PEACE

Emilia sorted through the mail, placing the junk mail, bills and small packages into separate piles on the coffee table. There was one that didn't quite fit. Her name and address were handwritten on the manila envelope, so it was a personal letter. She couldn't think of anyone in her life that would send her a handwritten letter instead of just sending her a text or a call.

What's the worst it could be? A death threat? Anthrax? Only one way to find out. She cautiously opened the envelope, taking a tentative glance inside. No powder. Not poison, probably. Just a piece of paper. She could see her name, in a delicate and unfamiliar handwriting. Emilia could sit there and analyse the writing for hours and put her expensive psychology degree to some use, or she could just open up the letter and read it.

She could feel the phantom disapproving glare of her psychology professors as she unfolded the letter.

Emilia Flores,

I will never know you, I honestly do not want to know you. Now, nothing will ever change how much I love my daughter. I wish no death, no pain, no torment, no suffering, upon Lucie. I only wish salvation upon her. I only wish for her to someday repent. I love her, I sincerely missed her when she vanished. I don't understand why she turned away from the light of God. I never will. But, before I die, I wanted to thank you. Laura has told me a little bit about you, how you were the one who took Lucie in. I don't know how you treated her, but Laura was kind and showed me some pictures of Lucie now. She looks so happy. She also showed me some pictures of Lucie as a teenager, with you in them. She looked so happy. So, Emilia, thank you for what you did for my baby girl.

Sofia David

Now, how the fuck was she supposed to react to that? Anthrax would've been easier.

Pros:
- Sofia still loved Lucie
- Sofia didn't want anything bad to happen to Lucie
- She didn't seem to hate Emilia
- She didn't want to know Emilia. Thank God, because Emilia had no clue how a conversation with Sofia would go down.

Cons:
- Sofia still wanted Lucie to repent for her sins
- Sofia still didn't understand why Lucie left?
- She seemed a bit suspicious of Emilia

Well, according to that perfectly normal pros and cons list, the pros outweighed the cons.

Time to call Lucie!
