Third Person POV

"I am his responsible party." Mean announced to the lobby receptionist. "I need to get to him right away."

"Let me notify the ER nurse," the lobby receptionist said.

Mean waited anxiously while the receptionist contacted the ER nurse.

After a few minutes of waiting, the receptionist announced to the ER nurse that the responsible party for Plan was in the lobby and wanted to see him.

When the receptionist put the found down he said to Mean. "The ER nurse said that you may come in to see him now."

"Thank you," said Mean as he followed the receptionist to the entrance of the ER.

Mean was escorted by one of the ER nurse assistants to the cubicle where the ER nurse was making the last few finishing touches to the bandage around Plan's head.

Plan's eyes widened upon seeing Mean walk into the cubicle. He immediately stood up from the bed and rushed to hug Mean tightly.

"Careful now," the nurse cautioned Plan.

Then the nurse said to Mean, "I will hand over to you the aftercare instruction papers and wound care materials in a plastic bag and I would like for you to sign the ER discharge papers."

When everything was taken care of and Mean led Plan out of the ER, Plan was about to speak but Mean said, "Ssshhh, let me bring you to my car first and then we will talk there."

Plan nodded obediently and walked silently with Plan towards the parking lot.

"So what happened," Mean asked after he made sure that Plan was settled comfortably in the passenger seat beside him.

Even before Plan started talking, tears started to form in his eyes.

"He rejected me," Plan said quite simply.

"Who rejected you?" Mean started to feel upset.

"Marc!" Plan exclaimed in a hurt tone, "He was playing hard to get! I thought that because he brought me to his apartment after dinner, something was going to happen between us but when I leaned to kiss him he pulled away, that bastard!"

"Plan!" Mean scolded Plan. "You can't go around expecting people to be intimate with you just because they brought you to their apartment! And how did you get that wound on your forehead?"

"I ran out of his apartment but because my tears were blinding me, I lost my footing and fell and hit my head against the corner of the curb outside his building. My head was bleeding badly so I called for a taxi to bring me to the ER and that's how I ended up here."

Mean kept shaking his head throughout Plan's story.

"Do you have anyone at your place who can help you change the dressing on your wound tomorrow?" Mean asked.

Plan shook his head.

"Then you better stay with me at my place until your wound heals," Mean declared, already starting his car engine and driving out of the hospital parking lot.

When they reached Mean's apartment, he told Plan to make himself comfortable on the couch while he read through the ER's aftercare instructions.

"Your hospital paper says that you must rest for a week before you can go back to work," Mean said. "I will take care of calling Chao to let him know that you won't be able to do your field reporter duties until then."

"I'm hungry," Plan declared.

"Let me fix you something to eat and then I will make the call to Chao," Mean said, walking into his kitchen and taking a loaf of bread from the bread basket.

Plan gratefully ate the French toasts and drank the hot cup of jasmine tea that Mean prepared for Plan.

When Chao got the call from Mean and heard what happened, Chao offered to take Plan to his place and to take care of Plan's wound.

"No, no, no," Mean protested strongly. "He's doing just fine under my care."

"Okay," said Chao, "but right now I'm coming to your unit to see how he's doing anyway. And then we can make him choose where he wants to go from there."
