Previously On Immortality

A few seconds before I could doubt my thoughts, what I feared happened. Both engines of the plane got caught up in massive balls of fire before a huge explosion tore away almost half of the plane. The other begun to fall out of the sky like a rock.

"MIA!!!" I screamed futilely as I watched the massive plane fall.

~Chapter 4~

My whole body felt numb. I couldn't tell between reality and fantasy.  The thought of Mia leaving me built up so much rage in me. No. She couldn't be dead. She had to be alive. They can't take her from me. As I got consumed by grief, it gradually turned into fury. I wasn't going to let them get away with this. With an explosive blast, I rocketed off the ground with so much force that it sent a shockwave so strong, it tossed cars of their tires. With so much speed, I ripped through the atmosphere, making a beeline  straight for whatever brought the plane down. Anger covered my senses as I gained more altitude.
I didn't care how fast I flew or how high I went. All I cared about was ripping those two things apart and making them suffer for what they had done.

As I got closer to the two objects, they became much clearer. They weren't planes or drones. They were humans. A male and female. They looked rather strange. They looked like they were some sort of Gladiators but from Ancient Greece if I wasn't mistaken. They wore armor. And just like me, they were flying. This was no time to debate what was or was not possible. I don't know how but I doubled my flying speed, flying insanely fast. As I got closer, I pulled my right hand back into a fist and with so much force, slammed myself into the male, causing such a huge shockwave as my fist connected with his Jaw, sending him flying many meters away.

One down, one to go I said to myself as I dashed towards the female. She had already been alerted by my presence and so was expecting me to make a move against her. Making an attempt to grab her by the neck, she countered it and grabbed mine instead. With great strength, she sent me flying at great speed spinning in the air. Calling on my power, I slowed myself down and shot myself up towards her with insane speed. She made an attempt to punch me in the face but I dodged as I speared her right in her stomach with so much speed she groaned. I instantly let myself free as she continued to fall. Then with so much speed, I shot myself down at her, drew a fist back and punched her in the jaw. Then a second a third and just when I was about giving her a fourth one, she blocked with her left hand and with her right, sent a punch straight for my face before grabbing me and spinning me around in 180 degrees.

Now I was falling and she was atop me. We were falling fast. She introduced a couple more blows to my face before kicking me down so I fell much faster. My body slammed into the earth with a huge thud. I felt every bone in me shatter to pieces. Or at least that's what should have happened. But I was okay. It hurt yes, but I wasn't injured.

Slowly they landed right In front of me as I got out of the massive hole my body had dug in the ground. Both of them walked towards me slowly. Isn't he supposed to be dead? I asked myself. I didn't know who these guys were, but they were going to die. That was certain.

I looked around and I saw that I had landed in the city near a fuel station. Quite a number of civilians run for their lives as others recorded what was happening on their smart phones. I could see the dark smoke from the plane crash some kilometers away which meant we were not too far away.

The sight of the smoke reminded me that Mia was on that plane and could probably be dead. The thought enraged me and I shot myself towards the man, grabbed him and threw him hard against an oil tank at the fuel station which went off in a massive explosion.

The female dashed towards me with a high punch which I blocked and countered with left kick to her side. She caught hold of my leg and whipped me straight into a nearby building. My body broke through the walls of the building with much force and I landed at the other side. Dust filled the entire room and so she couldn't see me.
She then entered the room, holding out a blade. I kept hidden behind a pillar as she surveyed the area.

Soon enough, the male joined her and they searched the place. What does it take to kill this dude.

I had to end this. Holding my breath, I slowly came out into full view and stood right behind them as quiet as possible. Then on my own cue, sent a powerful shockwave that sent them flying with force towards the opposite side. The force made the female loose grip of her blade. Before she hit the wall, I quickly grabbed the blade mid air and threw it in her direction, sinking it into her chest the moment she made contact with the wall.

The male watched as her partner died, pinned to the wall by the blade. His eyes opened wide with shock. It was as if he couldn't believe what had just happened. He looked back at me as I narrowed my eyes at him with full hatred and hard clenched fists.

He saw the anger in my eyes and ran out of the building. I immediately went after him. Once he was out, he bolted off the ground. I flew after him. I must have been moving insanely fast because I was catching up to him. He increased speed and went higher and higher. At this speed, we would be breaking the sound barrier pretty soon. There was suddenly an earth shattering boom as what I thought became reality. We had broken the sound barrier. I didn't care how high I flew. I just wanted to rip him apart.

I tore through the air as I pursued him. He wasn't gonna escape. I got closer and reached out for his feet. Holding on as tight as possible, I yanked him down with so much strength and punched him hard in the face. The force of the punch sent him flying. He managed to slow himself down before dashing at me with a strong punch which I caught with my right hand releasing another shockwave. With my left, I introduced a left punch to his face, a right, another left and finally a huge right. As he plummeted to the ground, I reached out my hand in a claw and he stopped falling mid air. I didn't know how I was doing that but this wasn't the time to ask questions.

I sent him flying close to me slowly. He wriggled, trying to break free.

I looked him straight in the eye with so much hate.

"Why did you do it." I asked quietly. He didn't say a word. I tightened my hold on him via my hand and he begun to scream out. I had no pity for this man.

"I won't ask again. She was all I had in this world and you took her from me. WHY DID YOU BLOW UP THE PLANE!!!" I roared at him. He looked at me with an angry face and said "You do not command me mortal!"

With this statement, I snapped his neck with a single flick of my other hand and sent him plummeting down towards the ground.

Hovering in the air, I made a 180 turn and spotted the dark smoke rising into the air from the crashed plane. I quickly flew to the location. Landing softly on the ground, there was fire and smoke everywhere. I couldn't see a thing. So I lifted myself, souring into the air and hovering over the wreckage so I could get a better view.

There was no point of entry. Using my ability, I ripped a hole in the middle of the plane and dropped in through it. I could feel the heat from the fire on my skin. At this point fire fighters and other rescue teams had begun to arrive on the crash site but that didn't bother me.

There were burnt people in the seats. The smell of burnt flesh caught up to me. But that was the least of my worries. I had to find Mia.

The smoke begun to choke me and I begun coughing so much but I didn't care.

"MIA!!" I cried out. No one answered. "MIA!!" I cried once more and a third but there was no response. I couldn't even find her body.

I collapsed to my knees as tears filled my eyes. Just then I heard footsteps behind me.
"Mia?" I said hopefully. I couldn't make out the person as my vision begun to get blurry.

Two hands grabbed me by each arm. They weren't Mia's. They were firemen. They begun to take me out of the burning wreckage but I fought back, trying to get back inside. I couldn't leave Mia. I had to find Mia. She was still in there. I tried to use my powers to send them off but I couldn't.  All my rage had been burned up.

"No! She's still in there!!" I said in tears as I fought back. I had grown weak all of a sudden as I knew the truth. Mia was gone and she wasn't coming back.
The pain bit my heart and I couldn't breathe. I had to find Mia. The thought of her no longer being alive made my heart ache so bad. She was the only thing I had left in this world and they took her from me.  Whoever was responsible for this was going to pay with their lives.

I felt weaker and weaker till I couldn't even walk any further. They helped me make it to an ambulance where they sat me down.

"Are you okay sir? You are very lucky to have survived that crash." One of the firemen said. I looked up at him but said nothing. He wasn't aware of the pain I felt at this moment.

"More hands!!!" One of the firemen called out from a distance away.

"You stay right here. We're gonna try to find more survivors like you." He said and attempted to leave but I held him by his arm. He stopped and looked at me.

"Please find her." I said.

"We will do our best." He said and rushed off. Mia couldn't be dead. She just couldn't be. Tears rolled down my cheeks and unto the floor like rain. I couldn't hold them back. This was all a nightmare. I would close my eyes and open them and I would be home with Mia just as always. I closed my teary eyes for a while and opened them. Nothing happened.

The fireman came back and laid his hand on my shoulder.
I could see the pain in his eyes.

"I'm so sorry. There were no other survivors but you. And if she was on the plane, then she felt nothing during her end." He said. I found a little comfort in that. At least she didn't suffer. But I still felt so much pain knowing she was gone. 

The fireman silently walked away as more tears rolled down my cheeks. I got off the ambulance and staggered away from the crash. The stagger gradually became a jog and the jog evolved into running. I ran as fast as I could. In no time, I was running as fast as I was earlier today when the men came after me.

Feeling my power returning to me, I blasted off the ground with tremendous speed, going insanely fast. Wind whipped across my face as I tore through the sky. I wanted to get as far away as possible from the crash. Perhaps that would make me feel better. I doubted. Mia was always going to be in my mind and in my heart.

After some minutes of flying, I found an empty beach. The sun was beginning to set. I landed on the beach. The cold breeze hit against my skin and through my violet hair. I had stopped crying but my heart was still heavy. I found no meaning in life anymore and for the first time in my life I felt so alone. Life made no sense to me.

I lay down on the sand looking up towards the sky. The dying sun hid behind the waves and darkness was soon approaching. After lying there for some hours I decided to head home. I didn't want to fly anymore because I was closer to the city. And so I decided to walk. With both hands in my pockets and my head low, I walked the streets. Paying attention to no one. The only thing that remained on my mind was Mia.

I couldn't even feel my body getting tired. Was this how lonely my life was going to be now? After almost half an hour of walking I came to a familiar neighborhood. I was back home. I looked over at the driveway and realized Mia's car was missing. It was then I remembered I had left it at the airport. I would go back for it later. Right now I was way too depressed to go anywhere near the crash.
I came up in front of the house and entered. I stood in the living room, and looked around.

I could still feel her presence in the room. I walked upstairs to my room and lay on my bed looking up at the ceiling. I couldn't think of nothing else but Mia. I felt exhausted and turned to take a little rest. Perhaps I'd feel better in the morning.

As I turned, I spotted the box Mia had made me go for on my bedside table. It had Happy Birthday Kiddo written on it in ink. My eyes widened and I immediately sat up. I opened it up and it was her fathers wrist watch. She had lost her dad long ago and this was the last thing she had of him.

And she had just given it to me as a birthday gift. But wait. It wasn't my birthday yet. I quickly took my phone to check the calendar and realized it had a badly cracked screen. It was of no use to me this time. Must have happened during the fight.

So I checked the calendar on the wall and realized my birthday was just a week from now. And she wasn't going to be back until two weeks so she obviously left this, knowing that.

I took out the wrist watch and under it in the box was a note. I took it out and unfolded it.
It read......

Hey numnut,
Yeah I'm not going to be back in time for your birthday. And I really wanted to cuz it's your eighteenth birthday. I was really hoping I wouldn't miss this one. You've got to forgive me kiddo. And I owe you big time. You're probably grinning at this thought right now. Enjoy it whiles it lasts twinkle toes. I'll have my revenge. I do hope you like your birthday gift. You probably wouldn't accept it if I gave it to you in person so this is an advantage for me. No returns. I just want you to know, I may not be there to celebrate it with you but I'm always with you and you are my little troublemaker. *I laughed a little at this point*. ....and I love you so much. I'll always be with you deep down there in your stubborn little heart. Have a great birthday kiddo. I'll make it up to you when I get back. Stay safe. Lots of love.

I was left with a smile on my face after reading the note. Somehow that made me feel better. But it also made me miss her a lot and also sad because she wasn't coming back. I put the wrist watch on and fell back on the bed. I closed my eyes and all that I thought of was Mia. I was really going to miss her.
