~Chapter Two~

Previously on Immortality.

Wait!!! Who's coming.?" I yelled after her but she was already gone and I was left alone. This was all crazy. I had to get out of here.  So I did what she said. Held the hilt of the sword with both hands and the blade suddenly shot a powerful blue energy into the sky so high. I couldn't contain the power and so I fell to the ground. A few seconds later I got up and the environment had change. I was back in the museum with the blade in my hands. What was that all about. I placed the sword back into the stone and left to find Mia. Forgetting about everything that had just happened. Whatever it was.

TARTARUS
A beam of bright blue light struck the center of Tartarus, shaking it so hard even the titan moved.
Then it finally calmed down.
"What was that?" Ares asked.

"The sword. It's been found." Hades simply said.

~Chapter Two~

I was breathing so heavily I couldn't suppress it. You don't just walk from something like that. I tried so hard to control by breathing before knocking on the door.

"Hey you're done yet?" I asked Mia who sat at her desk, going through some paperwork.

"I'm almost done. You're right on time actually. Can you help me sort those files out? I need to know which ones are going to New York and which ones are staying." She asked.

"Sure." I said, trying to seem calm. She looked at me for a while.

"Are you okay?" She asked. Of course she could notice it. I've been with her all my life.

"Me? Yeah. I'm good. Absolutely fine here." I said trying to seem relaxed. I could tell I wasn't doing such a great job but she wasn't going to push me here.

"Okay? Let's get this done and we'd be out of here in no time." She said.

"About that? When are you leaving for New York?" I asked. She stopped what she was doing and turned to look at me.

"Tomorrow." She simply said.

"Tomorrow? You didn't say anything about tomorrow?" I said. Obviously I wasn't happy with the idea. "And when are you coming back?"

"Two weeks" she simply said, avoiding eye contact with me.

"Two weeks? Just great. And what am I supposed to do till then?" I asked.

"Don't be such a baby Derek, Cmon."

"I'm being a baby? You're leaving me for two weeks. I don't think babies can survive that long."

"Fine. You're not a baby. But don't act like one. I'm sure you can take care of yourself whiles I'm gone. You practically take care of yourself already anyway." She said in a soft voice. I wasn't gonna convince her to stay. That was for sure. Besides, it was business. I couldn't tell her to quit just because of me. That would be selfish. Perhaps she was right. Perhaps I was being a baby. On the other hand, I could invite Chloe over, now that Mia was leaving.

Chloe was my girlfriend. Sort of. I hadn't really asked her out yet, but I could tell she was hitting on me. And I was hitting on her. We just hadn't told each other yet. Don't judge me. It's never easy telling a girl how you feel.

"Fine. I guess you're right." I said softly.

"That's more like it." She said with a smile. "You're done with those?" She asked.

"Yeah." I confirmed and handed the files over to her.

"Thanks" she said and placed them in her file that she was gonna take home with us. I was trying to seem okay, but deep down in me, I knew very well I wasn't happy with Mia leaving. Most teenagers my age would be happy being left alone at home for that long. But not me. I actually liked it when my parent was around. And now she was leaving.

"Okay. I suppose that's all. Cmon. Let's go." She said and we left the museum.

As we walked out of the Museum to the car park, I spotted two figures. I couldn't really make them out but they were human. Boy and girl. They just stood there, looking at us. Mia of course didn't take notice of them. I didn't make it a big deal. Just some random people without manners i supposed. I got into the car and we drove off.

P.I.A
(Paranormal Investigation Agency)
Los Angeles.

"Report!!" The broad man spoke. His voice so deep, it echoed throughout the entire hall. His heavy boots sounded like an elephant stomping as he entered the room. There were a whole lot of people in the dark room, going about different operations but all connected with finding superhuman beings and hopefully capturing them. That is what the P.I.A was responsible for. They would run several tests on their subjects like they were lower life forms.

The room was dark. The only source of light was the numerous screens that were in operation.

"There's another one sir. Two actually. The event took place tonight at the Paul Getty museum. We suspect a teenager and a girl a bit older."
Jake reported, sitting before a semi circled desk, surrounded by screens.

"Get me visuals on the place. I wanna see what happened Jake." Lesner requested. He was very built. A mountain of meat. No wonder he was head of the P.I.A.

Jake quickly tapped a few keys on the keyboard and a video of what happened earlier at the museum popped up on the screen. All was quiet and still for a little while. Then all of a sudden, a bright blue light shot out of the roof of the museum for a few seconds and then disappeared. Strangely, the night security didn't take notice of this. A little while later, two people were spotted coming out of the museum and heading towards the car park.

"Freeze image." Lesner ordered. Jake quickly paused the video and Lesner took a long look before asking Jake to zoom in on their faces.

"Good. Now enhance image." Lesner said and jake quickly tapped a few more keys, enhancing the quality of the image to produce a clear enough image for him to see the faces of the two people that stepped out of the museum, moments after the supernatural incident.

"They look so normal, you would almost believe they are." He said in a soft tone as if talking to himself.

"Rabbit! Crowley!" He quickly called out. Two armed men stepped forward.

"Go undercover. Find them. Keep a close eye on them. Let's see what they're really up to. If you get compromised, capture them and bring them to base." He gave the orders.

"Yes sir!" They said in unison and left the base.

"Doctor!" He barked. A man in a white coat came forward to speak to him. He was in his mid forty's. He was a bit bald and wore square glasses. Typical for a doctor. Doctor Jacob Wesley. He worked for the P.I.A. He joined about six years ago and since then has been working on a top secret operation for the P.I.A that even members of the Agency knew nothing about. Only selected people knew what was going on.

He stood before Lesner with a tablet in his hand.
"How is the operation going?" Lesner asked.

"Everything is in good shape. It should be ready soon." Wesley replied with enthusiasm.

"Good. Make sure it's ready by the time we need it. Very soon we will apprehend them all." He said, looking at the two people who were frozen on the computer screen.

THE NEXT DAY
07:13 am

The loudest sound I had ever heard sent me jumping off my bed. It took a while before I could gather in my thoughts what was happening; Mia standing before me me with an air horn directly behind a bullhorn.

"What the fu.." she cut me off with another blast of the horns.

"Like fu..." Again she cut me off with another blast.
I opened my mouth to speak but she quickly raised both horns as a way of telling me -one more bad language and I'll blow your brains out.-

I gave up and kept mute.
"What's with the horns?" I asked.

"I came to wake you up. I asked you to wake up at five. It's seven now." She explained.

"Couldn't you just shake me or tap me or something?" I asked her.

"I could. But then I wouldn't be able to use these. And where is the fun in that?" She asked with a smile on her face.

"Why have you woken me up so early anyway? your flight doesn't leave for another three hours. There's still plenty of time." I told her.

"Not for you Mr. It's time to get up. Besides, I need you to go get some stuff for me." She said, as she yanked my hand, trying to get me off the bed. Of course I didn't move. I immediately threw myself back unto the bed.

"Just give me two more minutes." I said through the pillow. She immediately blew the horns on me once more. This time much louder.

"Okay okay I'm up." I laughed and so did she.
"Why do I have to get up so early anyway?" I asked.

"You're driving me to the airport." Mia answered.

"Right. That again. Don't you guys have like a company driver or something?"

"No we don't. Now stop whining and get up." She said, blew the horns on me once more and left the room.

"God, that girl can be something." I said and got off the bed, heading for the shower. In a little while I was downstairs. Mia sat on the couch playing video games as I descended the stairs. In front of her was a plate of bacon.

"Gee you wouldn't even wait up for me." I said from behind her.

"I would. You know I would. But I gotta be at the airport by nine. Plus you're delaying me as usual." She said without looking at me, with a mouthful of food and a PS4 controller in her hands."
"Hey, I need your help beating this level."She continued.

"What are you up against?" I asked, making my way to the fridge to grab some milk.

"Goblins. Twelve of them." She replied. While I loved kicking goblin ass with her in video games, I still wasn't okay having it in mind that she was still leaving me.

"Hey....." I said softly and went to sit beside her on the couch. She immediately handed me a controller.
".........do you really have to go?" I asked her once more. She paused the game to look at me.

"I know you don't like the idea of me leaving. But Derek I have to. You know I have to. That's the only way I can support us both." She pleaded with me in a soft tone.

"I know. And I probably sound selfish by now, but I'm just not used to being away from you." I said.

"I know okay, but it's just two weeks. I'll be back before you know it." She said comfortingly.

"Two weeks is not just. What do I eat till then?" I asked.

"I left plenty of food on the counter and the refrigerator." She instantly replied.

"What if the power runs out again?"

"I installed a back up generator yesterday."

"What if robbers break in?"

"Derek, this is one of the most secured and safest neighborhoods in California. Nothing like that is likely to happen. And even if it does, there's a baseball bat and pepper spray behind your door. I trust you know how to use them." She replied.

I was thinking of every excuse to get her to stay but none worked. I guessed I'd have to let her go then. One might think I was being childish. Truth is, I was very much connected to Mia. She had never gone so far away before. And I wasn't the type who liked making friends either. So this was hard for me.

I tried to play enthusiastically throughout the entire game but I was still very much sad. Although I didn't want her to see that.

We won the game after some time of playing and I needed some air so  I decided to go retrieve her package for her and use  the time to make myself feel better. Mia figured it out and allowed me, and so I stepped out of the house.

I walked some blocks away and got to the address. Ding Dong!!! I rang the doorbell. A thin looking guy opened up a little so I could only see his face and a little part of his body.

"Hi. I'm here for Mia's package? She asked me to come get it." I said.

"He scanned me for a while." Right. Gimme a sec. he said and closed the door.

"As I stood in front of the door waiting, I saw two men, dressed in black suits standing a few meters away from me by a pay phone. One pretended to be making a call and the other just stood there looking at me. I decided not to concentrate on them. A few minutes later, the skinny guy opened up again and handed me a small brown box. It was not heavy but contained something solid. Of course I didn't open it.

"Thanks!" I said and started walking away. The men in the black suits slowly started walking after me. Taking every turn I took.

Noticing this, I picked up my pace. They did same. I kept looking back, studying their every move before I suddenly felt a strong object hit me from my side, throwing me off my feet and crushing me further in front on the ground.

I lay there for a while before getting up. Upon getting up, I locked eyes with a little girl, no older than five. She held her moms hand and looked at me with widely opened eyes.

"Mom is he dead?" She quickly asked her mom.
"I don't know hunny." Her mom replied. "Are you okay young man?" She asked.

"Yeah I'm fine" I said, getting off the floor and brushing off the dirt on my clothes. Then I picked up the box again.

I looked around and was surprised. Had I just been knocked down by a cab and sent falling almost six feet away? Why am I not dead or suffered any injuries?

Did the cab really hit me or had I jumped.  And if I jumped, did I really just jump six feet away from a cab? No that wasn't possible.  As I went through my thoughts, trying to figure out what had actually happened, I spotted those two men in black. I quickly walked away and they quickly followed.

What did they want from me. I thought It would be dangerous if I led them home so I decided to take a different road. I quickly turned into an alley and begun walking faster. They followed me into the alley. At this point, nothing else had to convince me they were dangerous. I quickly took to my heels and I wasn't surprised when they did same. They came after me with full speed. I doubled up and turned back unto the road after taking another turn. It was at this point that I realized it wasn't just the two of them. They had a van and immediately came after me with it.

I quickly picked up my running pace. Four cars in front of me was another cab. I run faster and faster, looking behind me every now and then. I was surprised when I realized the van was way behind me. It was either the car was super slow, or I was running super fast. What was happening to me? As I looked back, another van quickly appeared in front of me, blocking my path. On reflex, I quickly jumped over it so high I felt like I was flying. Had I just jumped over a van? What was happening. I had to loose them and fast. I quickly turned into another alley running as fast as I could. The alley was big enough and so they followed me with the van. I run until I came to a dead end.
The wall was approximately eight feet tall. There was nowhere else to run. The van stopped a few meters behind me. Five men in similar black suits got down from it, holding some kind of electric rods in their hands.

Rushing through my thoughts, I found myself with only two impossible options. Either I fought all five of them and possibly got kidnapped, or jump over the eight foot wall which was just as impossible. But this was no time to debate on what was or was not possible. I had to act fast before my ass was fried. I had to jump. Yes it was impossible. But I had just jumped over a van. If I was able to do that, then I could do this.

I slowly took a few steps away from the wall to give me a little running distance. I stood still for a few seconds and took in a deep breath.  The men in black immediately got the idea of what I was planning to do and immediately took to their heels with their electric rods, coming to get me. I took another breath and instantly bolted off with high speed, heading straight for the wall. If this didn't work, I was toast. As I got closer, I doubled my speed. A few meters away, i leapt off the ground soaring high up into the air. As I approached the wall, I tucked in my knees, missing the wall by inches. I couldn't believe it. I had super speed and super jump. As I thought of how awesome this was, I totally forgot about what i was doing and crashed into the floor on the other side of the wall with a huge thud.

I did it. I just jumped over an eight foot wall and I could literally run faster than a speeding car. This was insane.
There would be enough time to enjoy my new found abilities, but for now I had to head on home. I quickly run back home to Mia. I wasn't gonna tell her about all this. She would totally freak out. So I decided to keep it to myself until she came back from her trip.

Once I got home, I handed the box over to Mia.
"What took you so long?" She asked.

"Walking." I answered. "Cmon, your flight is soon. We gotta go." I told her.

"Whoa. Slow down there. That's quite a change of spirit." She said surprised.

"Yeah. Walk did me a lot of good." I replied.

"See? I told you everything was gonna be fine." She said with a smile. Cmon." She said and I helped her with her luggage to the car.

"Oh I forgot one more thing." She said and run back into the house. A while later, she came out with her purse.

"Ready?" I asked.
"Yeah" she said and got into the passenger seat.

I got into the driver's seat and started the engine. The car hummed to life.

"You realize this is illegal right? I don't have a license." I said.

"Just shut up and drive." She said with laugher. I laughed with her and gently pulled out of the driveway. Soon we were on our way to the airport.
