#76 (Day 1, part 3)
Sorry the long time with no updates but, hey! I had a lot going on. Enjoy!
IMAGINE YOURSELF...
Lying on your back. The duvets were loosely held between your fingers and your eyes stayed wide. All that could be heard a was the often whirring of gears since you had gotten right by the elevator, soft thumps on the ceiling from footsteps, and the cool breeze blowing from the air conditioner. Your chest rose and fell at an even pace and your heart beat at a slow pace.
You used the remaining strength you had to push away the negative thoughts that were piled in the back of your head and sat up. You glanced back once at the computer screen that laid beside you. You sighed as your eyes read the numbers '$1,200' but closed the laptop. You threw your legs over the side over the bed getting an overwhelming feeling of weariness.
Once you got home, from the appointment, you were still in shock. You weren't even sure that you had even gone. You were convinced that it was all just a dream. You soon realized that it was not a dream, but a living nightmare.
You were going to die.
Not a single thing would save you or could save you. You were a boat lost at sea and the lighthouse hadn't even bothered to turn on for you. You were a single tree, in the forest, in the middle of a thunderstorm. The bullseye, target.
You were afraid. What if, when you tell him, you would be an old blanket to him? The type of old blanket that was old, dirty, and basically useless but still full of memories. Would he give you up, throw you away, or decide to keep you until you soon fade to nothingness?
You were brought out of your thoughts by the short sound of a door being shut. You heard the familiar footsteps and sound of bags crinkling.
It was him.
Your thoughts raced as well as your heart. Should I tell him? What if he leaves me? No, I can't be without him. You decided against the thought and plastered a smile on your face. You stood and walked out of the shared room.
There he stood, perfect as usual. He smiled smugly at you while taking off his coat. Two bags sat by his feet; his briefcase and a plastic bag. The plastic bag was unfamiliar to you but you ignored it. He hung his jacket on the jacket hanger by the door and walked towards you. He placed his hands on your shoulders and le leaned down.
His lips met yours for a brief two seconds then he embraced you. You hugged back, memorizing how his body felt against yours. You enhaled deeply and recognized the cologne you had bought him last year for Christmas.
"How was the appointment?" He asked causing your breath to catch in your throat. You opened your mouth to speak but no words would come out. After a few seconds, he slightly pulled away with an eyebrow raised. Concern traced the lines of his eyes.
"Babe?" He asked. "What happened?" Words formed faster than your brain could register and came spilling from your mouth.
"Nothing, he just said I was working too hard." He nodded a knowing smile growing on his lips.
"Okay, well, that's good because you don't have to make dinner tonight. I brought " - he held up the bag - "Take out!" He jumped and ran over to the kitchen counter. You followed giggling at his eager mood. You sat across from him as he started to take the containers from the bag. He handed you one of the takeout containers and a fork.
"So," you said opening it. "How was your day?" He shrugged while stuffing a fork full into his mouth.
"Norma-oh! Benny invited us over for dinner on Friday." You put on a fake smile. Benny was his boss. You hated him. He was always hitting on you, getting all touchy with you, and your boyfriend was completely oblivious. You didn't tell him, you didn't want him to get fired because of your doing. Besides, all H-E double hockey sticks would break loose if he found out. He was a very jealous guy.
"Oh...um, about that," you nervously said. "I can't go."
"Why?" He asked while taking another fork full to his mouth.
"Because I'm going to my parents house." He nearly choked on his food. He kept coughing for a few moments, wiped his mouth with a napkin, and stared at you wide eyed.
"W-what? When did you decide that?" You sighed.
"Today, actually." He looked at you with pleading eyes that asked you not to leave.
"Why?"
"I just haven't seen them in such a long time and I really just want to talk to them." He sighed and grabbed your hand.
"Alright," he kissed your knuckle. "But you have to promise me that you'll come back." You nodded.
"Of course."
