Chapter Five
Perfect Strangers
Recommended Song:
Perfect Strangers by Jonas Blue & JP Cooper
Rey bit her lip, as she brushed a fallen strand of her dark black hair away from her forehead, as well as tapping her pencil, while reviewing the first few words of the song, given to them by Professor Organa to them.
She ignored the noises made by the stray cats outside, as Rey stuffed her earphones in both of her earlobes, the music then played out.
You were looking at me, like you wanted to stay / when I saw you yesterday.
Rey was given a glimpse of Ben's face in her head, and she immediately blushed. "What am I thinking," she said to herself, and continued to tap her pencil against the paper, when she suddenly heard a soft, but audible knock.
Rey turned to open the door, to see nobody - just empty space, and air - as she sighed, to close it. Must be my imagination, she thought.
She heard the knock again. Rey opened the door, but still, there was nobody waiting. Angrily, she closed the door with a huff.
When she heard the knock once more, Rey wanted to hit her head. She wanted to tell her mind to stop scaring her with those noises, when Rey saw it. The window.
Kylo was perched on top of a tree, waving at her. Rey giggled gingerly, and opened the window. "What are you doing up here?"
"May I come in? Then I'll relay the story."
"Sure. Come.. in."
Kylo slowly fitted his way through the petite window, making slight creaky noises, but nonetheless, quiet enough for Unkar not to hear him. He looked to her, and grinned like an idiot. Rey laughed, then realizing that it was another time that she laughed. Huh.
"So?"
"So what?"
Kylo groaned. "Not again. Are we stuck in this loop forever? Because I hate it."
Rey shrugged. "Well, I don't know. How about you talk about how you got up..." She traced her finger to the window. "There."
He wrung his hands together, as Kylo spoke with ease. "Well, I was just thinking that instead of wasting my load on calling you, I'll just come up here to continue our project."
Nodding, Rey scrambled to take the musical sheets from the drawers she placed them into, before he spoke. "Were you studying?"
Rey whipped her head up, only to watch Kylo peer over her notes, his hand brushing the paper's rough surface. "Um.. yeah?"
Kylo observed her handwriting, it was small and feminine, but with a classy taste to it. "Wasn't this the song that Professor Organa told us to memorize?" asked Kylo.
Rey nodded, as she reached to close it. Moments later, they were already in the verge of practicing the song they chose after heaps of arguments were tossed out. Symphony, by Clean Bandit and Zara Larsson. Not bad.
Kylo brought his guitar with him, which left Rey thinking how he managed to fit it in the window a while back. She admitted she was really paying much attention a while ago.
While Kylo was strumming his guitar, Rey was already humming the tune to Perfect Strangers, the assignment she was just reviewing, before Kylo Ren happened.
"Maybe we're Perfect Strangers."
Rey turned to look at Kylo, eyes widened, as he stared ruefully back at her. Did she just heard the Kylo Ren sing something?
"Maybe it's not forever." Rey replied back.
"Maybe intellect would change us," Kylo gave a tiny smile, his eyes glinting humorously.
"Maybe we'll stay together." She returned his smile, with one of hers.
"Maybe we'll walk away. Maybe we'll realize.."
Rey decided to sing the next.
"We're only human,"
"Maybe we don't need no reason." Kylo finished the verse for her.
Rey smiled, and decided to play the song from her Spotify. The music blared loudly, and Rey flinched, and lowered the volume at once. Kylo chuckled at her sudden flinch.
"Not funny." She smirked, and Kylo suddenly looked at her, before averting his gaze away from her hazel eyes. Rey's smirk faded.
"What is it?"
"None of your business."
"What is it?"
"I said, none of your business."
Rey crossed her arms, as his sudden snarky attitude. Was he playing some sort of game on her? Probably. Rey didn't like one bit of it.
Kylo picked up his guitar, and started to put it back on his case. "What are you doing- Kylo! We haven't practiced yet." Rey protested, but was silenced by Kylo's defiant stare.
"No. I doubt we'll be able to practice here. How's this. It's a Saturday night, and my parents are out. Do you fancy some dinner?"
Rey stared at Kylo. Was he asking her out on a... date? No, it was impossible. He was still with Padmé... right?
"Don't you have other plans? Like with Padmé?" She suddenly blurted, and immediately, Rey wanted to take back what she just told him. Kylo looked surprised.
"Oh! Uh, no. Padmé's busy tonight. So I was wondering if you would be available tonight?"
Rey shrugged. "I'm not sure. Unkar wouldn't normally allow me to go on... dates, if that's what you're going to call it." Kylo stared incredulously at her.
"A date? Of course not! I'm in a relationship, Rey!" He snapped, his eyes hardening into a cold stare, before softening. "Oh, um, I'm-"
"You don't need to apologize, Ren." Rey told him coldly. The nerve of him to snap at her like she was his personal dog. It annoyed her a tad lot. Rey was done being bossed around.
"If that's what you want.. Rey." He returned her cold reply, with one of his own, and exited the same way he came into Rey's room.
Alone, Rey was exposed with her dangerous mind and its minion thoughts. She didn't like it. How could he. And the nerve of Rey to think they were actually friends, now.
Rey sighed, as she looked out the window. Droplets slightly tap on her window, creating a soft knocking sound. It reminded Rey of how Kylo climbed up to her room. It made her wonder to how Kylo knew where her place was.
Most probably he asked Gwen. For the love of God, Rey shouldn't relay personal stuff to Gwen anymore. It was personal for a reason.
The song was still playing on loop, and Rey brushed her phone aside, that it dropped to the floor with a loud thud. Rey just shook her head in dismay and disappointment.
Maybe we aren't Perfect Strangers after all.
Maybe we are just project partners to one another. Nothing more than that.
Yes! Yes! Yes! I have gotten over my writer's block because of my boredom (can you explain it? 😂) and my desire to write for you guys! I hope you'll enjoy this kinda short chapter. There'll be more in the future. Also, dedicating this chapter to ThatBubbleGumBxtch , who has been gone from Wattpad for quite a while. I miss her stories already! Please come back! Vote and comment!
