Previously On Immortality

I was left with a smile on my face after reading the note. Somehow that made me feel better. But it also made me miss her a lot and also kinda sad because she wasn't coming back. I put the wrist watch on and fell back on the bed. I closed my eyes and all that I thought of was Mia. I was really going to miss her.

~Chapter Five~

"IMBECILES!!!" Hades cried as the souls of his two children came to Tartarus to report their failure. They had failed to complete their task and this built rage in hades.

"Tell me zagreus. Is the mortal world far too powerful that just one mortal is able to take on two gods, and bring death upon them.?" Hades questioned.

"Forgive us father, he overpowered us by strength and rage. He took us by surprise." Melinoe answered.  Hades gave her a stern look.

"I asked only one thing from you. Was that too much?" He asked in a soft fatherly tone. "Perhaps I asked too much of you." He continued.

"We beseech father. For the mortal had great strength and power. One that could match Ares himself in combat." Zagreus said. Hades remained silent for while and turned away from them. Zagreus and Melinoe stood still, awaiting mercy from their father. But hades had run out. He turned towards them and opened wide his hands so his chest was vulnerable.

"You are of no use to me." He said.

He narrowed his eyes at them in disgust and before they knew what was happening, he had drained their souls into himself.  An act that only made him stronger.  They had disappointed him. But in their disappointment, there was a bit of useful news. A mortal was fighting back. The first time in a millennia that a mortal had fought back against a God and managed to strike a deadly blow.  As much as it scared him, it pleased him. If a mortal could be powerful enough to put a god to death. Then perhaps the cosmos had a fighting chance. One that served in his favor. For if Ares was to fall at the hands of a mortal, he would take that which he has long yearned for. His soul. This thought pleased him.

Hades decided not to tell Ares of this discovery. For he would be weary and that could bring down all he had planned.

He had to find another way to retrieve the sword.  Someone more than a match for the overpowered mortal.  All in good time.

MIA!! I yelled as the plane plummeted down in flames. I flew so fast, trying to reach it. I couldn't save everyone but I could save her. I wasn't gonna let her die. I increased flying speed but I wasn't fast enough. The nose of the plane crushed the ground with a huge explosion as the flames raised up high into the sky. I couldn't stop myself in time. The flames wrapped around me. I could feel my flesh burning.

"Derek!!!!" I heard her voice. She was somewhere in there in the flames. I was in so much pain but I wasn't gonna abandon her. Not this time. She screamed so much as she tried to grab me.

"Hold on!!!" I said as I tried reaching for her hand. The heat was unbearable. Just then I saw them. The ones who crashed the plain. They stood in the flame laughing. Hate boiled in my heart. They grabbed Mia and plunged her further into the flames.

"NO!" I cried and there was suddenly a second explosion. Far massive than the one that occurred before.

I could hear her scream from far away.

"MIA!!!" I screamed and jumped out. Sweat dripped down my body as I stood in my room. It was dark everywhere. My body shook as I clenched my fists. I exhaled and sat back on wet bed. It was a dream.

Pain immediately bit my heart and I remembered all that had happened. Mia was gone. I checked the time on my bedside table and it was only 11:00pm.

I ran my hands through my hair and got off the bed, heading for the washroom. My clothes were wet with sweat and I needed a shower.

I took off my wet clothes and jumped in the shower. I felt the cold water on my body. It felt relaxing.

A while later I was out. I threw on Black pants with a white t-shirt and a blue jacket.

I had to go for a walk. There was so much going on in my mind I didn't know what to do. The day hadn't even passed and Mia's memories were still fresh in my head. I needed a place to think and this wasn't it. There were simply too many memories here. I had to get out of here for a while.

I went to the living room in search of the keys. That's when I remembered I had left the car at the airport. Just great. I was going to walk again. Of course I could fly which was great and all. But I really didn't feel like using my abilities at the moment. Plus I didn't want to attract any unwanted attention. I was just going to be normal.

I grabbed the door knob and BOOM, a huge explosion threw me many meters back, sending me flying across the huge living room. I crushed the stone wall with huge force and fell to the floor with a big thud. The pain shot through my back. It was unbearable. My sight got blurry and I felt dizzy. There was a loud tingle in my ear and I couldn't hear properly. My entire body hurt.

I groaned in pain as I raised my head to look at the door that had been blown to smithereens. I couldn't make out what was happening. My Vision was still blur. I could hear heavy boots run in. I closed my eyes and shook my head a bit. I opened them and my eyes started adjusting to the environment. I saw about ten men with guns standing all around. They looked like swat officers but they weren't. Nothing on them showed they were swat. But there was one thing that I took notice of. The letters P.I.A were boldly written in white on their black vests.

P.I.A? What was that. And what did they want with me.

Slowly I got up to my feet. Anger boiled within me. Did they just blow my fucking door?
Just then I saw two men enter the house through the huge hole they had created with the bomb. My eyes widened. It was the same men that had chased me earlier today. I immediately narrowed my eyes towards them.
I was done running. I needed answers.

"Who are you and what do you want from me?" I asked in an angry tone.

"My name is Jeremy. You can call me jerry. These are my people and we are P.I.A. My agency has found interest in your.....condition and we would be more than grateful if you would allow us run some....tests on you. If you would be so kind to be silent and comply with us and we'd make sure you are unharmed." The first man said with a cunning smile.

"Ask me nicely." I said, clenching my fists.

"I did ask you nicely. Now you wouldn't want me to be rude. Would you?" He asked. "If you did, I would have to......take you." He continued.

"I'd really like to see you try." I said. Getting prepared for whatever. He realized this and smiled wryly.

"Now son, we don't need to get violent with each other. Unless you force me to. There's the easy way, and there's the hard way. I recommend you choose the easy way. That will be beneficial to you." He said.

"Go fuck yourselves." I said. He dropped the smile and looked at me.

"Have it your way then." He said, almost like a whisper before stepping back. The men formed a line in front of him. They cocked their heavy guns and pointed them at me. The others took out taser rods that crackled with enough electricity.

"Derek Bryan. You have just three seconds to surrender, or we will be forced to take you." One of the soldiers said. "One....Two" he begun to count.

"Three!" I said and sent a powerful shockwave in their direction, blowing off almost half the number together with a big portion of the building. The remaining soldiers immediately opened fire. I quickly raised my hands on reflex to block the bullets. That was dumb. For a few seconds I felt nothing touch my body. Eye opened my eyes and I was amazed. All the bullets had stopped mid air.  This was amazing. I could literally stop bullets. Sweet.

The mouths of the soldiers had dropped in awe as hundreds of lead bullets floated right in front of my chest. I released my grip on the bullets and they clattered to the ground. They quickly begun reloading. But before they could get ready, I flicked my hands at them, slamming them into the wall on my left with my ability. It came crushing down on them as they fell unconscious.

That would hold them.

I stepped out the building and my heart skipped for a second. These guys really don't give up. Before me was an army of PIA soldiers. No less than thirty, with some kind of special weapons that they all had pointed at me.

Jeremy stood there in his black suit and dark shades with a wicked smile on his face. I wondered why he would wear shades in the middle of the night.

"You asked for it boy." He said to me.

"You are really gonna do this here?" I asked him. "There are civilians in the perimeter. You wouldn't want any harm to come to them. Now would you?" I added.

"As a matter of fact, I don't really care. And there's nothing the government can do about it. I mean think about it. News breaks out that there was a supernatural causing chaos in the city.  The PIA fights to capture it and win. There are a few casualties. And I say the fight was brutal. It's your words against mine. Who do you think they'll believe. The supernatural? Or the hero?" He spoke.

"You're no hero. You're willing to sacrifice the lives of many. And for what? Mere recognition." I snarled.

"Recognition?" He laughed. "Son I think you're confusing power with recognition." He said with another smile.

"Careful what you wish for Jeremy, You don't know what I can do to people like you." I snarled again. He crossed his hands on his chest with a smirk.

"Show me." He challenged. "TAKE HIM!!" He ordered.  Three of the soldiers advanced towards me.

"You asked for it." I said before dodging a blow from the first soldier, replying with a hard right punch straight to the face that sent him flying like he was nothing.
The other two came towards me. I quickly clapped my hands, sending a powerful shockwave that threw them off their feet's together with a few more.

"Fire!!!" I heard Jeremy order and the rest of them opened fire on me. There were bullets swarming in from every direction. Using my speed, I sped out of the way, moving so fast they could hardly see me. The bullets made contact with the building, causing more damage to it.

A few of the neighbors had already begun screaming and leaving the area. I had to get out of here. Reaching for my ability, I stomped so hard on the ground, releasing a huge shockwave that spread radial throughout the entire area, knocking down most of the soldiers. Without wasting time, I rocketed off the ground, ripping through the atmosphere but not too high so they could see me. I had to get them away from the city.

"After him!!" Jeremy yelled at his men. They quickly got in their cars and sped after me. It was working. I needed to get them out of the city. Somewhere nobody would get hurt if I decided to break their bones.

Just as I flew over the buildings at normal speed,heading for the outskirts of the city? The wind around me got stronger suddenly. I heard a loud roar behind me. I turned to look and it was a chopper. It was gaining on me fast. We were almost out of town. I increased speed and the chopper did same. A few meters below me I sighted a clearing in a nearby forest. I quickly made a nose dive, heading for it. I landed gently on the ground. I quickly scanned the area. It was a huge clearing. The trees stood tall in a circle around me. The moonlight shone bright on the clearing, leaving the trees in darkness. I quickly dashed into the woods and hid behind one of the trees, using the darkness as cover.

In a few seconds, the chopper was right above the clearing. It shone light unto the ground in search of me. Slowly it descended to land in the wide space. Jeremy's team soon arrived. The soldiers stepped down from their trucks in teams, raising their guns to eye level as they turned left and right, searching for me.

Five more soldiers descended from the chopper. And joined the others. They were everywhere. I didn't make a sound. Jeremy wasn't with them. Wise move.

"Spread out. Find him!" Their captain ordered them. " Be on high alert. He could be anywhere." He added. The soldiers advanced into the woods, flicking on the flashlights that sat on their guns.

Three soldiers walked towards my direction. I stood with my back against the tree as they got closer. I didn't make a move. I could hear their footsteps as their heavy boots stepped and broke twigs, crushing leaves and others beneath their feet.

If there was one thing I learnt from gaming with Mia all the time, it was to use stealth to take out as many enemies as possible till there was just a number I could take on. I felt footsteps very close to me now. Slowly they walked into the woods past my tree on either side of me. Two on my right and one on my left. I remained silent as they walked past me and advanced into the woods. I focused my energy on the one behind. Using my ability, I reached out my hand towards him into a claw, grabbing hold of his neck so he wouldn't make a sound.

I slowly tightened my grip around his neck as he suspended before me. He was choking. A few seconds later her went unconscious and I slowly dropped him on the ground with my ability.

The other two realized they had decreased in number and quickly turned around to see their colleague unconscious on the floor. They quickly begun pointing their guns in all directions but couldn't find me as I had moved silently from my former position. After a few seconds, they lowered their weapon and rushed to their colleague.

I slowly landed behind them taking a quiet breath, I smashed both heads together with my ability and they fell unconscious too.

Three down, countless more to go.

I could see light approaching. This was going to take forever. No more stealth. I hid behind another tree. I peeked and there was four of them heading towards my direction, holding their guns at eye level. I waited for the first three to walk past. When the last one was in range, I grabbed the barrel of his gun, kicked him in the groin before smashing his face with the weapon. The others immediately turned around. I quickly threw the gun hard at the head of the first before sending a shockwave at the other two. They flew off their feet's and crushed into a huge tree.

See? That was fast.

"THERE!!!" One soldier yelled. They had been attracted to the noise.

"Open fire!!!" The captain ordered. The immediately opened blind fire in my direction. Using my speed, I zoomed out of the way to their side and sent another powerful shockwave at them, knocking most them off their feet and crashing them further away to the ground. If I could literally dodge bullets, I must be way faster than sound at this point. This was insane.

There was still a great number left. And not all those I had blown away had passed out.

They turned their attention towards me and opened fire again. I quickly stopped all bullets mid air and dropped them to the ground. I really didn't wanna kill these people. But they were making it harder and harder for me.

They had families and I knew what it meant to loose a parent. In my current situation I knew all too well and I didn't want their families to feel that kind of pain. The only thing I could do to stop them was to knock them out. It'll hurt but they'll live.

As they prepared reloading their guns, I zoomed towards them, knocking out four of them in less than a second. I was loving my new found abilities.

A soldier came at me from behind with a right punch. I caught the hand with my back facing him, elbowed his stomach before introducing a huge punch to his face, breaking his helmet. I was done with him.

At this time, the others had been able to reload their guns and were ready to fire. Realizing this i stomped hard on the ground, sending a massive force of shockwave rippling through the earth and knocking them off their feet once more. As they fell, they lost grip on their weapons. Using my ability, I grabbed all the weapons and crushed them. Now they were defenseless. Before I could think otherwise, the armored vehicles released fire on me with their heavy guns. I zoomed off, dodging the bullets. They couldn't see me but the dust I left as I run gave away my position. And so they continued to release fire. I should be able to knock that vehicle upside down from here with my ability. But I wasn't going to take that chance of being shot. So I dashed off and stood right behind both armored cars. I stretched forth my hand in attempt to flip them over.

I could feel my body getting heavier as I put in more energy. The vehicles were heavy and it took a lot out of me. Finally they began lifting off the ground. I could hear several metals creak as I lifted them with my ability.

With one big push, I flipped them upside down. That took a lot out of me. I was going to have to get used to this if I was going to be tossing heavy vehicles up and down.

I looked around and some of the soldiers had been knocked out by the shockwave I unleaded earlier. But a few still made it to their feet. The captain included. He walked towards me and took out what seemed like a rod. Except it was an electric one. Soon they all took out the same. About fifteen soldiers remained.

Fifteen soldiers, fifteen taser rods. I could take them.

Between me and the army of fifteen was a few meters.
I locked eyes with the captain and he narrowed them at me.
Then he immediately took off, heading towards me. The fourteen soldiers took off after him. Cmon man. No fair. Ah well. Guess I'd have to knock them out too. I prepared to engage. I could feel my power rushing through my veins as I prepared to launch myself at them.

Just when I was about moving, a huge bolt of bright energy hit the ground between me and the oncoming soldiers, so bright I was blinded. It hit the ground with so much force it shook the very earth beneath my feet. The force of the blast sent me flying backwards and so were the soldiers. They probably had been knocked out.

Dust covered the entire area. Slowly I got up to my feet. I felt so weak all of a sudden. That blast was massive. Then I spotted something within the dust.

It was a man and a woman judging by their silhouette shapes. Finally the dust cleared and I saw them. My eyes widened in shock.
