deep down

Jeon Jeongguk excels in everything he does. Every time he attempts to do something, it always ends up being a success. The first time he tried horseback riding, he was able to tame the horse. The first time he went fishing, he got four catches. Whenever he plays Tekken at the arcade, he always wins. His peers call him golden, because apparently, everything he touches turns into gold.

The only thing he isn't good at, however, is avoiding Park Jimin.

After class, he attempted to stay an hour late in the library to do an advanced reading. When the librarian kicked him out, he stayed in a cafe for another hour until he decided he missed the comfort of his bed, so he walked for the next 30 minutes towards his and Lalisa's shared apartment. By this time, he had hoped that Park Jimin already left and he'll have the place to himself.

But as funny as it is, fate doesn't work that way.

Now he's stuck here, sandwiched between Lalisa and Park fucking Jimin looking like a sore thumb. Korean dishes were laid out nearly on the table, and as much as he wanted to eat, he just couldn't find his appetite.

He knows he should've just ran to his room as soon as he arrived here, but no, he just had to greet Lalisa without knowing that Jimin is still here. They both greeted him with smiles on their faces, and Jeongguk just hates how Jimin is so effortlessly charming that Lalisa almost squealed when he smiled at Jeongguk.

"Who's in charge of your group, though?" Jimin is asking. Jeongguk shoves a dumpling to his own mouth. Unlike Lalisa, it seems like their previous dinner date didn't affect him as much. He's calmer, more sure of his actions.

His roommate lightens up, and Jeongguk suddenly feels pissed. "Oh, it's Hoseok! I'm lucky to be a part of his team, he's really good."

"I know, right?" Jeongguk has the urge to kick Jimin's foot to see how he would react. "Modern dance is fun and all, but I would like to try a bit of hip hop, too."

"You can join us, I'm sure Hoseok will like that," Lalisa suggests that Jeongguk almost groans. Why? He internally screams.

"Nah, it's fine, Lis," Jimin declines, thankfully. "So, Jeongguk, what do you do?"

He almost chokes on his radish. "Hm? Ah, I'm taking film." Acting nonchalant, he does a shrug to pretend that he doesn't want to bang Jimin's head on the table.

"Wow, that's nice. Don't you dance?"

"Me? Dance?"

"Shut up, Gguk." Lalisa waves him off and he could practically see her eyes flutter when she turns to look at Jimin. Disgusting. "He used to join the dance troupe back in high school. He's really good."

"Then why didn't you audition?" Jimin asks, brows together. "You have a good form, you know. You look like one of those b-boy dancers."

"Didn't feel like it," he explains simply, not wanting to talk to him any longer.

"He's just a sore loser." His roommate snorts, emitting a laugh from Jimin.

Great, now he's being made fun of.

Halfway through the dinner, Jeongguk decides he couldn't take it anymore. Jimin's laughter combined with Lalisa's just made him feel very out of place. He didn't participate in their conversations, seeing as he feels like an intruder, so he just sat there and kept his mouth shut.

He feels like he shouldn't even be here.

"Hey," he announces to no one in particular. His roommate and Jimin were still talking about some dumb  security guard, so he adds, "I'm going somewhere. I'll be back."

Only when his chair creaks and he's almost at the door that Lalisa finally notices him.

"Gguk, where are you--"

Jeongguk doesn't let her finish, shutting the door immediately. He needs air.
