Reality; a thing that exists in fact, having previously only existed in one's mind.

I wake up in my bed, light from my foggy window beaming down onto my face.
I slowly move the blankets off of me and press my bare feet onto the shaggy rug of my room. Everything seems like I'm in water, not like wet but the way I'm moving, like there was pressure pushing back.
I walk down the stairs and I see my family standing with smiles.
"Good morning Winnie, how did you sleep?" My mother asks me.
"We, we were in a car crash." I look to my father and he shakes his head.
"No, no darling, we were home last night."
I nod slowly and look around, I look to my brother and he gives me a hug.
I awkwardly embrace him back and look into his eyes, green. No, Jasper's eyes are blue.

White light suddenly blinds me, people ran around talking frantically.
"She's up!" I hear a high pitched voice say, I sit up groggily and look around, the groggy feeling still there.
"What is this?" I mumble.
"How are you feeling?" A man in a white coat asks me.
"Um tired, groggy, why does it matter, this isn't real." I say

My brother comes up to me "what do you mean?" I look at his eyes, blue.

"This feels like a dream." I breathe out.
---------------------------------------------

I was told I have a disease, a disease, how the hell does getting in a car accident give me a disease!
I was furious, fuming.

"You won't know what is real or what is a dream all the time." The doctors told me
I so badly wanted to scream at them, tell them they should fix me, to do their freaking job.
But I didn't. I choked back the tears, the harsh words, I wasn't that person, I couldn't be that person.
I went on with my life, continuously hearing the 'I'm so sorries' 'I would trade places with you if I could.'

Well you can't! Don't tell me your sorry I've heard it enough and I don't need any more pity! I'm not crippled so give your condolences to the people who need them.

That was the way it was for the longest time, I started noticing more things though, like the eyes I saw that night, everywhere, those same glowing eyes.
My brother became my anchor, my best friend. "Count your fingers." He would tell me "if there are more or less than ten, you're in a dream." I always did.

My brother was never the one to sugar coat things whenever I asked him about the eyes I saw he would quickly and bluntly tell me nothing.
And here's where we are now.

I'm in my room listening to music, it was about 12 at night, I'm afraid to go to sleep, I'm afraid that every time I close my eyes I won't be able to come back, I'll see that poor Irish boy again, apologizing endlessly at the hospital, he had just moved to America, he got the sides of the road mixed up, his scratched and twisted face haunting me.

I move to my window, sitting on the sill.
I drew the basic shapes on my fogged window, cold to the touch.
I wiped the condensation of the glass and looked out at my small little village.

I pressed my forehead on the glass and breathed out, my breath visible to me even though I was inside. Bright orange appeared in front of my vision. The small dot illuminated the sky as I tilt my head in confusion. Fire?

Jasper bursts through the door and grabs my wrist pulling me out of the room.

"Ow Jasper that hurts." I whimper, I look up at his face, it was emotionless and deadpanned.
We get to the front of the house and I can see the light now, the fickle flame growing.
I heard screams, cries for help and... barks? Growling?

"Winter listen to me, I need you to run, run as fast as your legs can go, be careful for me." He kisses my forehead
"But-"
"I messed up Winter, and you can't get hurt for it so run."
And I did.
