What's Gotten Into Your Head? (Pietro Maximoff x reader)

The city is flying. We're fighting an army of robots. And I have a bow and arrow, none of this makes sense.

Well, that gave you no more insight into what was happening in your city than you had before. You saw the man with Wanda Maximoff, but you weren't sure if she was on their side or not, so you moved along, doing your best to hold your own against the robots that had taken over. He was the first of the Avengers that you had seen in person, and you really weren't in any hurry to find any of the others.

The faceless robots were coming from everywhere all at once and it was draining your powers to keep them away. Your telekinesis was strong, but not without its limits; with each robot that you pushed away or threw to the side, two more would appear. It was time to find a place to hide and regroup, but that was when you heard the call to run for rescue boats.

"(Y/N), what are you still doing here? Get to one of the boats! We can handle this!" Pietro yelled to you as you ran to his side, keeping your eyes open for sign of attack.

"I thought you could maybe use some help," you grunted, forcing several robots back to shatter against a wall. "You know, you guys make it hard for me to protect my city with all of these tin men floating around. I'm just one person, remember?"

"That's not fair, (Y/N), you chose that life. You're the one who likes the danger, so this should be all fun and games for you, no?"

"No." You glanced to your side to see a group of Avengers completing the round-up of citizens and ready to depart. "We best get over there if we want to catch our ride."

Pietro grabbed your arm and was about to pick you up to run when he stopped and looked to his right, seeing one of his teammates about to be showered with bullets from above. He glanced back at you and ran. "Pietro, stop!" you hollered behind him, and raised your hands to stop the ammunition from hitting them. You held that position as long as you could, waiting until each one of them had cleared away before letting go.

You could feel yourself almost completely drained as you dropped to the ground, gasping to catch your breath. The muscles in your arms were shaking and tightening, making you wince in pain with each movement. You looked up just in time to see one of Pietro's teammates coming towards you; it was the same one that you had seen with Wanda. Before he could reach you, you forced yourself up and ran to one of the rescue boats to hide yourself away until you were safe.

"(Y/N). Her name is (Y/N). She came aboard just moments before we left," Pietro said anxiously, searching everywhere for you on the helicarrier that he had access to. "Are you certain that there's no one here by that name?"

"I'm sorry, sir. I don't have anyone on the list."

"Hey, Maximoff, you find her?" Clint asked, stepping up to his side and grabbing the tablet away from the agent before he could argue. "We're sure she made it out, right?"

Pietro rested his hands on his hips, sighing in defeat as he looked around the room. You had always been a master at hiding yourself if you didn't want to be seen, and he was beginning to give up hope of finding you at all. "I'm sure. She just doesn't want us to find her, that's all. So we won't."

Once the team had returned to the tower, Steve was anxious to gather them together to talk about the battle, and to discuss how to move the team forward. It had been traumatic enough, and they were still unable to locate Bruce. The Captain had been talking for nearly an hour, but Pietro had heard none of it, his mind still on how he was going to find you.

"Pietro?"

"Hey, Maximoff?"

"Can someone give him a slap on the back of the head?" Steve was getting more and more annoyed with each attempt to get Pietro's attention. He picked up a pen from the table and threw it, striking the Sokovian on his chest, finally gaining his focus on the task at hand.

"Thanks for joining us. Is there something going on that you would like to share with everyone?"

Pietro's head snapped up and looked at the group around him, all smiling and laughing quietly. He shook his head and turned to look out the window again, unable to get his own mind to cooperate and focus on the job. "I still have had no luck on finding (Y/N). I'm sorry, Captain, but I need to work on this."

"Why is this so important to you?" Steve asked. "If she doesn't want to be found, why are you still pushing it?"

"Because she saved me and I want to repay her." Pietro turned back to Steve and leaned forward on the table, his expression becoming stern, "actually, she saved you too, Captain. She saved all our asses and you should be as eager to find her as I am."

"Okay, listen-"

Steve's words were interrupted by a loud clap of thunder and a vibration felt throughout the building. Several flashes of lightning illuminated the room, followed by more rumbling from the sky. He moved to the window and pulled the shade up as rain began to pour and cloud his vision of the streets below. Another flash of light lit the room, but this time it caught Pietro's attention, bringing him to stand next to Steve.

"Did you see that?"

"Yeah, it was lightning."

"No, this was different," he put his hands to the glass and looked between them to try to see down to the street. His vision was too blurred so he ran to the entrance of the building and waited. He stood in place for several minutes, wondering if his idea were true; that if the flash of light that caught his eye was actually you trying to get his attention. He stood at the door, watching and waiting until you finally showed yourself.

"Well, come in already," he laughed, "you're going to make yourself sick, you're soaking wet."

"I don't have anywhere that I belong in this city that you've stranded me in, Pietro. This was the only place that I could think to go."

"Perhaps if you hadn't been hiding from us, you would have been released in Sokovia like the others." He reached out and took your hand to lead you in, but he stopped abruptly with his eyes wide and fast breaths. "What the hell?" Pietro released your hand quickly, as if the contact with you was burning his skin.

"What? What's wrong?"

He opened his mouth to answer, but was interrupted when Wanda suddenly appeared before him, a trail of light following her frame as she sped to a halt.

"Brother, we have a problem."

~~~
"Okay, but why do you all assume that this was because of me? I was only trying to get Pietro's attention, and I don't have this kind of power in the first place. I'm just a telekinetic."
"Well there was something in that flash you created," Tony began, focusing intently on the bank of screens in front of him. "Somehow you created a way for the twins to transfer and exchange their powers with each other, and I have no idea how to switch it back. Do you?"
You were beginning to feel very nervous and a bit surrounded, sitting on an exam table in the lab as they watched over you. "Like I just said, Mr. Stark, I have no idea how it happened, so I really can't offer you any help."
"Well, speedster, it looks like you got what you wanted. You found her," Steve said, exiting the room, turning before he was fully gone, "now figure out how to fix what she did."
"I told you-"
"It's okay. We'll figure it out," Pietro said calmly, taking a seat on the table next to you. "I've often wondered what is was like for Wanda, being able to read people. Now I know."
"You know?" Your heart began to race, wondering if he had been in contact long enough to know why you were really there. Did he read you long enough to know how you felt about him, and that you had been looking for him as much as he had been looking for you?
His feet began to swing a bit over the edge of the table, looking almost childlike in his nervousness. You couldn't help but think of how cute it was. "Yep," he whispered, with a subtle pop in the 'p' sound of his word. "Don't feel any embarrassment, (Y/N). I...I feel...the same. And, I need to thank you for what you did, during the battle. You saved me. You saved us."
"Wait, you feel the same? Did I hear you correctly?"
"There was never a good time, back home, and now I don't want to miss the chance to tell you again."
"Okay you two," Tony said as he burst out from behind his computer, "here's what's gonna happen. (Y/N), I want you to stay here, and I want one twin on each side of the room. The first step in solving a problem is replication. Let's just see what happens if you do the same thing that started it all. Maybe we'll get lucky."
Pietro jumped down from the table and turned to you with a wink and a mischievous smirk. "Yes," he whispered, "maybe we'll get lucky."
"Stop it," you scolded under your breath, waiting for the two to take their positions on either side of you. Tony walked out and stood just beyond the door, watching with an expression full of anticipation and excitement for an experiment to be played out before him.
"Just do whatever you did before," he said through the intercom. "Make that flashy-light-thing that you did." The group standing outside covered their eyes; once you saw Pietro and Wanda covering theirs, you clapped your hands together and filled the room with a blinding light. Once it dissipated everyone uncovered their eyes and looked to the twins anxiously.
"Guys? Did it work?"
Pietro answered wordlessly, appearing next to you in a flash for a kiss that left you speechless and breathless, rushing away again before you could even process what had happened.
"Yeah," you gasped, "that worked."
