Act one..... Twisted Wonderland

"Uuuuuunnnnnnnggggghhhhhh..........." I groaned, waking up to a brightly lit hallway as I held my pounding head in my hand. "What...... What HAPPENED.....? Oh no, AMAYA!" I gasped in realization, and leapt to my feet shakily to have a gander at my surroundings. My eyes darted around the area to see if I could catch even a tiny glimpse of my precious sister amongst the pillars of candy, toys that piled like mountains, and all sorts of other delights floating around me, but finding no sign of her my thoughts began to race. "No. No, no, no! Please, PLEASE don't be dead!" I cried to myself, running down the hall into a bigger room filled with everything in a child's fever dream! "AMAYA! MAYA?! Please, PLEASE answer me!" I called, looking under any spaces a girl her size could climb under, and looking around anything big enough to hide behind as my worries, fears, and thoughts jumbled into an uncontrollable cacophony when a small voice broke through. "Thyia? Is that you?" I heard it ask in a familiar tone; whirling around to find a small, timid girl with shimmering green eyes, and flowing, green hair of a slightly darker tint. Her skin was a nice chocolate color, and her dress seemed very winteresque from it's fluffy collar and hem mixed with a bright orange, reminding me of summer, and I blinked twice in awe before asking, "Maya?" "Wh-Who are you?" She asked, startled a bit by my sudden call of her name which drew me back in confusion. "Uhhhhmmm.... I'm Eleuthyia....? Isn't it obvious?" I asked, knitting my brows..... THAT'S when I got a glimpse of my own body..... Frightened, I observed my hands, whiter than snow, and practically took a double take at a nearby mirror like surface- I was completely void of ANY color! My eyes were a silvery gray along with my new, short hair, and my skin matched a sort of overcoat I was now in- covering a black, long sleeved dress that cuffed at the end, and gray, frilly lace at the hem. No WONDER why she couldn't tell who I was! "Oh my god....." was all I could say before clamping a hand over my mouth. "H-Have you seen Thyia?" "Maya, honey, I AM Thyia!" I explained, trying to come near her, but only making her jump back a little to keep her distance as she cried, "Prove it! Prove your my Thyia!" "Great... Just fantastic! I can't believe this is HAPPENING to me..." I thought as I sighed, and I began to count off, "I was born February second two thousand and five, I raised you as soon as you turned four because I got emancipation legally, AND I have this hairpin." I took my flower pin that she saw me get from the entrance to this strange place out of my hair to show her, making her gasp as she turned her head to show off the white and gold bow clip she had recieved in turn. Now recognizing one another, Amaya ran into my arms, and I swept her off the floor as I breathed, "Oh, Maya. I thought something bad happened to you! You CANNOT keep running away from me like that..." "I'm sorry Thyia, I shoulda paid attention to where I was going..." she replied, looking her sparkling green eyes up at me innocently. "What am I gonna do with you?" I asked teasingly, tapping her nose lightly and making Amaya giggle before she reached into her sleeve to produce a yellowed slip of parchment. "For me?" I asked, taking it from her to unfold; she shook her head in response as she simply corrected, "For US! I dunno who left it, only that it was next to me when I woke up." Huh? Who would leave a kid a note, then just dash off without so much as checking if they're okay? Unfolding the parchment, I was astonished to find very neat handwriting inside-making me wonder if there really WERE other people like us here as I read aloud:

"Tips for lost souls! All around Confettia you will be faced with all kinds of weird buddies. Do not be afraid! I'm certain they'd be delighted to assist you should you need it, and guide you on the right path. You've only but to ask!"

"Thyia, look! There's something on the back too, but I can't make it out." Amaya exclaimed, touching the back of the parchment gently to observe the handwriting. I flipped it over, my eyes immediately widening in discomfort as I read the words "See you soon!" with a drawn winky face beside the fancy text; my skin crawling while I quickly scanned to see if we truly WERE alone. "Sissy? Why are you so boring?" Amaya asked, touching the back of my hand curiously as I exclaimed, "Wh-What's THAT supposed to mean!?" "I'm all colorful and fun to look at, but you got only boring white, mucky gray, and inky black. Why?" I could only think of a suitable answer to give her as I, too, wondered why it was only me in this drab state. "H-How about we just look around, first. Y'know, kinda get a feel on this place, yeah?" "Oh, I already did that while you were looking for me. Come on! I'll show you what I found." Amaya replied ecstatically, taking my hand in hers before running straight towards a VERY pink corridor, with a single door locked by a pink and purple padlock. Did someone WANT us to stay out? But then, where were the other exits? WAS this the exit?! No, it seemed TOO simple to be so. Once we reached the door, Amaya pointed to the lock, and said, "Tap on it! Tap on it, Thyia!" "B-But it's a padlock, sweetie. There's nothing more to it than that!" "But sissy, it's PLASTIC!" "Excuse me? "Plastic"? As in Barbie doll plastic?!" "Yeah! I can't reach, otherwise I'd see if we could just twist the lock off." I approached the door, and reached up to grasp the bottom of the lock on my toes before jiggling. I was shocked when I didn't hear a metallic tinkling of metal, but instead a shaking of something inside a plastic shell! I yanked, tugged, even twisted the plastic lock with all my might, but it was no use.... The plastic held on as though it WAS metal...! "Thyia, look! Something is written at the bottom!" Amaya cried, catching my attention as I quickly observed the lock in my hands..... ""A key for me. A gift for thee. When you see your gift return it to me from thee". Christ almighty, what's THAT supposed to mean?!" I asked, running my fingers through my hair in frustration. "It's a treasure hunt, and this is our clue!" Amaya squeaked happily, playing hopscotch on the tiles beneath her feet as she continued, "Obviously we need to find a key somewhere in this room. And ANYTHING can be a gift if you intend it, Thyia! I found some toy piles along the corners of the room, maybe we can search there?" "That sounds like a great idea, Maya, but where do you suppose we start first?" "Let's start on the left side of the room, then we can work our way to the right side. It's like what you tell me when you help me clean my room, sissy! And the most important thing is to always-" "Do a little at a time.... I never thought you were listening to me when I say those things!" I interjected in astonishment, since my sister never really took advice from other people well- let alone RETAINED it! She simply giggled as she chirped, "I was, but I just didn't want to clean is all. I wanted to spend time with you!" I remained quiet as my jaw hung agape, and I could feel my blood slightly boil while I thought, "Oh well. At least she was honest with me!" "Heeeeyyyyy, we should just get cracking on finding the key right now, and play a new game!" "Really? What game!?" "The quiet one..." I grumbled, taking my sister's arm as she sulked, and reluctantly followed me to the upper left hand corner of the room. There, illuminated in yellow, sat a toy brick painted in an ominous red color, and I half wanted to know if it was TRULY paint when Amaya went to push it back. "Thyia.... Help me....!" She grunted, trying to lift the block that was twice her size, and I simply rolled my eyes at her obliviousness as I sighed, "It's plastic, Amaya. It can't be THAT heavy!" "Then YOU come lift it! I give up." She huffed, stomping the ground in defeat when I pushed her aside, and said, "Watch me." Boy.... Sometimes I can be REEEEEEAAAAAALLLL stupid, cuz when I went to pick up the seemingly weightless toy, it was glued firmly to the ground like a cinderblock in disguise! "Dang! Is it even PLASTIC?!" I heaved, making Amaya respond by sticking her tongue out at me before adding, "See? TOLD you it was heavy!" "And I told YOU we were playing the quiet game, if THAT'S the attitude you're gonna give me! Whatever, just help me move this..." Amaya joined my side, and the two of us began to push back on the block until it began to lift; the two of us together were able to push the block on its hollow side as we observed the area. "Welp... There's no key..." Amaya said downheartedly, making me slip a cuss word or two out before sighing, "Okaaaayyyy? Let's look down in the lower corner, and see what's there." "That's a dandee idea, but could I wash my hands off first? The paint came off the block onto my hands..." "Hm?" I observed my sister's hands as she outstretched them, chilled by the way the red took to her dark skin, and I quickly asked, "How in the name of Mary did you get so much of it on you? I don't even have a spec on me!" "Well that's because you sweated it off, sissy." "Eeeewww, WHAT?!" "You did Thyia! Touch it, and look." As she demanded, I pressed my hand against the redness of the block before looking at my own hand..... And once again, she was right..... I watched in horror as the paint slid right off my hand, like rain on a freshly waxed car..... What the heck WAS I?! Looking at her hands again, my sister approached me, and began to wipe her hands onto the front of my dress to clean them off as I shouted, "H-Hey!" "It's okay, Thyia. Your sweat is making it slip off your clothes too!" And the more I watched, the more I began to see the paint leave Amaya's hands, and slide off onto the floor.... What kind of Wonderland Hades is THIS?! "There.... All sparkly clean!" My sister cheered, holding her now spotless hands up to me when I grabbed her wrist, and scolded, "Do not EVER wipe your hands on me! That's BEYOND gross." "S-Sorry, sissy...." she stammered, and I let go of her before storming off. The next place we looked seemed to be a kind of toy train, with a puff of smoke coming from the floo; trying the doors I hoped that maybe I could find something inside the little box cars when Amaya peeped, "Thyia, I smell something sweet." "Really? What's it smell like?" I asked, entertaining her short attention span when I heard a loud clunking- making me stop dead in my tracks to check on her when I spotted her clambering towards the floo. "AMAYA! GET DOWN FROM THERE, YOU'LL GET HURT!" I screeched, watching her tiny frame wriggle her way upwards. "But I want the cotton candy, Thyia!" "WHAT COTTON CANDY?!" "The fluffy, sweet stuff coming from the train's head- it's cotton candy!" Amaya replied joyfully, reaching her hand out to take a tuft of the cloudy substance. "AMAYA, THAT STUFF COULD BE EXPIRED.... OR WORSE...." I stated firmly, putting my hands on my hips as I watched her wriggle back down. "Got some!" She called, holding it up triumphantly and making my blood boil as she beamed. I stomped over to my sister, tore the sketchy tuft from her hand, and threw it onto the ground as she cried, "H-HEYYYY! THAT WAS FOR US THYIA!" "WELL I'M NOT EATING CANDY FROM A PSYCHO, PRISON, AMUSEMENT PARK THING! YOU'RE FUNNY IF YOU THINK I WILL LET YOU AS WELL!" I scolded, stomping the tuft to oblivion before her eyes. Once I was done, I looked into her saddened eyes, and asked, "Did you look for the key, or did you waste time by climbing the side of a train car?" "I DID look! I REALLY did!" Amaya declared in defense, furrowing her brow before turning her back to me; sighing, I tried to calm myself down as I asked gently, "Maya? Could you PLEASE repeat the riddle again?" "NOT until YOU say "Sorry"." She grumbled, and I tried not to lose my cool on her as I reluctantly sighed, "I'm sorry for destroying the candy, could you PLEASE repeat the riddle NOW?" "The lock said, "A key for me. A gift for thee. When you see your gift, return it to me from thee"." She recited, turning back to me as she crossed her arms over her chest, making me run the words through and through- looking for SOMETHING to peice the puzzle with. "Maybe it's gotta be a SHAPE of a gift... Like the boxes you put toys in for Christmas, remember?" "I saw some toy blocks down the way. Do you wanna search there?" Amaya asked, pointing to the uppermost corner of the other side of the room; nodding while I offered her my hand to take. After all, she knew this place better than I did in the last half HOUR! After the long trek, she began to bounce around me while exclaiming, "Look, Thyia! Up ahead! The toy blocks I told you about!" "I see them, Maya, but you HAVE to be careful! They're bigger than you.... and pointier than Mount Everest!" I warned, walking with her to the exact spot where the wood blocks laid still and illuminated. Instructing her to stay put, I began my delve into the dangerous pile of wooded mass only to find that they were in fact NOT made of wood! Taking one up in my hands, and looking over at my sister, a smile spread across my face as I called, "Maya! Look out!", and threw the plush with all my might as she yelped in response. She lifted her arms to shield her head- making the prank all the more sweeter when a confused look took over; making me laugh when she exclaimed observantly, "This isn't wood!" She picked the block up, and threw it back at me with a giggle, and I teased, "Gotcha silly! They're actually just plush throws- stuff you can rest your head on, Maya." "Oooooooohhhhhhh. Can we take one? So we can nap if we get tired?" She asked, taking another to squish in her hands. "I'm not sure if we're GOING to get much beauty sleep this time around. Let's leave it here, okay? It'll be here if we come back this way, so we could pick it up then, alright?" I promised, but deep down something told me that this was FAR from over. In fact, this sickening feeling told me that something was JUST beginning, and the two of us were caught up in the ebb and flow! "Thyia?" Maya asked, hugging the pillow tightly, "I don't know if this helps, but I saw some present boxes near the trains at the entrance.... What if it meant a LITERAL gift?" "That could work. Come! Let's go back to the cotton candy trains- you on the left, and myself on the right." I agreed, nodding my head to her before running with her back towards the cotton candy trains. Beating Amaya to the entrance, I picked up a small package to observe when, like the block, I felt the soft squishyness of a plush pillow, making me ask, "Why are there so many pillows? Was all this MEANT for us? Were we SUPPOSED to indulge ourselves?" "I really wouldn't mind a bite of that cotton candy. I'm hungry, sissy!" My beloved sister whined, and just as she mentioned the idea of being hungry, my own stomach howled in my own ears. "I-I'm.... Hungry too..... But let's wait to see what we can find before we decide to trust tampered sugar. OH! LOOK!" I threw the pillow in my hand over my shoulder, and, like a scoop of pirate's gold, picked up a large key into my hands to show my sister as her eyes gleamed with a curious wonder. Returning the key to the door, I inserted the blade before turning the head of the key in the body of the lock until I heard a soft click. Excited that we were making progress, I tore off the open lock- letting the chains dangle as the door rose upward, and Amaya dashed onward cheering, "Come, Thyia! Let's see inside!" "Amaya! Wait up!" I cried, running in behind her to keep up when I froze to the spot in terror and mistrust..... Maya was only a couple steps ahead of me, seemingly JUST as wary as she looked back towards me while I found myself hypnotized by a room full to the brim with beautiful butterflies! Walking the narrow, purple path ahead to meet up with her I breathed a gasp of awe; taking my sister gently from behind as the two of us admired the blackened sky littered with the beautiful winged creatures! "Thyia? What ARE they? They aren't like other butterflies I've seen before!" Amaya asked, enthralled by the thousands of insects fluttering away above. "I-I don't know, Maya. But they're gorgeous, aren't they?" "Yeah.... They're all shiny, and glittery!" The two of us remained in awe, looking up at the magical looking butterflies breathlessly when a soft, melodious tinkling filled my ears; turning my attention back to the front of the path before us as dread filled my gut. "H-HUUUUUUHHHHH?!" I yelped, my eyes bugging out of my eyes as I clasped my hands over my mouth. Amaya's eyes quickly fell from the butterflies in the air to the very end of the path we stood on, and my blood ran cold when she breathed in awe, "Oooooooohhhhhhh.... A piano? Is this a play?!" She went to take a step away from me to attempt to make her way down the path toward the illuminated, foreboding instrument when I quickly regained my hold on her arm, and instructed, "No! You get behind me, and do NOT straggle- hear me?" "Thyia, it's only a piano.." "A piano in a DARK room filled with ALLURING butterflies, a CREEPY music box, and a SUSPICIOUS overhead light at the end of a LONG pathway! I've seen ONE TOO MANY horror movies to trust THAT, Maya." I replied exasperatedly, pushing her behind me before looking back down the path again..... What would happen if we reached the end...? Would we be killed? Snatched? Carefully, I treaded down the lit purple pathway- making sure Amaya was behind me every now and then as we slowly inched towards the mysterious instrument. Upon closer observation, the Piano was abandoned of a player, and for a nearly empty place like this- seemed quite clean! "Hmmm.... There's nobody around..... Nothing under or around the piano either...." I muttered, looking around the percussion instrument for any traps or substances to be alerted of, and I lightly pressed the A Key to see if it worked. The piano coughed a rugged, off tuned tone that drew me back in disgust because of how bad it sounded; looking up at my concerned sister with a shrug of confusion. Looking at my sister closer, I discovered that her eyes weren't looking my way..... And were bulging out of her head as she pointed silently above me.... No...... It CAN'T be...! I looked up with a gulp, discovering a decent sized butterfly half the size of my head, but in place of a thorax, abdomen, and head was a huge eye with a red iris! I opened my mouth to try and scream, but what came out was a weakly screech as I inched my way towards Amaya to protect her- the eye portion of the butterfly following me all the way in an abrupt silence that weighed heavier over us than a soaked lawn umbrella! There we stood, staring at the eldritch monstrosity as the light above us turned a ruby red color, but before I could tell Amaya to run, the light shut off, and a sort of hissing began to sound. Beads of sweat dripped down my face as I felt Maya cling to my waist-whimpering in the darkness in fright as I felt another presence with us, and just like that, we were presented with light again, only this time, the ruby light seemed to affect the butterflies as a Mozart like track began to play on the Piano in key, which was impossible as it STILL had no operator! The butterflies swirled with the tune.... Then formed a cyclone around the winged eye from earlier.... Finally, the cyclone dissipated; like a magician stunt, we were suddenly eye to eye with a stranger as they shouted in a deep, euphoric voice, "SUUUUUUPPPPPPRRRRRIIIIIISSSSEEE!" "EEK!" I yelped as my sister behind me gasped in shock, and the mysterious man came to approach when I spotted a loose board on the place where we were standing; snatching it, and pulling up with all my might before holding up the splintered plank like a knight with a sword. "S-Stop! Don't come no futher!" I demanded, stopping the shocked man in his tracks as I observed him closely, from his long, braided, white and pale blue streaked hair, to the very odd, yet fancy clothes he wore. "Oh my! That seems QUITE dangerous to go near- we can't have THAT now can we?" He chirped ecstatically, doing a little spin before covering his eyes. Who WAS this guy? Was he nuts?! He cracked his fingers to peek one of his mismatched eyes through, then he whipped them out to the side as he giggled, "Why, it truly WAS my imagination after all! It's not nice to scare people like that Thyia." He stuck out his tongue with a smile, confusing me as I took a look in my hands...... The board had....... "W-WHAAAAA?!" I cried, dropping a stuffed bear as it snarled like a real one, not noticing that I had dropped it between my sister and I. The bear cocked it's head with malice towards my sweet sister, making her whimper and cower as she slowly walked backwards to distance herself from the feral toy as the man behind me snickered. "M-Maya? Whatever you do, do NOT panic! It'll only attack if you run." I warned, but I knew Amaya too well... Amaya would absolutely run away once there was enough of a distance, and therfore trigger the bear to attack! My eyes darted around the room for something to eliminate the bear with, but ultimately finding nothing, I swallowed my fear of the toy long enough to charge. "Maya MOVE!" I shouted, and she sobbed as she circled around the feral teddy-allowing me to kick the toy as hard as I can in the stomach while it squealed, and sailed into the abyss next to us. Reuniting with my sister, the strange man clapped, yelling "Bravo, Thyia! Absolutely EXCELLENT!" "Excuse me?! YOU made that happen!" I replied firmly, pointing at him accusingly as I finished, "And how do you know my name? Who in the name of Paul McCartney do you think you ARE!?" I pressed my finger into his forehead while he sat grinning at me, then he took my hand and spun me around before answering energetically, "It's my JOB to know! And my business. Or is it the other way around? As for who I am- I am Deliriini, your tour guide through this magical, whimsically wacky world of Confettia!" Ripping myself from his unusually tight grip and rubbing my throbbing wrist I inquired, ""Deliriini"? What kind of stupid name is that? And what the heck IS Confettia?" "OUCH! What a hurtful thing to say, but alas. We are keeping our DEEEEEEAAAARRR audience waiting, so your silly questions are going to have to wait a bit...." this "Deliriini" replied before looking curiously behind my back...... At Amaya....... Fearfully, I tucked Amaya back behind me- praying he didn't see her, but it was too late as he had already made eye contact with the frightened youth at my side. "Oh-ho? What's THIS now?" He swerved around me in curiosity, trying his best to get a better observation of my sister as she whimpered, and hid from him. "Now, now, there'll be NO room for tears in THIS place! Here you are- a sweet little treat for a sweet little girl." Deliriini crouched to her height, sliding a weird looking lollipop from his sleeve to offer Amaya, who remained hesitant as she looked between the gift and the fool whose hand was outstretched to her. As if to make the offer more tempting, he slid the candy out towards her some more which left his hand near the bottom of the long stick of the sucker so their hands didn't inadvertently touch; beckoning kindly to her, "Don't be shy, Maya. After all, it's a tempting gift to be given- wouldn't you say?" At first my sister remained hesitant, looking from Deliriini's beckoning hand, to my frightened face before slowly taking the treat from the madman. "Th-Thank you..." she stammered timidly, taking the candy from Deliriini's grasp gently and holding it to her chest while he smiled in satisfaction. "H-Hey, you can't just give her stuff without my permission! We don't even KNOW you- for all we know that candy you gave her is POISONED." I stated firmly, crossing my arms as he clicked his tongue. "Why Eleuthyia, if I has INTENDED harm I'd have done so by now! No, no, your innocent sister is safe- at least for NOW! But, hmmmm, we can't put on our normal performance in front of such tiny eyes and ears, so I believe a compromise is in order." Deliriini brushed past me dismissively before removing his fancy hat, and crouching near Amaya's level with an unwavering smile. On instinct, my sister backed away from the mysterious man when he giggled, and kept a tone that would be alluring to ANY small child as he invited, "Come, come, sweet Maya. You're going to be my little helper for the opening act of our show!" "No she's NOT!" I countered, but when I tried to move towards her, my body was harshly yanked back! My eyes darted around the mysterious place to find the culprit while Deliriini beckoned for Amaya to come closer; watching cautiously as he produced three slips of paper in his hand and explained, "See these paper slips in my hand? Each one holds an activity for our dear audience and yourself to enjoy to your heart's content: One that is bold, one that is captivating, and another that is heart stopping! What I need from YOU lil' missy, is to take ONE of these slips from my hat after I mix them up." As he said this, he placed the paper into his hat to stir them around as Maya watched on in awe. Holding the hat towards her again, he asked, "Which will it be, I wonder? Aren't you curious as well Maya?" Remaining froze for a second, Amaya looked between myself, and Deliriini's hat, seeming both hesitant and drawn by the offer he gave; reaching into his hat to grasp a peice of paper before handing it to the Cheshire Cat smiling figure before her. He nodded his head before taking the slip gently from her- hoping not to scare her again as he opened the slip of paper up to read. His grin.... That creepy, AWFUL grin of his as he craned his head to look back towards me..... "Weeeeeeelllllllll theeeeeennnnn. Seems to me Maya likes a REAL show stopper! Your poison has been chosen, and Amaya's die is cast as her dear sissy takes a twirl on-" He snapped his fingers, and a blinding light shown down on me as I looked around in horror again- only this time I saw what was keeping me from Amaya.... Bounds...? To a wheel?! Where the heck did THESE come from!? My breathing labored, Deliriini produced a meat cleaver- larger than any I have seen, juggled it around him, and announced, "The wheel of death!" "Th-The wheel of WHAT?!" I screeched, shocked that he'd force my sweet sister to choose something so dark while he simply laughed. "Watch, and be amazed as I hit ALL the targets on the wheel with these deadly sharp cleavers!" "Pah, you jest! There's absolutely NO way those are real!" I screamed, trying to hide my fear as Deliriini approached, and guffawed, "Then you won't mind the one that peirces your heart?" "Try me... I know a bluff when I see one!" I hissed confidently- trying not to get sick as the sadistic cad merely giggled maniacly. I watched as he ran over to a table, and readied not one, but SIX cleavers! "Heh! I bet those are just plastic blades coated in shiny paint." I thought, smirking confidently as he produced an apple for Maya to see before cutting the apple..... Seamlessly..... In half.....! My eyes practically bugged from my head as I heard my sister gasp, and I desperately tried to free myself from my bonds as Deliriini readied his aim, and threw the cleaver. Screaming, I moved my head to the side just as the cleaver wedged itself into the rubber of the wheel behind me- nearly cutting a lock of hair as I squealed, "Watch where you're aiming! You nearly got me..." ignoring me, he readied the second and third, juggling them both before dancing, and throwing the sharpened blades towards my body as I continued to yelp. "B-Be careful Thyia!" My sister cried worriedly; making me cry back out in terror "YOU ACT LIKE I HAVE CONTROL RIGHT NOW, MAYAAAAAAA!" as Deliriini readied the final cleaver. He smiled, but his eyes seemed more sinister as the cad readied his aim once more, pulled back, and threw the blade..... Directly at my chest as Amaya screamed my name in fright, and the world around me spun into blackness as Deliriini cheered. Why.....? WHY.....?
