Mandatory Education (AOS/X-Men/Deadpool x reader)
No, oh please, no.
You stared up at the building that was crumbling around you, hearing the sounds of destruction and death, all by your hand, even though you had tried desperately to stop it. Wailing sirens approached, though their volume was muffled by the screams of bystanders running from the structure and in the streets around you. For you, however, it was as if your body was frozen in time, unwavering even as bricks and beams landed on the ground next to you.
All you wanted to do was save a few people, maybe make good on living to help others rather than being sucked into the seduction of the dark energy that you could bend to your will. You could rule the world if you wanted to, but that had never once crossed your mind despite knowing that's what everyone thought of you. Prove them wrong, you thought, following your instinct to this moment, only to find that one misjudgment of your energies was pulling the building apart with the people you wanted to save still inside, and there wasn't a damn thing you could do about it.
"You need to move! This building won't hold much longer, come on!" You had never heard the voice in person, but you knew it all too well; when you forced yourself to turn and look, you still felt a sense of wonderment when Captain America filled your sights.
"No, don't you dare! You're coming with me!" came an alternate voice from your other side. You turned to see who those words belonged to, only to recognize the one person that you couldn't seem to evade; Melinda May had been tracking you for months, and now it would seem that her efforts were about to pay off.
Both options lacked a positive outcome, but being flanked from either side, you had to choose one. You could have forced them away if you summoned your power, but with the destruction that you had just caused still falling around you, you were far too afraid.
"Hey, Mistress of the Dark, move your tits!"
You had to squint through the brick dust and smoke that hung heavily in the air, but the red leather suit was just visible by the light of flames next to him. "Who the hell are you?"
"Does it really matter? I'm here to save that hot ass of yours, so let's get a move on! I've got a plan you're gonna hate with a remarkable chance of disastrous failure, but it can't be worse than this shit show that you've made for yourself, right?"
"Right," you nodded in shock, dumbfounded at this new option, "I'll take it!" You lunged forward and took his hand, not questioning when he ran towards the building rather than away, throwing himself over you when one of the walls finally gave way. Once the dust settled, he rolled off of you, slapping your back while you tried to cough your lungs clear; you could still hear the sounds of May and Rogers, but now there was an unpassable pile of debris keeping them from you. "Not bad."
"Thank you! I do take pride in my stupidity when it actually works. You okay?"
"Yeah, I'm good," you coughed one last time, taking his hand to help you stand. "I'm (Y/N). And you are...?"
"I know exactly who you are doll face, and I'm not going to lie and say that it doesn't absolutely crush both my ego and my heart to know that you have no idea who I am. But," he sighed, casually wiping the dust from his suit, "I'll try to not take it personally, even though I just saved your life and all."
"I'm still waiting."
"Good. Because I don't give it up on the first date, sweetheart. I can go months without giving my left hand a turn, because this package is worth the wait."
~~~
"You lost her again."
It wasn't a question, so much as a revelation that they may never be able to catch you, especially if this Deadpool guy that they were starting to hear rumors about had gotten to you before they could. Phil sat at his desk with a look that May took as disappointment, but in reality, he was deciding that maybe it was time to stop.
"I'll get her. I was close, Phil, and I would have had her if that guy hadn't shown up when he did. Rogers was there too, and he didn't have any better of a shot than I did."
"Steve was there?" he perked up, sitting straighter. "What do the Avengers want with her?"
"I would imagine the same thing that we do," she sighed, taking a seat across from him, "to help her learn control and to make sure that a weapon as strong as she is doesn't get into the wrong hands."
"She's not a weapon, May, she's a person. She has powers that could be turned into a weapon that we need to make sure that she uses the right way, or not at all."
May paced back and forth in front of his desk, her arms tightly crossed and her lips pursed in deep thought. They had done it before, helping new inhumans to harness their gifts and to become a part of their team. But she wasn't sure what you were, and if you were trying to use your power for good or not. When she had taken the time to really look at you as the building was crumbling by your actions, she thought for a moment that she had seen remorse in your eyes, but maybe she didn't want to see it. Maybe Phil was right, and she was looking at you with too narrow of vision; maybe you just needed direction.
"Okay, I can see your side too, Phil, I can," she relented, "but we have to be sure, and the only way to do that is to capture her, no matter how we get it done. You may not like it, but sometimes that means being not so nice."
You felt like you had been walking for days, and your legs were wobbling from fatigue when your tour guide stopped and held you back, his arm darting out in front of you so suddenly that he almost knocked you to the ground.
"Hey, asshole, a little warning?"
"Hey, Elvira, cut me some slack here, I'm trying to keep a low profile," Wade snapped. "I'm not exactly welcome in these parts, but they're your best shot at staying away from the mutant police and Team Iron America."
"Why would these guys be any better?" you asked, nodding towards the massive building in front of you. "What makes you think that anyone is going to help me once they find out what I can do? I've been vilified by more people than you've met in your entire life."
"Doubtful."
"You'll have to forgive me if I have a hard time believing this," you replied quietly, still staring at the house, "but I've given up on believing in people a long time ago, and they sure as hell don't believe in me. Every time I try to do something right, and to maybe use this damn curse for something good, I screw it up. You saw."
"Yes, I did," he agreed, finally dropping his arm and allowing you to continue forward, "and from what I could tell, you just need a little help with your aim, darlin'. We've all got a little of the dark side in us, some more than others, I've learned," he chuckled, bowing his head towards you, "but for the amount that you've got rolling around, you seem to have a pretty good handle on it, all things considered."
Wade stopped at the base of the steps that led up to the heavy, ornate door and groaned, maybe even whined a little, reluctantly grabbing your hand and stomping his way up with you in tow. You had no idea why he was trying to help you, given how much he appeared to despise being here. He raised his hand and you saw a tremor in it, even though he was doing his best to laugh it off as it hovered just before connecting to it's target.
"I feel like I'm bringing home daddy's little girl all knocked up after prom night," he snickered, finally rapping his knuckles against the wood, "I'm tingly all over."
The door began to open slowly and he took a step back to hide behind you, ducking down out of sight when the Professor came into full view.
"Hello, (Y/N)," Charles greeted, "I'm so happy to finally meet you, you're quite the celebrity. I'm surprised that you've decided to grace us with a visit."
"Actually, McAvoy," Wade broke in, though he was still hidden, "I'd like you to teach our friend here a thing or two on how to tone down the death and destruction. She's treading on my anti-hero turf and I've worked too damn hard on being a really fucked up good guy for Miss Sparkle Fingers here to ruin my vibe."
"But isn't bringing her here to me doing something good?"
Wade gasped and finally stood fully, pushing you slightly to the side to face Xavier straight on with his hands planted firmly on his hips in defiance of what he was hearing. "How dare you? I am not! She's going to make me look good if you don't stop her, and I'll be goddamned if I'm gonna let that happen! Now go," he reached out to give you a hard push against your back, "make me look like shit."
Part 2
"You're not concentrating, (Y/N)," Charles sighed, "I would really appreciate it if you could keep portals to other realms closed for now, if not too much trouble."
"I'm sorry, it's just...someone said my name."
"Someone is trying to reach you?"
"Yeah. Sorry," you shook your head, trying to clear it, "I'll work on blocking it. Won't happen again." But the voice was persistent, even as you shut down the link that had forced its way into your mind. You didn't recognize it at all, but whoever it was definitely knew you, and it unnerved you at it's aggressive desperation to keep you connected. "Dammit, shut up," you muttered, shaking your head again.
"(Y/N), who is it?" The Professor's voice became urgent and concerned now, pushing forward to take your arm and get your attention to keep you from letting the other voice in your mind get the upper hand. "Do you want me to help you? You can let me in."
"No, I'm okay. But I don't know who they are, and they really want to get my attention."
~~~
"Wade Wilson has been a thorn in our side for the last time," Steve announced to the team sternly, "mark my words. I don't know where he took (Y/N), but we have to find her. She can't control her powers and she's becoming more and more of a threat the longer she's out there on her own."
"You all just focus on finding Wilson," Nick joined in, "I've got a team looking for (Y/N)."
"Yeah, I saw one of them trying to apprehend her, and I get the feeling that we aren't exactly on the same side here, Nick. I'm not very trusting of the SHIELD emblem anymore, and it surprises me that you are."
"Rogers, listen, they only want to help her just like you do. She needs to be in a controlled environment to harness what she has. We all know that she was trying to do something to help those people, but as you said, she needs guidance to use her powers safely. That team has the means to do it."
"And we don't?" Wanda added.
"No, not like they do."
Steve hummed in consideration and discontent, tapping his pen absentmindedly against the wood of the table top. He looked around the room from one face to the next, in search of a little guidance, but only received looks of question back, expecting him to take control as usual. "Alright, fine," he finally relented, "but if you don't get a lead in the next 72 hours, provided we haven't found Wilson to lead us to her by then, you let us get a chance, agreed?"
"I can live with that," Nick nodded, standing to excuse himself with a small wave to the rest as he took his leave. "We'll be in touch."
"Okay, does anyone have anything on where Deadpool is now? Any sightings?" Steve asked the group, hoping that someone had anything to go on.
"Obnoxious, sarcastic loudmouth in a bright red leather suit? Shouldn't be too hard," Tony laughed, pulling up several maps on the conference room screen. "I hear he's quite the connoisseur of gas station microwavables. FRIDAY, you know what to do."
"Yes, boss."
~~~
That night when you closed your eyes to sleep after a long day of arduous training with the Professor, it couldn't have come soon enough and you felt as if you had been awake for years. The mental drain that came with working with Charles, arguably the strongest mind that you'd ever encountered, was a stark reminder of just how far you still needed to go before you would feel competent or safe in your abilities.
(Y/N), I know you can hear me.
"Come on," you whined into your pillow, "just leave me alone. I'm not helping you."
Oh, darling, you will. I can promise you things that none of these mortals can.
"I don't want it, now please, just stop," you pleaded. "Let me sleep."
Yes, get your rest. You will need it. Very soon.
You knew that you had to tell Charles, but you were too tired to even consider getting out of the soft and welcoming bed that you had only just sunken into. "Tomorrow," you muttered through barely open lips, falling quickly into exhaustion and allowing sleep to overtake you. Everything would wait until tomorrow, and in the enveloping comfort of your blankets and pillows, you were willing to take the chance that you had the luxury of that much time.
~~~
The next morning, Nick arrived at the SHIELD bunker with a hint of a spring in his step, uncharacteristic of the man clad in all black with a permanent stern expression through every shift in emotion. He gave a nod in greeting to each agent that he passed on the way to Phil's office, garnering confused stares and hesitant nods in return, leaving everyone to wonder what they had done wrong this time to warrant his visit.
"Coulson, you're gonna be so happy to see me," he announced, dropping a tablet on the Director's desk. "I've gotten the Avengers to back off."
"Well, that's just great, Nick. I'm really, really glad to hear that," Phil replied flatly. He leaned back in his chair with a smug grin, his sarcasm leaving a heavy weight in the air between them. "I'd say thanks, but I can't bring myself to do it when I just got word that Tony Stark tried to run a scan of my building not even twenty minutes ago. Happen to have any idea what that's about?"
"What the hell?"
"Exactly."
"I told them to find Deadpool, that's it. I told them to let your team handle finding (Y/N)."
"Well, that makes sense," Phil sighed, standing from his seat and grabbing the tablet that Nick had brought, "we were looking for him too, so I have no doubt that Stark is trying to break our firewall as we speak." His fingers danced over the tablet feverishly, until he stopped with a smirk, returning it to Nick. "There, that should give us at least a few more hours before he gets close again. So get him off my back for real this time, could ya?"
"Yeah, I'll try again," Nick agreed, "but you know how he is-"
"Phil, I think we have a problem," May interrupted, barging in and hurrying to the other side of his desk, frantically typing until the large screen on the opposite wall came to life and filled the office with light. "We've got off the charts readings at Xavier's. Something seismic at best, but we can't measure it because we have no idea what it is."
"It's her."
"We compared what we're seeing here to the event she caused in New York, and they aren't even close in how much power is surging right now. I'm not so sure if it's her," May argued. "If it is her, she's either gotten a hell of a lot stronger really fast, or something is helping her."
"Something?" Nick asked, walking closer to the screen as his mind raced at the potential devastation that could be about to happen. "Or someone?"
~~~
"(Y/N)! Look at me!" Charles commanded, trying to break the connection that you had made against your will, and the wave of darkness that was swirling around you that was keeping him from reaching you. "(Y/N), you have to stop!" He pushed his mind forward towards you, but your own barriers were just too strong; the negative energy that you could barely harness was too wild and unpredictable.
"I...can't..." you struggled, "...he's stronger..."
The floor beneath your feet shook, the stone that made up the surface beginning to crack and splinter from the pressure building in the room. Gusts of winds howled from beyond the portal and encircled you, forcing Charles back each time he was close enough to reach out to you.
That's right, my dear, you're doing so well. I cannot wait to finally meet you.
This time Charles heard the voice that had been reserved only for you, and his blood ran cold. The door to the training hall shook, but it wasn't from what was happening inside the room; an unlikely gathering of powers were desperately trying to break in to help stop what they too feared was happening. "Xavier! Open the door!"
"I can't!" he hollered back. "I have to stop him!"
Steve readied his shield and took a few long strides back, preparing to charge forward into the massive oak door, but before he could take his first step, Beast appeared as if from nowhere and pushed out in front of him with a roar. He slammed his body into the barrier, shaking it but still not able to break it apart.
"What's holding it?" he growled, trying again. "We should be able to break through."
"Captain, hold your shield steady, I want to try something," Daisy offered. "Let me give you a little push." She raised her hands and took a deep breath, giving him a nod that was meant to give him comfort, but in reality, she was barely sure of herself in that she could make this work. "You ready?"
Steve firmed his stance and gripped the shield, holding it at the ready, "go, ma'am."
Daisy tried to not laugh at Steve's formality and focused her energy, thrusting him forward into the door with so much force that he nearly lost his grip. The sound of the hit resonated and shook the room around them, but the door gave way, finally, and the newly formed team of Avengers, X-Men and SHIELD agents rushed inside to see a sight that created an eerie silence of both shock and fear.
The Professor had been dragged from his chair, now held on his knees before you, looking to you for help that you were unable to give. You too were being held, but at the side of the man who had promised you his loyalty; the man that was immediately recognized by everyone but you.
Steve scrambled to his feet and began to rush forward, but he was quickly halted and brought to his knees as well, the shield flung into your hands despite your not wanting it. "(Y/N), you couldn't stop him," he tried to reassure you, "we know that."
"Do not speak to her, Captain, as you are not deserving of her attention. She is a divine miracle that you will show respect and gratitude, and nothing less that your unyielding devotion. I should have taught you all this at our last meeting, but our time together was so rudely interrupted. I would have shown you what it means to be led, and the life that I would have given you if only you would have listened. This time, my dear Captain, you will learn to kneel before me."
Part 3
"So, if I do this, then what's in it for me? I've got no beef with this Loki guy, so I'd prefer it if I could stay off Reindeer Games' radar, ya know? I mean, shit, he killed you off, right? I don't have time for that in my packed social calendar."
"What's in it for you," Phil replied matter-of-fact, "is that you can do what's right and help."
"That's it?" Wade asked with disbelief.
"Isn't that enough?"
"Fuck no."
Phil's fingers tightened around the steering wheel as he continued on towards the mansion, feeling his apprehension growing by the mile and made worse by the thought that his miraculous find wasn't so miraculous after all and might have been a massive waste of time. "Okay, how about this then," he offered, "if you do this, and help us just once, I'll get you Captain America's phone number."
"Listen, I don't care what you..." he stopped, realizing what he had just heard, "...hold it right there, dead man walking. Like, his personal phone number? I could call him any time day or night? We could text each other at 3am when we can't sleep and talk about our favorite Pinterest DIY's? I could be his new bestest friend forever?"
"Sure, I suppose that's right."
"We could make friendship bracelets," he whispered to himself, "and have sleepovers at the compound. I would pitch the biggest tent that he's ever been under."
"You know what, I'm just gonna move past that, if you don't mind?" Phil asked with a reaffirming nod.
"Do you, boo boo."
Phil didn't want to like this guy, but dammit if he couldn't help it. Wade was something that he hadn't experienced before, and he was an oddly refreshing breath of fresh air in a world of superheroes and nearly constant danger. It was a welcome change of humor in the face of what might be the end of the world around him. "So, does that mean you're in?"
"Coulson, let me tell you, it would be my genuine pleasure to send that green fucking leprechaun back over his sparkly rainbow bridge. That Lucky Charms loving bag of soggy dick tips won't know what hit him."
"I'm glad you're on our side."
"Yeah, buddy," Wade laughed, turning away to look out the window as Phil pushed the car to its limits. "But I do have one question."
"Only one?"
"Oh, shit no! I'm confused as fuck!" he admitted readily, leaving Phil visibly uncomfortable in the seat next to him. "For example, if Cap thinks that you've been worm food for the last four years, how is he gonna react when you stride in all alive and cocky like 'how you like me now, bitch'?"
"I uh...I hadn't thought that far ahead," he stumbled nervously. "Do you think it might be weird?"
"Pfft, not at all," Wade scoffed with the wave of a dismissive hand, "I'm sure that resurrection is a daily occurrence for...oh, hold up...I take that back. That defrosted Bomb Pop has nothing to say about you coming back from the dead, or else he's just a hypocritical asshole and he'll have to get through his new best friend here if he wants to come at you, bro."
"Thanks, I appreciate the support."
"But only if he doesn't get mad at me though," he backpedaled quickly, "because I've already got so many ideas for our matching bracelets. Best buds forever."
~~~
You stood at Loki's side, Steve's shield still in your hands and unable to move until he would release you to allow it. Even though you had been his link to this realm, he had no trust for you until you proved your worth; he knew you were valuable to him and could become a strong ally if you cooperated without the need for him to force his hand. The last thing that you wanted was for your ability to take your mind and make your choices, because it might be the only chance that any of you had to get out of this.
"Darling," he cooed softly, "if you don't mind, could you please invite the rest of our guests in?"
"Of course," you agreed hesitantly, raising your hand towards the door that Steve had just slammed open; Daisy and Beast had entered with Steve, but you could sense that there were others who were holding back. Within seconds, May, Logan, Tony, and Clint were dragged inside and forced to their knees under your control. You knew that more would come, and you had to be ready. It was a question of what you would do when they arrived that had your mind racing.
"(Y/N), you can fight back," Charles struggled, "I can help you."
"Quiet," Loki interrupted, "I said that no one is to speak to her unless I give permission. I am more than willing to make you an example for the others, Professor." He lowered his new scepter and pointed it at Charles, choking him into silence; his face reddened and shifted into a dark purple, his lips taking on a blue pallor as you watched.
"Loki, please...don't..."
"He didn't follow his command, (Y/N). A lesson must be taught and this man calls himself an educator. Clearly, he is not a very effective one if he is teaching by example."
"Stop," you ordered much more firmly. Your eyes darted to Steve and then down to his shield and back to him. He knew what you were thinking and tried to shake his head to stop you, but he was frozen in place under Loki's control of him. If you were powerful enough to help bring Loki here, meaning that he wasn't strong enough on his own, he was holding you captive to his will only by the hopes that you wouldn't realize that you were the stronger one.
A commotion in the hallway drew your attention for a moment, hearing the arrival of the others just as you had predicted. The ridiculous man in the red leather suit who had brought you here bolted through the doors and stopped, gasping with his hands slapping to the sides of his face at the sight of you; he gathered himself and drew his blades, dropping his stance back to steady himself for a fight that he had no idea how to win.
"Hey, asshole," he called out, "how about we put the purple dinosaur down so you can try your hand at a real freak show? I'm all kinds of fucked up fun over here."
Loki sighed at yet another interruption by someone clearly so insignificant, reluctantly releasing his grip on Charles, who dropped to the floor in a gasping heap. "I'm sorry, and you are?" he asked.
"I'm her boyfriend," he lied, "and you had better step away from my girl before I teach you a lesson about touching things that aren't yours. I haven't even gotten to touch her yet."
"Who is this?" Loki now asked you. "Nothing in your mind told me that you had relations with anyone."
"I'm sorry, did you not hear me?" Wade answered for you. "Is the mask muffling my voice?"
"Well I heard you just fine," Phil said as he stepped over the threshold of the shattered door and into view. "You'll have to forgive our visitor, he's not one for listening to anyone but himself."
Even under duress, Steve's eyes widened at the familiar voice behind him, and Loki was taken aback at the sight, his mouth hanging open in shock for a few seconds before his lips curled into an amused sneer. "You're not dead."
"See, he's a quick one, just like I said," Coulson replied, though looking directly at you. "No, I'm not dead. I think it might be a testament to your conviction...or lack thereof, as I may have mentioned before. I did bring that up, right?"
"Yes, you mentioned that."
"Great," Phil smiled, taking a few steps forward with Wade at his side, moving forward to stand next to Steve, "so since we've agreed that you're not going to win, I think it would be best if you could release everyone and come with me. No reason to make any more of a scene."
"Or, perhaps you also need to learn-"
"Yep, I think it might be you," Wade broke in. "Are you deaf or just fucking stupid? I mean, I heard you clear as day, Phillip. (Y/N)," he turned to you, "you heard him too right?"
"(Y/N), do the honors please," Loki commanded quietly, "I think it should be you to show them a glimpse of the glorious future under our rule, that they will be so unfortunate as to miss. End them and our misery, darling."
You felt Loki's hold over you begin to dissipate and the return of your free will to move tingling throughout your entire body. He was letting you go so that you could act as if a test in your reverence of him; you had him believing that you would follow, when in reality, you had decided exactly how you would end him.
"Yes, sir," you answered, your hand gripping the shield a little tighter. You raised a hand towards Wade and Phil, allowing your energy to build within it until it was almost so painful that you couldn't hold it any longer. Wade dropped to the ground and Phil ducked for cover, but you weren't going to hurt them at all, or any of the others at Loki's mercy; you never were.
"Captain!" you called out, throwing the shield to him at the instant you turned and grabbed Loki with the hand that held the entirety of your strength within it. A field of dark energy swirled up from your feet to encompass the two of you and block you from view; you could hear the commotion building in the room and could hear the yelling of your name, but now you were committed to your decision and couldn't back down. You were going to pull Loki into the void and absolute darkness that you carried inside, creating a portal into nothingness. If it took you along with him, then so be it.
"Don't," he pleaded with a deceiving softness in his voice, "you don't want to spend eternity there, trust someone who knows. Certainly not with me."
You felt him trying to fight against you with his own ability, but you were right; you were the stronger one and he was no match for your power. You also felt yourself slipping into the dark with nothing to hold you back; rather than fighting it and risking making yourself weak, you welcomed it and allowed yourself to fall, gripping Loki even tighter.
"(Y/N)! You don't have to!" Charles called out to you. He grabbed his head in both pain and determination, searching for you beyond the cocoon that you had built around yourself, but he couldn't breach it. "I can't reach her..."
"(Y/N), you have to stop!" Steve attempted, raising his shield and lunging forward. The force of impact threw him back violently, slamming him limply into the far wall with a force that send the shield bouncing away out of his grip.
"Phil! She's too hot to die!" Wade yelled and jumped to his feet, rushing forward despite having had just seen Steve tossed away like he was nothing. He lowered his head and turned his shoulder into the massive wall that you had built, running at his full speed in the hopes of breaking through; he was counting on his indestructibility to save him from the death that you were creating for yourself. When he hit and heard the cracking of his own bones at the impact, he actually had a moment of disbelief that it didn't work.
Daisy decided that she should be next to give it a shot, raising her hands to try to disrupt you somehow, but before the first wave of energy could leave her hands, the room shook around her, and the light was extinguished to surround them all in pitch black. When they regained their senses and the light returned, you and Loki were gone.
"Son of a motherfucker, shit goddammit fuck!' Wade hissed, slamming a fist into the wall. "What the actual fuck was she thinking?!"
"That she had to do what was right," Steve offered solemnly, still sitting on the ground and catching his breath, "so let's allow her the dignity of her choice, okay?"
"I'll do no such thing," he argued back, "so back up off me about making her a martyr. If damning yourself to hell for all eternity is what it takes to be one of you crazy motherfuckers, then I want nothing to do with it." He took one final look around the room and waved them off, stopping next to Phil on the way out with one final thing to say before he could turn his back on the rest of them.
"Don't take this the wrong way, but you should've stayed dead. No one should come back to life for this shit."
~~~
The next day, Wade woke up in one of the worst moods that he had felt in years, cursing at the sun for having the nerve to exist and brighten the world when he only wanted to be swallowed up by darkness. He rolled over in his bed and covered his head with the blanket, but the light of day still shone through the worn threads that surrounded him. He tried to bury his head under the pillow, but a group of birds with a cruel sense of humor had gathered just outside of his window, singing their song with a happiness that grated on his nerves. When his phone alerted him to a message next, it was barely spared from taking flight when he noticed who it was from.
"What the ass?" he murmured, rubbing the sleep from his eyes, just to make sure he wasn't seeing things.
Hey, it's Steve. I wanted to see if you were okay today. You don't have to respond, and I understand why you wouldn't. I'm sorry how things ended, and you can contact me anytime if you should need to.
"Sweet baby Jesus," he practically squealed in delight, "this is the greatest day of my whole life." His fingers hovered over the letters on the screen to type out a reply, but they were shaking too hard to cooperate and his mind was blank. When the words finally came and he hit send, the sudden realization of what he actually said mortified him.
I love Captain America.
"Stupid, stupid, shit, shit, shit."
Thanks?
Stupid autocorrect, he quickly responded, trying to cover his error.
What were you typing that would autocorrect to that?
"Oh, god," he whimpered, trying again. I love...chimichangas?
That makes about as much sense, but okay. Since I have your attention, we were wondering if you would be available to come to the compound for a meeting today?
Wade nearly forgot to send a reply in his excitement and haste to jump out of bed to get dressed and on his way. He sent his acceptance and ran to the door, pulling it open only to stop abruptly and turn back, "fuck, I almost forgot my plans." He scooped up the stack of papers that held scribbles and sketches from his desk, then grabbed a large bag of beads and yarn from the closet, shoving them all into his backpack before finally making his way out with a new skip in his step.
"Bracelets for everyone!"
