Y/N tried to haul her suitcase off of the boat unsuccessfully. Perhaps it was the potions she packed in there for healing magical creatures. Perhaps it was all of the parchment papers where she had kept her notes. Or perhaps it was the photos she had kept with her from Ilvermony, bringing back so many memories.
"Merlin's beard, why is this so hard to--" her muttering was cut off by a handsome man bumping into her.
"Er--um--I'm so sorry! A-are you okay?" he stuttered. He was wearing an expensive-looking blue coat. He had floppy red-brown hair, startling blue eyes, and a lean form that towered over Y/N.
"Yes, uh, I'm fine," Y/N managed to squeak out, looking at her polished leather high heels.
"Um, do you need help with that?" the man asked her, pointing to her suitcase. He had his own case in his left hand.
"Yeah, yeah, that--that would be great," she replied, giving him a breath-taking smile. She could see the man's cheeks redden, as he smiled faintly.
After the man had managed to get her suitcase off of the boat, they made their way towards the security desk where they were checking suitcases.
"My name's Y/N, Y/L/N," Y/N said, breaking the silence that only contained the cool sea breeze, looking towards the man.
"Newt Scamander. A pleasure to meet you," he said, grimacing as the suitcase flew over a bump in the cement.
"Here, I can take it now; thank you so much for your help," she said to Newt, her hand grabbing the handle.
They walked a little more, but there were crowds of people in front of them.
Suddenly, Newt's face turned serious. "When I first met you, did you say 'Merlin's beard'?"
Y/N was scared. She'd been discovered, so she tried to play it off. "N-no, of course not!" she replied way too cheerfully.
With a knowing smirk, he leaned in closer, causing her breath to hitch. "Ilvermony or Hogwarts?" he whispered.
"Ilvermony, although I recently traveled to England," Y/N said, shocked that he knew.
What was he?
"Ah, that explains the American accent," he replied.
"Hogwarts for you?" she guessed from the British accent.
"Yes," Newt said. They were now approaching the beginning of the line.
Y/N smiled at him, seeing a little green creature poke its head out from his breast pocket. "What is that cute little thing?"
Newt worriedly tucked Pickett back in there. "Hush, little guy, just a little more time," he turned back to her, "he's a bow truckle. I'm a magizoologist, by the way."
Her eyes lit up, and Newt wondered why, until she said, "I'm a magizoologist, too! In fact, the point of my trip back to New York is to check on the creatures I've found!"
Newt was about to tell her about his case and talk some more until they approached the security desk. Y/N went in front of him. Since her potions were safely tucked underneath her clothes in the case, and also armed with an invisibility spell, the guard couldn't see them. She smiled flirtatiously at the guard, who blushed crimson. Newt was less fortunate. He had to turn his suitcase setting to 'muggle-worthy'but otherwise got past the guard.
After they got past the gates, they looked awkwardly at each other.
"S--so I guess that this is goodbye for now," Newt said giving her a half-smile.
Y/N looked down, blushing, his half-smile working its full effect on her. "Um, can we, uh, maybe meet at that coffee shop later in the afternoon?" She pointed to a cafe not far from where she was standing.
"Yeah, yeah, that would be great," he replied in his cute British accent.
Y/N then made a very bold move: she stood on her tippy-toes to reach Newt's cheek and gave him a light kiss there.
"See you soon," she whispered in a soft voice, then turned around and walked away with her suitcase, leaving Newt standing there, shocked.

Later in the afternoon, when she was at the cafe to meet Newt, Y/N looked at her watch for the twentieth time. He was ten minutes late. Suddenly, she heard shouting in the alleys. Drawing out a knife as a weapon, since it was too risky to use a wand, she snuck into it.
She saw Newt with another woman. Her heart felt bitter; Newt had chosen to reject her and spend her time with someone else.
Y/N swallowed back her bitter tears and glared at Newt, angry at him.
She felt like slapping him, punching him, anything, but she didn't. She simply turned away from them and walked back towards where she came from.
Y/N froze in her steps when Newt shouted out, "Wait, Y/N!'
Her voice was cold when she replied, "What do you want?" She turned around to glare at him.
"I am so, so sorry! My creatures--" he began but was abruptly cut off by the woman.
"Are you crazy! She's a no-maj, just like the one you forgot to obliviate!" she hissed.
Newt looked down at his feet, trying to explain, but before he could open his mouth, Y/N asked, "What's going on? Are you a witch, too?" She was talking to the woman.
When no reply reached her, she drew out her wand and ushered them deeper into the alley. "Lumos," she whispered, her wand lighting up. She ended the spell.
The woman let out a sigh of relief, saying, "I'm sorry about that. It's just that many people have established witch and wizard protests, so I didn't know if you were trying to trick me or not. My name's Porpentina Goldstein, but you can call me Tina for short."
"It's fine, I understand your concern," Y/N replied courteously, "My name's Y/N L/N. I've just traveled from Britain back to America, but I'm from Ilvermony."
"What I was trying to say was that some of my creatures escaped, and Tina and I were trying to catch them," Newt said in a small voice.
"What's this?" a stout, short man suddenly appeared. Y/N jumped a little, not wanting them to find out their secret.
Tina rolled her eyes at him and said, "It's fine. We're going to obliviate him later."
After introducing herself to the no-maj, Jacob, Y/N tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, unsure of what was going to happen next. Tina broke the silence by saying, "If you just traveled back from England, it's my understanding you have nowhere to stay." It was meant as more of a question than a statement.
Y/N nodded silently. She looked up to see Tina with her brows furrowed as if thinking about something.
"You, Newt, and Jacob can stay," she finally said, "with my younger sister, Queenie and me. We live in a women's only apartment, so that'll be fine for you, Y/N, but it might be a bit of trouble getting Jacob and Newt up there. We have to be really quiet.
So Y/N, Tina, Jacob, and Newt made their way to her apartment.

Queenie was a pretty woman, about the same height as Tina. She had short strawberry blonde curls. Jacob instantly started drooling at the sight of her, since she was wearing nothing but a bra. She gave him a suggestive smirk, causing Tina to roll her eyes and say, "Queenie, put on some clothes."
Sighing, Queenie listened to Tina and put on a shirt.
They introduced themselves and Queenie herself.
Y/N looked at Newt, only to see him looking back at her. They both blushed and looked quickly away.
Queenie, reading your minds, noticed this. However, she said nothing except for, "Ooh, two handsome gentlemen and one pretty lady."
Tina and Queenie both set the table with flicks of their wands. The feast was very plentiful.
"So, Y/N, are you going to sleep with Newt?" Queenie innocently asked.
Y/N was eating a chicken leg when she heard the question. Nearly spitting out her food, she choked on it, coughing. Tina, who was sitting next to her, patted her back vigorously and glared at Queenie, who was trying her best to hold back a smile. Newt, who was sitting next to her, didn't register the question for ten seconds, and when he did, looked down in embarrassment.
After everything was calmed down, Queenie said, "I'm sorry, Y/N, I didn't mean it that way. I just meant if you're sharing rooms or not."
She and Tina explained that they didn't have another room, and they would have to share, but Tina didn't let anyone in her room, and Queenie already called on Jacob so they would share rooms. So that left two people and one room. And the last room only had one king bed.
"Y/N, I--I can sleep on the floor if you want," Newt suddenly said, causing everyone to look directly at him. He hadn't spoken for a long time.
"No, Newt, I'll be fine," she replied, "As long as you don't mind me."
"O-of course not!" he sputtered as if he was offended that she had suggested that he didn't like her.

After dinner, everyone headed to their rooms. They took turns in the two washrooms. Y/N removed her makeup, took a quick shower, and brushed her hair. Slipping into her loose silk nightgown, she made her way to the bed, where Newt was already waiting.
Tina and Queenie brought hot chocolate, which she drank. A small bit of it got caught just below her mouth, on her chin, but she didn't notice.
"Wait, Y/N, you--you've got something on your chin," Newt said abruptly.
Y/N wiped her chin frantically, but she could feel nothing.
"Here, let me help you," he whispered, closing the distance between them.
Y/N's eyelids fluttered when he took a tissue and wiped the hot chocolate stain off of her chin.
They were so close
"Thanks," she said softly. She snuggled deeper into the blanket, and so did Newt. They stared at the ceiling for a while, an awkward silence between them.
"It's getting late," Newt said, "maybe we should turn off the lights."
"Yeah, sure," Y/N replied, reaching for the lamp and turning it off.
She could hear Newt turning to his other side, away from her.
Twenty minutes had passed. She still couldn't sleep. From Newt's creaking on his side of the bed, she guessed that he couldn't, either.
"Newt," Y/N murmured, "Do you want to cuddle?"
There was no reply, until he said, "Excuse me?"
"Do you want to cuddle?" she repeated. She realized it sounded really strange, so she added, "I mean, seriously, the blankets are cold, and if we cuddle we can be warmer, so, er, it would be-"
"Shh, Y/N, sure," Newt whispered, "There's no need to justify your actions. Sure, we can, um, cuddle."
Smiling happily, she settled into the crook of his arms. He would be the big spoon since he was taller than her.
His toned arm shifted around her waist, while he inhaled her sweet-smelling hair. It smelled like roses.
"You know, I have a case of magical creatures, and I can show you that tomorrow," he said to her.
Even without looking at him, Y/N could feel his excitement. "Really?"
"Of course, darling."
Y/N could feel her heartbeat accelerating at his choice of words. "Newt, I have to tell you something."
"Mmhm?" he replied.
"I don't know if it's too early to tell, but Newt," she said, "I think I might like you the teeniest tiniest bit."
Newt smiled against her soft hair. "Well, Miss Y/N, I like you the teeniest tiniest bit, too."
Just a few minutes before she fell asleep, Y/N whispered, "Newt, thank you for bumping into me today."
"Why?"
"Because I finally feel like someone understands me, and that's you."
"Thank you too, Y/N," Newt said back, kissing her temple.
With her body pressed against his, they both fell asleep, and both having sweet dreams about each other.
