saturn is most commonly referred to as the human embodiment of sunshine, which is probably the best way to describe him. he is very positive and energetic; constantly smiling and doing his best to keep everyone around him in high spirits. he's always seen happiness and positive energy as something that he can pass off to the people around him, which is part of the reason why he's so extroverted. he's very perceptive when it comes to other people's emotions and naturally gravitates towards people who are alone in a crowded room or people who seem like they're down for whatever reason in hopes that he can help brighten their day, or at least stop it from getting worse.

though despite a lot of people's belief that his constant positivity is an act he puts on for other people, it's not. he's a natural optimist and has always preferred to look at the glass as being half-full as opposed to half-empty, and is persistent in trying to get those beliefs to rub off on other people. but, he knows that's not something he can logically expect from other people. so, he tries to be very supportive towards other people and whatever they're going through, most often through being as affectionate towards others as possible since physical contact with others has always been his biggest way to show his love and appreciation for people; followed closely by being very attentive and always offering a listening ear to anyone who needs it.

which isn't to say that he doesn't struggle, because he does. depression and panic attacks are something he regularly deals with, but his biggest problem is his fear of disappointing others and/or failing. his dad was always really strict with him and often set his expectations at an absurdly high level, leading to his becoming very stressed and anxious. all he wants to do is live his life the way he wants to, but after his father constantly put him down for the choices he made, he now struggles with that. it's turned him into a hard worker and a perfectionist, which can be good, but he often pushes himself to the limit just so he can feel like he's accomplished something. because he really doesn't want to let his teammates down, and he also doesn't want to cause any extra turmoil to his family (even though he did just that the seconds he started training).

he definitely over-extends himself to the point of crashing and can be very impatient when it comes to seeing the results of what he's been working on and can become self-critical if they don't go as well as he sees them going in his head. and when he falls into these spirals, he becomes very insecure and, at times, self-destructive.

but, the members have helped him a lot with that. there has always been a massive emphasis on the group as a whole, specifically on the group not being a group if all the members aren't there. and every time he gets down on himself there is always someone there to help pick him back up or let him cuddle with them until he feels better.

[ ◉¯] ✧˖° MEDICAL CONDITIONS (IF ANY):

◎ depression
it first started showing itself when he was in his teens, though he always attributed the sadness to all of the pressure his dad put on him and having to deal with his parents not being together anymore. he'd go through periods where everything felt hopeless and just getting out of bed felt like a chore. but, he'd push through because that's what was expected of him.

he didn't realize how big of a problem it was until the world shut down and he was left alone with his thoughts. suddenly the sadness he'd been feeling felt a lot less normal and ten times worse than anything he'd felt before. he shut down for most of the year, which caught the attention of his group mates and resulted in them staging an intervention of sorts that finally got him to both acknowledge that he had a problem and take steps to get some much-needed help.

◎ panic attacks
he experienced his first panic attack right before iMAGE's first show, and it made him feel like he was dying. and while it freaked him out, he didn't think about it until the next one happened a couple of weeks later.

they don't happen incredibly frequently, but they happen enough that it's something he somewhat worries about. it mostly happens when he's super freaked out and overwhelmed, and never gets any easier for him to experience. all he can usually manage to do is remind himself that inevitably the feeling will pass, ride that feeling out, and then give himself time to relax afterward whenever he gets the chance.

saturn's parents were an unexpected match; the ceo of a tech company marrying a successful artist, but at the time it worked. his laidback personality balanced his father's intenseness and ultimately made his childhood a very good one. because while his dad was the kind of person who got on him and his older brother about his grades and made sure that everything at home was as perfect as it could be, his mom was always there to push for music, art, and anything else that saturn and his older brother seemed interested in because she was insistent that kids should have fun. which made the house chaotic at times, but somehow worked itself out. for a long time, the delicate balance was kept and they all managed to function as a somewhat normal family until his parents had twins and his father's business started ramping up.

as the stress started ramping up both at his father's job and at home, so did his father's strictness. the yelling that used to happen sparingly started becoming a regular occurrence. and by extension, his parents' fighting also started happening regularly; descending the usually calm household into chaos. and all saturn could do was keep his head down to try and make sure his younger siblings were shielded from what was going on since his parents and older brother were busy with other things, and try to meet the absurdly high standards his dad still held for him.

life was incredibly stressful at the time. barely a teen at the time all of this was happening he found himself trying to balance school, extracurricular activities, and his home life while also trying to keep up with his father's high standards. and on top of that, his dad was also starting to pressure him to take over his successful company after his older brother made it clear that he had no intentions of doing so.

suddenly he was being whisked away to his father's job whenever he wasn't doing something else, and the already mounting pressure was becoming intolerable for him. every wrong move was met with yelling and insults by his dad followed by his parents fighting over the way his dad treated him. and that continued until the couple divorced four years and one kid later.

though the divorce started amicable enough; it quickly spiraled out of control. the fights the two adults took part in were unlike anything that had happened before and frequently resulted in someone either storming out of the house or some breakable item being thrown against a wall. the fights mostly revolved around custody since each parent wanted full custody. but, ultimately his dad won that fight (mostly because of his financial situation), leaving his mom to only get the kids two weekends out of the month (excluding his older brother who chose to move in with her after everything was finalized). and with his mom no longer there to keep his father in check, things only got worse for saturn.

the depression he had already been struggling with previously was only exasperated by his dad's upped level of strictness. he was even more critical of everything his son did and frequently scolded him over any life choice he made that didn't align with the plans he'd already made for his son in his head. every attempt was made to pull him out of any creative activity his mom had pushed for him to be enrolled in beforehand while also forcing him to learn every detail of his business that he could.

and things got even worse after his dad got remarried less than a year after the divorce was finalized. his stepmom was a business person just like his dad who backed up everything her husband said with a smug smile on her face. so, all saturn could do was relish in the moments of escape he got at his mom's house and try his best to shoulder the weight of all his dad's expectations to keep them off of his younger sibling's back.

by that point, he'd resigned to his fate and accepted that he was destined to follow in his father's footsteps whether he wanted to or not. so, he completely gave up on the instruments he'd spent his childhood learning to play and singing, which he'd also been doing since he was young; leaving him as a shell of a person who spent most of his time sitting in his room in silence.

which broke his mom's heart.

in the less-than-preferred amount of time they got to spend with each other every month, saturn's mom spent most of the time they had together doing her best to cheer him up and keep him motivated, with his older brother chiming in frequently to remind him that their dad was an asshole who doesn't deserve to be listened to. and though it was slow going, their words did help him more than he realized at the time. it was what kept him going at the time and kept him from completely giving up (that and the awe his younger siblings always seemed to hold towards him).

it was all of that combined with his never-ending love for music that eventually pushed him to audition for rebel entertainment while out with his older brother, and much to his surprise he was accepted.

his mom was over the moon when he told her the news -- his dad not so much. the two got into a massive fight that ended in his dad threatening to stop speaking to him if he went through with joining the company. which he somewhat went through with though he still tries to convince saturn to abandon his dreams and go back to what he labels as the 'responsible and smart thing for him to do'.

but, as much as it breaks his heart to disappoint his dad, he also can't deal with the man's ridiculous demands. all he can do is put his all into the group and do what he loves knowing the members believe in him and that the rest of his family (minus his dad and stepmom of course) are standing behind him.

◎ contrary to his bubbly and positive personality, saturn is a massive horror fan. there's something about being scared out of his mind and seeing glimpses into the darkest and most messed up parts of humans that mesmerizes him. and, he thinks that some of the best movies and stories out there are of the horror genre because of how much more freedom you have in the things you can create. his top three favorites are the texas chainsaw massacre, the conjuring movies, and friday the thirteenth.

◎ he's known for constantly pulling the other member's shirts up on stage. it started as a joke during one of the very first concerts but after witnessing aura's reaction to the action it was something he started doing all the time. which led to the members always being on alert when he's near them during concerts.

◎ because his father dislikes the path he decided to take in life and a massive fight the two had before he left to start training, saturn rarely speaks to his dad and stepmom. it's a reality that really bothers him and something he's known to get worked up over but he's determined to keep going no matter what. so, he tries to just keep his head down and push through that. even though he hopes that someday his dad will suddenly change his mind and give him the stamp of approval that he's always wanted.

◎ he hates wearing shoes. he's hated wearing them since he was a child and is known to take them off whenever the staff isn't paying attention to him. which has led to a running joke where his shoes will end up in random places and the members will point them out and add it to the running tally of discarded and abandoned pairs of shoes that they've found.

◎ courtesy of his little sisters and their insistence on getting their makeup done by their older brother, saturn is a very talented makeup artist. and while he hates wearing makeup himself, he's been credited for doing makeup looks on the other members when their makeup artist needs help and is known for insisting both the members and his friends allow him to practice makeup looks on them.

◎ saturn is hands down the messiest member. he describes himself as someone who likes to live in controlled chaos, aka he knows where everything in his room is even if no one else does. and despite the protest he gets at times from his group mates that's how he likes it. he keeps things tidy enough that it doesn't spill into anyone else's space but beyond that, he's the kind of person who feels like there are a lot more important things in life besides cleaning; as long as he knows where his stuff is then everything is alright in his mind.

◎ he loves painting his nails and is known for changing them every comeback, if not more often than that. he thinks of it as an easy way to express himself and a pretty way to add more bright colors to his wardrobe. the default colors he doesn't know what other colors to use is either white or dark green.

◎ with his love of horror movies, saturn has a collection of horror memorabilia. his favorite to collect is funko pops because he likes how cute the figures are but he also has many posters and other types of action figures among many other decorations. jae once (somewhat) affectionately described his room as "looking as if a bunch of horror movies threw up on his walls".

◎ in 2021 saturn admitted that he had been struggling with depression though he hadn't realized the depth of it until he was forced to be by himself for an extended period. he explained how alone and helpless he'd felt in the first couple of months after lockdown started which resulted in him completely shutting everyone out. and though he didn't go into detail, he admitted that it led to him traveling to some very dark places in his mind and almost making some very irrational decisions. but, he followed up by saying the rest of the members had helped him realize that he wasn't okay and convinced him to get help instead of trying to deal with everything on his own — leading to him starting therapy.

◎ he's classically trained at playing the piano and can also play the guitar. though despite his talent in both, he always gets nervous about playing them in front of other people, especially in front of the other members. in fact, they only learned that he could play because grey walked in on him practicing one day by accident. but, his nervousness had eased up over the years and now he happily plays with the others whenever he can.
