the door creaking, and we looked, it was Surendran, Khusboo, Jay, and Ranjita, coming out of the engine room, strutting towards the helm, and the switches besides it, they smiled, and our subject was drowned. We talked about the machines, and they informed that it was repaired now, and they started the machine, and it was working fine. They informed that the floods would subside by the end of the day, or by tomorrow, and we will be departing from this place. We left the cabin, and the sun was above us, but in few seconds, it was shrouded by murky clouds. Jagat patted at my back, he smiled, and went to his room.

Jagat and I were nervous, suspicious, and aware of goings-on, we did not speak about. I examined the boat, and there was no significant change. After a while, we had our lunch, and we were on the deck, enjoying the nature, basking in the wind. I watched Jagat surreptitiously, and he too. He seemed to be listening to something attentively. He kept about staring in the bushes, across the river, above in to the sky, and the openings among the trees. I could hear the pattering coming from the forest, and after a while, I retired to my room, and went in siesta. I woke up in the evening, it was twenty minutes past four. The clouds were still murky, and slight sun rays were emitting. My wife and I were walking, Jagat and Sesha were too with us, we were walking with us on the deck. While, the rest were busy in their chores, the winds were roaring, but we were enjoying the wind, as we were close to the nature. The incessant roaring, and banging were there, also the booming of the river continued. We were talking, and then, I could hear the tune of lugubrious quality. It seemed that, the tune was a blend of roaring wind, and the booming river. The region had suggestion of something sinister, and it was unwelcoming, and perhaps, this place has become alarming, and after a while, the sun sets in the west, signalling the end of the day. The moon began to rise among the nimbus clouds, and the light on the deck was on. The dinner was ready, and we were gobbling the dishes, later after doing the dishes, we were sitting on the deck chairs, talking, and checking our mobile phones, and the network was namby-pamby. I was lying on the deck chair, peering at the night sky, the stars, my wife was sitting next to me, and next to her was Sesha, followed by Jagat, and our friends. I looked at the bushes and trees near the banks, it seemed to stand densely together, it seemed that they were moving independently, and this could stimulate our imagination, something inexplicable, horror suggestions. They seemed to be rustling among themselves, moving and shaking oddly, but I would credit that to the wind, however, the wind had subsided, and cool breeze were blowing. The bushes seemed to be rustling violently, even though there were no strong winds, they seemed to be huddling near the banks of the river, and approaching our boat. Meanwhile, on the opposite side of the bank, the forests were immersed in darkness, but there too, the bushes seemed to be huddling, and they seemed like a living creature. As I looked at the forests, near our banks, the hostile forces of these regions seemed to grew nearer, and they seemed to be focusing on our boat, and particularly on us. I laughed at my feeling, I pish-posh it as my childish feeling, and absurdity, and this place can have a psychological impact, however, the enchanting of this place, seemed to have entered my very soul.
