THIRTEEN
Wong walked along the busy street of Hong Kong, the bustling of the night ever present. People chatted as they sat at small tables, some with plates of food in front of them. Spotting Kaecilius, he stopped, chest puffed. "Kaecilius."
Kaecilius stopped, both of his disciples on either side of him. "You're on the wrong side of history, Wong."
Wong planted his feet firmly on the ground, his weapon raised. Kaecilius and the two copied him, their facades not breaking. An unsure look ran across Wong's eyes.
Back at Kamar-Taj, Mordo and Amber stood in the Sanctum, debris and silence surrounding them. Stephen stepped through his portal quietly, his eyes focused on the floor. "She's dead."
"You were right. She wasn't who I thought she was." Mordo replied, his voice low and dour.
"She was complicated." Stephen sighed, watching Amber look at everything in the room except at him.
Mordo turned towards Stephen briefly before pacing around the room, avoiding the boulders of concrete. "Complicated? The Dark Dimension is volatile. Dangerous. What if it overtook her? She taught us it was forbidden, while she drew on its power to steal centuries of life."
"She did what she thought was right," Stephen said.
"Oh, to hell with that!" Amber shouted suddenly, making Stephen flinch. Her lip quivered as she looked away, ashamed.
"The bill comes due. Don't you see?" Mordo continued, his voice low. "Her transgressions led the Zealots to Dormammu. Kaecilius was her fault. And here we are, in the consequence of her deception. A world on fire."
"Mordo, London Sanctum has fallen. And New York has been attacked, twice. You know where they're going next."
"Hong Kong." Amber answered quickly, staring at the wall where Stephen's portal used to be. Stephen turned, walking up to her and standing between her and the wall, forcing her to look up at him.
"You told me once to fight as if my life depended on it because one day, it might. Well, today is that day. I cannot defeat them alone." he looked at Amber, then Mordo before creating another portal on the opposite wall. All three gazed upon it before rushing through.
Screams filled the air as people ran around. The three ran to the middle of the street, staring up at the wild sight taking place. Around them, water sprayed from a fire hydrant, fire was blazing in multiple stores, and cars were swerved off the road.
"The sanctum has already fallen."
In the sky, bright flashes of blue, red and purple swirled around, growing bigger and bigger.
"The Dark Dimension," Mordo exclaimed. "Dormammu is coming."
"It's too late. Nothing can stop it." Amber muttered morosely. Her multi-coloured eyes found Kaecilius and his two Zealots among the throng.
Amber turned to Stephen, as he looked back at her. "Not necessarily."
He repeated his actions from before; swirling his hands and activating the Eye. The talisman opened, glowing a bright, vivid green.
"No." Kaecilius mumbled, sprinting towards Stephen.
Stephen stuck out his arms, turning his hands. Everything slowed down suddenly. Kaecilius was inches away from impaling Stephen.
Amber and Mordo stared at Kaecilius with furrowed brows, too slow to react properly. The civilians around them froze in a running stance, and the dust in the air held in place.
Stephen's face twisted, pushing his hand out, reversing everything.
Water from the ground flowed back into the hydrant. A sign that was lodged into a car lifted from it, returning to the side of a restaurant. People zipped around, retracing their previous steps. Kaecilius returned to his position beside the other two.
Stephen quickly turned his hands to Mordo and Amber, taking them out of the spell to stand with him, within it.
Amber watched in amazement as Mordo displayed a look of disbelief.
More people ran by in reverse, clipping Mordo on the shoulder, nearly making him trip.
"The spell is working. We have a second chance!" Stephen stated, running past Kaecilius with Mordo and Amber towards the sanctum.
Stephen got bumped in the shoulder by a fireman. The force was so much that it turned him around, just to see a slab of metal flying towards him. He narrowly dodged it, knocking into Amber after.
He was suddenly sent flying back by Kaecilius, who somehow broke from the spell as well.
Amber grabbed his arm with her right hand, using her left hand to grip his neck and keep him at a distance. The two were hit by a wall reforming back to its original state.
Kaecilius grabbed her by the collar of her cloak, throwing her down onto the street, almost throwing her onto a moving car.
Amber stood with a wobble, stepping out of the way of another speeding car. She turned on her heel, watching Kaecilius jump towards her, striking her across the jaw.
Her body twisted around, and Amber nearly stumbled to the ground.
When she looked up, a flying car passed over their heads.
Mordo and Stephen attacked the other villains. Mordo hit a woman back, watching as she was taken out by a manhole cover. Mordo was struck down, staring at a woman slide backwards and fly back into her car, the windshield patching itself up.
Stephen watched an apartment building lift from around him like it never even happened.
Next was a bamboo scaffolding. Each of them used the tower to their advantage, grabbing onto poles of bamboo to hoist themselves up onto the tower. Mordo wrapped a lasso around the leg of the woman, pulling sharply. The woman swung around, hitting the wall in the building, trapped inside when the glass reformed.
The city built itself back up again, the blue and red in the sky slowly fading away. A sudden storm of dust filled the street. Mordo watched before leaping into the chaos.
Amber ducked, dodging a piece of stone flying past her. Kaecilius crouched behind her, standing to give a surprise attack. When his fist swung her way, her cloak shot up, absorbing the hit. She turned, her eyes widening in shock.
Kaecilius swung with his other hand, missing her as she ducked from him and struck him in the gut. He fell backwards, the dust storm disappearing.
Kaecilius grabbed Amber's arm when she went to hit him and yanked on it. She winced from the pain and retracted her arm, using her other arm other to block a second hit. She swung with all her might, striking Kaecilius down. Mordo ran up behind her, using his lasso to grab Kaecilius in mid-air and throw him away.
He landed on the wall of a building, just in time for the pieces to build up again, trapping him in.
"Thanks." Amber quietly replied, to which Mordo nodded back. All three looked up, seeing a skyscraper slowly rise.
As more debris lifted, Wong appeared from it, previously being trapped and killed from under it.
"Wong!" Stephen exclaimed, rushing to help him.
Wong jumped up from the pile, weapon in hand. Stephen quickly released him from the spell.
Wong looked around with mixed emotions before shooting Stephen a look. Stephen rolled his eyes. "Breaking the laws of nature, I know."
Wong raised his eyebrows, glancing back to the spot he was before. "Well don't stop now."
All four stood in a row, side by side, watching the sanctum slowly rebuild. "When the Sanctum's restored, they'll attack it again. We have to defend it. Come on!"
As they ran towards it, Kaecilius broke from the wall, quickly stepping onto the street and sending a wave of force towards them.
Stephen fell to the ground, the time spell breaking, making the green around his wrist disappear.
