jae is an incredibly confident person. it's most notably shown through his willingness and eagerness to show off his body whenever given the chance, but it also extends to his personality and opinions. he's very self-assured and steadfast about what he believes in, and often unwavering on those things. it has, at times gotten him labeled as stubborn, which he is. when he makes his mind up about something or decides to do something it is almost impossible to get him to change his mind. he likes to do what he wants when he wants, and rarely worries about the possible consequences. often leaving the people around him guessing on what his next move is.

he tends to get away with it easier than others might because of how clever he is. he's been called a charmer and a smooth talker, both of which describe him well. though beyond general flirting, he's good at talking in general and is extremely knowledgeable on a plethora of different topics. he's the most up-to-date on politics and what's generally going on in the world and is the best at articulating those thoughts and staying very level-headed when talking about more divisive topics. he's the one who tends to surprise the hosts of the shows he goes on; constantly getting surprised comments about how intelligent he is, and how easy he is to conversate with.

growing up with a well-known and loved father led to him having a bit of an inferiority complex; constantly feeling like he was being compared to his father, and he was worried that was an expectation he could never live up to. and that fear ultimately turned him into a very hard worker. but, when he doesn't reach the level he feels he should be, he gets easily frustrated. which used to result in him flipping out at people, but he's learned more healthy ways to deal with it.

born to a psychologist and a member of the (at the time) very popular boy group s.y.t, jae has known fame for a long time.

his parents were together long before his dad became an idol, and decided to keep dating in secret when he was finally slated to debut. but three years into the group's active years his mom fell pregnant, which forced the two to come out about their relationship, which almost led to the group disbanding — though they ultimately avoided that fate and lasted for another three years. so, his early years were spent bouncing between a lavish apartment in seoul and visiting his dad in the various places he traveled with the group before they all moved into a larger space in seoul.

despite all of them living in the same home though, his parents were notoriously busy. with his mom's practice steadily growing and his father still actively in the kpop scene, he ended up spending most of his time with his grandma and a handful of nannies. though that isn't to say his parent didn't love or care about him — the two made sure to show up to all of the important events in his life. and it was after one of those events that he told his dad he wanted to become an idol like him, possibly an even bigger one, but his dad instead insisted that he focus on school and graduate before settling on anything. which he did.

in between the several things he had going on outside of school, he managed to put his head down and consistently earn top marks in school which set him up to be able to enroll in any university he wanted. but instead of doing that and picking a more secure path, he ultimately decided to follow his dream and by extension follow in his father's footsteps.

he managed to get signed as a trainee to smtown; the same label his father's group was under. with his father being a well-known person in the industry and a high-earning former artist of the label, he was well-received within the company. the coaches showed very clear favoritism towards him and management continued to heavily hint at their desire to debut him in a male group, which helped fuel his continued capacity to train.

after almost two years at the company, he finally found himself close to debuting. there was a possibility of a new group being created within the next few months, and he knew it was guaranteed a spot, which was a belief he shared with his dad on a phone call home.

he was expecting words of encouragement or at least advice, but he was instead finally told about the truth behind s.y.t's disbandment, which boiled down to severe mistreatment by the label. though the stories were surprising, he knew his dad wouldn't lie to him about such a serious thing, and knowing what had happened to his dad brought a sour taste to his mouth. so, less than a week later he decided to part ways with the label.

he spent a few days sulking in his room before he hit the pavement running again, his determination to debut only grew due to the recent setback, and ended up being approached by a representative of rebel entertainment. though he wasn't initially pulled in by the (at the time) small company, he found himself quickly finding its charm. on top of being promised a spot on their upcoming boy group, he was also taken by how much the people there genuinely seemed to care about him and the other trainees, which was the exact opposite of what he'd heard about sm from his dad. so, he ultimately decided to sign with them.

initially, he had a hard time adjusting to all the different personalities and not automatically being at the top of the food chain anymore, and it caused him to lash out at everyone around him. but, as time went on and he got to see who all of the boys and the staff truly were, he started to change his mind. it was evident that he wasn't the only person who worked hard, and everyone wanted him to do his best. and though he still struggles with those kinds of thoughts, he now tries his best to work through them and keep them from being outwardly displayed.

◎ he's been playing the violin since he was five after being given the option between learning that and the piano. in the beginning, he absolutely hated playing the instrument and complained about it whenever he was forced to practice, but his parents forbid him from quitting the instrument, much to his irritation. and his hatred for the instrument remained until high school; when he finally realized both the true beauty of the music he could make with it and how much being able to play the instrument impressed other people, and then he suddenly loved playing it.

◎ his eyesight is horrible. it's not something that's wildly known because most of the time he wears contacts, but there have been rare moments where he's caught wearing his prescription glasses, and even rarer moments where he's been caught blindly wandering around with no glasses or contacts in sight; even though he prefers being blind to wearing his glasses because he hates the way he looks with in them.

◎ he considers himself to be the biggest fan of his dad's old group. called s.y.t (also known as see you there), his dad's group was known for being quite extravagant and out there, their concepts frequently aiming to cause f.o.m.o in people (aka the fear of missing out). jae has always loved how unique all of their imagery was with its tendency to explore different cultures, plus he has a lot of good memories tied to the group.

◎ as of 2019, jae is the proud owner and founder of his a fashion design label. he's been into fashion since he was allowed to pick out his clothes, and he's been making and/or altering his clothing since he hit high school. it's his biggest passion besides music, and after working on various designs he finally founded his label; inyeon, a word relating to the ties between two people. he hopes that the label will help foster a connection between him and the people who connect with his designs enough to want to buy them, along with helping them feel more connected and confident with the world around them.

◎ though he's good at doing it, he absolutely hates aegyo. there's something about doing it, and any cutesy thing in general, that never fails to make him feel like he's a kid who's trying way too hard. though, despite that, he has never turned down a request to do it.

◎ in the early days of iMAGE, jae was known among staff and the members to be prone to sudden outbursts. one second he'd be sitting in a room silently while staring at a wall or pacing around their practice studio, and then the next he'd start yelling at the people around him and throwing various things across the room. it was something he eventually stopped and came to be extremely ashamed of, especially when a video taken by a former staff member during one of those outbursts was leaked to the public. but, he'd gotten help long before that video was released and had also apologized to and been forgiven by his group mates beforehand.

◎ he absolutely hates planes and has since he was young. the combination of being trapped in a cramped metal tube and being suspended hundreds of feet in the air was always something that terrified him. so, to keep himself from having a panic attack, he always takes drugs to either make him relax or completely knock himself out before getting on a plane.

◎ during his very first year as a trainee, back when he was still with the company his dad was originally with, he decided to become a vegetarian. unlike a lot of people he didn't do it for any particular reason, he kind of just decided it was something he wanted to try out and it's a decision that he's stuck with since. but it's not something that he likes to point out or draw attention so the fans only know because of how observant they are.

◎ though he rarely does so, he's probably the best cook in the group. since he spent so much time with his grandma when he was younger, he learned a lot of the dishes that she cooked and how to make his own. but these days he really only cooks for his family. he does love to bake though -- and both his group mates and friends regularly beg him to make his signature chocolate cookies, which had always been his favorite thing to make.

◎ he loves watching concerts almost as much as he likes performing at them, and is frequently spotted at them. it's the one place that he tries and keep his outfits as relaxed as possible because he doesn't want to draw any attention away from the performing artist, but he's also not the best at being low-key about anything so he's usually spotted at some point. which is why he also tries to get seats as far away from the stage as possible — so if he is spotted he will be less of a distraction than he would be if he were closer.
