It had been a tiring day for Newt. Niffler had escaped again, and his mind was blurred and hazy.
As he stumbled into his apartment, the only thing--or person--on his mind was Y/N. He missed her sweet smile, her laugh, and the ways her eyes shone.
She was the only highlight of his day, even though he had only met her a month ago. And every second, everyday, he thought of her.
Yes, he loved her. And he was sure that nothing would ever come between them.
"Hey, Newt," a soft voice said nearby, causing him to jump.
"Geez, Y/N, you scared me," he laughed, but this time, she didn't join in.
"Newt, we--we need to talk," Y/N said, her eyes serious.
"Y/N, can we keep this for later? I'm kind of tired..." his voice trailed off, when he saw how grave [a/n: ahaha that pun] the situation was.
He hung up his coat, and turned back to her, "Sure, sweetheart, what is it? Never mind about that, this is obviously important."
Y/N whispered, "I think that you should sit down, Newt."
Newt was confused. Y/N looked so sad, and he hated seeing her in that state. She was usually cheerful, and all, but this, this was different. He listened to her, and pulled up a chair.
You see, Newt was a good man who didn't intend to do what he did. As mentioned before, his mind was blurry. It was also playing tricks on him that day.
"What is it, dear?" he asked gently, looking at her with soft eyes.
Her hands were trembling, as she murmured, "Newt, we've been dating for one month, and I think that you should know this." A small tear trickled down her cheek.
"Don't cry, Y/N. Just tell me."
"Newt, I--I'm a beast," Y/N blurted out.
A long silence filled the room, causing Y/N's heart to nearly stop.
Suddenly, Newt laughed. "Y/N, this is outrageous! I would--"
"He was right, I guess," Y/N whispered, as Newt's face contorted to shock.
"No, no, Y/N, I didn't mean it like that! What I meant--"
"It's too late, Newt. You're scared of me."
"What I meant was--"
"Stop, Newt. Stop lying. We both know that you were so scared that one second, but now you're just making an excuse," she spat.
"Will you just let me explain!" Newt yelled, standing up. The chair behind him fell down. "I didn't mean what you think I meant!"
"Sure, sure," Y/N scoffed, and made her way to the door.
"Y/N, stop this. You know that I didn't mean it like that!" he said in exasperation.
"Goodbye," was the only thing she said, and then she was gone. It was like she was evanescent.

"Tina, I need to talk to you," Newt said through the phone.
"Mm-hmm?" she replied. "What's the subject that's concerned?"
It was a hectic day at work, and all she wanted to do was to take a nap. But there she was, talking to the man she once loved. But their love was fleeting--he had found himself another woman. However, she didn't feel contempt to either of them, because the woman was Y/N, one of the sweetest people she knew.
"Tina, this is me. There's no need to be so formal," Newt sighed.
"You asked me for help. It's my job to be formal. Now, what's the topic?"
"It's Y/N."
"Newt, is something wrong?"
"Yes," he said, running his hand through his auburn hair in frustration, "I know that I'm not supposed to tell you this, but--but she's a beast."
Tina was not surprised. Y/N had told her this before. "And?"
There was no reply, which caused Tina to become furious. "So you basically told her that she's not a living being?"
"No! She just thought that I did, that's all. I said, 'that's outrageous, Y/N! I would never let anything like that come between us!'"
Tina frowned, on the other line. "And what's wrong with that? It doesn't seem very offensive."
"She cut me off before the second sentence," he groaned.
"You didn't ask her to let you explain?"
"I tried to," Newt said, and a humorless laugh escaped him, "But she just wouldn't let me. She cut me off. That's the thing about Y/N--she takes offense at even the littlest of things." Then, before Tina could retort at this, he added, "Of course, it's probably because of her past."
"Poor thing," Tina sighed in sympathy. "Abused--"
"Yes, yes, I know the story," he said impatiently.
She frowned again, and asked, concerned, "Newt, are you alright?"
"Sorry," Newt said, and suddenly, he sounded like he was going to cry, "It's just that I miss her so, so much... And she's all alone out there, because of my carelessness."
If Tina didn't know better, she would've felt a pang of jealousy, but Newt and Y/N were Tina's friends. "And, I presume, you need my help getting her back?"
"Exactly, Tina. You're a genius."
"Thanks. Now, give me a day or two, and I'll try to get some information on her," she said, tucking a strand of dark hair behind her ear, and waving at her attractive co-worker who was sitting across the room, smiling at her. He winked, causing her to blush.
"Tina?" Newt's voice jolted her back to her call. "You still there?"
She blushed. "Yeah. I'll get it to you soon," Tina replied, looking down when the man caught her eye again. She added, "Oh, and, Newt?"
"Yes?"
"Try not to put too much pressure on yourself. Y/N's a smart woman--she'll know that you're perfect for her. And now, I've got to go on a date." As soon as Tina said these words, she regretted it.
"Date? My goodness, does Queenie know yet?"
"Maybe."
"Okay, I'll tell her!"
"No, Newt, um, I would prefer--"
The call was ended.

Y/N took a deep breath before knocking. She knocked gently, since she knew that Craig didn't like to be disturbed with loud sounds.
The door opened, revealing the handsome golden-haired male. He grinned, but saw how sad she looked. His smile disappeared.
"Sweet, what's wrong?" Craig asked, leading her inside. He shut the door behind her, as she sat on the couch, with a grim expression on her face.
"You were right," was all that she said.
"Oh," he said softly, "Newt?"
Tears began to form in her eyes, as she nodded. "He's toxic," she whispered, "And he'll never accept me for who I am."
Slowly, he put his arms around her, and she melted in the hug.
But unknown to her, he grinned with malice, as soon as she was facing away from him.

"Okay, Newt, so, I found this guy named Craig Thomas, and a few days ago, he wrote a letter to Y/N, saying not to trust you," Tina said in the phone.
The other line was silent.
"Newt, are you listening?"
"Yeah, yeah. I just remembered that when we had that fight, she said, 'he was right' or something like that."
"Oh," Tina sighed, but then examined another letter. She froze.
"Tina?"
"Newt, you've got to hear this! This same guy wrote another letter to the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures, calling Y/N a dangerous beast."
"What?" Newt exclaimed.
"Oh goodness," Tina whispered, "They're coming tomorrow to his house to take her away. You better hurry, Newt."
Newt didn't need to be told twice--while holding the phone, he grabbed his coat, wand, case, and wallet. "I'll be there soon, Tina."
"Okay, he lives on 8987 Dark Avenue, in London."
No reply.
"Newt, be safe!" she said, but once again, the line had been disconnected.

Y/N felt a toned arm around her waist, and smiled. She turned to look at Craig, who was sleeping so peacefully.
Last night had been so wonderful. He had treated her with care, and made love to her. However, she couldn't stop thinking about Newt, but soon, she blocked him out of her mind.
Slowly, she wriggled out of Craig's grasp and went into the kitchen for some coffee. Just when she was about to pour it into her cup, she heard a knock.
Y/N opened the door, and her cheerful smile faltered. She glared at the auburn-haired male, and was about to shut the door, but his foot stopped it.
"Y/N, please, let me explain," he said, looking suspiciously around the room, "This is urgent!"
"No."
"I didn't mean to hurt you! I really meant to say what I meant to say, but you wouldn't let me explain! But that's not the problem. The man here, Craig, reported--"
"Y/N, who's this?" a voice behind her said, making both Newt and Y/N look to the blonde.
"Get out of here, Y/N," Newt whispered to her, "Please."
"Listen, man, I don't know what's going on here. But I ask you to step away from her, and get out of my property," Craig said, "Or else I'll have to force you."
"He's right, Newt," Y/N said, her voice cold, "Get out, and leave me alone."
Newt wasn't expecting that. "No."
Craig bent over to get his wand, and Newt yelled, "Stupefy!"
He fell to the ground, frozen.
"Newt! Why'd you--"
"He reported you to the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures, and called you dangerous," Newt cut her off.
"No! No, no, no..." she whispered, and fell to her knees.
"We need to get out of here, Y/N. They're coming to take you away. And I can't lose you."
"Get me away from here," she whispered, "I don't want to see his face."
So Newt apparated her to his apartment.
The rest of the day was silent, until the evening.
"I'm sorry, Newt," Y/N suddenly blurted out, while reading a book, "I should've listened to you. I'm sorry."
"I'm sorry for yelling at you, Y/N."
"Newt... Tell me what you were going to tell me before I cut you off."
"I wanted to tell you that nothing is ever going to come between us. And that definitely wouldn't have. Because even if you are a beast, you're not dangerous. You're beautiful, Y/N. You're kind. You're everything that I would ever want."
Y/N was silent, and then whispered, "And you're the only person I want."
"You're a beautiful beast, Y/N," Newt laughed, before capturing her lips in a kiss.
