FOURTEENTH CHAPTER
2014
"maybe when the time is right, you will find me again."
//
"thank you for picking me up."
Sahar grins in delight as she links her arm with Jungkook's.
the two of them make their way to a widespread restaurant. the place is buzzing with tourists and visitors as they're taken to a certain table, handed detailed menus in their hands, ready to enjoy their food on a lonely, frosty and lively night in Malta. it's the perfect place to be.
Sahar and Jungkook stand in the prolonged queue, still linking arms as they chat to each other in a friendly manner. to others, they look like a couple.
the female spots outstanding Hoseok rushing across tables, handing out cold, icy drinks and plates of sizzling food as he works hard. he's always been passionate in everything. Sahar waves her hand at Hoseok, hoping he'll take them to their dinner table.
he stops, acknowledging her before shaking out his thoughts. she'd love to know what he thinks of her. Hoseok approaches Sahar and Jungkook with a plastered smile and a very warm welcome. "table for two?" he asks, cheekbones glowing as he picks up two menus.
Jungkook and Sahar take a seat at the bustling restaurant. Hoseok places their menus in front of them politely. "don't drink too much." he whispers in Sahar's ear, smiling cheekily- she feels warm realising he knows her.
Jungkook is busy analysing the menu, finger trailing across it as he reads everything. Sahar stares at him, leaning her head on her palm- wow. "what do you think of the waiter?" she seeks, finding it hard not to mention her past life, including how Jungkook and Hoseok had a fabulous, celebratory friendship.
Jungkook continues to look at the menu. he didn't think too much of the polite waiter- he normally keeps his distance from people. socialisation is too much of an effort for the man. Sahar is an exception. "hm? he's cute." he shrugs.
Sahar nods- Hoseok is. "it seems like you two would be good best friends." she asserts in amusement. if only you knew Kook- he is your best friend. you're missing out on so much delight.
"you're strange Sahar." Jungkook finally looks up at her, hands placed delicately on top of the menu. his dark eyes bore into hers, the skyline of Malta reflecting in shine behind him.
"i'm sorry." Sahar mumbles, now looking away from him. let's look at the menu- she tells herself ... beef, chicken, lamb, noodles, pizza, pasta-
Jungkook reaches out to place his hand over hers. she jumps, startled as his soothing, warm touch causes a million, vibrant butterflies to go crazy in her hungry stomach. "don't apologise." he murmurs confidently, eyes twinkling as gold specks appear. "i like you." he admits in a gentle, calming tone.
"i like you too."
the destined couple enjoy their dinner whilst they stare at the ocean. it runs smoothly as they devour the sizzling, delicious food and tip the waiter. Sahar almost forgets what she needs to do.
"let's take a picture with the stars later." Jungkook this time, decides to link their arms as they stand up, ready to leave the restaurant. their plates are clean and their stomachs are full- they're both happy about their night.
"did you bring your camera?" Sahar asks with a smile.
"of course."
Sahar excuses herself, telling naive Jungkook to wait for her at their table as she hurries to the tidy bathroom. let's go- she whispers, determined. this is the most emotional and physical work she's ever done in her life.
when she arrives back, she grabs a random, freezing drink from Hoseok's silver tray when he isn't looking. Sahar's overwhelming heart is doing somersaults of nervousness and guilt- she doesn't want precious Jungkook to hate her but it's what she must do to move on. Namjoon's advice should help.
she walks towards double denim dressed Jungkook with her heart hammering against her chest. but before fierce Sahar can even make the move to spill it over the boy, he notices her first and takes the drink out of her hands before taking her outside- grinning and shouting a thank you at cute Hoseok.
Sahar is alarmed and bewildered. what, how? she groans. "i was going to drink that." she makes up an excuse, noticing Jungkook's hand around her wrist as he takes her to the sea edge.
oh well- slips from the buskers pretty lips.
this isn't good- Sahar thinks, she has to come up with something else now. but her intentions fade away when she notices the gorgeous view.
Sahar tilts her head and makes wakeful, mind blowing and full Jungkook stand against the banister, the black, windy ocean behind him. she takes his big camera out of his hands and lifts it up, ready to take the most perfect picture.
"wait-" bucket hat Jungkook stops her and pulls her by her hand again, so naturally that it makes her squeal internally. "i want you to be in it with me." he mentions, balancing the camera on a stable, flat faced rock.
"get over here." Jungkook grins, happiness lacing his tone as he pulls Sahar tightly. the two of them are glued to each other's side as the girl wraps her arms around Jungkook's small waist.
his hugs.
Jungkook wraps both his lengthy arms around her neck, pulling her flush against his chest as he squeezes her. the proximity is embraced with fondness as they hold each other closer.
as the camera clicks, Jungkook surprises Sahar with a kiss on her hair. her heart drops and she's certain it's impossible not to love the man he is.
when they look at the saved photo, they both giggle with bubbling euphoria, their stomachs full after their dinner as they accidentally touch hands. Sahar notices the prominent stars in the night sky, in the picture, but also in the depth of Jungkook's brown eyes.
//
Sahar comes back to the hotel, ready to hide her giddy emotions.
Jimin can't know. then she stops herself- do i really care about his feelings? Sahar shakes her head, feeling strange about how attached she has become. she used to dislike him and now she's considerate of him? damn.
Sahar never knows what to expect when she comes back into the hotel room. she opens the door with shaky hands and immediately finds her boyfriend walking away from the window in silence. it seems that he was gazing out of it with the same frown on his round face.
then it hits Sahar and she bites her lip in anticipation and nervousness. Jimin must've seen Jungkook walking her back with linked arms and happy smiles. she stands still, watching as Jimin approaches her with steady steps.
the blonde haired boy stares into Sahar's green eyes with unknown feelings. "give me my ring back." Jimin states. the blank emotion on his usually cheery face makes her shiver.
i mean, it was a nice ring... Sahar gulps harshly. she slides the rich diamond off her finger before placing it in Jimin's small palm in still silence.
Jimin scoffs as he clasps the ring in his hand, staring at it with deep sadness and anger. Sahar feels terrible. "you're not even going to deny the fake love you felt for me?" he questions, unable to believe that Sahar could be so oblivious and deceiving. he feels played with.
Sahar wants to tell him the truth, not break his heart but it seems that she's already done that. "i'm sorry Jimin." she whispers, knowing it isn't enough. why does she feel such strong, genuine sensations? this isn't her life.
"that isn't enough."
Sahar forces herself to look at Jimin, hoping he can see some of the sympathy she feels. but he looks right through her. "what else do you want me to say?" she asks, softening at his puppy face.
"nothing Sahar." Jimin flicks his hand, stepping away from her. the way he says her name in distaste makes her feel even worse. this isn't her fault, it's her mission! "because you've never said the right words anyway .. i deserve better."
Jimin moves further away. "you know what?" he says into the quiet, awkward atmosphere. "i wish we never met." he says so honestly.
Sahar groans, hands rushing down her face. seriously? she's frustrated because the wrong person said those words so she's still utterly stuck.
//
Sahar had enough of wandering around the hotel and the desolate streets of Malta. she hates being in a sad and bad mood. she just wanted to be with her Jungkook. so the tourist found herself at his apartment, about to knock.
but her hand falls back beside her when she hears Taehyung from inside. the man is raising his voice and Sahar immediately steps back. maybe she shouldn't knock and go inside?
"you're sleeping with someone else?" Taehyung's voice is heard. the irritation and resentment is evident.
definitely don't knock Sahar- she says to herself, heart pouncing at Taehyung's unexpected, raised voice as he argues with silent Jungkook.
Sahar can just imagine Taehyung's scoff and hands on sharp hips. "gosh Jungkook ... you out of all people?" the distaste that slips from his lips makes the female feel extreme uncomfort.
let me get this straight- Sahar thinks and rubs her temples. Taehyung's arguing with Jungkook in his cozy apartment because he's found out about Jungkook and Sahar's summer fling?
Taehyung's attitude is one that is disturbing to Sahar. although she's seen him in all types of moods and behaviours, she still finds it unusual. maybe because he's a stranger in this life. "here i was thinking you're naive and only loved me." the older boy says.
Jungkook's voice is heard in the silence. Sahar is glad- she didn't like how quiet he was. "i do love only you, you." the boy states wholeheartedly.
"so do you expect me to dismiss this summer fling of yours?" Taehyung questions and Sahar jumps- his voice sounds so close to the door.
"did you think i wouldn't find out?"
no.
Jungkook sighs. "Taehyung, i never meant to hurt you."
poor Jungkook.
"but you did-"
poor Taehyung.
Taehyung opens the door, making Sahar jump away and press her back against the corridor wall. the boyfriend doesn't notice her as he leaves with hurried steps, a hurtful look and anger.
Sahar is grateful he didn't see her. she lets out a sigh of relief.
the troubled young girl comes into Jungkook's apartment, allowing herself to due to the open door. she thinks about how Jungkook didn't run after Taehyung- she isn't surprised.
"Sahar." Jungkook breathes out from his seat on the couch. he's sat with his head in his veined hands, thinking deeply and it's obvious he's distressed. he wasn't expecting to see her.
Sahar is determined to end this once and for all. "you regret this, don't you?" she asks, speaking out his thoughts. Taehyung must have meant a lot to Jungkook, their love was something.
Jungkook doesn't nod or shake his head but his silence tells Sahar it's a yes, he does regret their very short summer romance. "i can't help but wonder if things would've been better if we had never met." he admits, playing with his fingers on top of his denim covered thigh.
yes! say more. "yes, what do you mean?"
SAY THE WORDS.
"i wish we never met Sahar..."
and everything goes black.
