5. the world's edgiest family man as a father-to-be

(A/N thanks so much for the request!)

- You get that it's a beautiful thing and all, one of nature's greatest miracles, but, God, being pregnant sucks sometimes. In the early months, it was an annoying volley between being nauseous and ravenous, not to mention the fear of what would happen in the off chance that you lost the baby. Now, about four weeks away from your due date, you're lucky enough to know that your kiddo is thriving, but you're also rather uncomfortable. Your back hurts, all the food that sounds really good to you is stuff that you can't have, and you never thought you'd miss seeing your own feet this much.

-Mercifully, you just happened to end up with the greatest husband in the whole world. Trent is insistent on taking care of you, catering to your every whim to the point where you're probably more worried about him than he is about you. He does everything, often before you can even think about asking: the dishes are always washed and put away, the laundry folded, everything orderly in a way that is uncharacteristic for the both of you.

-  Everyday household duties are just the tip of the iceburg. One day, after a commercial for some steakhouse's dessert special struck your fancy, you came home from work to find that he had baked you a huge chocolate cake out of nowhere. This man, who can barely wrap his head around how a potroast works, had succesfully made you a whole damn cake.

- As usual, in the midst of the joy, he's prone to his anxious quirks. In his rather new state of health consciousness, he's convinced you to try some kind of off-the-wall things for the benefit of the baby. You wake every morning, without fail, to a warm cup of herbal tea placed at your spot at the table. Though it's cold comfort in comparison to the coffee that you are so desperately missing, he makes it up just the way you like your other hot beverages. You give him a sweet kiss as a thank you each and every time, touched that he takes the time to notice even the smallest things about you.

- Feeling the baby kick has to be one of your favorite things to come out of the whole experience. It's just so amazing to you, this beautiful proof of something that always makes you so happy, even when the kicks are hard, bordering on uncomfortable. Even that makes you feel good, if you're being honest; the kid's energetic, determined, making you proud already.

- Trent's just as amazed by this as you are; he's there with you whenever he can be, telling the baby that yes, you are paying attention, there's no need to get mad at you. This makes you smile; he didn't hesitate to start talking to the baby as soon as you felt the first kick, so ready to share all that love that he's already so full of with your child. His hand placed constantly on your belly is reassuring for you, too. You tell him just how great he is already whenever you're in the midst of these moments. He thanks you, though he often follows it up with: "are you sure we aren't suppose to be paying Mozart or something?"

- He's gentler with you now than he ever has been before, making sure that you're comfortable and well-rested. He massages your sore back and puffy feet, helping you with your socks and shoes when need be, despite your groveling. ("You don't have to be that proud, babe," he says whilst working at the laces. "You aren't me.")

- Though he clearly has no idea what it feels like to literally be growing another person inside of you, he knows how important it is that you feel comfortable in your own skin, especially when it seems that so many things about you are changing with every passing day. He compliments you more than ever, which moves you more than he knows. He isn't just trying to make you feel better, either; he genuinely thinks that you are so beautiful, in a practically ethereal way. You seem so magical, with your glowing skin and soft curves, peaceful smiles and laughter, overflowing with joy. You make him feel so lucky, and he knows that this kid will be just as lucky to have you as a mother as he is to have you as his wife.

- Every now and then, you'll catch him getting caught up in the emotion of it all, too. It happens at random times, usually the quiet, peaceful ones, as the two of you tidy up the kitchen after breakfast, or in bed late at night, after he assumes you've already fallen asleep. It makes him tear up a little bit sometimes: how much he loves you, how he already loves this amazing little life made up of parts of both of you, both good and bad, though exactly what those parts entail remains to be seen. It amazes him how this is his life, that he scraped by during those horrible times not so long ago and ended up here. It's too good to be true, really; everything about you is so good, and he wants to be just as good for you.

- Sometimes, these feelings cause the dam to break, leaving him crying as if he was the hormonal one. You never leave his unasked questions unanswered for long; time after time, you wipe his tears away, lips softly brushing his, letting him know that he is so good already, maybe even better every day. Afterwards, you smile at him, bringing his hand down to rest on your belly, waiting for the next flutter, yet another reassurance. The two of you stay like this, just waiting, realizing just how beautiful of a place this world can be, after all.

(Kinda want to do a part 2 to this.... what do you guys think?)
