Chapter 31: No one wins
Ridgedog's POV
I groan as I hold my head. I hadn't experienced the after effects of respawning before, and I have to admit, it didn't feel good. I try to struggle to my feet, but my body refuses to cooperate. The Yogscast are here, and so are my family, and Team Crafted, but...
"Tia?" I groan. "We don't know where she is" Ana sighs from across the room. Memories of how she died, how my whole family died flashed into my mind, and I glare around the room until I spot him, clenching his knees in the corner, his head down.
"You" I spit, standing up and wobbling slightly. The whole room is silent, watching us.
Deamon looks up wearily, somehow not fazed by my anger. "Me" he responds, letting his head slump down. I tremble with anger, starting towards him, relaxing a little when my demigod powers begin to flood back. Ana is in front of me as quick as a flash, grabbing my hands, and magic flows into my veins, soothing me, calming me down. But nothing can quench the anger, and I push Ana gently aside, going towards him until I stand over him.
"Why?" I spit. He looks up, smiling softly.
Crack.
My fist flies out, my immortal strength making his jaw crack. He grimaces, clicking it back into place.
"Why?" I yell.
"Maybe if you would stop hitting me, I wou-"
Crack.
My foot pushed harder on his leg, and he yells out as I break his bones.
"Tell me or I'll kill you" I snap, gripping him by his hair. "Ridgedog, calm down" Sepia says, gripping one arm, and Ellis grabs the other. "Why are you sticking up for him, he was the one who killed you!" I snarl, glaring daggers at Deamon. "Because we can deal with him later-if we kill him now Mexxy will just bring him back" Ana sighs.
"Not when I'm around" I hiss, but go to sit next to Robin and Ryan. Ryan looked scared, whereas Robin was crying silently, looking over at Deamon with hatred and shock in her eyes. "Shh, we're safe now" I smile, cradling both of them in my arms.
"I will tell you why when Tia comes back" Deamon says, wincing as he uses magic to heal his legs. I scowl, about to insist that he tells me now, but Robin hugs my arms protectively. "Where is Tia anyway?" Duncan asks from across the room. I open my mouth to reply, but the sound of a gunshot rung through the corridors.
I stiffen and I'm about to set off when Deamon appears out of nowhere, grabbing me tightly and talking rapidly into my ear. "Ridgedog, you and I have been friends for over 600 years. I don't think you want to but you need to trust me" he insists. I tremble, shutting my eyes. Should I trust him?
"If something goes wrong I will torture you forever" I growl, and sit back down beside my family, Deamon sat in the furthest corner in the room from us.
Tia's POV
"Cisco?"
He smiles weakly, glancing at the bleeding hole in his stomach where the bullet entered. He slides off the chair, trying to stand, but falls, and I run forward, catching him. He groans a little as I slide him to the floor, and I kneel next to him.
"What were you doing in Mexxy's chair?" I snap, more angry than sad. Cisco wasn't exactly innocent in all of this, was he? But, in the back of my mind, I knew he didn't deserve a death sentence.
"I was waiting for you. I knew you would come here" he smiles. He doesn't seem to be in too much pain, rather, he looked quite content. But I knew he was on a limited supply of life.
"I'll go get Mexxy" I say, knowing the king would heal his only friend. But Cisco shakes his head urgently. "It's fine, he'll be here in five minutes. I need to talk to you..." he says, trying to sit up.
I lean him back down. "Don't waste too much energy. I'll go get Mexxy and then we can talk" I tell him, pushing the gun away from me. He shakes his head again. "No. It's urgent..." he coughs, leaning against the desk, and wincing as he puts a hand over the wound.
"What do you want to talk about?" I ask impatiently, staring at the wound he covered. There was a steady stream of blood still flowing out of it.
"I'm your brother" he whispers.
For a moment, I stare at him in shock, mouth open, words refusing to form on my tongue.
"...H...how?" I gasp. He chuckles lightly, groaning in pain at the motion.
"I...I don't understand-you're a demigod!" I gasp.
"Demigods are not born. Demigods are children of the stars." Cisco smiles, glancing out of the window even though it was midday.
"I...I still don't understand" I stutter, staring at him with a frown.
"When two demigod parents want a demigod child, they go to the stars and ask the God, Notch, to bless them with a child. The two parents then use all of their strength to collect one star from the sky, bringing it to them. The star turns into a demigod child, their demigod child." Cisco explains.
"Why didn't Mexxy do that with me? And Liam? And Jerome?" I ask, trying to take in all this information.
"You were all born from the womb. Jerome was born to a woman who was half bacca-Mexxy did not know, so when his furry child was born he cast him away. Liam...well, he turned out mortal and no one knows why. And you...you were an accidental pregnancy. As you know already, Ridgedog killed your mother and you became mortal. That is how you were all created. Mexxy was tired of having mortal, bacca and quart god children-he wanted a demigod. So he found the right partner, my mother, and together they brought me into the world from the stars." he tells me.
"4 different women and only one could give him the right child...what happened to your mother?" I ask, trying not to focus on the blood flowing out from my dying brother.
"I don't know. Mexxy...Dad says she ran away. I found out she had been murdered by someone. No one knows who." Cisco sighs.
"So...you're Mexxy's only friend? His son?" I confirm. "Not his only friend, but his closest one, yes" he sighs.
"Why are you telling me all this now?" I ask. He shakes his head. "Because you deserve to know the truth" he sighs, groaning a little at the pain in his stomach.
"Oh hello" Mexxy's voice muses from behind me. I stiffen, turning round. He grins at me, wearing a crimson red coat with golden edges, his crown poised on his head precariously. I almost facepalm-of course Mexxy would be wearing his crown. I should of looked for the crown on Cisco's head...
"Why are you smiling for? Your son is dying!" I snap angrily. "I can bring him back to life again" he shrugs, sitting down across from us.
"Do we have any other siblings that you haven't told us about?" I ask angrily. What if I had a sister? Another brother? And who was my mother? I don't even remember her...
"Not that I know of, no" Mexxy smiles. His eyes...they look old all of a sudden. Wise. Somehow...nervous. Was something going to happen?
"What's going to happen?" I ask. The look in his eyes disappears and he raises an eyebrow, staring at me in confusion. "What do you mean?" he murmurs.
"You look nervous about something. Something is going to happen and it's not good for you" I frown, standing up and leaving Cisco on the floor. His breathing stopped whilst I was talking but Mexxy was already beginning to let his power flow into him.
"Indeed" he sighs, looking down. "And what is that?" I ask. "You'll find out, soon enough" he half smiles, bending down next to Cisco, panting as he heals him. He begins to breath again, the bullet I shot flying out of his stomach. I pick it up and toss it aside-I didn't want to see the blood on the bullet that I had caused to stain it.
Cisco sat up, groaning a little. Mexxy patted him on the shoulder as he stood up. Cisco smiles over at me, and I look down, consumed by guilt. I just shot my own brother. I shut my eyes, refusing to look at anyone when I feel arms go around me. My eyes open to see Cisco hugging me fiercely, smiling down at me. "It's ok sis, you didn't know" he whispers, kissing me on the forehead. I blink-it felt weird, this charmer who almost flirted with me when I first met him, who seemed so cocky and so like Mexxy-it all made sense now. He was so like Mexxy because he was Mexxy's son, and that is why we got on so badly.
"The world is saved because I am in it. Nothing can live forever. Even I can't stop death" Mexxy says, turning his back.
Cisco reaches to his belt and reveals a Golden Desert Eagle, ready loaded with three bullets.
"I have killed many, and I have saved many. I've been in this world for 700 years, and I have killed millions and saved thousands. Not enough to redeem myself" he continues, looking out of the window.
He looks me straight in the eye as I look at him in bewilderment, tugging the gun out and handing it to me.
"The world has been saved, but it will carry on, even if I wasn't there" he sighs, looking down.
I stare at the gun, realizing what I had to do. I raise the gun in the air, pointing the barrel at Mexxy's back, around the stomach area.
"In fact it would do better without me there." he chuckles, turning round. I stiffen as his eyes fall onto the gun. He doesn't look surprised, only smiles sadly.
"Out of all the people to kill me, I would of chosen you, my only daughter. Hell exists, but it is the place we live in now. Take me out of this world, my child." he whispers.
My hands tremble as I click the trigger. I shut my eyes, and push.
Boom.
Opening my eyes, Mexxy is still stood there, the gaping hole in his stomach beyond repair. Without realizing it, I drop the gun, and it skitters across the floor. But my thoughts aren't on that as I run forward to catch my falling dad, who groans, and lies back onto the floor.
"Oh God, I didn't mean to, I didn't..." I cry. I was so overcome by what I had just done. I had just shot my own father, for gods sake! Sure, he deserved to die, but not by my hands...
"Shh" he chuckles, still managing to smile as he presses a finger to my lips to stop me from speaking. "I should of died a long time ago anyway" he chuckles. "That's what Ridge said when he died" I half cry, half laugh. "We've both done terrible, terrible things beyond repair. Ridge has redeemed myself. My death...I won't be missed." he smiles.
"As stupid as this sounds, I'll miss you, you annoying, murderous, horrible person" I sniff, and he grins, though his breathing is becoming ragged now. "Me too" Cisco whispers, holding his dad's hand. Mexxy's head was on my lap, and I stroke the hair out of his eyes, those green, mysterious eyes.
"I'm off to join your mothers now. God knows what they'll say to me" he chuckles. I laugh a little through tears. "Tia...before I die...at my funeral...tell Ridge-" he stops to cough, blood trickling down his lips and I wipe it off for him. "Tell him...to wear a pink dress" Mexxy grins, and I laugh, smiling at my dad, dying in my arms.
"I know I mistreated you, hurt you, and have broken you beyond repair. But I wish I could of at least had a nice moment with you. For the few moments that were good between us, I thank you." he smiles, tears surpringly gathering in his eyes.
"I love you, my daughter. And you, my son. Tell Liam and Jerome too" Mexxy smiles, eyes beginning to flutter shut. "I love you too Dad" I whisper, tears dripping down my cheeks. "I love you dad" Cisco echoes, mouth trembling as he tried to hold in his tears.
I pull his head to my chest as my father breathes his last.
