01. Under These Neon Lights

The future, it's bright, neon lights, holographic displays, tall glass skyscrapers. In one of the towering skyscrapers that adorned the skyline of the metropolis in its peak at night, flashes can be seen inside, on and off the shadows of what looked to be mobians dancing around almost aimlessly, hopping around, tumbling some falling to the ground.

Inside tells a different story... Or rather expands it, bodies, blood, guns, shell casings all over the place. The sounds of gun shots abundant in the hallways of the glass covered structure, something was going down.

A knife is thrown at a badger dressed neatly in a black suit, it sticks out of his head as he collapses to the ground, a pair of white boots walks past the corpse, another badger comes out aiming a laser rifle and has his throat cut open but something that swings past his neck at a speed your eyes would never be able to keep up with.

Two more come out and fire at their assailants, one is riddled with pistol rounds and the last one with machine gun fire, both their corpses collapsing to the ground. Accompanying the figure in white are three more, one in green and black, sienna and yellow, and one in a caramel and light orange. All of them wore masks on their faces loosely based off Japanese kitsune ones, the three of them appeared to be foxes or wolves some sort of vulpes or canine.

The leader in white sporting the biggest tail out of all four of them, it was almost like a cloud with how fluffy it was. He pulls a kunai from his utility belt and throws it at a cronny standing in front of a door, it strikes him in the head before he even gets a chance to pull his pistol from his holster.

The assassin in sienna and yellow approaches the other guard at the door who drops his weapon on the floor immediately and raises his hands, praying he's not killed brutally like the others before him.

"Open the door" He says in an Australian accent, his mask looked like it was smiling a sinister smile, eye holes glowing sky blue.

Almost immediately he does, putting his hand on the biometric lock and opening it.

"Fuck off" The assassin in white says bluntly in an English accent, his masks eye holes glowing red as he stared into his soul.

Not sparing a second the henchmen runs off down the hall where the bloody body's and shell casings are. The four walk inside the room, creme coloured walls adorned with all sorts of expensive paintings and neon lights, a huge glass window facing the city in front of them.

Almost immediately they are immediately met with dozens of armed mercenaries, much more heavily armed than the ones outside, equipped with body armour and machine guns, they can see who they're protecting in the distance behind them. A bat in a fancy green suit.

"Really?" The one in green goes in a Spanish accent, her mask looked like it had a happy expression on it, her eyes glowing a vibrant pink.

"Really" The white one responds.

She grabs a little purple orb from here utility belt and throws it at the ground, purple smoke erupts, throwing fumes everywhere and kicking up a massive smoke cloud. The assailants take the opportunity to start killing the armoured soldiers who either die choking on the poisonous fumes, or get killed by the assailants. Some of them panic and fire into the cloud around them only to strike some of their comrades or hit nothing at all.

They're fast, smart, and efficient. It's not long before all of the mercenaries are dead on the ground either from inhaling the toxic gas or being brutally murdered by the gang of killers. The white one pulls a a dagger from his belt and a handgun jumping up on the desk confronting the target in the green suit.

"The hard drive... Now..." He says turning off the safety, loading the weapon and aiming it at his skull.

"The Four Seasons..." He says gritting his teeth and reaching behind his trousers for a small pocket pistol.

The white assassin fires at him, the round going threw his shoulder and throwing him onto the floor, he screams in agony as the killer in caramel picks up his weapon, her mask displaying more of a neutral expression.

"Yeah-" The assassin in white says, "That's us"

"To think someone would actually be insane enough to hire you freaks" He growls.

"Awww the psychopath with the stolen weapons tech is calling us freaks, that's adorable" The killer in white taunts.

"We may kill for a living... But that doesn't mean we're pricks who just care about money" The killer in sienna adds.

"Fuck you! The plans I have for this technology surpass even youre wildest dreams! I'll never give it to you" He screams.

"Pity... Spring, come here for a second"

The killer in green walks up to her comrade. While the white one kicks him down onto his back, pressing his heel deep into the bats wounded arm making him scream in agony yet again.

"It doesn't look like our friend here is being cooperative... Why don't you give him some truth serum"

"Certainly" She responds, somewhat peachy that she had the honour of ripping the secrets from the bats brain.

She picks a beige coloured ball from her belt and crushes it, kneeling down in front of the bat and blowing the sand like powder from the pellet into his face. The bat in a panic tries to keep the mixture from entering his lungs but with the other stepping on his shoulder, it just made it impossible to hold his breath and fight the pain.

It takes a moment of him writhing around on the floor in agony before the mix of toxins and chemicals finally begin to do their job, they're able to tell because his eyes look devoid of any resistance, his pupils larger than usual.

"Where are you hiding the hard drive" The white one asks.

"...The safe, behind the painting... To your left.."

"Autumn"

The assassin in caramel walks up the metal steps towards a painting of the bat holding a pair of flowers and moves it out of the way aggressively. Indeed there was a safe behind it, chrome coloured, looked like it was installed not too long ago.

"Passcode"

"8-5-7-4-2-9-3-6... ghhh"

She puts the code in and opens the door, inside the safe are stacks of cash, a fancy hand gun, bricks of cocaine and an orange hard drive it's outline glowing a neon red. She holds it out front for the others to see.

"Perfect" The leader says, then he looks down at the bat, the effects of the truth serum wearing off as he realises what just happened.

"Well as entertaining as this has been..."

The white one aims the pistol at his forehead, "...I believe it's time for you to die"

The bat growls and grits his teeth as he looks deep into the killers eyes as if they were trying to pierce threw the mask covering his face, "You little shits!-"

A gunshot rings out across the entirety of the buildings halls, following it the sound of glass breaking the echo from the gunshot still bouncing off the glass and concrete walls in the hallway as more armoured mercenaries make a mad dash to their bosses office... The only things they find however are their dead comrades, and their boss with a gunshot wound to the head... His killers long gone, having made their escape threw the large window facing out into the city.

"Damn it!" One of them screams, slamming his machine gun on the ground in anger.

---

At a large apartment block on the outside of the city, an SUV pulls into the parking lot, at that point it had started to rain and the rain was coming down pretty hard too, blue and pink neon lights from the club across the street shining down on them, their colours reflecting off their suits and masks as the rain pours down on top of them.

The four of them begin removing their masks....

The first one the girl in green removes hers, the pink lights in the eye holes turning off, she's a red fox with green eyes and a happy go lucky smile on her face.

The second to remove their mask is the one in sienna and yellow, also a fox with his brownish-yellowish fur and a cocky grin with blue eyes.

The third turns out to be a wolf with brownish coloured fur, shiny piercings lining her left ear as she looks at her comrades with the same neutral tone as that on her mask, her eyes a radiant shade of orange.

And lastly, the leader who removes his mask revealing his tired red eyes, white fur, piercing red eyes, a neutral frown on his face, piercings of a red diamond, blue triangle, green circle and yellow square on his right ear. He looks like a mix between a fox and a wolf unlike the other three.

"Good work everyone" He says as he walks towards the apartment.

"Oh what's this? Big brother can praise our work after all" The brownish fox says, putting his hands on his face, pretending to be shocked.

"Shut up Summer" The white fox immediately snaps back.

Summer lets out a hefty laugh and walks up to his brother, "Oh Winter, I never knew you had a heart"

"There they go again" Spring goes.

"I complimented you guys this time because you actually all followed the plan and didn't question me or deviate from said plan"

"In other words you're just happy things went your way" Summer goes, crossing his arms.

Winter just glares at him and starts making his way towards apartment block 3.

"Jerk" Summer goes, following along, "He's acting like a jerk, don't you think Autumn"

Her orange eyes meet with Summer's blue for a second, she sighs and just follows Winter towards the buildings.

"Yeah I'm pretty sure you're the only one who thinks that hermano" Spring says, patting his shoulder, she follows behind Winter and Autumn into the building.

Summer growls quietly to himself and follows behind them.

The three of them reach a room in the basement of the housing project and go inside, Winter turning on the light revealing all their weapons, computers, money and a few trophies that Summer claimed possession of.

Winter turns on the computer and opens a chatting app, typing something, supposedly communicating to the client that had hired them to do the hit. Meanwhile the other change into their casual clothes getting ready to head home.

> Mission accomplished, pick up your prize in the commerce district at 1835. Have our pay ready.

It takes a moment but the client eventually responds.

> Impressive work, I will gather your money tonight. Looking forward to doing business with you again.

Winter closes the chatting app and looks back to see Spring had already changed into her normal attire, that being a fancy floral blouse and a skirt, Autumn wearing a leather jacket and a maroon turtleneck... Summer on the other hand was still changing into his casual clothes.

"You two are dismissed, so are you when you're done changing Summer" Winter says as he stands up and goes to another room to change his clothes.

"Call me if you need anything hermano!" Spring says waving to her brother while collecting her bag and going out the door.

Winter puts his hand up as he puts his gun on the weapons rack.

"Bye Winter" Autumn says quietly, picking up a motorcycle helmet from the table and leaving.

"Bye Autumn" He says putting his utility belt up as well.

"Bye Autumn!" Summer says waving at her.

Winter pulls his white trousers up and puts on a white turtle neck as well, tying the laces his trainers and walking towards the door.

"Are you ever gonna wear something that's not all white" Summer asks.

"Maybe when you stop wearing all those loud shirts" Winter says.

"H-Hey don't make fun of my taste in fashion! I'll have you know-" Summer shouts

"See you around Summer" Winter says as he opens the door and leaves.

Summer sighs as he finishes buttoning his shirt, "Still a massive wanker he is"

"I heard that" Winter says from outside the room

"Y-You were supposed to hear it!"

"Don't forget to lock the door little brother!"

"Oi!... I hate how good his sense of hearing is sometimes"

---

Winter rides the bus back in the rain to his to the area where his house is, a nice residential street in the northern part of the city, London Grove... A place where the wealthy and more fortunate live their lives, he even had access to the subway station a three minute walk from his house. Holographic street signs illuminated the corner where his house was, a nice big one with four floors, glass windows at almost every corner and a balcony on the third floor, a small pond with koi fish in the front.

There was a little bridge that went over a small mott surrounding the permitter of the house that led to the door of the home, he puts in a code and the door unlocks letting him inside, he closes the door and sets his bag down in a basket by the door, and his umbrella on the rack he had for umbrellas, untying his sneakers and putting them in the shoe rack with all his other shoes.

He goes into his living room and face plants into the soft sofa.

"I wish I could just stay home tomorrow"

Then he gets a notification on his phone, he pulls it from his pocket and unlocks his phone, when he sees who the video is in regards to his mood changes almost immediately. His eyes grow brighter, his large fluffy tail starts wagging, an excited grin appears on his face.

"Yes... Yes... Yes... YES! Finally, a new Tails Feed video!"

Winter immediately taps on it, seeing videos of the one and only Miles Prower, his idol, was the one thing he looked forward to every Friday night, watching his favorite fox fight big robots, take down villains, give technical advice, talk in interviews and go to conevntions to meet fans was one of Winter's favourite past times.

In this video, Tails was taking on a huge Eggman mech all by himself, protecting his wounded team mates.

Winter's eyes stayed glued to the screen the entire time watching as Tails jumped on the mech, the robot spinning around trying to get the fox off... The robot reaching around trying to get Tails off of it. Winter looks on in anticipation, hoping the robot doesn't grab Tails and hurt him some way or another. Eventually Tails grabs a panel on its back where it can't reach rips it open and starts cutting the wires, eventually shutting the mech down and causing it to fall forward onto the asphalt.

The crowd goes wild as Tails climbs on top of the mech wiping his nose, a confident grin on his face as he gives the peace sign.

"WOOOO!" Winter shouts excitedly, jumping up and down on the couch.

He sighs letting himself fall backwards onto the soft pillow like cushions looking up at the ceiling, "Being friends with someone as talented as you would be a dream come true"

Then Winter realises... "Wait... Isn't today Friday?"

He pulls the tab down on his phone to see and sees...

Friday, 10th October 2099
8:13 PM

His heart sinks, "Ohhhhhhhh fuck fuck fuck!"

He gets his shoes on and immediately runs out the door with his bag and his headphones and circle framed glasses, making a dash for the subway station, the rain isn't as heavy now but it's still enough to soak him.

"Ugh how could I have forgotten... Again! Alex must be losing his shit!" Winter says to himself as he taps his e-currency card on the reader and runs down the steps, narrowly missing a train that was sitting at the platform.

He sighs in relief and sits down on an empty seat, the train taking him back to the city wasn't full, only people going into the city for clubbing or for their night jobs were on board. It's a long ride as he spends his time reviewing something on a piece of paper... Song lyrics, positions, signs he was going to perform a song, sing one? A killer with a voice like heaven.

About 28 minutes go by until Winter finally arrives at his destination, one of the busiest parts of Nightstar City, it's beating neon heart slowing not even at night, he runs towards a restaurant, the glass covered in rain drops as customer dined to their hearts content, he bursts in three the door and goes past the receptionist.

"Late again sir?" She shouts.

"Yep!" Winter shouts as he goes, not even stopping to make eye contact with her.

She smiles and shakes her head, "Kids"

He navigates his way past the tables hastily, vibrant warm lights and glowing multicoloured neon hearts all over the walls as customers laughed, chatted and ate to their hearts content.

Winter goes threw the kitchen to a room, unlocking the door and going inside, his office, the office of the restaurant he owned. He dumps his bag and headphones on the sofa in the corner and gets a towel from a cabinet so he could dry his fur. Once he's done drying himself off he runs out of the office back into the restaurant going past the tables with all the hungry customers, approaching the door while looking at his watch.

Ahead is a pair of black double doors with two orange neon lights horizontally lined up each side, a display above letting customers know that the doors led to the Heartburn Lounge, the restaurants pride and joy, reserved for those who had a membership or a reservation.

8:43 PM.

"Hello sir!" An ocelot in a black suit says standing.

"Hey Alice!" Winter says going right past her, opening the doors and going on inside.

He runs threw the hallway, the security at the end letting him in, inside were a ton of people eating and chatting away, the walls were a dark grey, more neon melting hearts on the walls, the most vibrant one being where the bar was, in the center of the drink shelves was a large glowing purple one. The bartenders standing in front of it serving drinks to customers some of the best in the world, some of them wave at Winter as he scoots by, he waves back and catches a can of soda one of them tosses to him.

"Have a good show sir!"

"Thanks I will!"

Winter finishes pushing his way through the crowd and goes towards the large stage in the front of the lounge, everyone looking upon the stage with anticipation seemingly waiting for someone to appear.

Winter goes backstage and is met with a mountain lion in a suit and bow tie who's less than impressed that he's late... Again.

"Hi Alex" Winter says with a nervous grin.

"Come on dude" Alex says, still not impressed.

"I know, I know... Don't worry I won't ruin the show again with my tardiness" Winter says going to a rack with a bunch of fancy blazers, and picking out an all white one to match with his current outfit.

"You said that last time" Alex reminds him.

"Buh! Okay dad, I promise this will be the last time!" Winter goes, being as dramatic as possible.

"I hope you actually mean it this time" Alex says, tossing him a microphone.

Winter catches it, "You know I won't actually be able to promise that"

Alex sighs and just motions to the stage operator that Winter is ready to go on stage. Winter puts the blazer on and steps onto a platform.

"Everything is all set sir!"

"Good! Let's make this a show for the ages!" Winter says.

All the stage crew cheer as the platform begins to rise, Winter waving at them as it does. He chugs some water and takes some deep breaths, every Friday night was a night for him to showcase his surprising talent of sing and dance, his way of unwinding after a long work week whether it be running his restaurant or taking on jobs as a hired killer.

He smiles to himself as looks up watching the lights in the room dim, when the platform finishes rising the crowd cheers for him.

"Hello Nightstar City!" He shouts throwing his fist high into the air.

The crowd errupts, cheering him on as he looks onward for him, the music hadn't started but it was almost as if the cheers from all the fans was his pre game track.

"Ready to make some noise!?"

The crowd cheers even louder this time, some concertgoers throwing things up into the air, they seemed to practically he begging for the show to start.

The music starts and Winter starts singing, another Friday night of singing his heart out no big deal to him, given this was the highlight of his week... But for a familiar looking hooded member in his audience that night, a fox with blue eyes, mouth open in awe... It was the beginning of a special kind of relationship.
