Hongjoong's pov
"We need to get more clothes for Yeri; she's out-growing almost all of the outfits we have." I was folding laundry while Mingi and Yeri played on the carpet beside me. Yeri was on Mingi's back as he carried her around.
"Oh, we do? You're growing so strong, pumpkin," Mingi said, bringing Yeri in front of himself. Yeri laughed and wrapped her arms around his neck.
"Yeah, you're getting to be so big and strong," I said, gently caressing Yeri's round cheek. Yeri smiled and reached for me, which led me to take her into my arms.
Yeri kissed my cheek and laid her head on my shoulder comfortably. I smiled and gently caressed her hair, then kissed her cheek in return.
"I think I'll take her to the mall, Min. Do you wanna stay home or come with us?" I asked, looking towards Mingi. Mingi smiled softly and stood up from the carpet.
"I think I'll stay home; work with the gang a bit while you two are away from it all. Be safe," Mingi said, kissing my lips and Yeri's cheek. Yeri kissed Mingi's cheek before laying back down on my shoulder.
"Make sure to take care of yourself, too, Min. We need you," I said, kissing Mingi again before walking towards the front door.
"I will. I'm just a call away, okay? I'll drop everything to be beside you again," Mingi promised. I smiled widely as I left our house. I saw Yeosang and Seonghwa pull in the driveway together, bringing another wide smile to my face.
"Uncles Yeoyeo and Hwa are here. Do you wanna see them before we go?" I asked my newly three year old daughter. She nodded and stayed in my arms.
"Hi!" Yeri exclaimed as the pair of men exited the vehicle. They laughed softly and quickly came towards us.
"Where are you heading off to missy?" Seonghwa asked.
"The small!" Yeri exclaimed, making us hold back laughs at her little mistake.
"It's the mall, sweetheart. There's no 's'." I explained. Yeri nodded.
"Mall!"
"Well then, since us uncles can't go with you, make your daddy get you some toys, okay?" Seonghwa said, knowing Yeri's room was overflowing with stuffed toys already, but none of us cared as long as she cared for them.
"Who's gonna pay for her spending spree? I'm already having to get her a new wardrobe," I said teasingly. Yeosang scoffed and took one of my hands in his, slapping a credit card in my hands. It held Mingi's name on it.
"How did you-"
"It's our "company card" Joong. Now Mingi can stop asking for it back," Yeosang said, rolling his eyes.
"But won't he-"
"Joong, you're dating. He would buy you the moon and all the stars if they were for sale."
"He loves me that much?" I asked softly. Yeosang nodded.
"Now, hurry back, please. I wanna spoil Yeri, too," Yeosang said. I grinned and side hugged him.
"Thank you, Yeo. See you soon, Hwa," I said before turning to get Yeri buckled in her car seat.
"What kind of clothes are you wanting, Yer-bear?" I asked. Yeri didn't seem to hear me as she played with the stuffed moose she kept in the car.
I smiled softly and continued the drive.
As we picked out clothes together, I noticed a man watching us from the corner of the store. I didn't think a lot of it, but still sent Mingi a message saying we were paying then would be home soon.
Yeri and I went back to the car with her clothes in tow, stuffing them into the trunk before I buckled her into her seat.
"June's missed you, Hongjoong," a voice said from behind me, making me jump into my seat and lock all of our car doors. I quickly started the car and sped out of the parking lot before Yeri or I could get hurt, but regardless we were followed.
"Hey, Mingi, we have an issue," I spoke into the phone, mg voice wavering a bit as I sped down the road as safely as I could.
"What?! What happened? Where are you two?" Mingi exclaimed. I heard as a chair scraped against the ground and other voices began speaking in worried tones in the background.
"I- I raced us out of the parking lot of the mall, and I'm trying to get back to Seonghwa's since his house has police officers posted there. I don't think we'll be able to make it, but I will not go down quietly. Where's the gun in this car?" I asked, quickly looking into the rear view mirror at my daughter, who had tears racing down her cheeks.
"Daddy! Too fast!" Yeri yelled sobbing profusely as she watched trees pass rapidly by her closed window.
"Shit, they're starting to shoot at the tires," I exclaimed, still racing down the open highway. Spotting a dirt road I knew as a shorter route to my best friend's house, I sharply turned onto it.
"The gun is under the seat- you won't be able to get to it while you're driving, Joong. I'm- I should've-"
"No time for apologies. I love you, but I'm getting my daughter somewhere safe. I'll find you again when we can." I hung up the phone and turned onto another dirt road, finally losing the car behind Yeri and I. I slowed down a bit but continued driving.
"Yeri, are you okay?" I asked once I found a small clearing in the woods. I parked the car and got out, knowing the car would be way too loud to continue in.
"Daddy, scare," Yeri said, her tears finally calming down. I picked her up and put her on my hip, then collected the gun from under the driver seat. It held thirteen bullets. Hopefully we wouldn't even need one, but better safe than sorry, right?
